Anyone 16st+ and low-carbing?

Macloveswill · 11/01/2015 09:57

Hi, I started on 1st Jan at 18st 10lbs and I have so much to lose, it would be lovely to share my journey with others who have over 6 stones to lose.

I know it's going to be a really long slog and I'll need help staying on the straight and narrow. I have to do it this year, no excuses!

So far I have lost 8.4lbs in first 11 days, but that seems tiny when I've got nearly nine stones to lose altogether. My goal is 10st.

Anyone out there? All buddies welcome Grin

I would just like to announce i am now officially 13.8. I think i started around 14.9 in early jan meaning i have lost just over a stone eating fab food and not being hungry. I am very pleased this morning. Hoping for another couple of pounds for my birthday in 4 days so i am going totally dairy free - as soon as i have drunk my coffee and cream lol.

This means i have lost 2 st since having my boy a year ago - almost.

Sorry smugness over, off to do housework. Good luck everyone

LetMeBeLight · 06/03/2015 11:37

Wow MRS that's great. I too would be very smug. I'd love to be that weight now!!

Welcome to Bowed - I don't think it matters whether you're a strict no carber (for the purpose of posting here) - I'm not, and I've been made very welcome. The others all do seem to be doing very well on low carb though, so it's something I'm going to look at if I hit a plateau. Your age certainly doesn't matter either. Hope all goes well for you, and do keep posting.

I am now half a stone down in the 2 weeks I've been eating well. I haven't upped my exercise at all, so that's all just from diet. Very encouraging and giving me the motivation to start some proper exercise to keep up the momentum.

Today is watch buying day - I've decided to go with the Omega. I'm with Prof and much prefer the TAG, but it isn't for me so I suppose I should get him the one I know he'd love. braces self for empty bank account

Mrsstevejones · 06/03/2015 12:07

have fun LETME - he is going to love it... what a great wife you are he should be blown away

Macloveswill · 06/03/2015 15:42

Wow Mrs....congrats! this is definitely the place where smugness is allowed after you've done so well!

Well done on your half stone Letme....that's brilliant in 2 weeks. Your poor bank account will also be losing pounds Wink I'm sure your husband will be super pleased and he has the best wife ever! Will you have it engraved?

Day 65....goodness, it's flying! I've had a good day today, a veggie frittata for brunch and now baking a moussaka for dinner then on my walk tonight. I didn't lose anything this morning, but I'm 'feeling' slimmer today for some reason...not sure why, just seem to have had a spring in my step and I've been in a really good mood. Probably to do with the lovely weather today, it's been so sunny and bright. I love days like today! Passing today's positive vibes on to you all...hope it's been a good day for appetite and motivation.

LetMeBeLight · 06/03/2015 17:32

I've also been enjoying the sunshine today - it was glorious on the dog walk this morning. Not so nice in the office with the sun directly on my computer screen but at least it prompted me to finally order so blinds!

I get what you mean about 'feeling lighter' even if the scales don't reflect it. I felt 'lighter' earlier this week, but the scales weren't showing it, then boom, today 2lbs gone. Hope the same happens for you!

I've not arranged to engrave the watch - didn't even think of that! It's only supposed to arrive the day before his birthday so it will be touch and go as it is. Lovely idea to do later though, but I think I'll make sure it is the one he wanted before I get it done.

Still in the office and we've just decided to do a syndicate on the Euromillions tonight, been out and bought £30 worth of tickets between 3 of us, that means we're all but guaranteed to win, right????

Macloveswill · 06/03/2015 17:50

Ooh I hope that means I'm about to drop 2lbs Grin

Good thinking to make sure he likes the watch and it fits nicely etc before engraving it. You can always surprise him with a lovely message for your anniversary.

Of course you're bound to win the euro millions! Perhaps you'll fly us all to Vegas for our big Christmas frock reveal with one of your spare millions Wink

Well done letme half a stone in 2 weeks is great going.

