...but I don't know what.

I am sick of being on a diet, off a diet, on another diet, off that diet to, ad infinitum.

I desperately need to lose the two stone I put on while pregnant four years ago, but I can't seem to stick to anything. I am currently falling off the slimming world wagon, having previously tried most things out there - WW, low carb in various guises, hypno, cal counting...

Not sure what I hope to gain from posting this. I am just so fed up of it all and so fed up of being fat and needed somewhere to rant.

As you were.

TRY NOT TO SNACK
your body really, really does not need it.
Gaps between eating of at least 4 hours are ever so important to allow your insulin system to do its job properly.
only Type 1 diabetics need to keep their sugar level up.
The rest of us, especially any Type 2 diabetics, need to get theirs stable at a lower level.

Your body copes overnight without a top-up
so it can cope without top-ups during the day.

Breakfast : whatever suits you but as little as possible and plenty of water or milk or tea.
NO SNACKS
Lunch : whatever suits but nothing with more than 5 ingredients
NO SNACKS
Supper : a nice meal so that you sleep well, possibly including a square or two of good chocolate for those who can eat the stuff, unlike me
NO SNACKS

repeat and the weight will fall away.

I just went to the gym for the first time in a month.
I've put on 2lb and two inches round my waist.
THey will be gone in a week.

EmpressOfBedlam · 29/08/2014 12:54

Oh god I am not taking photos!!! Well done for 11 miles.... I don't think I could run 11 steps.. Blush

I agree mint logging calories is very eye opening indeed.
I am still aghast at tea being 45 calories!!!

Krakken · 29/08/2014 13:29

Talkinpeace I like your way. You make it sound so easy! It seems like it will suit me.
Today I had no breakfast. I took the children out. They wanted subways so I had a veggie delight which I think is less than 300 cals. I was still hungry when I got home so I had some fat free Greek yoghurt with tinned mandarins. I'm not going to eat now until dinner.

SomethingOriginal · 29/08/2014 13:47

TalkinPeace I needed that talking to Grin

I've downloaded the My Fitness Pal app as well now, so I have no excuse.

Ledkr · 29/08/2014 14:14

Ok so after my worst ever gallstone attack last night ive got an urgent referral to the surgeon and have been told to eat a strictly fat free diet Shock
We are off to Thorpe park today so the usual picnic food is a no no as is the in park food.
I'm still feeling a bit crap but I've managed to raid waitrose for fat free food.
If anyone has any fat free recipe or meal ideas then let me know.
I told dh I was going to live on wine and fags!!

ChesterDrawers · 29/08/2014 15:54

Afternoon all, sorry I've been AWOL on my own thread, but I am still feeling a bit shitty. Am thinking its genuine illness now rather than carb related especially as I'm no better after two mini millionaires shortbread things which MUST be carby. I'll live anyway, just snuggled up with DS watching A Bug's Life.

Thinking I might follow TalkinPeace's suggestion - I never really NEED to snack and do it just because. But do you NEVER snack! like ever? I also like the suggestion of a bit of dark chocolate Grin. How do you fit wine into your plan Talkin please say there's wine?

Well done to everyone who's doing so well and to those of you who are exercising, especially Crunchie for that epic run in the rain.

I realise I sound like I'm boasting about my run but it was a necessity as I have this half next week. I am very very slow and certainly don't look very sleek. I've been running for 4 years so have built up my fitness and distance - I started with c25k.

In other news, I just bought a cashmere jumper. Have wanted one for ages and it was half price. It's a dark charcoal grey v neck. I'm imagining it with a crisp white shirt and tailored trousers for work. And with me being much slimmer inside said outfit. Smile

Imliketotallyummm · 29/08/2014 16:07

TalkInPeace, you make it sound incredibly simple Wink Without a doubt very good advice Smile

starsinthenight · 29/08/2014 16:26

Am in a v v bad mood. Woke up that way, and still roaring. This is going to be v tough. Taking out my denial calorie counting on nearest & dearest. Sorry to be so glum everyone. Sad

TalkinPeace · 29/08/2014 17:49

Chesterdrawers Wine is an essential part of my version of a healthy diet ; but only at weekends
because giving your liver a break four days a week helps your digestive system re learn how to look after itself

BUT
while you are getting the weight back under control, calorie count your alcohol strictly as its scary how calorific booze is

15 minutes till Wine o clock in the TiP household

Ledkr
Hmmm, that sounds like really hard work.
And be careful because really low fat diets are linked to mood swings.
Lots and lots of vegetables : the pots of fresh soup are good, as are stir fries (fry in soy sauce and a spray of oil) with steamed fish
Really low fat is things like steamed white fish on a bed of garlic steamed veg with a fruit coulis over it ...

