Ooh I have several sugar and flour free protein cake recipes which are really nice. I'm a bit worried that I am not eating enough calories at the moment because I have completely cut the sugar/processed food out, I do have a fair bit of weight to shift but I am averaging between 1100 and 1400 calories per day, with quite heavy weights based gym sessions three times a week currently, hoping to up it five in a couple of weeks.

I'm not specifically eating low fat, but my diet is a lot of chicken, fish, tuna, fruit and veg with some porridge, wholemeal pittas and brown rice for carbs so I suppose it is low fat too.

Any suggestions?

SOS moment today. A colleague chucked at me a dark chocolate kit kit 70% coca. I soooo enjoyed it but didn't crave anything else and been very good since. Still feeling really good and clean inside !

rhonda can I suggest full fat yoghurt. Lidil do an amazing 1kg tub of Greek natural yoghurt for £1.50 and it's delicious.

Also almonds in porridge are very good too and will give you a calorie boost.

RhondaJean · 04/02/2014 23:09

The problem is I'm not really hungry and I seem to be eating forever - a bowl of salad and one of fruit salad at lunch with s wholemeal pitta bread and some prawns comes in at under 400 calories but takes forever to et through.

I will add almonds in, I always have some on my desk for emergencies, Greek yoghurt is a great source of protein so as I up my weights and times a week I will add more of that too.

I honestly wouldn't thank you for a choc chip cookie ATM! 9 days in. But we are away for DHs birthday Sunday/ Monday so 3 meals out and some cocktails and wine, I wonder if next Tuesday it will feel like starting over again?

HearMyRoar · 05/02/2014 12:57

By a wonderful coincidence once my online food order arrives this evening I will have all the ingredients to make that cake. Yay! Yummy sugar-free cake coming up :o

zesty I absolutely agree about the eating more to stop you gorging on the sugar stuff. Breakfast is essential. I also endorse aiming to eat about every 2 hours (quite a few of the blogs suggest this), even if its just a few nuts or something. If I don't then I end up crashing and any biscuits in the vicinity start shouting out to me in the most alluring fashion.

I have also learnt the lesson to always take loads of sugar free food with me where ever I go no matter what. I went to a conference a few weeks ago and didn't take much food as they promised lunch. Lunch turned out to be a ham and pickle sandwich on white bread, crisps and cake. Then got stuck on a delayed train all the way home starving. I was kicking myself for being such an idiot and now carry food with me at all times.

BerylsDailyKumquat · 05/02/2014 14:35

I really want to join in with you all, but every day I seem to put it off. I start with a healthy breakfast, but then I'm out and about for hours and just grab a convenient sweet thing to keep me going!! I must try harder...I am getting better at actually making time for proper meals rather than just snacking though.

SomewhatSilly · 05/02/2014 16:06

Argh, I'm finding it really tough right now. Had another stressful day and just want to cram my face with sugar!

OP posts:
Dosey · 05/02/2014 16:32

somewhat don't do it it won't make your day any easier.

That said, I have just been to a funeral and the wake was cream tea, what can a girl do when faced daily with SOS. I had a cream scone and full fat coke Blush. I am still proud to be home and not wanting to scoff every grain of sugar in the house.

Right tomorrow I will avoid all SOS situations!

RhondaJean · 05/02/2014 17:09

WEll I have been on an all day training course which started with huge gooey chocolate cookies just baked and thn moved onto just baked huge empire biscuits and cocoa things with icing as well as bowl fills of sweets on the table and I didn't touch any.

I ate a banana instead

They actually smelled really sugary, it didn't appeal. I'm premenstrual as well so if I have managed 10 days now with no processed sugar I can do this forever if I want to!

SomewhatSilly · 05/02/2014 20:37

Well done Rhonda! That is some willpower you have there.

I have eaten the last slice of sugar free cake and then polished off half a boursin with oat cakes, but I did not have the chocolate I was suddenly craving. It's so obviously psychological cravings I'm having, but they feel just as real as physiological ones, argh!

On a more exciting note, my new toy kitchen appliance arrived today, a nutribullet. I decided that I need to increase the green veg and good fats in my diet so it's perfect. Made a smoothie with kale, avocado, banana, pear, yogurt and coconut oil earlier and it was surprisingly tasty!

