Paul McKenna's 'I Can Make You Thin' Thread #15...The New Beginning!

Welcome to thread #15 of the Paul McKenna's I Can Make You Thin weight loss system.

The Golden Rules that will aid you on your journey with our like minded friendly support system are:

  1. Eat what you WANT
  2. Eat when you are HUNGRY
  3. Eat CONSCIOUSLY
  4. STOP eating when you are satisfied and full

HELPFUL TIPS!
Lots of chewing; at least 20 chews per mouthful.

Ask yourself "am I really hungry?" Listen for your 'full signal' and leave at least a mouthful on your plate at every meal. Eat your favourite thing from your plate first so that if you get to the full signal, but have your favourite food still sitting there, you aren't going to 'make room' for it because you love it, it will have already gone.

Admire something about yourself every day in the mirror.
Try to move more; dance around the living room or walk to school...use the stairs...small things, but good things!

This weight loss system is about re-educating your body; learning to listen to it and in doing so losing weight and inches. After all, eating a meal is not a competition, it's about enjoying what you are putting into your mouth and body, but not feeling bloated and uncomfortable (or guilty) afterwards!
Many people have issues around food. Many of us have been brought up by the 'clear your plate' parents of yesteryear which leave us feeling guilty if we leave even the smallest morsel of food, but we are working through this guilt or any other hang up we may have, and we are learning to leave a bit on the plate; return to it another time if we really want to or even feed it to the dog or the bin!
So!! forget diets; they may work for a while, but they aren't permanent solutions. This is a new way of living for your brand new life!! Let's get lighter for those summer outfits!!

The Paul McKenna system really works and is easy to maintain.

I've C&P'd our previous threads links as they are helpful.

Here are the book choices on AMAZON which is all you need to get started! they aren't compulsory, but they do help! it's something to refer to and listening to the cd's can really focus you.

This is the tapping technique EXPLAINED - this can be useful to combat cravings.

You don't have to buy the book and CD, but we have found that they do help and somehow they keep you on track, so it would probably be a good investment and will cost you far less than a couple of trips to WW or SW meetings, so do consider having them in your life.

Please feel free to join us, whether it's 10lbs or 10 stones you want to lose.
We are friendly, supportive and successful, but we're not hungry and that is a great way to feel when you are dropping dress sizes at the same time!!! so come on in and start living your new life today and make 2014 your year to drop a dress size or several...if we can get those lbs off a few at a time, just think how we could look and feel for the sunny summer time!!!
Some of our thread members are also doing PMK's Virtual Gastric Band and although this thread is not about this avenue, we will still be supportive of our friends partaking of this, so don't think we won't be there for you. I'm pretty sure that the Golden Rules will be just as helpful in this process as the I Can Make You Thin process Smile so get stuck in Smile

Here is a link to From Emotional Eating which may give some insight into why we do this and help us beat it.

Ps. Could we all try to sign in at least every few days so that someone is there? We have established that it's no fun talking to ourselves and also that if there is a new joiner, it's good to say 'hello and welcome' to them too.

Ok! Let's Focus and See Ourselves wearing that body we desire! learning to love ourselves is an important daily step, so let's become LOSERS in order to be WINNERS!!! :)

Good god!! People will lose weight just juicing (lots of weeing and excessive pooing involved Blush) but they will put it back on as soon as they start eating normally again. Same with all diets. You can lose weight if you only eat one meal a day. You can lose weight if you starve yourself etc BUT you will put it back on when you can no longer mentally and physically deprive yourself of "normal" food. If there is one thing that is obvious from reading about mindful eating (no matter what book) it is that diets just do not work. If they did no one would be ever going on another one in their entire life. There would be no need. If the diet worked you would lose the weight and it would stay off.

ALittleFaith · 10/06/2014 18:35

Thing with juice plus is not only is it shakes but it's a dairy free, gluten free meal at tea time. No wonder they lose weight! JDD that sounds miserable! I was talking to DH about how running gets me slim and healthy and asked him to push me to go more....he signed me up for a half marathon in October!!! Shock that'll luck start me running!

Bindibach · 10/06/2014 19:08

Wow...sounds like a challenge Faith. I used to love running but wish I had been warned about the impact on the body.

Bindibach · 10/06/2014 19:29

Sorry obviously not everybodies body's do get affected by running of course.

TooBigNow · 10/06/2014 21:10

Juice plus is a bit like a pyramid selling thing from what I can see.

Bindibach I agree about the monthly thing. I weighed myself again today and it's gone plus another pound.

Bindibach · 10/06/2014 21:21

Yay!!!! O I am so pleased Tooand well done on the pound too. Slowly is the best way without any agenda then there is no pressure on you. When we start thinking and planning to have lost so much by such a date, we put unnecessary pressure on ourselves. Just let it keep coming off slowly. You are doing brilliantly. My inspiration. I am now doing so much better since you posted. Thanks.

TooBigNow · 10/06/2014 22:57

What a lovely thing to say Bindibach!!!

