Oh, that's why I look fat...

Apparently I am fat! 13 stone, who'd've thunk it? Spurred on by the dreaded holiday photos I'm biting the bullet, would anyone like to join me? My BMI is 28.5. I'm hoping to lose 3 stone but 11st 6 would squeak me into a healthy BMI.

I've got My Fitness Pal and a Fitbit. I'm also embarking upon Couch to 5k. I've gained weight steadily in my 30s, I'm now 37 and clearly push has come to shove! I'm not averse to any faddy quick-fixes if anyone has any to share (!) but I'm currently basing my efforts on a review of the Hairy Dieters program on YouTube! Their lasagne is absolutely delicious by the way and there is no way you'd guess it was 350 calories a portion.

Well done on the losses mcdog and Liz. I'm sorry everybody's ill and such grotty weather as well. I've got DD asleep upstairs, she's got a nasty pale sheen to her when she emerges Sad. I did manage my run, in the rain, before she woke up this morning. I'm not sure I'll ever be one of these who run for pleasure! I'm on track though with the C25K and I'll weigh myself tomorrow. Hope everyone's feeling better soon.

I've lost 1 3/4 lbs, I'm rounding up to 2 to make myself feel better! So I'm 11 st 12 lbs now. That's still 6lbs overweight but a lot better than 13 st 1 lb! I'd really like to shift the 6 lbs in 2 weeks (I know, who wouldn't?!) as I'm going away with DH's work and I'll be meeting people, attending events etc and it would just give me more confidence. I'm also between bra sizes and quite uncomfortable and don't want to waste money buying for this size! So, a loss but a small one and a bit of a grump Wink although I should be grateful and I know it's a hell of a lot better than nothing.

Another 2lb loss ... Hurrah! 8lb total.
Ate late last night so was worried but all ok. ??

mcdog · 09/10/2014 11:54

Whoop for more losses!!! Well done everyone Grin

Does anyone know of a wearable device that tracks swimming lengths? Asking for DH, he's signed up for the great north swim in lake Windermere Shock

Chopstheduck · 09/10/2014 13:20

mcdog, I think a garmin would, btu they can be pricey. Do go cheaper on eBay though.

Well done on all the losses, you are all doing fantastically!

I think MFP can overestimate the calories burned on things like housework and food prep, so I would be careful. Though I agree, standing for 8 hours is going to burn a few cals!

I had the best time this morning, went mountain biking for the first time in aaages! 2 hours on the bike, 15 miles, lots of singletrack and banked turns, it was so exhilerating. I think I am going to feel it tomo though!

rocket74 · 09/10/2014 14:24

Does anyone know what to log a power plate session as? We do lots squats and lunges and weights. Don't just stand there Wink and normally sweat a bit! Logging it as yoga as would rather underestimate but any other suggestions?

anothercrackatit · 09/10/2014 16:16

Congratulations Rocket, you're making great progress. I don't know what a power plate session would be, yoga sounds fair enough if it is mainly adopting poses? I agree that MFP overestimates though, it more than doubles the calorific output shown on the rowing machine.

Chops your cycle ride sounds amazing! Such fun. Mcdog I wore my fitbit for over an hour in the sea without realising it's only "showerproof" and it's fine!

mcdog · 09/10/2014 17:45

Rocket, is body pump an option on MFP? That's pretty close to a power plates session I think.

Chopstheduck · 09/10/2014 18:48

mm, it does sound pretty close to pump and that IS an option.

Chopstheduck · 09/10/2014 18:49

I usually try to eat about half my exercise cals. It has worked for me!

rocket74 · 09/10/2014 21:23

Thanks might try logging as body pump if I make it to class tomorrow. Just walked home again and burned over 400cals!
Thought also I would recommend the English Provender soups for lunches. They are just the best and most filling I have found with proper chunks of real ingredients in them. Really helping to keeps lunches around the 350 mark. Eat the whole tub ?? No bread though obviously!!

mcdog · 11/10/2014 17:13

I've been eating soft boiled egg on toast for breakfast this week, it was lush (thank you for the egg suggestion). I didn't seem as hungry mid-morning either. What do you guys eat for mid-morning hunger pangs??

anothercrackatit · 11/10/2014 21:25

I very pleasingly realised yesterday that my tummy doesn't rest on my legs when sitting any more. I feel I've made a breakthrough. I don't eat until I'm hungry so I'm brunching rather than breakfasting as such. Loads of protein and not many carbs work well for me, so a nice salad with meat or eggs and beans or whole grains. I'm trying to keep my brunch to under 300 calories. I'm not a fan of soups but I've had a few.

