...but I don't know what.

I am sick of being on a diet, off a diet, on another diet, off that diet to, ad infinitum.

I desperately need to lose the two stone I put on while pregnant four years ago, but I can't seem to stick to anything. I am currently falling off the slimming world wagon, having previously tried most things out there - WW, low carb in various guises, hypno, cal counting...

Not sure what I hope to gain from posting this. I am just so fed up of it all and so fed up of being fat and needed somewhere to rant.

As you were.

My picture is vile. When did I get that bad? How did I get that bad? That's it though. 28lbs is going. 100 days. Then another 14lbs after that. Boom.

TalkinPeace · 29/08/2014 22:10

crunchies
Keep the picture
look at the pictures of eatriskier to see why

I'm BMI 21 and fat percentage 27
and I hate pictures of myself
BUT
others say I look good so I blink
when I was BMI 28 everybody agreed I looked crap

AddictedtoCrunchies · 29/08/2014 22:23

What or who is eatriskier?

TalkinPeace · 29/08/2014 22:31

eatriskier She's the opening poster in the 5:2 inspiration thread : but she's re anagreammed her name so her pics have disappeared ... will get her to get them back because 6 stone in 6 months while still being a party animal with two small kids makes her a legend

AddictedtoCrunchies · 29/08/2014 22:39

I've found dieting just unsustainable and utterly miserable. The only way I've lost weight in the past is exercise. I got good results last year getting up every morning and sprinting for as long as possible around a playing field until I was breathless and sweating. At first could only run for five or ten mins, but was doing 20 after a few weeks. I could really feel myself toning up. That was before I had my baby and now she's here I need to get back to the regime. Simple, cheap and effective. Yes, it's hard getting the motivation to get out there in the beginning, but after a few weeks you need it and feel ratty if you don't do it.

Oh god Junio, I have to exercise really?! You mean, instead of laying in bed reading mumsnet I actually have to get off my arse and do something.....just 5 more minutes really! Blush

AddictedtoCrunchies · 30/08/2014 07:40

I agree Junio. But for me the exercise has to run alongside a healthy eating campaign. Else I just think 'ooh I've run ten miles and I've earned it'.
Talkinpeace you really should change your name to Talksmuchsense. Because you do. Love the no snacking rule and going to follow that. Light breakfast, lunch and dinner. Nothing else. Thank you Thanks

IDismyname · 30/08/2014 08:05

Hello everyone
Could I join you? I will weigh myself today, fess up to you lovely vipers, then begin today as I mean to go on. Not sure what plan I'll go for. Did 5:2 for about 14 months , and felt great (I have IBS and it helped hugely) but lost nothing. Lost 2 stone years ago at WW but cannot face that kind of food any more.

I do exercise a fair bit. Walk dogs every day, Pilates x 1 a week, and dance class x 2 but it's not enough. Most is in my comfort zone so body is used to it. I'm wondering about starting running. Trouble is, my hips hurt after a few very short sessions of walk/ run and I'm not sure what's wrong.

My kitchen is coming out this week, so it's going to be a testing time. Plan to use my slow cooker to produce meals, and maybe use the microwave for some calorie controlled ones, too. I just hope the lure of a glass of wine isn't too much.

Wonder if I should just stop drinking between now and Christmas???

ImATotJeSuisUneTot · 30/08/2014 10:00

Hi, can I join you? I tried the five week LC bootcamp but didn't have much success. Think I went at it a bit Gung-ho and that isn't really sustainable. Need to see this as a change for life, not just the period of bootcamp.

Going to up my exercise, as a PP said, that works best for me. I have several distance runs and a tough mudder on the calendar for the next year, and am adding different exercises into my usual mix - self defence ju-jitsu, and bouldering, to name a couple. Boredom is bad for me, need to keep things fresh.

Tomorrow I need to be at a birthday party, so shall treat that as my final fling, before cracking on on Monday.
I'll give you a weight on Tues if that's going to be weigh in day?

I need to lose two stone so add that to the total projected loss! Grin

Justwhateverreally · 30/08/2014 10:16

Hi everyone, so great to see so many people on here!

Have managed to leave a calorie deficit each day so far, and done my 10k steps. Today is photos and measuring tape day Confused
This is the point at which my resolve usually crumbles because it feels too 'real' and like too much of a commitment (I am totally commitmentphobic).
And it's my time of the month so feeling bloaty and ick. Therefore downplaying my expectations of any loss by Tues. Still, got to keep ploughing away at i!

Ledkr · 30/08/2014 10:17

So first day of low fat yesterday and I had no symptoms at all.
We were at thoroe park so difficult but I had a chicken and quark wrap for lunch with fruit and a chicken kebab at night. That sounds dreadfull but I checked and the chicken was oven baked and no dressing on the salad and I gave the chips to dd2.
The pain is so great if I eat fat that I've got the perfect deterrent. Hopefully it will help with the weight loss.
Any low fat recipes most welcome!!