Oh havens

HearMyRoar · 05/02/2014 21:19

I seem to have posted rather early in a moment of ecstatic rapture. somewhat the cake is amazing, and was really easy to make. Even dh loved it! :o

SomewhatSilly · 05/02/2014 21:31

I KNOW, it's amazing isn't it!

Loving, "Oh havens" as an exclamation of ecstasy. Sounds lovely and quaint :o.

It was supposed to be 'heavens' but stupid autocorrect had other ideas Hmm

Dosey · 06/02/2014 18:08

Well despite locking my car keys and the dog in the car, waiting 45 minutes in the freezing cold for the recovery van. I have not touched a grain of sugar. I even had friends over coffee and opened a box of Christmas biscuits and never touched one!

Go me. Saying that having a big hole in my tooth makes avoiding sugar so much easier !

SomewhatSilly · 06/02/2014 18:48

Well done Dosey!

Well, in the interest of science and piggishness I made some avocado choc mousse. It wasn't quite the same, but it definitely hit the spot.

One more day and I'll have been biscuit free for a week!! Do you all find it easier on week days or weekends? I eat better week days as I have to be organised, but we don't have crap in the house, so less temptations at the weekend.

RhondaJean · 07/02/2014 20:12

I've just had one slice of DDs chocolate orange, feel a bit bad!

Still doing fine apart from that though.

I'm off out ?ith DH for his birthday at the weekend so will have Sunday/Monday off and then back on it Tuesday.

I don't find it difficult at all tbh, except for eating out or parties, at home or work or whatever it's fine just need to be a bit prepared about what to eat so there isn't the urge to grab something quick.

littlewhitebag · 07/02/2014 20:35

I have been biscuit and chocolate free for 10 days. Yay me!

I have however been eating a slice of Soreen malt loaf each day. It is lower sugar but still not great.

Small steps. Grin

SomewhatSilly · 08/02/2014 09:52

Well done lwb.

I've noticed that as time passes, more "natural sugars" are creeping into my diet. And lo and behold, the weight loss is slowing...

HearMyRoar · 08/02/2014 12:24

Well done everyone! :o

Went out for dinner last night and had what felt like a massive sugar binge. Lemon and honey monkfish followed by some of dh's ice cream and a little mint chocolate. It really felt like an outrageous amount of sugar, even though a couple of months ago I would have considered it pretty everyday. Its funny how perceptions of what is normal can change so quickly.

Reassuringly I don't now feel like going off on a massive sugar marathon. I really enjoyed it but feel pretty sugared out and happy to stop again. Its nice to know I can keep it for special occasions :)

BerylsDailyKumquat · 08/02/2014 13:13

Right, I'm joining you all from Monday! Sugar free to start with, then hoping to move onto giving up wheat and processed food altogether, but that's too much all in one go. I'll be back after the weekend x

EddieReadersglasses · 08/02/2014 15:01

I'm just popping in for a look! I've been trying to cut sugar down and eat less crappy food. Easy to get into a rut over Christmas when there is so much rubbish available.
So I've stopped having cereal at breakfast and am having full fat Greek yoghurt with fruit for breakfast. Either blueberries/grapes or sliced banana.
Lunch tends to be seeded brown bread sandwich with cheese and pickle / ham / tuna plus fruit eg clementine/ pear.
After school snack I've been making pancakes but Dcs keep asking for maple syrup/ golden syrup and I've been having a tiny bit too- not good I know!
Tea tends to be home made chilli/ stew/ stir fry etc. Only having pudding at weekends
Trying not to snack in evenings but sometimes having some kettle chips ( big bag over at least 3 nights)

So any suggestions? Subs for something to go with pancakes ( I'm not adding any sugar to batter btw)
Am I eating too much fruit or is that ok?
What are better fruits in terms of sugar - I'm not too worried re calories as not really trying to loose weight, just want to feel healthier and more energetic

EddieReadersglasses · 08/02/2014 15:02

Ps doing an online shop tonight so looking for ideas!! Grin
