Mmm, maybe you're right; thinking on a Monday morning might be a bit too much to ask ...

Sorry Jackie meant to say thank you - they did indeed arrive. Thanks as well for the book I am slowly reading it in the bathroom... I need a bit of a laugh so it helped!

JackieNo · 25/09/2006 11:34

Oh good - glad it arrived safely .

suejoneziscalmernow · 25/09/2006 15:35

Inspired by Littlefish's DD's fantastic sweater and having more time to kill than I'd expecetd - I have started knitting again. Done the front of a sweater for Junior over the weekend, had to look up how to cast off

JackieNo · 25/09/2006 17:27

That'll be something you can take to while away the hours in Kaz, as well, won't it, sue. I think Dottydot's into knitting, isn't she? I was confused at an early age by being half taught both the British and Continental ways of knitting, and never recovered .

suejoneziscalmernow · 25/09/2006 17:58

theres a CONTINENTAL way of knitting? With garlic?

suejoneziscalmernow · 25/09/2006 17:58

yes did think I might take some wool with me, though not sure how much space I have in the case!

Dottydot · 25/09/2006 19:16

I'm still knitting away here! Having what I feel is another fat week, but then last week I managed to lose 3lbs so I'm completely confused... I'm learning to realise when I feel full, but I'm feeling full a lot, which makes me feel fat/bloated. But I'm usually full after eating good things these days, so I think I've got to learn that feeling full is OK!

Bumped into someone today who's lost 30lbs and is looking really good, but is doing it by doing the milkshake diet - is it Slimfast? I was a bit worried when she told me - won't she just put it on when she stops?

JackieNo · 25/09/2006 19:26

Yes - can't really remember the details of the continental way of knitting, sue, but it involved having the wool under your arm, I think. Anyway - whatever it was, it was enough to put me off knitting for life, I'm afraid, although I'm in awe of people who can do it.

MrsJohnCusack · 25/09/2006 20:37

sue I keep missing you - am only on t'internet at random intervals and for short times. Hello! am trying to keep up with all your news though and look forward to not seeing you on here as it means you'll be on your way!

I don't think I have a particularly sad story about food really, especially now having read the others on here - so . I've got no reasons for overeating other than the mad things going on in my head.

AM still feeling pretty grotty over here, stinking cold and v.unmotivated and feeling friendless and pathetic. However we've now had 2 nights where DD and I have slept at the proper time so hopefully it will get better. And on a weight/fitness points, lots of walking as my parents' car is broke. Annoying but possibly no bad thing!

TitianRed · 25/09/2006 21:04

Managed to lose 6lbs last week, that's 11lb in 2 weeks. Most of this week's was due to being ill though! If only one could sustain this type of weight loss! I'm aiming for 3 next week, to make my first stone. Good luck everyone else. XX

JackieNo · 25/09/2006 21:04

Sorry to hear you're still not feeling right, MrsJC. Hope things improve for you soon. And all that walking has to be good. Any house hunting so far, or is it too early for that?

JackieNo · 25/09/2006 21:05

Well done TitianRed, but about the reason for some of the weight loss. It's very motivating, seeing the weight come off, isn't it.

TitianRed · 25/09/2006 21:15

Thanks, Jackie. I'm just about better now - had this fluey virus, so spent much of weekend in bed. Yes, seeing your body change is a great motivator. Walking round work today I had to keep hoiking my size 24 trousers up! I wonder when my colleagues will start to notice. I haven't told anyone at work what I'm doing, as I don't want to make a big thing about it. I'm doing it for me, my children and my husband (in that order!) I want to be able to go into different clothes shops and I want to be a good role model for my children. I also think my lovely DH deserves to be seen with someone who looks after herself, not someone who has let herself go. I know how very lucky I am with DH - he has never once pressured me to lose weight. One of my targets (way down the line) is to weigh less than DH - he is an annoying 6', blond, blue-eyed, slim (13st) love god!!!! We have been together for 8 years and I have always weighed at least 3 stone more than him!

