After Megglevache's inspirational thread and photos showing her FIVE STONE loss I am inspired to start yet again.

I'm not dieting. I'm just going to avoid wheat and sugar. And good waaaayyy back on wine.

I will not turn to food! It won't make me feel better if I over eat. I'll just get annoyed with myself.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 01/12/2014 11:52

Mixen - I'm doing it for health reasons too, I'm happy enough with the way I look but know I am not doing myself any favours carrying the extra weight around. It would be nice to have more choice in clothes too, winter's not so bad but I would love to be able to wear skimpier stuff in summer.

Someone on another forum was recommending a book which aims to change your relationship with food, going to go back and see what it was look it up I think.

The411 - what's your assignment for? I'm studying with the OU and really struggling to keep up at the moment, also I have to work at the kitchen table after the DCs are in bed and it's very tempting to nibble while I'm there. Need to kick that habit.

The411 · 01/12/2014 12:53

Whoknows I'm doing a a course to help me in my career at a local college. It's one day a week but lots of homework!

I had a sainsburys tomato and basil soup in the fridge so I just warmed that up and chucked some chickpeas and chilli flakes into
It. It was really tasty!

I've found somewhere to take my toddler to and I completed my tax return! Yay!

I just tried to focus on my tasks rather than turning to food to distract myself and procrastinate. That's a bad habit I have.

CiderwithBuda · 01/12/2014 12:56

Morning all. I know its afternoon really but it's been one of those mornings and I'm still drinking my smoothie!

Drank too much wine last night so woke up at 1am and couldn't get back to sleep. So DH got DS up and did school run and I stayed in bed. Was just getting up at 9 when a friend popped in for coffee. Lovely but I could have done without it!

Then another friend called - her DD was assaulted by her boyfriend at the weekend and moved home but is now talking about getting back with him and says nobody understands him. Police involved and turns out he has charges for assault going back to when he was 13.

TheRealMary - I just have a bog standard blender on my food processor. I blended kale, almond milk, protein powder, flax seeds, fresh mango and a banana. I quite like them and there are loads of variations.

DH got me a soup maker last Christmas. I was underwhelmed. Should I try it again? I have peppers in the freezer that I have been meaning to make into soup. I think I also have sweet potato.

Dinner will be the salmon and stir fried veg I was supposed to have on Saturday.

Not sure about lunch. Have some cold roast beef left from yesterday. Not sure about salad. Would love a beef sandwich but am not doing that!

TheRealMaryMillington · 01/12/2014 13:17

Omg your poor friend and DD. What can you do in these situations?

I really like my soupmaker Cider (though i would have been underwhelemed with it as a pressie), it's so quick and I like the blending all happening in the one thing - before I always ended up with a cauldron of soup boiling away making smells and then have to attack it with a stick blender. Mine has a sauté function which I think helps. Just had my soup - sweet potato, bit of leftover butternut, red pepper, onion, paprika, cayenne pepper and fresh coriander, with marigold stock. Was really delicious.

who knows I would like to know about that book. An acquaintance of mine is a health coach - she did a great free workshop on changing your relationship with food - asked us to think about the "stories" we made up about ourselves and how they become self-fulfilling prophecies. Also to describe what we would like our relationship with food to be. It was quite confronting in a way but a fortnight later I sort of feel ready to start to tackle it.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 01/12/2014 14:05

I looked back through the other posts (FB group) and couldn't find the book, so I have posted in hope that the person who mentioned it will re-post it.

I'm doing well so far, had a banana before going for my swim, then my chicken tikka salad plus some satsumas for lunch. However evenings are definitely the weak point of my day. I'm going to go and try and adult ballet class for the first time tonight.

Cider - sorry to hear about your friend's DD, what a difficult situation.

WildFlowersAttractBees · 01/12/2014 14:06

Afternoon all. I took DD to soft play this morning with a friend and managed to just have 2 cups of tea. Given how good the scones looked it was hard but having a fellow dieting friend there helped.

I skipped breakfast as DD1 got to school and realised her trumpet was on the bed at home so had to nip it to her! Now home and had a roast veg and spiced chickpea salad with a little feta. All lovely and full now.

About to prep the Hairy Dieters Spanish chicken for tonight's dinner.

