If you're 5"7, what's your ideal weight?

I'm losing weight and toning up at the same time at the moment. I'm really focussed on it and it's dropping off fast. I'll be honest I'm using that as a focus to keep myself busy after a miscarriage earlier in the month so Ive gone in hard.

I'm just wondering what weight I should aim for really? At the moment I've just hit 10 stone. I just don't want to get carried away with it and lose too much like I have in the past.

I think 10 stone would be a good weight for your height.

Hurr1cane · 21/02/2015 12:46

Thanks. I do still feel big though for me Sad

I felt 'big' at 9 stone 7 which is well under my present weight of 11 and a bit.
Actually I must have been really skinny at that weight as I am a size 14 now and in good proportion.

nochocolateforlentteacake · 21/02/2015 12:48

Depends what your frame is like and at what weight you feel comfortable.

tomandizzymum · 21/02/2015 12:48

I'm 5ft 8 and 10 stone is my benchmark. I look ill and have no bum if I go to less. I am 10.2 and trying to get to bang on 10 at the end of the day, not beginning because that's cheating Grin
It will depend on your build.

SunnyBaudelaire · 21/02/2015 12:48

what i mean is you just might be 'programmed' to feel 'big' when actually we have just internalised that woman hating diet stuff, where women are not supposed to take up much space..

hippospot · 21/02/2015 12:49

It depends so much on your bone structure and shape, and how you carry weight.

For me BMI 21 feels right, yet my friend at BMI 22 looks chubby because her bones are so tiny, and her ideal BMI is 19. I look skeletal at BMI 19.

At what weight in the past have you felt good?

Sorry about your miscarriage.

thenightsky · 21/02/2015 12:50

9st 9lb is where I feel most comfortable.

PerpetualStudent · 21/02/2015 12:50

I'm 5'6" and think I look best at bang on 10 stone or thereabouts. During my last few months of uni I went down to under 9 1/2 stone during a period of anxiety and depression, though I felt good at the time I look back at photos and I had a bit of a 'lollipop stick head' look to me..

I'm so sorry for your loss by the way, well done for focusing on your physical and mental wellbeing. I've had a MC too and it's awful, look after yourself [unmumsnetty hugs]

Fairylea · 21/02/2015 12:51

10 stone is my ideal weight. I'm currently 12 stone which feels very heavy to me. I was 8 and a half before having my dc and was a size 8 but that seems too slim to me now, looking back I don't think I was eating very healthily - I wasn't on a diet as such but being a youngster and always on the go I lost weight easily.

I'd love to get back to being 10 stone.

sky100 · 21/02/2015 12:56

I'm also 5"7 and have also lost a lot of weight over the last year, through healthy eating and passive exercise. I've settled for 10st 7lbs, which seems to suit my frame. I'm now concentrating on maintenance and toning through yoga and resistance-type exercise.

Sorry to hear about your miscarriage Hurricane. It sounds to me that you could be at your ideal weight now.

nochocolateforlentteacake · 21/02/2015 13:01

When I was young (ahhhh) I was about 7.5-8 stones and ate like a horse on steroids. Now I'm an old bat I'm 9.5. But both my parents were beanpoles.

Hurr1cane · 21/02/2015 13:20

Thanks for all your replies. I'm bang on 10 stone at the start of the day so maybe I am just cheating and that's why I still feel big Grin.

To be honest I felt good at about 9 stone 5 but then again I was 19 then... I'm 27 now.

It's my stomach that looks a mess I think. And that's not because of DS (8) but I did swell loads and was in really bad pain during it, I wasn't even that swollen when I was full term with DS, so maybe it's that.

I'm doing T25 and sticking to it, just finished my second week.

My bone structure is quite big. I have a big ribcage and hips.

I'm 5ft7ins and 10 stone (and toned) works best for me. It really does depend massively on your shape.

I have narrow shoulders, a flat stomach, wide hips and a big bum. My lowest weight was 9 stone and when I look back at pictures I look very thin on my top half. I was a size 6/8 and my head looked massive. Shame as my size 8/10 bottom half looked peachy!

Skinheadmermaid · 22/02/2015 00:17

11 stone 10 pounds is my fighting weight. Blimey you guys are so light!
At 11.10 i'm a size 10 on top and a 12 on the bottom.
My absolute lowest weight was 11 stone when i was on diet pills and i was size 6.
Do i have steel cast bones or something? Wink

Skinheadmermaid · 22/02/2015 00:19

Just wanted to clafify it is literally my fighting weight for comps etc.

Hurr1cane · 22/02/2015 03:23

At 10 stone I'm 12 bottom and 10 top. I've never been less than 12 bottom even at 9 stone, it's my hips that do it and they're all bone, I can't diet bone off Grin

I was a size 6 top at just under 9 stone, I did look ill though

catsofa · 22/02/2015 03:29

I'm 5' 7" and I think I felt best at about 9.5 stone, which was usually a size 12. Made a bit of difference how muscly I was though - heavier with muscle felt great, lighter but weak felt not as good.

CheerfulYank · 22/02/2015 04:32

I felt amazing at ten stone. :) Far heavier than that now but determined to get back.

lolalotta · 22/02/2015 05:24

I feel healthy at 9 stone.

Hurr1cane · 22/02/2015 06:25

Thanks everyone. I'm always a size 12 bottom, even at 9 stone. Also always usually a size 10 top but recently they've got a bit tight (not now just when I was 11 stone 1!

I know we are built a big bigger without looking overweight because my mum and my sister, who are exactly the same height and build as me, are always around 10.7 to 11 stone and never look big, but I feel fat at that weight.

Mind you I have always had body issues. I'm just under 10 stone now. On photos I take I think I look ok, but when I look down all I can see is flab, but I don't know if that's just me and my own daft issues.

DP said he didn't notice that I had put on weight but he now notices that I've lost a lot. But he refuses to talk any more about it because he thinks I'm ridiculous Grin

piggychops · 22/02/2015 06:43

10.5 stone - but I have broad shoulders, anything less and I look ill. Smile

Gen35 · 22/02/2015 06:48

I'm usually about 10 St 9 and a 12 top/14 bottom. 10 stone is the lowest that is sustainable for me, I'm not 18 anymore and I also think maintaining an unrealistic weight isn't worth the hassle/constant worry.

Tangoandcreditcards · 22/02/2015 07:03

Agree with skinhead - you all seem very light to me.

I'm 5'7.5'' (in case that half inch matters) and I'm nice and slim size 12 at 11st - anything under that and you can see all my bones (it's been a few years though, I'm over 12 at the mo)

yomellamoHelly · 22/02/2015 07:15

9 stone 7 really, but haven't been that since before ds1. Have been around the 12 stone mark for years.
Before ds1 used to hover around the size 10/12 mark clothing wise at that weight, but obviously things have moved on. Can still be around that size depending on the shop, but know I am bigger than I used to be as I don't fit in clothes from around that time.
