Nice shiny new thread ...

OP posts:
lemonaid · 12/10/2006 10:50

Congratulations everyone, especially Tawny and Sue!

JackieNoHeadJustABloodyStump · 12/10/2006 10:53

Well done all - especially Tawny and sue. Just had a (2-finger) dark chocolate kitkat (someone brought them in to celebrate their birthday), so not a good start. But v delicious.

littlemisssensible · 12/10/2006 10:58

Well done Tawny and sue.

Ohhh look at those sparkles! You both look gorgeous in those crowns!

suejoneziscalmernow · 12/10/2006 11:03

KitKat are fine (particularly dark chic), four finger milk choccie ones are only about 270 cals so a two finger one shouldn't be more than 150 cals. Bargain.

JackieNoHeadJustABloodyStump · 12/10/2006 11:05

I picked the wrapper out of the bin (slightly to the surprise of the man sitting at the next desk I think ) and it's 190 calories, which isn't really too bad.

whooOOOoooOOOpsfallenoveragain · 12/10/2006 11:06

Hello sneaking on quickly
Well done everyone!
I'm not weighing myself for a while while I try and get back on track!
(And it is the boss's birthday and I'm about to make him buy cakes!!!)
He needs cheering up as I have just handed my notice in, I know not the greatest present but it will be fun in about an hour when I have a meeting with them I shall see what they try and offer me to stay!!

JackieNoHeadJustABloodyStump · 12/10/2006 11:08

Wow - exciting times, Whoops. Do you want to stay - is it a bargaining tool, or do you have another job?

whooOOOoooOOOpsfallenoveragain · 12/10/2006 11:28

I have been offered another job with less hours and more money although take home will be less because of the less hours!
I don't think bargaining will help as it is a person that is causing problems rather than anything else.
I have had 2 people here both reply 'BUGGER'when I told them I am am handing my notice in and the other two I have no intention of telling
I have an email telling me that neither of the bosses want me to go hense the chat. Although I am not convinced how well their solution of moving said person will pan out! I would like to stay but the atmosphere is getting unbearable luckily she is on a day off today too!

JackieNoHeadJustABloodyStump · 12/10/2006 11:32

Hope it all goes well - maybe getting out now is the best thing. See what they offer though.

lemonaid · 12/10/2006 11:42

WWB does a nice line in selling people into slavery, if that would help with the problem colleague...

Dottydot · 12/10/2006 11:44

Quick calorie question - not that I count them religiously, but I'd just be interested to know. I reckon my breakfast and lunch come to about 600 calories. Do you reckon an average dinner comes to about 900? I suppose it's a bit of a daft question, 'cos what's an average dinner - mine's usually pasta and sauce or rice and sauce. No pudding! Or pie and mash on a naughty day! Because I don't calorie count I've got no idea, but I know my breakfast and lunch comes to 600 so I was just wondering.

Some would say to be wondering this much I really haven't got enough work to do - so I'll go and look busy..!

whooOOOoooOOOpsfallenoveragain · 12/10/2006 11:51

Mmmmm Lemonaid that is something worth thinking about
Maybe I'll mention it to them in the meeting

suejoneziscalmernow · 12/10/2006 12:03

I work on a rule of thumb of Lunch being 500 cals and dinner being 500 cals, mostly becase I cook dinner mostly so tends to be more reasonable in cals for a larger volume.

I don;t consciously count either unless I'm buying my lunch in a shop when I make sure I don;t go over 500.

It sounds like a lot (by the time you've added breakfast and the odd snack) but I lose weight best when I am eating lots, (of reasonably healthy stuff) I don;t feel deprived and don't tend to overeat that way (don't snack much either).

Dottydot · 12/10/2006 13:04

Thanks Sue - I only know about the breakfast and lunch calories 'cos the packets tell me - I get an M&S low fat wrap (delicious and 275 cals) and small breakfast is about 200. But I don't count anything else like ingredients or meals I make, so I didn't have a clue how much an average meal might be. Just wondering if I was going massively over about 1500.

