And anyone else who wants to join in. The idea of this thread is a way to record weightloss, motivate each other, discuss which methods if any we are using to lose weight and give the occasional kick up the bum.

Right you lot. I was going to wait until new year to start this thread but I think that if I'm going to have my head in the right place to start, I need your help now. I haven't weighed yet I'll do that on the 1st but I think I probably have 2 1/2 stone to lose. Last time I had 3st to lose so I'm seeing that as a postitive.

So, are any of you still out there? Who'd like to join me? Xmas Grin

Always good when that happens. Grin

Has anyone heard of Humzingers? They are a dried fruit bar that I give to the dcs as a snack. I just had one hoping to combat a sugar craving and it really did the trick. They are 35 cals each. I get them in the packed lunch section in Sainsbury's.

eighty the carb/protein thing I find interesting. I do think sugar is bad, as I find it addictive and the more I eat the sweeter I like things. I am increasingly trying to eat protein foods rather than carby things for snacks (yoghurt and nuts are a fave). I feel like I overload on carbs too much and need to cut it back. I think carbs can make you eat more.

Hair yes I quite like childs/toddler foods Blush . but one after eight is about the same calories don'tcha know Confused

Interesting fact - I always find if I exercise it actually helps keep my appetite under control and wondered why this was. Was reading on one of Dhs science/news magazines they've now proved apparently exercise does help appetite control as something to do with bouncing up and down stops the stomach working or something or other so it helps appetite.

Did insanity cardio today which just about makes up for my after eight and chocolate button splurge earlier Blush .

Off to spin... That'll help negate the hobnob incident of 2pm...

Absolutely flipping starving today and was hoping that at five days in I would be more settled. I don't think I am getting enough calories in the day time so need to work something else in other than The shakes and fruit. Healthy evening meals are going well but to be honest it's not filling me up. Willpower is holding out and haven't had a drop of wine so far. I MISS BREAD! You know what I actually miss it more than wine!

Yep hence why the shakes instead of solid food. I normally have bread for breakfast, bread for lunch and a carb filled tea (either potato, pasta or rice). Then wine and lovely snacks! Hence the 2 stone that has crept on resulting in a very round belly, huge boobs and weirdly fat neck! I feel avoiding it altogether is the best option although I will try rye at the weekend with poached eggs for a proper brekky.

2kidsintow · 08/01/2014 20:52

Oops. Mixed days this week.

2kidsintow · 08/01/2014 20:55

On a course on Monday, but healthy salad was offered for lunch and I only had the tiniest piece of cake with coffee (and none of the cream cakes with dinner). Used mfp and I was under my daily allowance.

Yesterday, there was lots of leftover buffet stuff from the training day still in the staff room and I'd forgotten to take in my soup, so it was mini bread rolls with thin, thin, thin slices of cheshire cheese and coleslaw. THen out for dinner with friends. Oops.

Today, better. I've dragged my bottom back to Zumba and it felt good to get my heartrate up properly. :)

KatoPotatoHoHo · 08/01/2014 21:53

Sherbert, what shakes are you having?

ifandwhen · 09/01/2014 09:27

Just catching up - thanks for the welcomes - yes it was partly the 'comfy joggers' image that did it - although I too aspire to the status of 'shoes of fabulousness' or whatever at some point soon ;)

And I too have had to remove all chocolate from house.

When I lost weight previously I cut out dairy and sugar (as well as calorie counting and exercise). Still ate some carbs, but small portions. Like Reastie, at the moment I'm trying to swap in more protein instead - I find it gives me longer-lasting energy.

KatoPotatoHoHo · 09/01/2014 11:11

First spin class with my new heart rate monitor, actually burned 476cals, not 350 as mfp suggested. Don't worry, I didn't eat them back in hobnobs for once! Incidentally DH has finished the pack I bought in a frenzy so please stop me from buying any more please!!!

Summer fruit and banana smoothie for breakfast, nice and full now!!

TheOneWithTheHair · 09/01/2014 11:28

ifandwhen I honestly think that I'd find it harder to cut out dairy than anything else.

Well done Kato, do not buy any hobnobs!!

I'm finding it hard today. I'm tired and grumpy which is when I would usually reach for caffeine and chocolate. I'm still having coffee but really want chocolate. That's why I had to get rid of my Christmas chocolate.

I suffer with SAD but I've managed really well so far this winter. Today is a bad day though.

OP posts:
KatoPotatoHoHo · 09/01/2014 11:38

Hi hair have you had an official SAD diagnosis? I work with a published SAD consultant psychiatrist who does some great work in this field!

TheOneWithTheHair · 09/01/2014 11:45

No not official. I didn't even realise until dh pointed it out a few years ago. Even IMST has had to point out the weather to me on occasion when I've been feeling low.

I take vitamin D and usually cope ok but I tend to have one or two really bad days each winter where I will sit in a chair all day and the only thing I'll do is the school run.

The problem is that I only think about getting help when I'm in the grip of it and then I can't be bothered iyswim.

Well chickened out of the gym last night but am definitely going tonight !!
Made some spinach rocket and pea soup for lunch and salmon again for supper so all healthy there !

Need a virtual kick up the ass to do everything else in the house !!

sherbetpips · 09/01/2014 12:47

katopotatohoho slimfast. Have 6 weeks until a big do and I find it a good way to avoid bread (which I tend only to eat at breakfast/lunch). after the do I will revert back to healthy eating and no wine in the week.

sherbet, slim fast shakes are stuffed with chemicals and sugary carbs! You'd probably be better (health wise and financial wish) making your own shakes with ice cubes, fruit, veg and generic protein powder. Higher protein would stop you feeling so hungry as the slim fast ones do?

I have a shake like that for breakfast, and I'm so full I have to force a lunch down!

ToeFluff · 09/01/2014 17:19

Ahhh so just nearly ordered pizza!

Been poorly all week and still not feeling right, basically slept for 3 days and just thought stuff it I'm poorly...but I didn't! I'm keeping the 4lb sickness loss wooooo!

Have a lot to catch up on so will have a look after ds goes to bed, see u all in a bit!

Reastie · 09/01/2014 18:30

Hello everyone,

I love having you all back!

Did an hours circuit work out earlier and was literally dripping in sweat by the end Grin . Definitely makes me feel better about finally finishing the after eight packet earlier.

Sherbet Kato is super ace with her knowledge in shakes

Toefluff the motivation is stong, well done :)

eighty you'll get back to speed with the running. It's so easily lost [the fitness] but you'll get there.

1mad I'm hoping you're at the gym as I type this

Hair my sister and neighbour suffer from sad :( It can be miserable. Have you got one of those fancy pants lights to sit in front of? (I'm sure we had this conversation a couple of years ago but can't remember what you said to that!).

Kato I'm interested in your heart rate monitor. Other than checking your heart rate, can it measure calories then? How accurate is it? I'd love to have an accurate machine tell me that when I'm doing my exercise DVDs. I used to love the calorie monitors at the gym and try to get a better burn every time Blush .

Reastie · 09/01/2014 18:31

oh, and toefluff hope you feel better soon. It's miserable being ill.

KatoPotatoHoHo · 09/01/2014 18:55

reastie you plug in your weight height age etc, and wear the strap around your chest and it send the signal to the watch.

The computers on the gym machines only use your finger pulse so are not so accurate! This hrm also tells when you're in 'the zone' for spin last night my heart rate was too high, but I was pedalling for dear life and was wrecked!
