Oh, that's why I look fat...

Apparently I am fat! 13 stone, who'd've thunk it? Spurred on by the dreaded holiday photos I'm biting the bullet, would anyone like to join me? My BMI is 28.5. I'm hoping to lose 3 stone but 11st 6 would squeak me into a healthy BMI.

I've got My Fitness Pal and a Fitbit. I'm also embarking upon Couch to 5k. I've gained weight steadily in my 30s, I'm now 37 and clearly push has come to shove! I'm not averse to any faddy quick-fixes if anyone has any to share (!) but I'm currently basing my efforts on a review of the Hairy Dieters program on YouTube! Their lasagne is absolutely delicious by the way and there is no way you'd guess it was 350 calories a portion.

mcdog, in the early days I used to have fish with cherry tomatoes and maybe some mushrooms. Bought frozen fish portions, dusted rather than battered, stuck it all in a dish in the oven for 20 minutes. Bit of balsamic over the tomatoes. The protein kept me fuller for longer rather than that carb spike in the mornings. Eggs on toast are great too, especially with wholewheat bread.

LizLemon · 02/10/2014 12:50

Lost 2.2lbs this week! Hurray!!

mcdog, I made the hairy bikers fruit compote and homemade granola, & have with a bit of yoghurt for the protein. It's delicious, and once it's made it's a case of chucking it in a bowl. DS likes it as well so we're both having it in the mornings.

Huge congrats for major achievements this week - marathon place for chops and another losing a whole stone! Brilliant.

Middleagedmotheroftwo · 02/10/2014 12:56

Hi everyone

suedlotofem here - please join me on MFP too. I think it's a fab tool, and really helps with the weightloss though doesn't stop you putting it all back on when you stop using it

anothercrackatit · 02/10/2014 14:19

Hi Middle! Nice to see you. I know, I got down to 11 stone 6 in November, just into the healthy BMI using MFP, relaxed, comfort-ate my way through a couple of things and didn't weigh myself again until September Grin. Onwards and upwards, learning from our mistakes!!!

Brilliant loss there Liz, well done you. Good for you Chops with the marathon, I'm sure you'll be fine, you're one determined lady! Mcdog do you like ham? It's great for breakfast with a tomato and much less bother than bacon and eggs.

Well done all ladies! I'm patting us all on the back, we'll get there! A very successful start Thanks

I'm joining! Lost a very motivating 6lb in my first week using MFP and have barely felt hungry or missing out on anything. I am on 1800cals though so maybe that's why??
Feeling happy and in control and a lot lighter on the inside - my stomach clearly isn't constantly fighting I think.
And I'm awake at work - some days I felt I was just eating purely to stay awake as constant tired. (2dc one with SEN).
Not staying away from carbs either as I think I would feel deprived and still managing a buttered cinnamon raisin bagel for breakfast which feels like a treat.
Managed to walk home from work too 4.3 miles in 90 mins including hills so a proper workout. Nearly got the bus but I never get time to myself so tried to enjoy it!! Just focussed on the next lamppost or corner shop to get me up the hill. Needed a shower when I got home though??

anothercrackatit · 03/10/2014 15:10

Wow Rocket, 1800 calories a day, that's a lot more than I'm on, lucky you! And losing 6lbs in the first week, it's obviously working. Congratulations!

I've got DH at home today and he just eats so much, so often! It's making me see my eating through his eyes and I havd to hold my hand up and admit it's got a little disordered and obsessive! I was borderline anorexic as a teenager and I'm always really careful not to allow my slightly obsessive nature to take over. Unfortunately I find it hard to find a middle ground, we'll get there together Smile

On a positive note my fitbit tells me I've walked 250km since I started using it which makes me rather proud. I do find it very motivating, how's everyone else getting on with theirs or tracking on MFP?

It's chucking it down here and instead of being on my scheduled run I'm in bed looking up running machines Grin

Turkey meatballs tonight for dinner, what's on everyone else's Saturday night menu?? X

Chopstheduck · 05/10/2014 06:54

Wow, well done ladies! You are all doing fantastically.

Nooo, crackatit, don't look at running machines - get OUTSIDE! Running in the rain is awesome Grin

I had a gorgeous bike ride into London on Friday, 30 miles - it was baking! Then met dh for cake and cocktails for lunch. Rather sad that that was supposed to be the last day of summer, though the cooler wetter will be far better for running. Will be getting out less on my road bike now though, and probably mountain biking more.

I was part of the mumsnet fitbug trial, and really wasn't impressed at all. Fitbit is supposed to be better I think? And 250km is very impressive.

I had masala dosa and coconut chutney for dinner last nice, was very yummy! Dosa are ground lentil pancakes, filled with spicy potato, onion and coconut.

anothercrackatit · 05/10/2014 20:54

Chops you're amazing with your exercising, truely inspirational. I finished week 5 of C25K yesterday, ran for 20 minutes for possibly the first time in my life! I feel fine today so fingers crossed :-)

Last night we had HD kebabs which weren't as nice second time around but I think that might be because I tried a bargain shop in Lidl rather than sainsburys. Tonight we had a lovely big, fat roast dinner, I'll try to work it off in the week.