Well done on completing the tax form and not snacking 411. I find stress/comfort/bored eating is my nemesis!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 01/12/2014 14:21

Oh, and I went to a friend's for coffee this morning, sat with a plate of biscuits right next to me at the table for an hour and didn't have one. That wouldn't have happened last week.

The411 · 01/12/2014 15:15

Well done on resisting the biscuits!
I have 2 very slim friends and in all the time I've known them, I've never seen them eat biscuits or cakes.
I don't even bother offering them anymore if they come over.

My sil is also slim and she eats whatever everyone else is eating. I've seen her eat baguettes for lunch and full on rice and curry for dinner the same day but she never ever snacks.

I think that's the way to go.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 01/12/2014 15:37

Snacking is my downfall I think, my meals are generally OK most of the time (although portion size is sometimes questionable!).

This thread has come at the perfect time for me, I've always done that classic yoyo thing of lost half a stone, coast at the same weight for a couple of months and then gradually put it back on again. I lost 1/2 a stone in Sept and have been at the same weight since, hopefully if I get kickstarted again now I can break the cycle and lose some more, otherwise I'm sure by Christmas I would have put that half stone back on again.

The411 · 01/12/2014 18:39

I had a good day today. I've had dinner and kitchen is now closed!

I wanted to do an excercise DVD but didn't get time. Please don't tell me I should do it in the evening - I'm a knackered wreck by the time the kids are in bed.
I did walk lots today though.

CiderwithBuda · 01/12/2014 22:27

TheRealMary - the soup maker was an 'extra' present! He knows better than to buy me something like that for a present! The exception to that was my KitchenAid mixer - I asked for it one xmas and he was nearly afraid to get it as I had drummed in the 'no house stuff' rule so well. My actual xmas present last year was fab. I got the Lego Death Star. I love Lego but DS has grown out of it and I mentiond one day that I would love to build the Death Star. So I got it for xmas. Complete surprise! Not sure he he will better it this year!

I was pretty good today but did have wine and then cheese and biscuits this evening. Zero willpower.

Tomorrow is another day!

I did well till I got home from the school run, by which time I was, predictably, starving, these low-carb lunches really don't fill me up for long (I know they're supposed to, but doesn't work for me). Anyway, I had a rice cake and a piece of jerky, plus a few cheesy footballs, not too bad. A moderate dinner (only a very small amount of mash with my sausages plus plenty of veg), but of course I was starving again a couple of hours later and ate some crackers and cheese.

However I went swimming at lunchtime and to adult ballet class tonight, so at least some will have burnt off. No walking to speak of though, only the school runs (probably totalling a mile at slow speed).

TheRealMaryMillington · 01/12/2014 23:46

Ballet! How completely fantastic! Is it hard?

who's Could you try something like lentil soup or Dahl instead of cold/protein based things, not low low carb but good carbs/low GI? Might feel more sustaining.

Death Star lego is ace present!

Took kids to family yoga this pm, lots of partner work so quite a good workout for me lifting three of them in turn, including massive 10 year old, really fun too. Had a sneaky little end of the baileys glass later... But at least now it is gone, won't buy any more till Xmas. I rarely drink usually but dark night s make me want to.

CecyHall · 02/12/2014 07:43

My lasagne type thing was so yummy last night. Aside from what I said I was going to have I added a mini orange, an apple and a teaspoon of peanut butter so a successful day food wise, no exercise as I had a bad headache all day.
Today I've just had Philadelphia on rye toast, lunch will be chicken and creamy leeks and dinner is bean chilli with sweet potato and veg.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 02/12/2014 08:01

The ballet wasn't too bad Mary, but it was a new class for beginners and I do Pilates regularly which really helped with the posture. My legs aren't used to the turned out position though, and my pilates class is this morning, will see how they feel during that.

Thank you for the suggestion, unfortunately I don't like the taste of lentils though, in fact I'm not very keen on soup generally, it's ok, but definitely one of those things I eat because it's good for you / need to use up leftovers etc rather than because I love it. None of the family are big fans either, no one ever asks for soup in our house. Whereas salads I do love.

The411 · 02/12/2014 09:31

I've only recently started to enjoy soups. I never used to be a fan but I realised I enjoy meal type soups more. I'll eat most soups now and live them in the winter.

