New thread for a new week.

Well done Lemonaid. Thank you for the 2 stone award WWB - those are much more attractive than the actual 2 stone of lard I've lost - wouldn't mind having those ones.

And, Mrs WigWamBam, consider this a kick up the bum for giving yourself that award - you are not a pig of any sort - and remember the 'don't beat yourself up' rule . Now move on, woman.
(was that stern enough? )

suejoneziscalmernow · 21/09/2006 11:00

OK WWB - thee an'me have got to sort ourselves out this week. I have made a start by having weetabix for breakfast instead of bacon sandwich that I had twice last week . I think I'm going to try to eat healthier food, just more of it as comfort food, rather than resorting to M&S ready meals.

Will walk down to the tube tonight and go back to aqua on Friday which I've missed Mon and Wednes.

Any other suggestions?

lemonaid · 21/09/2006 11:17

Welll done Jackie! That's an entire toddler you've lost there .

And, SJ and WWB -- if you really let yourselves go for a week then 3 and 4lb isn't so bad. I bet it will come off again fairly quickly. Follow the creed, draw a line and move on.

WigWamBam · 21/09/2006 11:28

Jackie, I'm allowed to give myself a Pig of the Week award. And it was at least a glamorous pig ...

I'm moving on - the line is drawn and this is a new week - but the kick up the bum is necessary so thanks for that! I hope you're right about it going off again quickly, lemonaid ...

Sue, I don't know what to suggest; we both know what we're doing ... self-medicating with food to make ourselves feel better. But we also know that it doesn't work. Trouble is, I don't know what to do to break that habit - it's a lifelong thing. My mantra this week is going to be "Just for today" ... just for today I chose to be nice to my body. Then make the same choice the next day. One day at a time ... it's a bit like being an alcoholic really.

I walked home from town today rather than catching the bus, it's a couple of miles so that should help. Mind you, I probably do 3.5 miles every day just doing the school run and it hasn't made a blind bit of difference yet!

OP posts:
JackieNo · 21/09/2006 11:31

But if you weren't doing those 3.5 miles, WWB, I bet you would notice the difference, either in weight or in fitness. And just think of the sunshine you're getting - must improve your mood, at least at the moment (lovely and sunny here - hope it's the same with you).

WigWamBam · 21/09/2006 11:34

It's very sunny here, yes. I have the windows and doors open, can hear the birds singing (am hoping that the cat ignores them, I can't cope with trying to rescue another sparrow from the jaws of the toothless wonder). It was a nice morning for walking.

OP posts:
suejoneziscalmernow · 21/09/2006 11:35

OK WWB will join you with the "just for today" ethos this week (in fact may be "just for this hour"!). I feel more positive about it atm, may not have the perfect week but I can do it one hour at a time and one bad hour won't have to make the next hour a disaster too.

Funny how even a small thing like having weetabix for breakfast seems like a victory!

JackieNo · 21/09/2006 11:35

It's really starting to feel autumnal, but in a good way. I love autumn (October birthday - maybe that's why?). Lots of conkers around too.

suejoneziscalmernow · 21/09/2006 11:37

Oh and well done Lemonaid - and you won;t like my sister, lemon, she's THIN and she rows as a hobby! AS in rows skinny little teeny weeny boats that I'd struggle to get one leg on!

WigWamBam · 21/09/2006 11:39

I love the Autumn - we walked to school this morning in that really soft, golden light you get when the sun's low, and dd was kicking her way through leaves, picking up conkers (she's got about 30 of them all in her drawer at school - not sure what she's planning on doing with them!). I want to take her out chestnutting, maybe next weekend if the weather holds out.

Sue, I know exactly what you mean about Weetabix for breakfast feeling like a victory! An hour at a time is good - and it might be easier to see the "good" hours outweighing the "bad" ones that way.

lemonaid · 21/09/2006 11:48

You're starting to sound like Tanya Byrom (Byron? Never been entirely sure of her name) prescribing a sticker chart...

WigWamBam · 21/09/2006 11:53

That wasn't a compliment, was it!

I hope I'm not coming across as if I'm prescribing anything ... I'm trying a new coping mechanism, that's all - not suggesting anyone else joins in if they don't want to.

OP posts:
suejoneziscalmernow · 21/09/2006 11:56

Oooh, do I get a sticker chart ?

lemonaid · 21/09/2006 11:59

It was a value-neutral statement and certainly not a criticism -- just that the imagry of taking one hour at a time and seeing how the good:bad ratio stacked up conjured up a strong memory of seeing TB doing something similar once.

One of the things that I found absurdly motivating when I did WW meetings ten years or so ago was collecting the little stickers for different milestones and putting them on my progress chart. The little virtual icons with WW online just don't have the same tactile appeal so actually, I think a sticker chart for healthy eating could work quite well. In fact, I think an awful lot of child psychology techniques could work quite well a lot of this is about unlearning habits that became ingrained in childhood, after all.

suejoneziscalmernow · 21/09/2006 12:00

You are beginning to make me seriously consider a sticker chart!

JackieNo · 21/09/2006 12:05

How about this one ?

JackieNo · 21/09/2006 12:08

Completely off-topic, but found these stickers on the same website and pmsl. Not necessarily the most sensitive choice, but great for MNers.

suejoneziscalmernow · 21/09/2006 12:13

Very funny - but have to say (about the earlier stickers) that I'm not very motivated by fruit and veg

WigWamBam · 21/09/2006 12:14

I wasn't really advocating keeping a tally of the bad versus the good! I just thought that taking it hour by hour, as Sue suggested, might mean it felt more positive - if you only have one "bad" hour in ten, it's easier to see the positives than taking it day by day.

I wonder if you can get piggy stickers ...

Those WW stickers you used to get ... do you know I actually put smiley stickers on everyone's chart for half-stone and stone markers? You can't see them but they're there! A smiley face on a post doesn't have quite the same appeal though.

I had cottage cheese salad for lunch [smug emoticon] with some suchi (baby M&S one) and a lo cal M&S choclate muffin desert. beginning to feel normal again.

JackieNo · 21/09/2006 15:19

Sounds good suejonez. Not to mention yummy, o fellow cottage cheese fan. (actaully that sounds worryingly like some sort of an insult, but wasn't meant to be).

flutterbee · 21/09/2006 15:25

Sorry I haven't been around much but I started college today and ds (10 months) went for his first day at the childminders. He's due back in half an hour.

Anyway I put on 2lb this week (bugger) but I did thourghly enjoy all the food I have eaten this week as dh and I have been slobbing on our hols all week. Back oin the wagon now though.

Catch up with you all soon, wwb please update my details if you see this, I'm off to chill on the sofa with a cup of tea

JackieNo · 21/09/2006 15:27

How was college, flutterbee? Hope it went OK.

suejoneziscalmernow · 21/09/2006 16:01

putting on 2lb on holiday (even if at home) if fine really. And I would just like to add that I know suchi is spelt "sushi"!

I have just spent 2 hours proof reading our three year strategic plan and correcting a gazillion grammatical errors "no, you can't put a comma in front of and", "no, you can't say cost are, it's cost is" etc etc etc (a whole PAGE of etc) .

Am going to apply for "Grammar pedant of the Year"

JackieNo · 21/09/2006 17:31

Sounds like hard work (but basically what I do for a living). You could be suejonezisagrammarcurmudgeon (but it would take forever to sign in to MN).