TalkinPeace · 29/08/2014 17:52

PS - no. I do not snack. I never have. I was brought up to eat at meal times and not in between. My kids are now that way too. Its easier, less messy in the house, cheaper and good for weight control.
Midnight munchies after too much wine happens sometimes, but I skip a meal the next day to balance it.

MillyMollyMandy78 · 29/08/2014 17:52

Been good with the diet so far today, though no exercise, unless you count half hours gardening. Raging pmt, stomach cramps, backache and cravings. I would kill someone for some cake or chocolate... Or cake and chocolate! Urghh!

AddictedtoCrunchies · 29/08/2014 18:08

Stars I'm sorry you're feeling a bit rubbish. Tomorrow's another day Thanks Brew

nutribullet · 29/08/2014 18:32

Great to see you all doing well and giving each other support and some great advice. This, I know, is really going to help. Sorry I have been slow to start. I've been away with family and back Sunday morning so will weigh in then. Going to be 11st 6lbish I reckon. 5'2" so entering the obese category. As if just overweight not bad enough!

EmpressOfBedlam · 29/08/2014 20:02

Here is my tea-

Something has got to change...
EmpressOfBedlam · 29/08/2014 20:04

Bliley led that sounds really awful Sad

Keep going stars it's so worth making the change.

mrsb369 · 29/08/2014 20:30

PLease can i join you? I have started slimming world online 2 weeks ago and have lost 9lb (this was on the back of a holiday pig out though!). This brings me in at a worrying 15.13! at 5 foot 9 this is not good, so any support to keep on track would be fantastic! thank you

JeniJones · 29/08/2014 21:14

O Mint you have added me to the spreadsheet. Many thanks. Im not good at that sort of thing. Grin

JeniJones · 29/08/2014 21:16

I havnt had time to eat much today. 2 morning rolls with some Bon M strawberry jam. Couple of cups of tea and have a beef in white wine casserole in the oven which will be served with jacket pot and peas in about half an hour. I need catch up with thread as its moving wonderfully quickly.

JeniJones · 29/08/2014 21:17

Beef in red wine not white.....that would just be wrong.

JeniJones · 29/08/2014 21:21

Intersting to read how everyone is "eating".
I do mindful eating (using Paul Mckennas cds and books) and eat whatever I want (as long as I am truly hungry).

TalkinPeace · 29/08/2014 21:24

mrsb welcome aboard

AND
I've just realised that this thread has just reached the utterly healthy, long lasting
"non competitive recipe" stage
say what y'all say
simple
everybody is helping everybody else to eat well and share information and ideas
FWIW y'all are coming up with very similar recipes to the ladies on my debt threads AND the people on the fasting theads
WHY?
Simple
healthy eating is cheap
end of

Have a good weekend everybody (this thread is lacking in Men btw : we have several on the 5:2 threads and they add a really good perspective .... get your DHs to join the crew)

kaylacrackers · 29/08/2014 21:25

BAD day foodwise. I'm not even going to write it here because it's so awful.

I'm going home tomorrow and have a healthy breakfast and lunch planned out. Not sure about dinner yet but I will go to the shops when I'm home and buy something healthy. Not even quite sure how today happened. I think it's partly that it's the last real day of summer holidays. Back on track tomorrow, I haven't really enjoyed eating the rubbish today and I haven't felt good for it either.

Also haven't drank enough water.

Tomorrow I'm back on it with food and Sunday I'm back to exercising. No more excuses. It's back to reality when I get back tomorrow anyway so the routine will do me good. No more summer holiday visits to the bakery for starters!

I saw someone suggested measuring yourself, I did that last week. Not sure how often I want to remeasure but I'm glad I have it written down so when I am ready I will know the stats. Also bracing myself to take a "starting photo". In the past I have always taken the photo and been so upset I've promptly deleted them but this time I'm going to really try to keep it!

JeniJones · 29/08/2014 21:30

kaylacrackers I saw a photo of myself yesterday and it wasn't horrendous but it wasn't how I want to look either. That's why I joined this lovely thread. I want to look at a photo and love what I see.

TalkinPeace · 29/08/2014 21:31

kayla
put it onto MFP :
please,
for your own sake :
you'll find it cathartic and the kick in the teeth to yourself of keying it all in will stop you stressing long term
and the kicking anybody else gives you will be nothing like the next 20 minutes
and you'll always be able to look back over it

tomorrow is another day
BUT
that is not an excuse to defer things

and yes, do the pictures : incontravertible evidence is the best