Just had a huge roast with birthday cake for a relative so I'll keep it lower for the next few days.

Woohoo another 3lb loss - total 11lb now. A stone is within reach!!!
Hope everyone else is getting on ok Grin

Chopstheduck · 16/10/2014 18:50

well done to both of you!

anothercrackatit · 17/10/2014 08:53

How is everyone? I hope you had a good week. Congratulations Rocket, you're doing really well. I cracked and weighed myself on Wednesday (instead of Thursday) as I was feeling slim(!) and I'd lost 1 1/4lbs, taking me down to 11 10.75. This is not bad given the weekend I'd had Grin but I thought I'd have a really lean day and weigh again on the proper day etc. Anyhoo, I'd put on 1/ 4lb! Yesterday I was starving alllll daaaayyy. I've got a cold and I'm edging PMT-wards so I think realistically as long as I don't put any weight on I'll be doing ok for the next week or so.

I'm starting week 8 of C25K today. Im still finding it really tough but I guess that's the point isn't it?!

OP posts:
Chopstheduck · 17/10/2014 09:25

I've put on a few pounds, but my arms are really toned and my stomach is flattish, so I'm not worried. Have been doing a lot of mountain biking as it has been too wet for road biking and I'm still cautious about running too much. I've been swimming too, which is toning my shoulders and back nicely!

I think running is always pretty hard, as it is such an intense form of exercise. I do remember though the first time I ran for a while and suddenly realised I wasn't thinking about getting that one foot in front of the other - I think it was a while after completing 5k. Once you get to that stage, it can be so relaxing, getting out and clearing your head, and the miles can fly by. There are always tough runs though!

I REALLY want to run, but I have pump class today, so will do that and swim today. I don't really want to go into a stuffy gym, I want to hit the trails, but strength work is important too. I also need to get in some swim training. Weekend, I shall get in a run, and hopefully a bike ride with dt2 if it stays dry. He has a new road bike, and he is like a little rocket now! I was struggling to keep up with him yesterday on my hybrid with panniers full of shopping.

anothercrackatit · 17/10/2014 10:44

You do such a lot of exercise, Chops, you must have a lot of muscle and that's heavy stuff isn't it? Do you know your muscle/fat percentage? There used to be a machine in Boots that told you. If I can find it today I'll post mine, it'll be very, very lardy ;)

OP posts:
Chopstheduck · 17/10/2014 17:09

both my body fat and muscle fall into the top end of desirable! I had a body analysis thing done in the summer. Apparently I am solidly built Grin

I'm 5'11 and a size 12, I weigh 88kgs, 57kgs of that is muscle.

anothercrackatit · 22/10/2014 09:16

I love solidly built! I fear in rather more solidly built on the bottom than the top although the fat evened it out nicely!

I've been under the weather as has my family so things have been a bit hit or miss around here. Currently I've got a bit of an upset tummy which may aid weight las in the short term. I'm not going near the scales though, I feel grotty enough already! I failed for the first time at my C25K run on Monday, I'm on week 8 run 2 but I just wasn't up to it. My breasts are sore with PMT but have also shrunk meaning they were painfully bouncing about in my sports bra which is a bit much for a 28 minute run! I'm going to try today with whatever modifications I can rustle together. I may look a little odd Grin

How is everyone? I hope you are not all full of snot and grot. Is anyone else away for half term? I don't know whose DC are too young for half term to be meaningful.

Hi everyone [waves]

I had a lap & dye last Thursday and am still feeling pretty grotty, plus frustrated that I probably undid all my good work beforehand by living off chocolate biscuits for a few days!! How's things with everyone else?

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 20/11/2014 23:08

Hi everyone, I know no-one has added to this thread for a while, but does anyone who has listed their MFP names mind if I add them as friends? I am trying to religiously log every morsel of food on there, no matter what! But I think the more support/friends I had on there the more likely I am to eat well etc.
Thanks

RubySlippers77 · 27/11/2014 07:01

Hi ColdFeet

I'm not on MFP - found it too much of a faff, to be honest - but good luck and I hope it works for you!! Are you following a particular diet or just trying to be more careful?

Dowser · 02/01/2015 22:23

Enjoyed reading this?

Where are you all now?

RubySlippers77 · 04/01/2015 19:48

Have to admit, I was very lazy over Christmas/ New Year - not helped by OH hurting his back and moaning about it all the time so we couldn't exercise much, we usually walk a lot. Starting the healthy eating plan again tomorrow!