I think I'm maybe slightly anxious because my weight is now coming off so slowly - which I know is good from a long term point of view, but i'm not the most patient person..! Of my 20lbs off, I lost 12 in the first 2 weeks and then the other 8lbs have taken 8 weeks to go...

littlemisssensible · 12/10/2006 14:04

Hi Dottydot,

I used to count calories religiously because that way I lost weight. Trouble is it didn't really help me learn how to eat a normal healthy diet so all the weight plus more is back! Also I'd find myself doing the 'I'm so virtuous I've only had 500 calories today' thing!!! Very, very bad

But to get back to the point, I think you'll probably find dinner is likely to be in the 500 calorie region unless you eat large portions or you cook with/use a lot of fat e.g creamy sauces etc. Pie and mash might be nearer the 800 to 900 cals though (depends on the type of pie and whether mash includes butter or cream..Yum!)

Try not to go too much under the 1500 per day otherwise you can find your body slows its motabolism down and weight lose gets harder! This is the cycle I get myself into all the time. I have to constantly remind myself I should be eating healthily not just eating next to nothing!!!!

Probably trying to teach my grandma to suck eggs!!!
Anyway, hope that helps!

suejoneziscalmernow · 12/10/2006 14:06

sounds about right dotty 1lb per week is whats likely to happen on average from now on (if you want to be pedantic) probably only about 4lb was fat as about 2/3rds of wieght loss in the inital week or two is water, so it wouldn't have amde any difference to hwo you looked. Sorry {grin] but the 8lbs in the last 8 weeks has probably made much more of a difference to your appearance and health than the initial impressive loss.

Be gone with you woman and your impatient ways!

coppertop · 12/10/2006 14:12

Well done everyone.

I forgot to e-mail WWB (again ) but this week I stayed the same again.

WideWebWitch · 12/10/2006 19:41

Hello lovely thread and lovely people. This is day 4 of eating healthily and no booze for me and my skirt is looser already.

whooOOOoooOOOpsfallenoveragain · 12/10/2006 20:46

In the end I decided to stay where I am - only time will tell if I have made the right decision but I don't want to leave for the wrong reasons!
I will put up with the solution they are going to put in place and see - if things don't work out at least I know I can get another job
It has been a boost a)knowing I can get another job & b)being wanted where I am!!
Now for the weight loss to go the right way

JackieNoHeadJustABloodyStump · 12/10/2006 21:39

Hi WWW - glad it's starting to work.

Whoops - glad you've got something positive out of the situation - hope it works out for you, and you're right, must be a huge morale boost for you.

NumberNineteen · 12/10/2006 23:19

Hello everyone and well done to all the losers! I am really impressed and also v. envious - hmm, if only I were a better person. I didn't weigh in but I will do so for first time next Wed. Had a terrible, terrible day ate nothing till dinnertime through having absolutely no time, then ds "ordered" toad in the hole. (Which I actually loathe.) Made it for him, ate half myself, didn't enjoy it and feel have ingested pleasure-free calorific meal.

Anyway enough of my boring meal information, just dropped in to say congratulations on the losses and I hope to be joining you next week.

WigWamBam · 12/10/2006 23:24

"If only I were a better person" ... you have to stop thinking like that, you know. What you eat and how much you weigh doesn't define you as a person.

I know you said it was because you were busy, but do try not to skip meals ... it screws up your metabolism and makes you more likely to eat the fridge. Try and eat - you'd be horrified if your kids went right through until dinner time without having anything to eat, wouldn't you?

OP posts:
NumberNineteen · 12/10/2006 23:30

I know, and I kept thinking throughout the day, must grab something, must grab something. I would be ABSOLUTELY horrified if my son did that.

WigWamBam · 12/10/2006 23:31

Even just a banana or something ... you have to make time to eat.

Bloody hell, I sound like some old granny nagging her kids, don't I

No you don't. You sound like a wise friend.
