Anyone else just eating healthier/less and moving more?

I've tried every diet known to man (and done quite well on some- I was down 50 lbs before Christmas, though dreading seeing the damage an all inclusive holiday and Christmas has done!)

I've had enough of counting calories/points/syns or whatever. I'm fed up of following plans or drinking shakes. What I really want to do, after years of yo yo dieting, is to eat healthy stuff (not low fat stuff though) that excites me, in slightly smaller portions and do exercise that I enjoy. I want to cut down/out fizzy drinks (already cut these out), sugary foods, chocolate, processed stuff etc.

I not only want to lose weight, I want to lose it (and enjoy it whilst doing it) and maintain it. Yes it's a cliche, but I don't want to diet, I want a lifestyle change. I want to be able to go out to a restaurant for special occasions and not worry over how many syns/points etc the food will 'cost' me, but be able to enjoy it. I don't even know if this makes sense, but after spending so long on different plans, I'm so excited to just eat stuff that's not dictated to me, but stuff I think I should be eating.

I've just done a meal plan for next week, and an online food shop which has got me really excited to start (yes, I'm weird! Grin)

I still need to lose at least another 50 lbs. Does anyone want to join me?

Hello all :) (OP here- I've name changed)

Well done on all the fab losses!

Sorry I've not been on since the beginning! Blush I've not completely given up and I was 4 lbs down last week! Though I have been slack this week- meals out/chocolate/wine etc. Reining it in now though as I know I won't have lost tomorrow.

I haven't done any exercise in ages so hoping to get back into it from next week.

Hope you're all having a great weekend :)

Hi everyone we are a fab little bunch aren't we.

I really do love this thread. It's so encouraging to know I'm not the only one out there struggling with these things. And reading your success stories is a big motivator for me.

I'm in a rotten mood today, which would normally result in angry eating. I used to call it comfort eating but I realised a few months back that I almost feel vengeful when I eat at times. Exactly who the hell I think I'm getting one over on by stuffing my face with jaffa cakes, is a mystery to me, but I persist in doing it!

Although so far, today, I'm do
managing to direct my feelings to places other than my gob!

I went skating today and fell on my wrist agrivating an injury that was almost completely healed. So I'm a bit worried about how that will impact on exercising (as I mainly lift weights and skate). I guess I will have to dig out the ancient tae-bo dvds instead Shock. But as I don't actually want to do them it will be so much harder to motivate myself.

Ah well, could have been worse, I could have broken my leg I suppose.

My eating healthy top tip today is rye bread with mashed avocado and sliced tomatos on top. A bit of salt and pepper and it makes a fab breakfast or lunch. I ate 2 slices at 10.30 and haven't felt hungry since Grin

Is that roller skating of ice skating lowcrabdiet?
I would love to roller skate again as I loved it as a kid. Important that I don't injure my wrists and hands for work though (musician).

Silverjohnleggedit · 18/01/2015 17:53

Good to see you back owl was wondering what happened to you.
Low crab skating sounds like great fun, but ouch to the wrist injury.
Your description of angry eating made me chuckle, and I'm sure I'm guilty of the same!
Really feel like a drink tonight - the steriods must be working their magic, I amost feel human but will plough on through dry January before I drown in a vat of red wine.....ahem, I mean pace myself and sip slowly.

lowcrabdiet · 18/01/2015 18:30

Roller skating MrsHooolie, I am a trainee ref with a roller derby league. I used to play but I'm so prone to minor, but very irritating, injuries that I quit before I did some real damage.

Skating is tonnes of fun. You should look out for local roller discos. Or if you can get some mates together just hire a local sports hall for an hour. Definitely get some wrist guards though. They have saved me from a broken wrist numerous times!

Silverjohn I'm sure you can be excused a simple vat of wine! You have had such a rotten time so far this year. Isn't red wine largely medicinal anyway Wink

MrsHooolie · 18/01/2015 20:09

I went to a roller disco with my DD recently and absolutely loved it!I have been looking on eBay for a pair but can't find any cheap ones.
So that's roller boots not inline skates that you do?I don't think I would be able to do the inline thing.
I will keep looking on eBay. I've seen some wrist guards and all the pads in sports direct, they look pretty strong.

MrsHooolie · 18/01/2015 20:09

Forgot to say you must be amazing at it then!Im impressed even when people can go backwards!

lowcrabdiet · 18/01/2015 20:44

No I'm really rubbish tbh! I'm always getting injured, so I have to take time off skates to recover. Then when I'm back on skates I shy away from learning new stuff for fear of further injuries. But I love it all the same Grin

Sports direct pads will be fine for roller discoing. It's quite easy to find quadskates online now that they are back in fashion. Rio is a good make if you just want to hit up the roller discos.

MrsHooolie · 18/01/2015 22:37

Thanks! My kids got skates for Xmas so once they are stable I'd love to be able to go around the park with them.