How are you all getting on ladies? Resembling racing snakes yet? Only a matter of time.

Chopstheduck · 06/10/2014 07:35

I went running yesterday for the first time it what feels like ages. I enjoyed it so much, really miss running regularly. My leg def isn't right still, but it held up ok. Will have to keep running to a minimum for a few more weeks yet, but hopefully can ease back into it. Managed 5k and it was relaxed and easy, which was a huge relief, just wish my leg would behave.

Couch to 5 k is an amazing plan. You will soon be running 5ks with ease!

Body pump and swimming lesson today! Haven't managed to get to the pool all week, so that will be interesting!

anothercrackatit · 06/10/2014 16:16

What's wrong with your leg Chops? I've got blisters again from my blooming new shoes, I'm going to give them to my daughter. I ran this morning, hopefully they'll have cleared up by the day after tomorrow for the next run.

I'm snuggling at home away from the rain with my children, DD is under the weather. It's all rather lovely although obviously I'd rather she wasn't ill :-)

mcdog · 06/10/2014 17:31

I love the idea of swimming lessons, just need to pluck up the courage!!

rocket74 · 06/10/2014 22:29

Got home from work to find the innocent Wink diet saboteurs had been busy. One large bag choc raisins. One large bag minstrels. One very large Eccles cake all sitting on the kitchen side!! After a few sideways glances I shoved them all into a sainsburys bag out of sight. My MIL can be a feeder , my DS def puts on weight when he spends too much time with her Hmm
Didn't succumb all night and DH made the Eccles cake disappear without too much complaining whilst I drank a clipper bedtime tea which is very yummy.
My trousers felt looser today which felt great. They are a size 20 though but hey little steps!!thats my update!

Natalie1989xo · 06/10/2014 22:35

I am going to add some of you also, in a bid to make my diary accessible so I can be publicly shamed when I eat crap! I am NAR2013 on mfp Smile

Chopstheduck · 07/10/2014 12:24

mcdog - you should go for it! They break down the stroke so you concentrate on one thing each week, it is brilliant - and there is a real diversity of pupils in the groups too, and everyone is in the same boat. I can now swim properly for the first time in my life!

anothercrackatit - tendon issues :( Came on out of the blue during the summer break. I had been having tightness in my calf, and must have strained or torn something. It is getting better though.

I am soo hungry atm. I think the cold weather is making me want to eat non stop. Thankfully I have lots planned for the rest of the week, including 2 days of mountain biking, so I should be able to burn it all off.

TurquoiseCat · 07/10/2014 13:57

Can I join in please? You all inspired me to download MFP and I even got off my lazy arse went for a brisk pushchair shove for half an hour.

I am now damp with both rain and sweat though...

I'm turquoisecat85 on MFP, if anyone wants to add me?

TurquoiseCat · 07/10/2014 16:14

Here's a question, what do you reckon barista-ing would be under (cooking/food prep, light cleaning?)

I'll be damned if I'm not counting standing up for 8 hours!

mcdog · 07/10/2014 16:34

Anyone else's MFP gone mental??

TurquoiseCat · 07/10/2014 16:50

The iPhone app seems to be okay?

anothercrackatit · 07/10/2014 23:07

Hi Turquoise, I've sent you a request on MFP. I'd put barista-ing down as cooking if I were you, it is good prep really isn't it? Well done for the walk as well.

My house is full of ill children which is making me feel a little trapped and twitchy now! DH has come over all feeble this evening which I really struggle not to find irritating (bad person, I know!). I'm hoping to fit in a half hour run tomorrow, I have to exercise the dog so it's not purely for me (!), set two of week six of C25K. I've got to keep at it as I know if I lose entheuiasm I'll never start again Blush

OP posts:
mcdog · 08/10/2014 06:59

Hi turquoise, I've added you too. I agree that you should put it through as cooking, it's similar I guess???

Added an abs class to my body jam last night, feeling it this morning :)

mcdog · 08/10/2014 07:12

3lbs lost this week, very happy to be finally getting some results on the scales as well as in the way clothes feel :)

Anyone else had good results this week? we can elaborate together as MFP team mumsnet!!

LizLemon · 08/10/2014 10:15

Hello everyone! Nice to see some other new faces too. Will add you on mfp when I log in.

I had a nasty bug this week, and haven't been exercising over and above the school run (we walk, and just doing that I usually clock up about 8000 steps a day). I also wasn't counting calories, because my appetite was all over the place, plus our house purchase fell through. I just ate when I felt like it, and Not Biscuits, and this morning have lost a pound Grin

excellent news on the loss, mcdog!

TurquoiseCat · 08/10/2014 10:36

Mcdog, that's really good! And I'm very impressed LizLemon - weight loss without thinking about it is the best! Especially from someone whose nickname makes me think of cheesy blasters! Wink

Any motivation today has been drowned in a sea of sore throat and snot, but I might battle out later if it gets a bit less miserable out there.

Food prep it is then, it's only two days a week, but I'm so knackered after it I'll be glad to have it count somewhere other than my achy knees Grin
