Anybody fancy losing a stone and a half by Easter?

I have just weighed myself and the results were hideous. I need to start taking some steps to shift some pounds - the first one being moving away from the Christmas chocolates. Does anybody fancy joining me?
It is 16 weeks until Good Friday so losing a stone and a half is very doable. I am a ww monthly pass member but haven't attended meetings regularly or followed the plan properly since the Summer Blush
Please come and motivate me.

Hi there,
Checking in for progress details my second week's progress.
My starting weight on 03/01/14 was 168lbs or 76kgs.
My weight today is 159lbs or 72.2kg and so I have a weight loss of 9 lbs in total in 11 days.
I'm really pleased and I'm going to try and up my exercise stuff.
Good luck to everyone else.
Wishing us all to be onwards and downwards. Smile

LilyJoAndMe · 14/01/2014 12:23

At first I didn't want to tell my DH about my plan and did it alone. I thought he'd be too tempted to start interfering and monitoring what I ate. Then I changed my mind and it has made it much easier for me. He's being a big help.

ToysRLuv · 14/01/2014 12:44

Wow, well done Lily! I don't think I have ever lost weight that fast!

LilyJoAndMe · 14/01/2014 14:17

Thanks Toys,
I'm doing the 5:2 thing and it's doing alright for me at the mo. But you said that in the past you had issues with anorexia and I would suggest you're careful about starting 5:2. I always try to stay in tune with my psychological needs and make that a priority even if it means that, at times , I don't follow others.
I think you're doing well too.

ToysRLuv · 14/01/2014 14:36

You're right, I think I couldn't do 5:2. I think it would make me bingey and miserable.. Great to see how well it works for you, though!

I think I'm going to aim for another 3 kg off, so I will be 68 kg. Will see how I feel about continuing when I get to that point. I have never been able to maintain a weight below 74 kg for longer than around 2 years at a time.

Have been doing the plank for the last couple of days. Weird, but satisfying. You can feel (nearly) every muscle in your body working.

SomethingLovely · 14/01/2014 15:04

Finally had a moment to weigh in & check in... 2lbs off since last weigh in so I'm happy. Have put tubs of grapes out to pick on when I fancy something sweet- trying to avoid the chocolate, it's my downfall!

Well done those who've seen a difference so far - and those that haven't yet don't worry, it can take a couple of weeks for weight to shift so the good work now will pay off, it's just a bit disheartening in the meantime...

ToysRLuv · 14/01/2014 15:15

For those who like chocolate and hot choc: Have you tried Galaxy bubbles light hot choc at 40 kcals a serving? It's lovely with a bubbly froth on top . IMO better than the other light hot chocs and satisfies my cravings.

ToysRLuv · 14/01/2014 15:16

Also, well done, Something!

SomethingLovely · 14/01/2014 15:50

Ooh yes that's a great idea - used to have choc options years ago as a substitute, completely forgot - thank you for reminding me!!

CRbear · 14/01/2014 16:42

Great idea toysrluv!

Does anyone else eat the calories suggested by myfitnesspal? I started on the 1kg loss per week plan which is 1200 cals, but I decided if I want to keep this off forever I'm better doing it slow so the jump to maintenance cals isn't so big. I'm now on 0.5kg per week loss plan, but I can eat 1470 cals according to this. It feels like a lot, enough that I can have a choc treat in the evening e.g.a curly curly. I need some reassurance that this will work, any experience out there?

MegBusset · 14/01/2014 16:51

Yep I have MFP set to 0.5lb a week loss, which gives me 1450 calories a day. Any less I find makes me miserable. I do exercise 3x a week though and don't eat my exercise calories unless it's a special occasion like a meal out.

CRbear · 14/01/2014 16:58

0.5lbs or kgs megbusset? Has it been working for you? Or too soon to tell?

MercuryRising · 14/01/2014 18:53

Off for my weigh in in a minute. Apart from a mishap with some cookies I have been pretty good so fingers crossed.

Lbs. it has worked previously, if more slowly (but more sustainable!)

Batbear · 15/01/2014 08:32

Nice idea on the hot choc Toys

I'm following MFP which has helped me plan my food out and stopping me picking or sneaking and extra biscuit.
I'm BF DS2 so am going slightly over my allowance and trying to have more calcium rich foods but it works for me.