I have had a rubbish day food and water wise. I have eaten far too much peanut butter on a spoon straight from the jar! and big knobs of cheese and coffees with cream. I have only had about 2 l of water today so i need to remedy that this evening or those 3 lbs i lost this morning wont stay off!!

We have everyone over on sunday so i need to make the house look like a show home and not like an explosion in a toy factory. And cook for 16 people but its too celebrate DS first birthday so its ok.

My mum has been living abroad for the last few years and she has unexpectedly come home (totally her style) and i am so chuffed and she is going to come and stay whilst hubby is on a work trip to help out. She is also very keen on the diet so i will help her with that. My other aim is to get her to give up the fags and take up vaping - i sent her a kit at xmas but i have no idea if she uses it.

Going to have a second viewing at the house tom to show hubby and the kids and mil - very excited i hope they like it as much as i did. This would be our forever family home (maybe, i LOVE buying and selling houses).

Weather was fab here but DS and i had some chilling time together playing which was lovely as he rarely gets alone time with me. Car went thru MOT £623 later and i need new tyres soon!

Must do dinner before hubby gnaws an arm off!

ProfYaffle · 07/03/2015 08:13

Congratulations to everyone on their losses Smile

I'm Envy of those 'feeling' lighter, I don't feel any different at the moment. I keep worrying that I've got the scales on a wonky floorboard or something and they're lieing to me.

Mrsstevejones · 07/03/2015 08:35

Scales lie all the time! I only believe them if they say something i like!

Do you have a skirt or trousers or something that is just a bit too tight and use that as your measure? In the IPD book they call them the trousers of truth.

Those antibiotics have given me an awful upset tummy (bum tmi) so i have made some live yoghurt to put the good stuff back, hoping it works as i have hideous tummy cramps.

Been swimming this morning (10 lengths so a warm up really) then i had a sauna and sit in the hot tub, it helped ease my aching muscles. I then had a coffee and read the paper in the bar until i felt guilty and went home to hubby and kids.

We are off to view the house shortly and whilst i did live in that town for a short time i dont know that area very well so we are going for an explore, i found a park on google maps really close by so we are going hunting for it!

Just hope everyone loves it as much as i do, although hubby said he was happy to live where ever i wanted. Bless him.

Just had my BPC for breakfast and considering a green smoothie before i go as i am starving today.

Good luck everyone have a great weekend x

Macloveswill · 07/03/2015 08:44

Mrs...my DH has a habit of eating peanut butter straight from the spoon too. Much as I love it I can't manage it without accompaniments. Stress of cooking for 16...good luck!!

Prof...I wouldn't worry about not feeling lighter, it's a feeling that seems to come and go for me and may be totally related to constipation Smile. As long as the scales are coming down, it's working!

I am a pound down on the scales this morning, so only 1.2 lbs to go for 2 stone....feels like it's taking its merry time though now, c'mon scales!!

Good weekend everyone. I'll be hitting the prosecco again tonight whilst me and a friend help another friend to decide on what outfits to wear on a trip to hook a man she's had a crush on forever. Cross between judges on the voice and strictly...Se-Ven!! Grin

OP posts:
Macloveswill · 07/03/2015 08:58

Hope they all love the house Mrs! Yes agree scales can sometimes be lying bar stewards Grin I always believe them when I weigh less though Wink

OP posts:
ProfYaffle · 07/03/2015 09:05

The scales seem to be coming down - I just don't feel any different Confused Maybe it's the contrast between steady weight loss now and the dramatic losses at the start.

Swim and a sauna sounds lovely MrsS. Kettlebells again for me later on. Had wine last night so tonight I'm being good and just having a Stevia chocolate bar as my weekend treat.

Mrsstevejones · 07/03/2015 19:31

Mad day, lots of housework and cooking - still need to pop to supermarket this evening to get last few bits. So very rock and roll - supermarket shopping on a sat night! Still got presents to wrap and balloons to blow up.

I need to drink more water as i have done badly today.

Prof - hope your kettlebells went well.

Had a lush dinner of pork steaks with cheesy cauli mash and kale sautéed in the pork pan with garlic.

