...but I don't know what.

I am sick of being on a diet, off a diet, on another diet, off that diet to, ad infinitum.

I desperately need to lose the two stone I put on while pregnant four years ago, but I can't seem to stick to anything. I am currently falling off the slimming world wagon, having previously tried most things out there - WW, low carb in various guises, hypno, cal counting...

Not sure what I hope to gain from posting this. I am just so fed up of it all and so fed up of being fat and needed somewhere to rant.

As you were.

Well done Addicted - if I had read this earlier I would have come and cheered you on!! I hope you aren't hurting too much today Flowers

LatteLoverLovesLattes · 08/09/2014 10:21

Ledkr - :( Sorry to hear it's all so bloody awful for you at the moment. When's your apt?

Krakken · 08/09/2014 10:31

Can I jump back in please? I posted earlier in the thread but I just didn't get round to sorting myself out.

I think I've found my determination now that my mum has told me I should lose some weight (she's not horrible. Just genuinely concerned)
And my 9 yr old has got a bit of a belly on him now. I know that's all from too much snacking as he's very active and I've been slack, giving in to junk food and letting the kids snack late into the evening over the holidays.

I've stopped buying junk food and have been offering fruit for snacks. No snacks after dinner for anyone.

I'm hoping this works for us.

MillyDots · 08/09/2014 10:43

What did you eat this weekend Ledkr?

Ledkr · 08/09/2014 13:04

Nothing on sat because we were at a street fair and everything was too yummy for me.
I took dd for a treat to chiquitos and chose as widely as possible chicken wrap no cheese sour cream or guacamole, swapped chips for plain rice, I guess it could have been that!! Just shows how hidden fats are there.
Still not as skinny as I should be after the lSt few weeks tho!!

AddictedtoCrunchies · 08/09/2014 15:19

I'm sorry you're feeling ropey Ledkr and welcome back Krakken.
Latte no snacking follows Talk's rules so can only be a good thing.
I feel ok today although my knees are crunching well. Quite excited for tomorrow's weigh in - I have eaten really well this week so deserve a loss.
I know I'll be motivated if I get a good loss and then I'll be off and running. Hopefully I will have a good result in the morning.
Where is everyone anyway, this thread is my confessional - I NEED you all!! Thanks

starsinthenight · 08/09/2014 17:01

Addicted - AMAZING run - well done you! Too right you should be excited for tomorrow's WI. I will listen out for the whoop.

Ledkr - hope you feel better soon.

I'm here - but have been hiding Blush as the whole weekend seemed to revolve around food... Went to BBQ Sat. I was going to drive (so as not to drink) but DS 9 threw an epic tantrum (again) just as we were leaving - so I arrived there with a thirst. Plus a real treat to have food prepared & cooked for me so I had 2nds... Yesterday heeded Talk's advice about skipping a meal - no breckie, but I did then indulge in Roast beef & all the trimmings, as had family over. I wasn't going to pass-up on all my hard work! Then had to catch up on work yesterday eve (still behind from school hols - I work from home) so consoled myself with Strictly, The Village, and 1/2 bottle Sauvingon blanc.

Confession over. Today has been OK - water, veg juice & veg soup (not as nice as yours Radio I'm sure!). Maybe salmon & salad for dinner.

I'll take WI tmw morning on the chin... just deserts & all that!

TalkinPeace · 08/09/2014 17:24

Krakken
Well done on joining the NO SNACKING crew - it will be good for all of you to get out of the habit.

Ledkr
Sorry you ate something that disagreed with you : it will take time to work out what works with your innards.

I'm fasting properly today (no food since 4pm yesterday) - looking forward to veg soup for supper.

cleanmachine · 08/09/2014 18:02

Get well soon ledkr.

I had a triple carb fest on Saturday. Leftover pasta for dinner with chips and garlic bread! Me and do looked at each other wide eyed but neither of us could be bothered cooking and we needed to use up fridge food. Had a good day yest and couldn't face any more carbs. Today I've fasted and I'm hoping for a loss to report tomorrow but it's tom and I'm bloated. Good luck everyone!

Krakken · 08/09/2014 18:42

The kids still need an after school snack so today I made some very worthy flapjacks with mixed dried fruit and seeds. they had a piece of that with half a banana and are now playing in the garden.
Dinner is a lasagna but I put loads of chopped veg in with the mince and the white sauce, which only goes in top, is a yoghurt, feta and nutmeg concoction.

I'm really trying to change my family's diet. Any tips would be helpful!

TalkinPeace · 08/09/2014 18:54

krakken
tbh the best possible thing is to actually think about the ingredients
so avoiding over processed stuff that is full of hidden fat and salt and sugar

fat is good for you - its essential for children's growth
intrinsic sugar is not much of a hassle (in fruit and the like)

its about trying to eat real food rather than packet stuff
home made flapjacks sound lush

Krakken · 08/09/2014 19:28

Thanks Talkin. I'm trying to get ds to lose some weight without feeling deprived and without going too strict with him.
I know it's going to take a while but I've told everyone that we re going to be healthier and that means no snacking after dinner.
I feel bad for him because he keeps asking for food and I keep saying no.
I just say 'it's not healthy to eat too much of that'
He wanted another piece of flapjack, another helping of lasagne even though his serving was a good size. I gave him some tinned mandarins (in juice) with a small scoop of good quality ice cream for desert and he asked for more of that too. When I just checked with him, he said he's not hungry.

For snacks at home and packed lunches, I went to holland and Barrett and bought some yoghurt and choc coated raisins, some sesame sticks and dried fruit. I plan on baking biscuits and cakes at home and making sure that they all contain something wholesome like carrots or fruit for cake.

I can't believe how terrible our diet had become.

