Shall we spend the summer holidays losing a stone?

ReigningQueen · 14/07/2014 19:28

That's my aim.
The summer holidays should make it easier for me to lose weight as we spend so much time out and about.

Here are my ideas :-

Maximum 1400 cals a day although I'll try to stick to 1200 most days.

Switch to warburton slims instead of bread and one allowed a day. This will be mostly used for my sandwich for lunch. Easy for picnics too.

Have fruit for snacks and 1 treat a day

Treats are either an ice lolly if we're out or a small piece of home made cake or biscuits or popcorn if we're having a movie night. I'll bake with the kids as an activity.

Lots of salad and veg. Luckily I love salads.

30 minutes minimum of activity a day. Exercise dvd, walking, playing with the kids outside. Wii Just Dance (from youtube), pillow fight, disco if the weather is rubbish

That sounds pretty doable. Anyone else? :)

You can do it LaChatte. I had 2 brown rice thins with nut butter for breakfast and am now at pizza express but have ordered a legerra pizza... We are moving house on Wednesday so it is probably a bad week to start as we will be surviving on meals out and take away. Trouble there is always a reason not to start so I am just going to tough it out!
Good luck today everyone.

LaChatte · 21/07/2014 14:21

To help motivate myself I've just weighed in for the first time in a week, I've lost one kilo Grin , so screw you peanut butter cups!

ReigningQueen · 21/07/2014 14:40

Lachatte you can incorporate one treat a day into your diet. It can be a little treat at the end of the day. I find if I try to deny myself totally then I end up bingeing but I stay in control if I allow myself something small.
Well done on losing a kilo!

The scales also work out your fat and muscle weight, apparently I have 34% fat! whereas it's supposed to be between 21 and 24%, with a maximum of 31% being tolerable Sad

5madthings · 21/07/2014 17:20

I have a toddler who still sleeps in our bed, hethese hot nights are not good. Have done eight miles on my bike on School run today. Hoping yo go for a run or do a cardio box DVD later. Food ok today. Had a mozzarella and tomato roll for bfast/lunch and having tuna pasta for dinner.

5madthings · 21/07/2014 17:21

A kg is great weight loss!

And yes yo allowing treats have had some maltesers today, if I deny myself I just binge bit a small treat is ok.

Donthackmenow · 21/07/2014 21:41

So cross with myself. Had an okay day foodwise but have just scoffed 2 packets of crisps. Why did I do that? Grrrr!

ReigningQueen · 21/07/2014 23:19

Donthackmenow that is annoying. I do that from time to time but recently I read on a weight loss thread that every time you stop yourself from reaching out for that pack of crisps or that biscuit, is a step closer to achieving your goal. It's been helping me to think in terms of my goal rather than short term satisfaction.
I also enjoy the feeling of going to bed pleased that I've stuck to my plan on a good day rather than going to bed annoyed with myself that I've spent another day hindering my progress.

I've struggled today. I've kept to it but it's been really hard today. I've so nearly had just a couple of the kids sweets, the smell of fresh cookies, but I treated myself to an apple.

I'm trying to shift my meals to a more normal time of day.

Tomorrow is another day, donthackmenow, you won't lapse tomorrow.

Finola1step · 22/07/2014 06:39

Well here goes. First weigh in. 12st 4lbs. Bugger!

Last day at work today. Ds finishes school tomorrow. This weight has just got to shift and I know the truth. Eat less crap and exercise more. Wish me luck.

hopelessadventure · 22/07/2014 06:44

Can I join this thread? I've only just seen it but had already mentally set myself a target of losing a stone before September. I had already lost 5 stone since Easter last year but need to lost another 5 in total Hmm I'm trying to do it in small chunks.

I'm trying to way sensibly and have also started doing couch to 25k which at 15 stone is painful. I did a 5k race for life on Sunday though and felt so proud of myself (walked most of it).

hopelessadventure · 22/07/2014 06:44

*eat sensibly that should say Smile

sassytheFIRST · 22/07/2014 06:49

This sounds like something I should join....

We have 2 weeks away planned but the rest of the time I want to eat two meals, plus fruit. The hardest thing will be avoiding snacking cos I do eat when bored. Planning to run daily too - most days this will be just a quick 20 mins down the hill and back up again, with 5-10k twice a week when I can.

I'm 11st8, 5ft7. Heaviest I've ever been and creeping up by a couple of lbs a year.

dementedma · 22/07/2014 17:23

finola I weighed in at 12 stone 4 three weeks ago.
Today, 11 stone 9.
Low carbing

jerin · 22/07/2014 19:18

Welcome hopelessadventure and sassy.

Well done dementedma that's excellent. And very well done hopeless adventure on your weight kiss do far and the 5k.