JackieNo · 25/09/2006 21:23

Knnow what you mean about the trousers. I started as a size 22 going on 24, and I'm definitely now a 20 - had some time going round Oxford on my own on Saturday (bliss!) and tried on loads of stuff - it's amazing that just dropping one dress size feels like it's opened up a whole raft of shops that I feel I can go into and try stuff on. I have to say, it's also a bit bewildering (but in a good way) having increased choice. And even when things didn't fit (I did try a couple of size 18 things but I'm really not fitting in them yet) I wasn't all depressed like I used to be - the 'Oh god I'm so fat and horrible' but now it's 'well I'm not there yet, but I soon will be' and it's fab.

TitianRed · 25/09/2006 21:58

You've done brilliantly so far! Well done!

Dottydot · 25/09/2006 22:15

JackieNo - i know what you mean - the freedom of being able to try something on at M&S and not feel silly, was amazing. I'm so programmed to just go to Evans - have bought everything there since I was about 18 (even my wedding outfit!) I can't imagine buying stuff from anywhere else. Maybe when the next stone comes off I'll be waltzing into every other shop (running up huge debts! ).

WigWamBam · 26/09/2006 16:43

M&S is a long way off for me ... unless you count the few items that they grudgingly stick to the back of the store, behind a screen so the "normal" people don't have to look at it, and call their outsize collection. I shall be in Evans' stuff for a long while yet ... which is a bit disheartening, actually!

Titian, one of my interim targets is to weigh less than dh ... again, it's going to take a while because there's about 4 stone between us. I've never, ever weighed less than him. Don't go saying that he "deserves to be seen with someone who looks after herself, not someone who has let herself go"; being large doesn't equal being unattractive. He deserves the person that you are inside ... the person he chose and who he loves regardless of your size.

TitianRed · 26/09/2006 18:56

Thanks WWB! Don't know what to say really, but, thanks!

whoopsfallenoveragain · 26/09/2006 19:02

Hello, sorry been a bit off track was signed off work yesterday with stress but am going to go to the gym and weigh myself tomorrow! so will report in but being at home does nothing for my diet! but hopefully a good workout may get me back on track!

Dottydot · 26/09/2006 21:51

WWB - sorry, didn't mean to bring you down re: M&S clothes - I'm still very much an Evans girl! And I'm also exactly 4 stone heavier than my dp - can't imagine ever weighing less than her - in fact I won't, 'cos I wouldn't exist, but I'm hoping one day I can be the same size (she's a 14) so I can finally nick her clothes..!

WigWamBam · 27/09/2006 11:07

Oh, it wasn't you, Dotty ... it's me being fed up of being this size and it taking so long to shift! Plus the fact that as far as the clothes manufacturers are concerned you just don't exist if you're over a size 14. I have been looking for a waterproof jacket - a walking type one - and even the OS mens won't fit me because as someone said to me in Oswald Baileys, "But fat people don't do walking". You're just not allowed to be fat and have the same clothes as everyone else takes forgranted. And when they do make the clothes in larger sizes they do what M&S does and stick them right at the back, usually hidden behind a screen ... just one of my bugbears really, guaranteed to get me ranting

I like the idea of getting to be the same size as your dp and stealing her clothes! Not sure I'd want to steal dh's but it would be a nice feeling to be able to. His weight goes up and down and we're generally about 4 stone apart ... it will be nice when I'm finally smaller than he is.

OP posts:
JackieNo · 27/09/2006 11:11

Mmm - I know what you mean, WWB. Drives me up the wall too. I also hate the fact that clothes over about size 20 all seem to be made in horrible polyester fabrics - why can't they just make them from natural fabrics? And the sleeves are really badly finished, with no cuffs, or anything, just tiny little hems that look really badly sewn.

WigWamBam · 27/09/2006 11:19

Oh yes, plastic fabrics. Drives me mad! And as you say they're usually badly made ... Evans in particular are terrible quality yet they have some of us over a barrel because we just can't buy clothes anywhere else on the High Street. I bought some styled T-shirts there over the Summer, and the first time I washed them they shrunk, the seams started coming apart ... yet where else can I go?

Plus they always make their tops short ... some of us have a Tweedledum-style stomach that we like to hide!

OP posts:
JackieNo · 27/09/2006 11:26

Oh yes - I've got one of those stomachs. I have a feeling it's not going to go away, either. Even if (sorry, when) I lose the weight, I'm still going to be left with a horrible pouch of skin. Still - that's what big pants are for, isn't it.
