Hi, I started on 1st Jan at 18st 10lbs and I have so much to lose, it would be lovely to share my journey with others who have over 6 stones to lose.

I know it's going to be a really long slog and I'll need help staying on the straight and narrow. I have to do it this year, no excuses!

So far I have lost 8.4lbs in first 11 days, but that seems tiny when I've got nearly nine stones to lose altogether. My goal is 10st.

Anyone out there? All buddies welcome Grin

Oh and I was messing about putting some targets down earlier and got thinking about percentage of body weight I have to lose.....done the first 2....

%
BODY WEIGHT TARGET WEIGHT LOST WEIGHT
0% 0st 0.0lbs 18st 10.6lbs
10% 1st 12.2lbs 16st 12.4lbs
20% 3st 10.4lbs 15st 0.2lbs
30% 5st 8.7lbs 13st 1.9lbs
40% 7st 7.0lbs 11st 3.6lbs
47% 8st 11.6lbs 9st 13.0lbs
48% 9st 0.0lbs 9st 10.6lbs
50% 9st 5.3lbs 9st 5.3lbs

I just wondered what 50% would be....current goal is 47% though.

OP posts:
Macloveswill · 16/03/2015 17:01

Aagh...it messed my targets around.

Should say:

% Body Weight Lost
Weight lost/to lose
Target Weight

Hard to believe I've got almost half my body weight to lose!

Well, after my litany of house/car costs and a hugely expensive birthday, I'm going to hold off with the gym membership/gym classes until my bank balance looks a little healthier (should only be a week or two).

BUT there's nothing stopping me from starting the shred, so let's bite the bullet and start tomorrow - you swim in the morning, I'll shred in the evening - deal?!

Being brief as I'm just about to leave work - had enough for today!

Macloveswill · 16/03/2015 17:57

Deal Letme, I'll drag myself to the gym in the morning Shock

Mrsstevejones · 16/03/2015 19:58

Wow Mac and Letme - good luck with the exercise. I was loving it and a bit disappointed i had to have an enforced break. Shred was a killer but really effective, i really noticed a difference after a week and the fact it is 20 or so mins is a bonus. I do keep thinking of getting mine out but thats about as far as i get at the mo.

I am feeling mostly better now and have had some nice fatty beef with cheese for dinner. Hopefully it wont be a fat overload on my delicate tummy.

I am so dehydrated i feel like i am hungover - must jump on the scales before all the water weight comes back on lol!

Macloveswill · 16/03/2015 20:15

Thanks Mrs, it's so long since I've been I think the swim may kill me tomorrow Wink

Glad you're back in the land of the living, awful being poorly isn't it.

DH away again and DD had already eaten, so couldn't be bothered to cook just for me. Lazy bones ended up having the remains of a can of tuna mixed with mayo followed by strawbs and double cream.

Right, I've got my act together and looked up all the times for the Body Balance classes at the gym. It's the only class apart from yoga and Aqua Zumba that I enjoy. It's a cross between Pilates, yoga and tai chi. Sounds gentle, but you can really feel it in all your muscles and it includes some planking, so great for toning. The times don't all suit, but there is one at 10.30 this morning that I can get to. Only problem is I've just rang to book and I am 2nd on the waiting list. Typical! So I'll go along anyway and if I get in, I'll do the class and a short swim. If not, I'll just do a long swim. I'm a bit apprehensive as its ages since I've been.

Other good news is I've dropped another 0.4lbs, so 16st 10.0lbs this morning (28.6lbs off). Tiny amounts, but I'm happy that it's moving downwards again. Only 2.3lbs to hit 30.9lbs (25%) off the 123.6lbs I had to lose.

Well done on the loss Mac. I'll be thinking of you and LetMe this morning as I pull a double kettlebell workout. As well as totm this weekend I've had a cold so haven't had a workout for a few days and feel the need to make up for it. I'm just doing DVDs at home. We live rurally and there aren't a huge number of local kettle bell classes, obviously those that do exist are on days I can't make Hmm

In lieu of not being actually thin yet, I've been compiling a list of physical benefits I've felt since losing weight so remind me how far I've come and to keep going:

  • I've stopped snoring
  • My knees don't hurt coming down the stairs
  • I can cross my legs properly
  • There's more elbow room in the bath

Anyone else noticing little things like that?

Macloveswill · 17/03/2015 09:57

Thanks Prof....and well done on keeping up with the kettlebells, they will be doing you the world of good!

I'm with you on more elbow room in the bath! I have a few little things that make me smile even though I'm still pretty huge:

  • I'm wearing my belt on notch number 6 or 7 instead of number 3 or 4 on a good day and I will soon need a new one.
  • my definition line on my midriff is back and my tummy is pretty flat
  • 3 lines (rolls!) on either side of my back under my bra strap have reduced to (just!) 1.
  • my skin is much brighter
  • my Achilles problem is not really bothering me anymore, despite all my walking.
  • lots of people starting to notice (mainly people who've known me sub-3years and never seen me slim). They must think of me as the big lady Sad (They are in for a shock when I lose it all, because I look totally different slimSmile).
  • my double chin is almost gone and my cheekbones are more defined.
  • just tried my gym gear on that was so tight it was unwearable at Christmas and it fits perfectly!