My over tired toddler and baby joined me with a dancing session yesterday as DS1 was too tired to go out and I hoped swinging a baby and toddler about for half an hour might help!

Bakingnovice · 15/01/2014 08:45

Hi everyone. Wk 2 for me. I've found that I've really lost my appetite this week. Lots of stress and running around. However I've not lost anything so far. Fingers crossed for the weekends weigh in. I wonder if my body is slowing right down on account of losing my appetite. Think I'm going to have a big meal today. Keep meaning to restart the 5:2 but have ended up on fast calories most days. And I'm going to start the plank today, promise.....

katyinbrixton · 15/01/2014 10:34

Hi all, is it too late for me to join in? I have to 'fess up and say I'm not a Mum ... I came across these forums when I was searching for something and I really need something like this to keep me motivated.

I'm 5'6"1/2 and 151 lbs (68.5 kg). I'm just within the normal BMI range, which is ok health-wise but have put on 10k in the last couple of years and would really love to get back to a weight I'm more comfortable with. Eventually I'd like to lose the whole 10k, but a stone by Easter would be a wonderful start!

I'm not following any diet - I don't do well with too much restriction or denial - but I'm trying to eat smaller/healthier meals and cut back on snacks, reducing my overall calories. I'm also running 3-4 times a week, walking regularly and playing netball twice a week. Between the exercise and eating healthier I'm aiming to cut at least 500 cals a day from my recommended intake and lose a pound a week.

JonesH · 15/01/2014 10:55

It was my new years resolution but i've definitely started slow! I had joined a gym back in Oct/Nov, but then I stopped going in December(mostly because i wanted to enjoy that month, eat what I wanted and worry about it after) So then I went back after christmas, I go to classes three times a week as I prefer these to working out on my own -mostly because i'd be completely lost not knowing what to actually do! M&S have released a really good 'healthy' range, and i have something from the range for lunch on most days, as well as Tesco, unsure about the others but Morrisons probably does as well, which is great because they tell me how many calories and as soon as i see 'healthy' i'm happy! As i am going to the gym I also need lots of slow release energy foods which I really struggled with because i'd find myself feeling quite sick or tired whilst at the gym, so i try snack on a flapjack or raisins or 9bar as 9bars are great for runners (which i eventually want to get into)But it has been hard when theres still christmas chocolate lying around..

Baby I did 5:2 for 8 months in 2012 and lost virtually nothing! I feel your pain.

ToysRLuv · 15/01/2014 14:35

CRbear: I am on a 1200 kcal allowance on mfp (am quite sedentary). I tend to eat between 1200 and 1400 kcal. I aim for a 0.5 kg loss a week and mostly it has worked.

Welcome katy!

babybarrister: That sucks.. Have you tried recording what you eat (mfp is perfect for that)? That way you can see if you're on the right track.

RufusTheReindeer · 16/01/2014 13:33

Just had a very naughty lunch, and elevenses, I have counted it all though and my tea is quite low in calories so hopefully it will balance out

Had my fast days on Monday and Wednesday

Weighing in again Saturday morning, it's going to be a hard slog I think but my Christmas weight is gone and my stomach is less bloated

kilimmesoftly · 16/01/2014 14:52

Hello all, I weighed on Monday, but didn't get chance to post. Have lost 4lb this week. 6 in total.

Despite initially talking about calories in/calories out, I've gone low carb and it seems to suit me.

IceBeing · 16/01/2014 15:07

Well done for weight losses!

I just took my research group out for lunch and will be fat forever more.

TalkinPeace · 16/01/2014 16:16

Katy there are all varieties on these threads from students to grandads - welcome to the crew

Using MFP - 1200 calories a day is pretty brutal and not the way you should be eating when you get to a happy weight
around 1500 is much saner - that is what my TDEE comes in at

the real, fantastic part of MFP is to just log, exactly, what you are eating and drinking
every last sip and every last bite
even the slice of cheese while making lunch sandwiches
and the square of chocolate while turning the kettle on
because those "hidden" calories are the bit that has to go

also, if you can stop snacking : save all of your calories for larger nicely structured meals

Icebeing
but was the lunch good as then the short term set back is worth it.