Before finding MN I didn't know anything about PMcK and his books.
Found it by reading the threads in this forum.
Very glad I did.

I did pig out a bit this evening with a bowl of cherries and strawberries!Grin
Every last one was delicious.Grin

Bindibach · 10/06/2014 23:52

I have a new favourite desert...well two actually.

the first one is chopped bananas and chopped grapes put on a pretty green plate then into the freezer to freeze. I then eat them, but usually only need a couple of pieces. They are amazing. The frozen banana tastes like banana icecream and the grapes like little sweeties. Definitely satisfies.

The other is...I melt some darker milk chocolate and then I dip British strawberries into the chocolate and let the chocolate cool and then eat. OMG they are like the most delicious amazing luscious treat.

Solo · 11/06/2014 00:29

Hello ladies. I am still here, but am fighting with feeling ill (still!!), so I'm not actively Pauling atm. I will dip in and out, but I feel awful, so not properly participating.
You all sound very good! keep at it.

In the words of Arnie... "I'll be back!!"

OP posts:
TooBigNow · 11/06/2014 08:29

Bindibach that does sound delicious. Unfortunately I can't eat bananas as they make me ill.

Sorry to hear you are not well, Solo.
I'm a bit confused by you saying that you're not actively Pauling at the moment.
Isn't the whole point of it that you change the way you eat totally and permanently.
Otherwise all we do is go back to our diet and binge way again. Confused

Bindibach · 11/06/2014 12:28

Solo sorry your still feeling sick. I have to agree with Too though. Mindful eating is a forever thing isn't it? To go on it and off it is diet mentality. To lose weight we have to actually do mindful eating otherwise we will still be in the same place a year from now and the year after. People who have successfully lost weight with this and kept it off do this every time they eat, with every mouthful of food.

ALittleFaith · 11/06/2014 22:36

Actually I disagree. I think what solo is saying is she feels really ill and whilst she wants to do the conscious eating, it takes a lot of effort to keep that focus which is tough when you're ill. I couldn't keep it up when I was ill two years ago (not sure many of you were around but solo and BBB will remember. I'm sure solo is trying but can't be totally focused at present.

I went out for a run tonight. Planned to do 5k but my phone was on pause so my total was wrong. Checked it when I got home, did 7k! Really pleased and resisted chocolate because I wasn't hungry and just wanted the sugar hit Grin

TooBigNow · 11/06/2014 23:16

I'm genuinely interested. Does mindful eating not become automatic after you have been doing it for a long period of time? I've only been doing it since the beginning of April and still need to focus on eating slowly otherwise I do speed up and eat too fast.

Igggi · 11/06/2014 23:24

It can become automatic but you can override it for some other purpose I suppose - so if your brain needs to help you through a very stressful time or an illness it can do it that way. Ideally it wouldn't be through food, but we are people not perfect specimens!

Solo · 11/06/2014 23:57

Faith you have it in one. I am feeling really unwell and my concentration is nil. Hopefully my scan results will be back soon and I'll know (or not) what's causing it.

OP posts:
Bindibach · 12/06/2014 00:20

I have been doing this for well over ten years now and on this thread for over two years. I have met people on other threads that do PM and are successful and have lost their weight and kept it off and they have consistently done this way of eating and would not go back to not doing it so it can be done TooBig. I appreciate that when you feel ill that what you eat can go out the window and it must be awful for Solo to feel so sickly. I really hope that you get it sorted Solo.

People on the thread do seem to want to be successful with this woe on the whole but sometimes seem to be unable to get in the frame of mind to succeed and there are often excuses as to why they cant do it. I guess its down to each of us to make it work for ourselves.

Well done Faith on the run.

Igggi · 12/06/2014 07:18

You are very right about the frame of mind thing. I woke up yesterday and just felt "right" and so didn't overeat. Many days I seem to be stuck in self-sabotage mode - to the point that refuse even to listen to Paul's cd on that very topic! It's like I want to change and yet I don't. Or i know I'll fail anyway so why bother.

TooBigNow · 12/06/2014 08:06

Sending prayers your way Solo.

I'm glad to hear it Bindibach as it was a bit depressing that we could revert back to diet mode again.

Igggi if you still feel like you are in self-sabotage mode, then the track hasn't worked for you yet.
When I did it the first time, I got a very clear message on something that linked back to my teenage years.
The second time I did it, was the same but a different event.
I have done it a few times since and not got a clear message.
The last time I did it, I used a general feeling of I can't do it with the opposite of successfully doing it and felt good afterwards.
Self sabotage has been something that has stalked me all my life and I was never able to deal with it before.
It has been a bit like a revelation to me that I can pin it down to things I thought were over and forgotten and now deal with the emotions.

I have also been doing some of his other CD's which I think are probably helping me to be more positive.

