Anyone else just eating healthier/less and moving more?

I've tried every diet known to man (and done quite well on some- I was down 50 lbs before Christmas, though dreading seeing the damage an all inclusive holiday and Christmas has done!)

I've had enough of counting calories/points/syns or whatever. I'm fed up of following plans or drinking shakes. What I really want to do, after years of yo yo dieting, is to eat healthy stuff (not low fat stuff though) that excites me, in slightly smaller portions and do exercise that I enjoy. I want to cut down/out fizzy drinks (already cut these out), sugary foods, chocolate, processed stuff etc.

I not only want to lose weight, I want to lose it (and enjoy it whilst doing it) and maintain it. Yes it's a cliche, but I don't want to diet, I want a lifestyle change. I want to be able to go out to a restaurant for special occasions and not worry over how many syns/points etc the food will 'cost' me, but be able to enjoy it. I don't even know if this makes sense, but after spending so long on different plans, I'm so excited to just eat stuff that's not dictated to me, but stuff I think I should be eating.

I've just done a meal plan for next week, and an online food shop which has got me really excited to start (yes, I'm weird! Grin)

I still need to lose at least another 50 lbs. Does anyone want to join me?

Have you got any colour runs in your area nevergoogle they look so much fun. That could be a good motivator Grin

nevergooglebrandybutter · 24/01/2015 17:11

yes, they had a color run last year. I'll take a look.

nevergooglebrandybutter · 24/01/2015 20:09

oh flip, i just entered a sprint distance triathlon. Shock

I have until the end of may.

lowcrabdiet · 24/01/2015 22:11

Wow that's awesome!

I am in complete awe of triathletes. Is it outdoor swimming too?

The extent of my exercise (whilst my wrist is healing) is Davina fitness dvds and even they leave exhausted Blush

nevergooglebrandybutter · 24/01/2015 22:47

it's a pool swim thankfully, and the run and cycle are pretty flat. it's as easy a triathlon as you get i expect.

lowcrabdiet · 25/01/2015 10:35

But an easy triathlon is still a TRIATHLON!!! Grin

I'm going to a vegan restaurant for lunch, so no chance of cheese overload today. I will report back tonight on how it went

nevergooglebrandybutter · 25/01/2015 18:51

It's best i don't start congratulating myself on my triathlon before i've actually done it!

vegan sounds interesting, let me know what you have.

MrsHooolie · 25/01/2015 22:21

Totally fell off the wagon today but back on it tomorrow. I think I sort of called it a cheat day in my head?!
We're having a charity cake sale on Tuesday at work, going to be so hard Shock

Silverjohnleggedit · 26/01/2015 08:00

Mrshoolie you just git to climb back on the wagon and keep on going. Yesterday was bloody hard, I was really craving wine or sugar or anything to sabotage. Dd made these little delicate greek biscuits that just melt in the mouth and I knew that if I had one....well it could never be one, felt bad about declining to taste but no one else seemed to mind!

Weigh in this morning showed a measly 0.4kg loss, I'm still on steriods so I suppose I should be happy but I so wanted to lose 3kg in January - it's easier so much easier to eat less during dry January.

Regardless of diet success or failure, we have a planned cheat at a lovely restaurant on Saturday.

How's everyone doing?

nevergooglebrandybutter · 26/01/2015 09:11

Weigh in today, another 1lb gone.

Weight shifting much more slowly than it has done previously. Possibly as not breastfeeding anymore but also I wonder if it is just slower the closer to your target weight you get.

Anyway, 1lb is 1lb and not to be sniffed at. Even if I only lose a 1lb a week I should get to to my target weight by the summer.

lowcrabdiet · 26/01/2015 14:26

Hi everyone Smile

MsHoolie I feel your pain... I've had a bit of an unintended carb fest in the last 24 hours.

The clean eats cafe we were going to was shut for maintenance so we went to a veggie cafe instead. I ordered a falafel wrap and thought that would be fine, but it came with (undeclared) chips, rice and potato salad!!! So I scoffed the lot Grin and found myself craving chocolate later in the day Angry. It's the first time I've had chocolate cravings for at least a fortnight.

I managed to resist the cravings, but then I took DM out for lunch today with DS, I had a (very thin base) pepperoni pizza coz its surely a breach of human rights to go a whole month without pizza And when I went to order deserts for DM and DS I was told I couldnt pay less than £6 on my card, so obviously I had to buy and scoff a hot chocolate brownie with ice cream just to ensure that they both got what they wanted.

I have to say I'm not even sorry about the pizza and brownie. It was bloody lovely Grin I icould and should have done without all the potatoes and rice yesterday though. It will see definitely show on the scales this week.

Silverjohn you are doing great, especially considering how unwell you have been! When will you finish the steroids? And more importantly how do you feel? Is your chest infection better now?

nevergoogle did you watch the horizon episodes on dieting the other week. They specifically addressed the way that weight loss plateaus the closer you get to goal. It was really interesting. That said 1lb is a great loss!

lowcrabdiet · 26/01/2015 14:30

Oooh and I've ordered diet whey protein powder for the days when I have run out of time and been too disorganised to sort out a healthy lunch or breakfast.

I know real food would be better, but a protein shake beats grabbing a croissant or three

nevergooglebrandybutter · 26/01/2015 15:57

as long as you don't do both!

i watched the last in the horizon series but that must have been mentioned in the other two programmes. when i first started i was losing 3-4 lbs a week. very motivating. but i know i'm in this for the long run and the lifestyle changes. i don't care much how long it takes as long as it stays off!