Great idea Prof...it's good to think about the positives rather than just the massive amount of weight I have to loseThanks

Body balance is deceptively evil, i used to love it but my new gym doesnt do it. They do kettlebells and i am tempted to try it, but again its at a stupid time. I am trying to get into spin class its just so bloody hard as i am so unfit.
They did me a gym prog so i might give that a whirl i want michelle obama arms! instead of rugby player ones.

The things i have noticed are:
i can cross my legs
tie my shoe laces without struggle
no sore knees
no ibs
will need a new belt soonish and it will be a med instead of l-xl
i find everyday things easier and more energy- usually
my skin is better
less pmt
more confidence - as its actually working
no dips in energy

Bloody loves this diet and i have had such a sore tummy and felt bleurgh from all the processed carbs i munched last week - def lesson learnt.

managed a bpc this morning and will have a green smoothie in a bit.

When my brain fog lifts i will have to weigh and see what % i have done and how far i have to go.

ProfYaffle · 17/03/2015 11:42

Oh, shoe laces! Yes, that's a good one.

LetMeBeLight · 17/03/2015 12:06

Wow, check us all out on the exercise front! There's no way I can shirk the Shred this evening after work now!

That Body Balance class sounds great Mac, hope you managed to get in. Although, swimming is fantastic exercise anyway.

I think when I join the gym I'll be going for a mix of my own gym workouts (x trainer, bike & some weights), spinning, kettlebells and maybe another toning class. I'm quite an all or nothing person, and I've found in the past when I get going with the gym, I REALLY get going.

I also find it keeps me on track with the food side of things, sort of like, why waste/discount all the hard work at the gym for a bag of chips that I'm not even hungry for.

So yes, I shall look forward to shredding, getting my fitness (and bank balance) up a bit before joining a gym and really going for it!

LetMeBeLight · 17/03/2015 12:50

I'm still early days on my weight loss, so don't have quite so many positives as you all yet.

However, I have lost another 2lbs, so that's 10lbs off from starting on 23rd Feb.

My positives so far are:

Not finding every day a "bad ankle day" on the dog walks
Better skin
Some of my clothes that were getting rather snug are fitting better
Generally a bit more energy*

*Although not today as the hound crept upstairs onto the bed and lay across my feet while I was dead to the world. First I knew of it was when I woke at 1.30am with a throbbing ankle which kept me awake for a while. He then had the gall to have the runs and need to be taken out a 3.45am and again at 5.30am.

Bloody thing is now snoring under my desk while I mainline coffee!

Macloveswill · 17/03/2015 13:28

Well done on the 2lbs Letme and yes you HAVE to do the shred now Grin

I managed to get in the class, bloody hell, you're right Mrs, it was a silent killer! It really shows just how utterly untoned I am, despite all my walking. I also did 30 lengths of the pool.

I'm pleased I went, but nothing could've prepared me for seeing myself in Lycra bent into all sorts of weird positions with a whole wall of mirrors directly in front of me. I was easily the biggest and the least supple in the class and I really felt enormous. I've got to start somewhere though, eh?! I was so ashamed, I thought I'd better book in for tomorrow too (1st on the waiting list), especially as none of the other times suit me. Hopefully twice a week with the class and a swim on top of my walking will be enough. I could maybe squeeze in Aqua Zumba on a thurs morning too if I'm not too busy, but for now I'll commit to tues and weds for class and a swim and my walk every night I can get out (usually 4-6 nights a week).

Wow we will all be fitties soon!! Shock

ProfYaffle · 17/03/2015 13:30

10lbs is fantastic - well done. I find these small physical changes sneak up on you, sometimes it's a little while before you realise things have changed.

ProfYaffle · 17/03/2015 13:31

Well done on doing the class mac. I have to admit these days I'm not sure I'd have the courage to go to a class, I'm happy hiding away behind the drawn curtains of my living room!

LetMeBeLight · 17/03/2015 14:06

Well done Mac! I think classes + swim twice a week and walk 4-6 times a week sounds fantastic. A great amount and a good combination of things to target different things.

Seriously don't worry about how you look. I bet you're the only one who noticed any lumps/bumps - people go to exercise classes to.........exercise! Not to judge others. I always found I was so intently following the class I wouldn't have noticed if my mum was working out next to me.

Plus, it's good to have the attitude 'at least I'm doing something about it'. That's what I say to myself if I don't like what I see in the mirror.

Thank you Prof, it's certainly a good starting point. And you're right, now that I think about it, my work chair feels a bit comfier - I've just realised that slightly raised edges each side of the seat no longer dig into my thighs!