I've got porridge for breakfast, butternut squash soup/stew for lunch and I haven't decided on dinner yet. I have some leftover roast chicken which I should use up today. Or I can shred it and freeze it.

CecyHall · 02/12/2014 09:52

whoknows I'm doing OU too, what are you studying?

I have got a yankee candle advent calendar which is very nice but I'm just burning the first tea light and its a really sweet smell, at the moment it's making me hungry. Maybe I can bombard my senses and be turned off by sweet stuff?

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 02/12/2014 10:02

I'm doing DD101, Intro to Social Sciences at Level 1 Cecy, what about you? This is my last level 1 module, I'm undecided whether to proceed to Level 2 (probably not TBH) as I only enrolled to do one short module three years ago and got on the transitional funding.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 02/12/2014 10:04

The411 - I much prefer meal type soups too (minestrone, Thai prawn noodle etc), I like a smooth soups as a starter, but somehow it doesn't feel like a proper meal unless you can chew it!

CecyHall · 02/12/2014 10:29

I'm doing languages, this is my first year, it's ok but not exactly exciting, I half wish I'd done creative writing now but nevermind!

I can't stand soup, I'd much rather just eat the veg whole and be done with it. I can manage stuff like chicken broth as more of a drink than a meal but I'll buy all the ingredients for a soup thinking I'll be all healthy and then can't face it and end up eating junk instead!

TheRealMaryMillington · 02/12/2014 19:00

Quite a virtuous day today

Advent running 30 mins; Yin yoga in a hot room as reward; quick swim
Almond milk blueberry seedy smoothie thing for breakfast; butternut squash soup for lunch; crisped spiced chickpeas for snack; broccoli soup for dinner, half a papaya for dessert. Copious green and herbal tea, plenty of water. I will not manage this when the PMT/exhaustion kicks in towards the end of the month so have to seize the day.

I am interested in the leeks as lasagne option. How did that go?

CecyHall · 02/12/2014 20:08

It was really good- difficult to cut but tasty (I did mine in small individual trays so didn't have to cut up a big lasagne). You kind of peel the leek and use each individual layer flattened as 'sheets' like the pasta. It felt so much less bloating than a real lasagne even though I did quite a few layers and 2 white layers.

CiderwithBuda · 02/12/2014 22:50

Hi - glad you are all still here!

Pretty good day here today.

Breakfast - low carb low sugar granola with almond milk, flaked almonds, few pecans, flaxseeds, goji berry and seed mix and a chopped banana.
Lunch - huge salad of various leaves, chopped chicken breast, cucumber, pepper, cherry toms and avocado with olive oil and wasabi mayonnaise. SO yum!
Dinner - chicken breasts in a tomato sauce, sweet potato wedges, kale and leeks.

Wine. Cheese and biscuits. Not so good!

No exercise either. Will rectify that but probably not this week.

I am out tomorrow night and Thursday night which isn't ideal but it's that time of year.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 02/12/2014 23:01

Cecy - I've got that Hairy Dieters book but have never done the lasagne, think there would be a mutiny in this house if I tried it, but I am tempted. The meatballs in tomato sauce is well liked here though.

Re the OU, I am enjoying it, but just struggling to find time to fit it in, the DCs don't go to bed till after 9 most nights now and it's impoosible to get much done with them still around - they watch a bit of TV earlier on but I am busy reading, playing or fetching from Scouts etc a lot of the time in the evening. I work three days and the other two seem to get swallowed up by housework, shopping and exercise. Weekends are hard too with DH and the DCs around - I have to study at the kitchen table and the interruptions are constant.

Mary - crispy spiced chickpeas sound nice, were they bought or made? I had some delicious bought ones a while back but can't think where I got them from now.

Anyway, not done too badly today. Another chicken tikka salad for lunch today, finished with a couple of Ryvita and a little butter and low fat cheese, kept me much fuller than yesterday. Ate half a pack of snack-a-jacks. Tea was bacon, egg and mushroom with toasted rye bread, a lot of fat, but not much carb. I've been having plain yogurt with a teaspoon of jam for pudding. Exercise-wise it was Pilates class. Tomorrow I will go for a lunchtime swim again (so long as I remember to take my bag to work).