MillyMollyMandy78 · 30/08/2014 10:58

Well managed yesterday without giving in to cravings. Period started today, so pleased with that - normally i eat pretty much non stop in the days leading up to it. Had healthy breakfast today so off to a good start, but just can't bear the thought of exercise with cramps etc so not gonna be too hard on myself. I can always add in exercise gradually in the coming week or so.

Snacking on junk has always been a big problem for me, so i have stopped snacks, except for one planned snack after work each evening. When I get home i have a glass of almond milk and 2x lotus biscuits (only about 30 cals each, or 3 syns for 2 on slimming world). I really enjoy that and keeps me going until dinner time. Otherwise, nothing. Eventually I will prob stop this snack too, but for now i find it works for me.

Ledkr low fat was all the thing in the late 70s very early eighties. A typical day for me would have been:

Breakfasts

bowl of rice crispies with banana and skimmed milk
toast and jam
beans on toast
turkey rashers, dry fried egg, beans, toms, mushrooms and chunk of crusty bread
tomatoes on toast

Lunches and dinners

Jacket potato with baked beans
Toasted sandwich with a little low fat grated cheese and pineapple or beans
Soup and roll filled with salad and lean ham or grated cheese and beetroot
chicken salad
wraps with quark/very low fat philli, chilli sauce, salsa, kidney beans and salad and peppers
Any fish with corn on cob, potatoes, veg, rice
Roast chicken and veg and dry roast potatoes
Cold meats and salad, rice salad, beetroot.
Tuna salad with sweetcorn and peppers
Gammon, pineapple, fat free oven potato wedges

Stir fry veg, chicken and rice with dash of Worcester sauce

Something sweet

Low fat yoghurts
Rice pudding with skimmed milk and sugar, maple or honey
Baked apple or banana with maple syrup and low fat yoghurt or low fat custard
Fat free sponge cake with fruit and low fat custard
There are lots of low fat/fat free sponge recipes out there
fresh fruit salad

Ledkr · 30/08/2014 21:41

Thanks a lot. That's teally helpful.

MillyDots · 30/08/2014 22:09

This is nice and I still like it with just Bonne Maman strawberry jam. You can also pour fat free custard over it.

Another thing I had a lot was Spag Bol (still do) made with lean mince of course, onions, mushrooms, red wine and a bit of sugar and cooked slowly for about 4 hours served with pasta and bread with crushed garlic and herbs.

Pasta with a sauce of tinned or fresh toms, herbs, wine and bit of sugar (reduced down) is also nice.

MillyDots · 30/08/2014 22:10

I lost a lot of weight on this way of eating and did it for many many years and kept the weight off. Cant do it as much now as have a bit of IBS so cant eat a lot of pasta, carbs, bread .

Ledkr · 30/08/2014 22:16

Is a lot of bread tho. Did u really lose weight eating lots of bread?

MillyDots · 30/08/2014 22:35

Low Fat eating was based around eating high carb for energy. Low carb eating is using fats to get your energy.
You don't need to eat a lot of bread or pasta. Low fat can be totally natural where you just have natural low fat foods but being the "diet of the moment" we all embraced the high carbs after years of being told that carbs were bad for us. The atkins had been the big thing in the years before low fat. History has repeated itself there.

You could have porridge with skimmed milk and honey, maple, sugar
topped with fresh fruit

banana

homemade soup with meat and salad

Roast chicken, Jackets and veg with fat free gravy

The examples I have given before were all based on Fat Unit Counting which then went on to be fat gram counting. It worked on the principle that the less fat you ate the more your body burned fat. It worked as long as you didn't overeat.

Ledkr · 30/08/2014 22:38

I certainly think ill need to eat carbs if I'm doing low fat or I'll be starving and skint.
Felt v sick today tho but anti sickness tablet allowed me to eat some dinner or v low fat homemade curry and rice which was lovely after two days of dry toast!
Is fat free custard just made with skimmed milk?

MillyDots · 30/08/2014 23:08

Yep and sugar to taste. Birds custard.

cleanmachine · 31/08/2014 06:08

Back from my weekend away. Have to say it's all gone to pot these last few days. But I'm back and fasting today and hoping to lose some pounds.

I'm starting to waver though. Negative thoughts about not succeeding and not losing are my downfall so I'm trying to work on my positivity today. The kids go back to school soon and this too is affecting my mood. I'm always sad at the end and start of a new term and am worrying about everyone settling into their new routine. Will keep reminding myself of all the good things around me today.