I'm going to weigh myself tomorrow morning. Last Monday I weighed 10st 12 which is the heaviest I ever been. (Possibly weighed more when pregnant with twins but couldn't see scales!)
I have a difficult few days ahead where I will be eating out and so I'm hoping I can stay strong. Fingers crossed I'll have lost a bit which will motivate me to keep at it.

hamptoncourt · 22/07/2014 20:09

Please may I join?

I am a similar size to donthackme as am 5 ft 5ins and was 11 stone 4 6 days ago when I last weighed myself.

I am six days in on Paul Mckenna. I have yo yo dieted for 30 odd years and have completed messed up my metabolism. Now am going through menopause so I found I couldn't just lose the weight by cutting back like I used to Sad

Paul McK going really well. I love listening to the cd every day.

Not drinking alcohol is the hardest part, but I can drink when I am past the first month I think.

I would like to lose at least a stone by the end of the summer - there's a good chance I will be running into an ex at a work event so I don't want to look bigger than he remembers me Blush

I am not allowed to weigh myself for another week but will report in.

I like Queens idea of hanging up something I would like to fit back into. I have clothes from size 8 to 16 in my wardrobe, that is how much I fluctuate!!

LaChatte · 22/07/2014 20:50

I'm not counting the calories anymore, but trying to follow a diet full of "fat eating" foods (Aubergines, peppers, grapefruit, stuff), minimal sugar, fat free dairy, wholewheat things, beans and pulses, lean meat, fish, green tea etc.

Snacks consist of cardboard ryvita and marmite and tea (skimmed milk, no sugar).

The peanut butter cups are still sealed in their packet.

Oh and lots of water. Mmm, water, mmm, yum Hmm

inadaydream · 22/07/2014 21:36

Hi please can I join too?

Hubby came home from work this eve with an invitation to a very posh do and I could cry! Still carrying the 3 stone I gained from my last pregnancy, baby turns one this weekend!!

I can't 'diet' as such - I am one of those lucky ones with a hubby who loves to cook! He cooks from scratch so all healthy it's the biscuits cakes and crisps I eat when he is at work that's the problem! To be fair I haven't gained any weight I have just failed to lose the baby weight this time.

So I want to give up the rubbish food, try to eat better, drink more water and exercise more.

The 'do' is mid October so my aim is just to lose as much as I can before then. A stone before September though is something good to work towards.

Donthackmenow · 22/07/2014 22:07

Evening. I have done okay today, been too busy packing to snack! inadaydream I find having an event quite helpful as motivation. At the moment my sister is being really
Successful on SW (I have only ever put on weight doing SW) and it making me feel competitive, we also have a wedding to go to soon and I am fed up of feeling miserable when I catch a glance of myself.
hamptoncourt I find it quite a difficult size to be because I
am not obese (normally fit into a 12/14) but for my frame I think I look really unattractive - double chin, very wobbly, tonnes of cellulite- but in the right clothes I can look ok, I just don't have many good clothes because I refuse to buy new ones until I have lost weight (my youngest child is 18 months, I really should have succeeded by now...Sad.

Donthackmenow · 22/07/2014 22:08

Sorry for typos/grammatical errors I am on my phone.

jerin · 22/07/2014 22:59

Oh donthackmenow I'm exactly the same. Size 12-14, mostly 14 verging on 16 some days. I refuse now to buy more clothes. I want to buy thin clothes. I wobble all over, my thighs are huge, my bum is massive and ivd got bingo wings. Sob.
Only my youngest are 5!!
We are planning a holiday next year it would be amazing to feel that I didn't have to cover up every part of me!

5madthings · 23/07/2014 14:18

I am a 12 at moment and my youngest is three, this time last year o was 10lb lighter having trained to run a 10k. I am running again now and so the weight is coming off. Another lb this week so 7 in total.

Another have a stone and then I get down to the stubborn 5-7lbs...

Anyway good day so far food wise and have cycled six miles and swam 80 lengths, apparently that's about 500-600 calories.

Planning to run tomorrow and then am away from Fri-Sun so will have to try and be good and see about fitting a run in, I will be doing lots of walking etc though over the weekend even if I don't run.

ReigningQueen · 23/07/2014 16:33

I've not been doing too badly though I did end up having tortilla chips and salsa for lunch. I'll have a light dinner of salad with a tandoori chicken thigh.

Welcome to all the newbies. Let's stick to this. Ignore an urge for taste which will only last for a few seconds (ie eating crap) in order to look great in 6 weeks time.

OP posts:
hamptoncourt · 23/07/2014 18:15

yes I am just the same, size 12/14. I think I look OK.......................

until I see a photo of myself. Then I just want to dissolve in tears.

jerin · 23/07/2014 21:44

I'm feeling really bloated tonight and haven't had enough water today.

I weighed myself first thing and was pleased to be 10st 8 which is 4lb off! Then even more pleased when I realised that I started last Thursday not Wednesday so really I was weighing a day early. Just gotta keep it up but was so nearly tempted by the children's toffee fudge ice cream earlier.