LetMeBeLight · 17/03/2015 14:10

Oh, and I've done well on lunch today. I had a bowl of veg/chicken stew - shredded roast chicken, onions, leeks, peppers, green beans and sugar snaps in a tomato based sauce with paprika.

Thinking ahead to 7pm where I'll need the energy to do the shred before dinner!

Mrsstevejones · 17/03/2015 14:49

Mac i dont wear my glasses when i exercise then i can only see a me shaped blob and not the fine detail! If i am within eye sight range aka right up against the mirrors i JUST DONT . I never notice anyone else so i doubt they notice me but yes i am usually the fattest and most inflexible of the lot!

That would be loads of exercise and would def speed things up nicely esp if your weightloss starts to plateaux. I nearly drowned doing aqua zumba, i am so uncoordinated, never went back - let us know how you get on!!!

10lbs since since nearly end of feb is great, well done. I have lost about half that :(

BPC and Green smoothies for me today, i really havent fancied anything else and they made me feel sick. I have however painted half the living room and cooked breast of lamb. My car is now all clean and looks lush - just need to ban kids from getting in it!!

Letme - your lunch sounds lush.

LetMeBeLight · 17/03/2015 15:53

But Mrs, I had my first week at this WOE where inevitably you lose the most weight as your body adjusts to the shock of not being filled with rubbish.

Take that first week's loss away and I lost 5lbs :)

Mrsstevejones · 17/03/2015 18:57

I did get 2 walls painted today but kept feeling dizzy up the ladder, i would imagine in day light they dont look too special!

B- BPC
L- Green smoothie
D- Breast of lamb with cauli and broccoli smothered in butter.

My mum keeps making me tea to help me get over my bug but with milk so far too many carbs that way but i am easing myself in gently. Will be hardcore tom.

I am inspired by everyones exercise so i am off for a gentle swim tonight. I need to drop off my students and collect them and its hardly worth coming home so i will do a few laps whilst out. I am a bit stressed so swimming will do me the world of good.

I have a mental day tom getting the house photo ready and i have a load of bits to put up the attic. My mum will take the kids out so i can crack on. Still gutted about the other house but what will be will be - its all immaterial anyway until we have an offer on ours.

LetMeBeLight · 18/03/2015 08:05

Ugh I ache. Was a bit of a mad rush last night as we decided to go out for a meal for BIL's birthday, but I left work early so i did manage to do the shred before.

Did fine on food (asparagus starter and lamb cutlets and veg main, no potatoes win main and no dessert) but too much wine. And now my head aches almost as much as my body.

Off for a dog walk now, catch you all later.

Macloveswill · 18/03/2015 08:18

Ugh I ache too! All my tummy muscles and my thigh muscles are really hurting. I'm 1st reserve for the 9.30am class this morning and will go for 30 lengths after again.

Thanks for all your encouragement that everyone will be too busy doing their own thing to notice me. I wish my own eyesight wasn't quite so good though, with those mirrors it really isn't a pretty sight. I just look so HEFTY!

Well done to us all for exercising though. Here's to a distinct lack of heft very soon!Grin

OP posts:
Mrsstevejones · 18/03/2015 08:38

LOL at hefty - what a great word, heres to us not being hefty soon. Sympathies on the aching - hate to say it but it will be worse tomorrow but think of all the good its doing. I find a bit of exercise helps ease the stiffness.

I had a great swim in a heated outdoor pool, the air temp was cold but as long as you kept going it was fine. I kept trying and failing to do tumble turns when swimming and nearly drown as water kept going up my nose - there is obvs an art to getting the breathing right and i didnt manage it - i also kept landing them wrong and would head off at an angle towards the wall of the pool! I think i did about 25 leisurely lengths. Def helped with the stress.

The first of my foreign students has gone down with the vomiting bug and my dd has taken a turn for the worse, poor buggers.

I have 6 weeks until my little holiday and i need to be a size 14 else i have nothing to wear, so that is my goal. I am going to TRY and do the plank everyday and get to the gym when i can but i need my kids to get better first. Luckily my mum will be here next week when DH is away for work again so that should mean i can find some time.

I need to do a load of cooking again today - with 7 of us in the house i seem to do nothing but.

Have a great day everyone

LetMeBeLight · 18/03/2015 11:39

Gosh I don't think I've done a tumble turn in about 20 years! I haven't probably evening been swimming for 10. Which is silly, as I enjoy it. For some reason I never used to do it when I was a regular gym goer, I think I always thought it was too much faff?

Anyway, I really should start going, it's a great all round exercise and perfect for my shoddy ankle.

I'm afraid I shan't be shredding this evening, but I did do a little more than usual on the walk today, and there were only two of us, so I pushed the pace on a bit. Was good for clearing the head as well.

Got a fair bit to do this evening ('jobs' - nothing exciting unfortunately) and an early night is very much needed. I've already decided I'm having a baguette for lunch (and not drinking during the week again) but will have a light supper to compensate.

All in, not a great day for me, but not woefully bad.

Hope you're all doing better! And hope your house is vomit free soon Mrs!