Bindibach · 12/06/2014 11:03

Igggi glad that you feel back on track. TooBig ...you have lost a lot since you started and are doing really well. I have also lost and then maintained and am now starting to go down again. Sometimes people do seem to self sabotage again and again and this prevents them losing weight and actually regain some or all of the weight they have lost and never seem to make any headway. I think it depends upon how committed you are mentally to losing the weight that is holding you back from being where you want to be. It is a for life thing and it is natural for me now. My only self sabotage is IF I start being down on myself then that could cause me to overeat if I don't stop it in its tracks. The CDs are like a friend cheering you on and making you feel good about yourself. They are positivity and that is what we need. We have spent so long being down on ourselves and believing that we can't lose weight that it becomes our default mode. This mindful eating and the CDs work but you have to be committed to spending time on yourself to listen, read and then actually listen to what your body is telling you. That takes effort and practice and patience. None of the CDs are a magic bullet though. they just help you to help yourself. Some people seem to think that maybe his latest cd will be THE ONE....( whichever cd it is) but ultimately it is about "you" and actually actively doing this for you.

TooBigNow · 14/06/2014 11:47

I did the gastric band last night. Decided to do it once I was in bed so that I wouldn't be disturbed as DH had gone to sleep. Managed to hear about the first ten minutes before falling asleep. Not noticed it yet, but I only had a piece of toast this morning. We're off out to visit some friends later, so will see what happens when we're eating!

If you've done the gastric band, did you notice the difference?

Bindibach · 14/06/2014 14:42

I do the band too about once a week and find it really makes me aware of when I am " satisfied".Smile

footballmum · 14/06/2014 21:49

Hi there. Can I join you? I'm 42 years old, 5'3" and 12 stone. I really need to lose about 2.5 stones. I've tried everything from WW, to SW. Most recently I've been doing the 5:2 with some success but a week's holiday and a couple of stressful weeks at work and I've regained everything I'd lost (about 10lbs).

I'm so sick of dieting. All I do is think about food, count food, plan meals and work out what I can and can't eat. It's exhausting and soul destroying and I now realise I've developed a really unhealthy relationship with food. I eat really healthily whilst I'm at work and my mind is fully occupied but as soon as I'm back home, either on an evening or weekend, I do nothing but pick, pick, pick! I'm so frustrated with myself because I know I'm undoing all my good work but I can't seem to stop myself Angry

To try and get to the bottom of it, I've been doing ICMYT and it has definitely helped and controlled some of the cravings but I still didn't feel like I was identifying what my triggers are. So today I've downloaded the iBook of FEE. I've just watched the havening video and have read the first chapter of the book so fingers crossed I'll start to make sense of some of my issues!

One question though, I can't work out what "emotion" I'm feeling when I'm overeating! There's definitely an element of stress and boredom but half the time I just unconsciously eat without feeling anything at all! Is that common? Did the program help you identify your emotions and triggers or do you have to have a more defined level of self awareness to start with?

I haven't listened to the self sabotage audio yet but also suspect that is a big issue with me.

Anyway, thanks for reading and any tips or advice would be welcome Smile

Bindibach · 15/06/2014 09:11

Hi Footballmum and Welcome Grin. Diets just mess you up don't they. This mindful way of eating is an eye opener. To be able to eat any food you want without overeating it is " freedom". I think identifying what your emotions are when overeating takes time. Sometimes it feels like we just zone out. The longer you do this enables you to understand more about your triggers and past patterns with how you " use " food.

TooBigNow · 15/06/2014 15:04

Hi Footballmum welcome to the thread. Smile

I am a definite convert to the PMcK books. I started with the Emotional Eating one and was delighted with the results. I no longer want to binge eat which is amazing. You do need to actively do the Havening DVD for at least a week and also listen to the CD. I did the while you're eating track with every meal to start with and now with some meals. It does help slow you down. The self destruct track is also very good. I have done that several times. The trance one I have done lots of times.

Emotional balancing is a bit harder to do, but worth it if you keep doing it.

With the Havening and the Self Destruct, you don't have to pin it to something accurately if it doesn't come to you automatically. With the Havening I concentrated on the physical feeling that I get when I want to go and eat and am not actually hungry rather than the emotion. One of the ways with me is for a tingling across my tongue. You will probably have different physical feelings. When I concentrated on those it worked for me.

Good luck with it!! I've now lost 22 lb since the beginning of April.

JDD · 15/06/2014 20:19

Can I just say, something amazing has happened. I just ate 4 squares if chocolate....... and then stopped. Usually as soon as I taste chocolate it opens floodgates and turns into a binge. Just eating a little but is a first for me. Feels like a bit of a breakthrough.

I think it takes a while to get to the bottom of the emotional reasons for eating. You just have to stop and think every time, why am I doing this? How am I feeling?

I'm pretty pleased with how I'm doing. It's been 5 or 6 weeks now and I'm eating slower, stopping sooner and snacking less. I also haven't had a proper binge. Sometimes I eat when I'm not genuinely hungry but I still ask myself why I'm doing it. I think it really helps to understand the triggers.

I feel like its a case of practice makes perfect. I'm getting better at following the rules and feeling more and more relaxed about food which is empowering.