More news i now have to wear wedding ring on other finger as it flew off 3 times today and face is def looking thinner -i can see cheek bones!

Hope everyone had a good day

Mrsstevejones · 08/03/2015 08:21

DS first birthday is here! Sob i dont want him to grow up, he is at such a lovely age and he is my last baby.

Lots of lovely LC food in, i just need to not eat the sodding cake!!

Have a fab day everyone, hope you are having a good weekend. Weigh in tomorrow and i must be strong! Although after cooking for 16 and a weekend of housework i might need wine tonight!!!!!

ProfYaffle · 08/03/2015 16:06

Hope everyone has had a good weekend and your lo's party went well MrsS.

We had a lazy day yesterday then I somehow managed to end up with the boy next door having a sleepover. Naturally everyone was awake til the small hours and the whole house is wrecked today!

I've been pondering Bowed's thoughts on fat in the diet. It seems to be a common thing to struggle to eat fat on this WOE - hence fat bombs. Am I the only low carber on the planet who has no problem whatsoever snarfing down all the butter and cheese I can lay my hands on??

Macloveswill · 08/03/2015 17:47

We have a pic up in our dining room of DDs first birthday party wearing a little hungry caterpillar party hat....they are so lovely at that age. I imagine you'll have needed a rest today Mrs!

Prof...I don't seem to have too much of a problem eating fat either ...I love butter and fatty meat cuts. What is a fat bomb though?

Slightly fragile earlier after quite a few glasses of prosecco last night. Fingers crossed it doesn't have too much of an effect.

Just polished off a huge plateful of roast pork, broccoli and swede roasties with a creamy sauce made from the pork juice and double cream. It was just what the doctor ordered! I still sometimes fancy something sweet after a big meal though. Strawberries and cream normally hit the spot, but we've run out Hmm

OP posts:
ProfYaffle · 08/03/2015 18:27

That sounds lush Mac. We had roast beef and I made some veggie fritters with the dregs of the veg drawer grated up and mixed with parmesan and beaten egg. Yum.

Fat bombs are basically low carb truffles, they tend to be made with things like peanut butter, cocount oil, raw cacoa and sweetener. They're full of fat, no carbs, low protein, the 'solution' to the 'problem' of not being able to eat enough fat. Confused

tbf they sound delicious, I won't risk making any!

Macloveswill · 08/03/2015 19:25

Ooh Prof, I fancy trying your veggie fritters!

Fat bombs no good for me as I'm not having anything with sweetener in. Mainly because I hope to have kicked my massive sugar addiction by the end of the year and I think even artificial sweeteners have the same insulin response and don't get me away from my addiction. I've no idea if it will work, but that's my theory.

I'd really like to carry on mostly with this way of eating even after I've lost the weight as I can't risk putting it back on. I imagine I'll eat carbs at social events etc, but stick to LC privately the rest of the time. That's a big worry for me after putting almost the lot back on last time after losing over eight and a half stones. This has got to be a once and for all thing losing half my body weight. I've got to put the bleedin yo-yo down!!

OP posts:
ProfYaffle · 09/03/2015 06:38

I'm thinking the same about maintenance. Sticking to lc at home but being able to relax a bit more when out and about. I also agree that maintenance is the hard bit, when I've lost weight in the past I've not paid enough attention and just breathed a sigh of relief once I've got to target. I'm determined to be more careful this time though.

ProfYaffle · 09/03/2015 09:16

God I love this WOE. So far this morning I've had a breakfast of garlic sausage and cheese omlette, cooked in butter til crispy and yum and got a 2lbs loss on the scales again this week making a total of 18lbs altogether. I declare myself happy.

Macloveswill · 09/03/2015 10:07

Wow well done Prof!! Woo-hoo! That's brilliant! It really does work doesn't it!!

