Anyone else just eating healthier/less and moving more?

I've tried every diet known to man (and done quite well on some- I was down 50 lbs before Christmas, though dreading seeing the damage an all inclusive holiday and Christmas has done!)

I've had enough of counting calories/points/syns or whatever. I'm fed up of following plans or drinking shakes. What I really want to do, after years of yo yo dieting, is to eat healthy stuff (not low fat stuff though) that excites me, in slightly smaller portions and do exercise that I enjoy. I want to cut down/out fizzy drinks (already cut these out), sugary foods, chocolate, processed stuff etc.

I not only want to lose weight, I want to lose it (and enjoy it whilst doing it) and maintain it. Yes it's a cliche, but I don't want to diet, I want a lifestyle change. I want to be able to go out to a restaurant for special occasions and not worry over how many syns/points etc the food will 'cost' me, but be able to enjoy it. I don't even know if this makes sense, but after spending so long on different plans, I'm so excited to just eat stuff that's not dictated to me, but stuff I think I should be eating.

I've just done a meal plan for next week, and an online food shop which has got me really excited to start (yes, I'm weird! Grin)

I still need to lose at least another 50 lbs. Does anyone want to join me?

yes, I have a habit of managing anxiety and tiredness with food, so I'm trying to shift as much weight as I can before my maternity leave finishes. once I'm back at work, I have to find new strategies although I expect the key will be planning ahead with packed lunches.

Silverjohnleggedit · 21/01/2015 19:08

How depressing is it when you eat so little and you have a really crap dinner, I'd been looking forward to a steak with onions and mushrooms, but it was so dull and the steak was grizzly and lacked flavour - I feel cheated!
Homemade veg soup for lunch with a handful of ham hock and some greek yoghurt and a good sprinkling of habenero chilli was lovely though.

slushie · 21/01/2015 22:36

Hi
I joined you all and promptly fell off the wagon so here we go again!

Today's food
B -shreddies
L - dick wrap and fruit
D- spaghetti Bolognase
S - shreddies and banana

A bit carb heavy but I was at work today and at the in-laws for tea so not much choice.

I am aiming on doing a 30 min walk tomorrow.

slushie · 21/01/2015 22:37

Haha bloody fat fingers!!
That should be duck wrap :)

nevergooglebrandybutter · 22/01/2015 00:05

haha, yummy!

Terramirabilis · 22/01/2015 01:04

Returning in shame after a bad weekend (long weekend here in the US). Haven't gained weight but no movement on the scales either. Got to knuckle down after the pizza, wine, and obscenely sized sandwiches you get when you eat out here. Hope everyone's feeling chipper.

claremccrory59 · 22/01/2015 08:00

Hi ladies,
I'm about to start ivf and also need to lose a stone or two. Cutting out alcohol, less fried food, more fruit & veg, and moving more is the plan!

Instead of watching TV on the sofa during these dark evenings, I'm staying on my feed and pottering about the house a lot more. A 20 min walk before work and at lunchtime.

Can't wait for the days to get longer so I can get out for walks in the evening! (I live in the countryside so no street lights).

Couple of pounds down so far, so feeling optimistic :)

Silverjohnleggedit · 22/01/2015 08:17

Welcome claire I did IVF many years ago, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Grin @ dick wrap - very tasty!

I've been pretty good with eating and thankfully I haven't suffered overly with steriod hunger, but I've not been moving enough due to poor breathing...today I'm going to drag the dog out for a romp through the fields.

Sootball · 22/01/2015 12:30

Hi - is there room for another one?

20 months after my youngest was born I am now heavier than I was the day I went into have her, at 15 stone (and 5'8' I am now suffering side effects of the weight. I can't do calorie counting or afford the subscriptions to weight loss groups. Having the GP tell me fairly bluntly I am at serious risk of arthritis if I don't lose at least 4 stone was brutal but needed. I also haven't decided against a third child which to carry to term I need to be a LOT healthier!

I have My fitness pal, and also a Fitbit - if anyone wants to friend me then please pm and we can exchange details. I need some competition!

nevergooglebrandybutter · 22/01/2015 13:17

you can do this sootball.

it helps me to think about the habit changing. if you stick with the changes for 90 days (forgive mistakes and get back on track quickly) then it becomes less hard work as you will have new habits.

it helped me to think about the 90 days as a goal in the beginning.

lowcrabdiet · 22/01/2015 17:28

Sorry I've been MIA thanks to work and migraines this week, will catch up properly later but Sootball I will be your friendly competition. I'm 5'8" and was 15.3 at new year. I'm 14.11 now but I bet you can catch up on my head start really quickly Grin

Silverjohnleggedit · 22/01/2015 20:47

Migraines and work - not the best combination lowcrab hope you are in better form now.

Welcome soot

Food today much better -
Lots of milky tea
Butternut squash soup with ham hock and yogurt
Chinese style Ox cheek with Savoy cabbage, mushroom and onion, spoonful of rice.