Silverjohnleggedit · 26/01/2015 16:03

lowcrab so glad you really enjoyed the pizza and brownie, much worse to cheat and be disappointed. Protein shakes are a great idea to stop cheating. I have soups in the freezer for emergency consumption.
I finish the steriods on Thursday, I hope! - I'll see the consultant then anyway. Immediate chest issues are hopefully resolved, but the ongoing diagnosis is uncertain....a case of ruling things out really. But I'm finally feeling fit enough to take the dog out and I've just noticed how filthy my house is - so I must be feeling better!

lowcrabdiet · 26/01/2015 19:47

nevergoogle I find that if I keep reminding myself what a lb of fat looks like then I don't mind losing that or even half a lb. But I know what you mean, after such rapid loss it does feel a bit of a let down.

Silverjohn I hadn't realise there was something under lying your chest infection, sorry I must have missed that Blush. You really are doing exceptionally well then, considering with the added stress that must cause.

I actually came in again tonight to have a little moan. I called the hand therapist that I'm under in order to check I'm managing the pain in my wrist correctly. She told me that my xrays show early onset osteo arthritis.

I thought I was ok with this, but as the evening wears on I just want to cry.

I grew up with my Nana and great aunts complaining if pain and immobility in their hands and knees and feet. Now my mam and aunt are the same. So I expected it to come to me (and it's a huge motivator behind sorting out my weight, but I didn't expect it so soon.

I'm only 35 (well I am in 2 weeks). I'd normally comfort binge eat. So tonight will be a challenge Sad

Terramirabilis · 26/01/2015 20:37

No real progress here sadly. But I haven't gained either Wink . I must watch those Horizon programmes. I am interested in the weight loss plateau thing since I am already within the healthy BMI range and just trying to lose a little bit more.

Silverjohnleggedit · 26/01/2015 21:00

lowcrab that's hard news to take, does it help that you have an early diagnosis? Is it autoimmune? I know when I went Paleo/low carb lots of aches and pains in my joints disappeared.

My chest condition started in June - before that I was running 30km a week doing lots of outdoor fitness classes, I was really fit and strong - then my breathing went a bit screwy, I've been through a whole range of heart tests and lung tests but they can't figure it out - CT showed a nodule which they think is benign as it hasn't changed in 3 months. Next stop is a camera investigation and if that shows nothing, they'll put it down to a rare form of asthma. I am so envious every time I see someone running....I just wish I could get out there, I love running.

terra I don't have much to lose either, but my clothes are much too tight and it's best to nip these things in the bud, but weight loss is slow and frustrating - and gaining is so easy.

I bought an audio cd today on beating sugar addition through hypnosis - I really want to be able to have just one biscuit without battling with the whole packet.

nevergooglebrandybutter · 26/01/2015 23:44

well done everybody with weight loss while having health issues.

I have an implanted ECG recorder. I have an appointment to see if it has automatically recorded any weird stuff next month again. I'm really pushing myself with the running so I'm interested to see if everything is ok. I feel really good and don't feel unwell so that must be a good sign.

Silverjohnleggedit · 28/01/2015 08:09

Nevergoogle you're doing fantastically well with the running - must be a good sign, don't you think?
This thread has gone remarkably quiet, hope you lot haven't given up! Even if there is no weight loss, a focus on eating more veg and less processed food and just moving for 20mins a day will may a huge difference to your health.
We're back on the booze on Friday and I'm really hoping it won't derail me too much. I've been listening to my hypnotherapy cd on sugar addition....she has me visualising mixing my favourite treat with poo in the hope that I'll be turned off them for life...who knows!

thanks, i hope so. ran again this morning despite feeling a bit ropey before i started. now just trying to get a grizzly baby to sleep so i can have a nap.

i've done the hypnosis thing before with paul mckenna (actually with him on a seminar day i won through mumsnet), i mixed my chocolate with sputum. boak. worked well for ages, but now i'm happy to know when enough chocolate is enough. good way to make the break though.

ThedementedPenguin · 28/01/2015 12:47

Can I join??

Okay so I am demented! I am 24 and I weigh 11.5 stone at 5 foot 2.5.

So am way over what I want to be. I am trying to do it by eating less crap, more good food and exercising.

I joined a exercise class, it's a yummy mummy class. Basically it's in soft play, they pay a personal trainer to come in and take the class. I've been at it 3 weeks now (Monday, Wed and Friday.) they also look after your kids. So it's great. I am really enjoying it but sore all the time atm.

So exercise wise I'm doing great, need to do a little more over the weekend but otherwise I'm happy. My problem is the eat less crap, the house doesn't have that much bad stuff in, some chocolate for the kids. I've mostly been good at not eating any. A few slip ups were I've had some m&ms, maybe about 5 instead of the packet.

I just need to meal plan better and make healthier dinners. Anyone on here meal plan? :)

nevergooglebrandybutter · 28/01/2015 14:10

not so much meal plan as i don't like that much rigidity. but i have made batches of soups and meals and frozen them so that those healthy meals don't take any more effort than an unhealthy processed meal. then each weekend i try to batch make something to keep the freezer stocked up.

Sootball · 28/01/2015 16:21

Yes - I meal plan because with 2 of us working FT and 2 children with restricted diets plus a serious lack of £ its the best soluution