I've had a breakkie of cold charcuterie and very ripe Brie and have a lovely ham joint cooking on the stove which we had last week too instead of buying bacon. It worked out the same price-wise (equiv. to 3.5 packs in terms of meals and price) and feels (maybe just psychological, but can't be quite as processed?) a bit healthier than eating all the sulphates and additives in the bacon and DD loves a ham sandwich. I am a little concerned about mine and DH's intake of processed meat. I'm always very careful which sausages we buy too (at lease 96% meat) but think I'll work on reducing the processed stuff. Everything else is cooked from scratch, but I do worry about the meat, mainly I think because of the sheer quantity of it I'm eating. Am I just being paranoid...or does anyone else think about this?

OP posts:
LetMeBeLight · 09/03/2015 12:47

Morning all. Bit of a mixed bag from me. Went shopping for dinner stuff on Friday after work and no where had duck breasts - had been planning them with lots of leafy green veg. So I ended up buying steak which we had with salad and 'proper' chips and onion rings.

The chips weren't even that nice as I didn't cook them that well! Also had a fair bit of wine (not pissed, but too much really).

I was positively angelic for the rest of the weekend though even though we went out for a meal on Saturday (had chicken chasseur with veg, no potatoes) with one glass of wine, and I avoided desserts and the cheeseboard yesterday at the inlaws (again just had meat and veg). I even avoided birthday cake!

I'll be good today, but all bets are off tomorrow (DP's birthday). We're off to The Hand & Flowers (Tom Kerridge) which I had to book a whole year in advance so I'm going to have whatever the hell I fancy!

MRS - what did the family think of the house? And how did the party go?

Prof - congratulations on the losses. 18lbs is fantastic and it must really be showing now.

Mac - I'm not too bothered about cured meat, I just bear in mind the salt content. eg. if I cook with bacon, I never add salt. I'm always more bothered about the quality of meat. But then I suppose it depends how often you eat it. Typically, I would only have sausages or ham once a week and bacon once, maybe twice. I'm afraid to say it probably is something I would consider changing if it was a dramatically more than that.

LetMeBeLight · 09/03/2015 13:00

Actually Mac, ignore me, pre this WOE, I would have bacon in my lunchtime sandwich every day (or at least every day I had lunch) without even a second thought.

I suppose it's just that you've prompted me to think about processed meats, and on thinking about it, I've realised it's great not to have them all the time. In the same way I wouldn't have red meat every day.

I'm just lucky that in my new WOE, processed meats don't tend to feature a great deal, without any kind of concerted effort.

Macloveswill · 09/03/2015 13:21

No Letme I think you're probably right. It's more about variety and quality isn't it. I suppose a year eating like I am in the grand scheme of things won't make any difference, but I think I'm going to try to cut down on the processed meat and choose something else when it's possible. Sometimes it won't be and that's ok.

Your meal out sounds wonderful and I don't blame you for having whatever you like. There will be events like this and we have to find a way for this WOE to fit into our lives, otherwise we'll give up. Well done on the birthday cake avoidance too!

Having a bad day today and ate cake and icing. Feeling very stressed and sorry for myself and now will have to add carb flu back into the mix.

Family sniffy about the house (relationship issues) almost felt like they didnt want us to live somewhere nice. Party was very fraught emotionally for me but i slapped a happy face on, i didnt want them to ruin DSs party like they did DDs. Not one person commented that i had lost weight even though i am 2.5st down and 3 dress sizes since last year - they are very observant if i have put on weight and not afraid to mention it!

My back is totally up against the wall and i am feeling the strain. I wont let this slip turn into anymore than that but aarrgghh. I want wine and ciggies and icecream -proper wallowing in self pity today.

Sorry moan over.

Well done to everyone losing weight and loving the diet. I have no probs eating the fat and enjoying the food which is odd as i was a dedicated SW-er for years - for all the good it did! Until i started LCHF i had never eaten cream - i pour it in everything now!!

I try and keep processed meat to a minimum usually but at this point i figure the weight is the biggest health threat. As this diet is med protein i eat less meat than usual - green smoothies for lunch rather than a ham sarnie. I will still eat meat but try and buy the best stuff poss and limit processed meat but i do love a pepperami! I figure all the green veg offsets things to a point.