Have started to try and leave a spoonful on my plate, I'm trying to resist the urge to just eat it because it's on the plate....a bit Paul McKenna but I really want to develop good habits fir maintenance.

Sootball · 22/01/2015 22:35

Thanks for the nice welcome :-)

I relapsed slightly today at 8.30pm when I rushed to the shop, the cheeseburger was an unusual but excellent one off. Half a pack of custard creams was excessive.

But I did leave some. Which is unheard off! And I added it to my fitness pal. So small steps like you said neverGBB

low crab I hope you're feeling better? I'm very much up for a challenge - if I can shed a stone by the time I go on holiday in June and possibly another one and a half by next Christmas I'll feel a great deal more confident to job hunt!

Sunshine200 · 23/01/2015 08:16

Hi everyone
Can I join? I've been on
A 'health kick' for nearly 3 weeks now with a plan to lose 2 pound a week. Looking at the rest of your posts this seems realistic. This is the first time I've ever felt like I 'need' to lose weight. My children are 1 and 3 now and it's time to get back to me again!

I'm doing quite well in the health kick, still allowing myself a few treats now and then. Not losing weight quite as quickly as I expected but I am eating a decent amount of fruit and nuts which I know are high calorie but healthy.

I really want to lose my flabby baby belly so I think I now need to ramp it up with a bit of exercise. Hoping the healthy food will stop me feeling so tired (1 year old doesn't sleep all that well!).

Good luck everyone.

nevergooglebrandybutter · 23/01/2015 09:11

Grin at cheeseburger and custard creams! what on earth happened?

Sootball · 23/01/2015 09:47

Well a small cheeseburger isn't 'that' bad, there were no chips and i was hungry. Started work at 8.30am and although I had porridge for breakfast, a wild rice and beef lunch then banana mid afternoon I knew that I needed something decent before I got home at 9.30.
The custard creams were an oversight

nevergooglebrandybutter · 23/01/2015 11:07

Grin loving your honest. i've just started munching on kitkats so am going to go for my run now before i do any real damage.

lowcrabdiet · 23/01/2015 11:50

Hello you lovely honest people Grin

I am beset with migraines this week. I don't get the hideous-can't-get-out-of-bed-for-puking variety, mine are visual disturbances followed by crushing headaches, desperate desire to sleep and crazy hunger as the headache eases. I seem to get them in clusters and this week has been a bad one.

I weighed in this morning and I'm 14.8 (hurrah) but I suspect some of that is dehydration due to the painkillers I've been taking.

Migraine hunger aside, I am finding that I am a lot less hungry than usual. I'm not reaching for snacks or craving chocolate and frankly this feels so liberating.

There are so many times when I felt that my whole life revolved around meeting my sugar cravings. I would get hungry, then anxious, then angry the longer I had to wait to get a sugar fix and I honestly haven't felt that way in a fortnight now.

But I keep reminding myself that I'm not dieting, so no food is off limits and nothing can ruin this. Earlier this week I went out for dinner and had chips with my meal then chocolate fudge cake and ice cream for desert. But I didn't let it derail me for the rest of the day. I guess that Horizon experiment with the cake really has stayed with me!

I hope you all have a good day today Smile

nevergooglebrandybutter · 23/01/2015 12:02

4.5km run. Slowly, but it's still running.

lowcrabdiet · 23/01/2015 13:00

That's great nevergoogle!

nevergooglebrandybutter · 23/01/2015 13:11

and i walk the steep uphill bits Blush but hey! I lapped everyone on the sofa right!?

lowcrabdiet · 23/01/2015 14:20

Walking uphill is definately better than sitting on a cushion!

I'm quite jealous. I was getting I to a really good exercise routine but these migraines have put a stop to that for the last few days.

I can't run atm as I get plantar fasciitis. Although I'm hoping that by decreasing my weight that will decrease significantly. I really enjoyed running and stopping every 60 seconds to walk for 2 minutes outdoors in the cold always really cleared my head. I'd love to do a 10k walk run next year

lowcrabdiet · 23/01/2015 14:22

God, very little of that made sense. The exhausted sleepy phase is catching up on me now Sad

nevergooglebrandybutter · 23/01/2015 16:05

weight loss will help the plantar fasciitis, lots of calf and hamstring stretches is good too. worth checking your running shoes aren't part of the problem as well.

i should sign up to something like a 5k i think, to keep momentum. I can walk/run that now, but to aim to run it all would be good.

lowcrabdiet · 23/01/2015 22:22

Thanks nevergoogle I didn't know about hamstring stretches helping so I will look into that. I have generic arch support insoles for my trainers, I was given them a few years ago by a podiatrist, but I find them uncomfortable to run on.

If it continues to be a problem after I have lost more weight I will get a biomechanics assessment done and if necessary some proper orthotics.