MrsHooolie · 18/01/2015 22:38

For ladies who like to snack I have made popcorn tonight. I made it in coconut oil,and I don't add any flavour after. Not many calories and great for mindless tv watching.

hmc · 18/01/2015 22:45

Too many posts for me to catch up on whole thread (but I will read it religously from henceforth) - but yes OP what you say really resonates with me. So sick of counting, weighing, measuring and starving. Have also done menu plan for next week - whole foods, not processed, lots of protein for satiety and fewer carbs. Was very fit in the past but have let it slide - this week have managed 4 x 30 minute runs (quite slow but a start at least). Definitely keen to move more and eat healthily

Silverjohnleggedit · 19/01/2015 07:41

Lowcrab my dcs love the local roller disco but I must confess to strictly observing the fun. I insist on wrist pads and it's always good to be reminded why they are so important. When feeling in good form I like to run and do bootcamps and I find myself enviously watching runners pounding the pavements - enjoy it hmc one day I'll be back!
Good news at weigh in this morning - I'm down to 66.4kg, that's a 1kg down, might even be more as steriods cause 1-2kg of fluid retention in most people.
Chilli outside, so I think another massive pot of veg soup is needed so see me through the week and to boost my vitamin uptake.

Hope the scales are kind to you all this morning!

nevergooglebrandybutter · 19/01/2015 07:45

my scales are being obstinant this morning.

why did they not move? I ate well, no binges, minimal treats, swam twice and ran twice.

scales didn't move!Angry

Chewbecca · 20/01/2015 10:38

Hello all, haven't been on this thread for a fortnight, and haven't been doing what I should've been all that time either. Too much working with lots of cakes for birthdays and no exercise whatsoever. I have managed to up my fruit & yoghurt intake and reduce chocolate and wine & I am 2lb down. would've liked much more but on balance, it's probably fair.

Shopping day today for the next few days so a chance again to make good choices and make sure my kitchen is filled with scrummy yet healthy food.

Just need to work the exercise in, am totally failing with that one & I think it's what I need.

Warmandtoasty · 20/01/2015 12:25

Hello, can I join please?

I've decided enough is enough and I must lose weight, I used to be a lovely 9stone3 and over the last 4 years it has crept up and I'm now 12stone3 so I need to lose 3 stone ideally. I'm rubbish at diets I never stick to them and I binge eat quite often. I'm hoping to eat healthier make better choices and do more exercise.

Snacking is where I struggle, I eat when I'm bored and I'm not currently working at the minute so boredom is certainly here! I'm thinking of making some lovely healthy snacks to have in the house but struggling to think of ideas, I will definitely make some banana bread.

Would be great to have people to support and get support from.

nevergooglebrandybutter · 20/01/2015 12:34

I'm doing well on the exercise but ravenous chewbecca.

Thankfully the scales did start to shift this morning though, so hopefully should see some results for next monday.

What kind of exercise do you enjoy?

nevergooglebrandybutter · 20/01/2015 12:37

I am also 12 stone 3 warmandtoasty.

For snacks i have pistachio nuts, dried apple rings, and fruit.

This morning I lifted up my 3stone son to see what the weight i'd lost felt like. Soooo heavy. No wonder i was exhausted!

Warmandtoasty · 20/01/2015 12:46

I bet, I've not got anywhere near as much energy as I used to and I feel crap all the time. I'm going shopping today so going to try and get tasty healthy stuff. I need to reduce alcohol and drink more water. I feel so annoyed with myself for letting me put this weight on, we are TTC and I bet this isn't helping! Glad the scales are starting to move for you never.

nevergooglebrandybutter · 20/01/2015 12:53

cutting alcohol had a big impact on me. not the calories in the alcohol so much as the snacking that occured after i'd had a glass of wine.

Chewbecca · 20/01/2015 13:02

I have joint problems so the sort of exercise I used to enjoy & do for pleasure, with the side benefit of keeping me fit and trim, (team sports) is now out of the options list for me and I'm on swimming mainly, I just don't fancy going when it's cold & late. Need to work it into my routine properly to make it work.

I belonged to a gym where i mostly used the cross trainer & bike until last summer - gave it up because I hardly ever showed up, was very poor value for money!
Personal trainer worked for me before too. The person I really liked has moved towns unfortunately, that was my excuse for giving that up. Would be a good idea to attempt to find someone else I like and commit to it.

nevergooglebrandybutter · 20/01/2015 14:09

I used to be a personal trainer Blush

Silverjohnleggedit · 20/01/2015 14:10

Cutting alcohol certainly helps with willpower, I've had a few moments that would have been seriously challenging had I had a few glasses of wine. But I'm only staying off wine for January...I'll be returning to wine but will be drinking much less in Feb though.

Chewbecca · 20/01/2015 17:13

Oh, that's great never. Why 'used'? I'd have thought it was a lifestyle sort of job that you kept on? Would kill two birds with one stone (hopefully), exercise whilst working!

nevergooglebrandybutter · 20/01/2015 20:54

don't get me started. best year of my life as an intern 'exercise specialist' working in Manhattan in my 20s.

came home post 9/11 to continue with proper career rehabbing old ladies.Confused Hmm

MrsHooolie · 21/01/2015 11:12

It's so annoying that it is so quick and easy to put weight on and yet it takes so much longer to get it off again.
I'm doing well with my eating and using My fitness pal which is good. However,my work is about to get busy and that's when it's going to get hard I think. So much harder to be committed when knackered.
Have a good day everyone. Smile