TalkinPeace · 08/09/2014 20:11

Krakken
yoghurt and choc coated raisins are sugar laden calorific bombs - read the ingredient list
you need to reduce the sugar and up the fat and protein :

a chunk of cheese and an apple is a good snack
a hard boiled egg is a good snack
carrots and hummus are a good snack

water with meals

but you need to be really careful not to have too much sugar : it is the one food group that none of us actually need
see if you can manage three days a week with no added sugar in your diets

protein fills you up
sugar makes you hungry

and anything in a packet : read the ingredients list - if there are more than ten, put it back on the shelf

kaylacrackers · 08/09/2014 20:56

Another successful fast day complete! Very happy! Lunch ready for tomorrow as well. Good luck with WI tomorrow everyone. Hope everyone has done well!

JeniJones · 08/09/2014 21:15

Ah now, you see I don't agree with all this talk of "good" and "bad" food. It tends to make people feel guilty about what they are eating and then they end up bingeing and the whole cycle of diet and binge starts again and before you know it you are back to square one.
I brought my children up to listen to their bodies and eat when they are truly hungry and stop when satisfied.

If I want some chocolate or cake or yoghurt raisins then I will have them but only a few. If I deny myself then I will end up overeating something else to compensate for not having what I really wanted in the first place.

I don't think this thread is for me as its starting to feel too much like being told what you can and cant eat and what is good and not good for you. As for eating only two meals in a day, well Im afraid that would bring on a migraine attack for me and also I would be bloody well hungry. I appreciate that some people like these rules and fasting but its not for me.
I have lost a couple of pounds this week by eating whatever I wanted when I was hungry and stopping as soon as I had had enough. Lots of lovely food full of fruit veg protein fats etc but also a biscuit or chocolate or bit of homemade cake and eating whenever my body was hungry.

I wish you all the best of luck Smile

TalkinPeace · 08/09/2014 21:35

I have lost a couple of pounds this week by eating whatever I wanted when I was hungry and stopping as soon as I had had enough.
Perfect. The ideal.

Ledkr · 08/09/2014 21:44

I think that's the ideal yes but many people aren't capable of that.
I have trouble regulating myself and so I'm better going for healthy stuff rather than sweets and stuff if scoff too much of.
That's why I'm doing well with such big restrictions cos I can eat plenty but only of low fat food.
Tonight I had turkey breast, mustard mash carrots and cabbage. I nearly had veg gravy but realised it was really high in fat compared to just 0.5 grammes in chicken gravy!

Krakken · 08/09/2014 21:51

I know what you mean about sugar but like I said, I didn't want ds to feel deprived so I've switched to the raisins instead of a biscuit or chocolate bar. They'll only have a few. We never buy sugary cereals and have juice very rarely so I don't think a few yoghurt covered raisins are too bad.
The only sugary thing we ve had today is fruit, bit of flapjack and tblsp of ice cream.
I don't think that's too bad.

Personally, I don't care for sugar. My problem is cheese, bread, crisps and nuts! I just can't seem to eat those things in small amounts.

Krakken · 08/09/2014 21:52

Oh and Restricting myself to two meals a day really works for me.

AddictedtoCrunchies · 08/09/2014 22:08

I think we all have to do what works for us, taking or leaving advice as necessary. I don't have an off switch so mindful eating isn't for me at the moment which is why WW works for me.
But equally Talks two meals a day thing is working cos a banana for brekkie means more points for the rest of the day.
Today I had a banana about 9am, two thins with ham and salad, Quavers, nectarine and satsumas about 12.30 and chicken salad about 6. Good protein for muscle repair after yesterday. Smile

I've lost 6lb this week! Phase 1 of the Harcombe has done the trick! Very pleased - especially as I went to a 40th at the weekend.

I've updated the spreadsheet. Good luck everyone who is weighing in today.

HaroldCopter · 09/09/2014 07:07

Good morning everyone, just a quick update with my WI. I haven't lost anything this week, am still at 12st 5. Please could somebody update the spreadsheet for me (on my phone). Mint, I think I'm you: I also have a great start to the week and then just undo it in one fell swoop - I was hovering between 12st 2 and 12st 3 end of last week, but am back up to 12st 5 today! I know the culprits: too much wine and being a little too relaxed (aka stuffing myself with tapas) at tje weekend.

Ah well, it's a new week again today and the scales WILL go down next Tuesday. Going to be super strict with the two meals a day, swap my morning skinny latte for tea and keep up the exercise. On that front I do feel slimmer and less bloated, even if the scales don't show it: I put on a skirt for work this morning that I havent worn for a few weeks because it was starting to feel a bit tight (it's my fat skirt, too) and it's definitely looser, so I'm hoping that's a small sign of progress. Onwards and upwards!! Good luck with the WI today everyone.

HaroldCopter · 09/09/2014 07:10

Oh, and can I be the first to congratulate you antarctic? Well done, that's a fabulous loss Thanks

kaylacrackers · 09/09/2014 07:13

I weigh 14st 9lbs which I think is 1 lb less than last week. Can't seem to locate the spreadsheet to update? Must my be phone being stupid.

I like the fact that everyone is doing their own thing. I choose to do 5:2 because it suits me but besides that I'm finding my feet as to what works best for me. I like the variety of seeing how others are succeeding and it helps me, but I don't religiously follow anyone else's advice etc. I also refuse to do anything extreme as I want this to be a long term thing, not just a quick fix. I have more than 2 stone to lose and the 2 stone by Christmas was my first goal but if I don't make it, I would like to lose a minimum of a stone. I'm in this for the long haul. Thank you everyone for your support, this thread really helps me. I've been lurking on the 5:2 thread as well but I like that this one gives different perspectives too.

Good luck to everyone weighing in today.
