And anyone else who wants to join in. The idea of this thread is a way to record weightloss, motivate each other, discuss which methods if any we are using to lose weight and give the occasional kick up the bum.

Right you lot. I was going to wait until new year to start this thread but I think that if I'm going to have my head in the right place to start, I need your help now. I haven't weighed yet I'll do that on the 1st but I think I probably have 2 1/2 stone to lose. Last time I had 3st to lose so I'm seeing that as a postitive.

So, are any of you still out there? Who'd like to join me? Xmas Grin

I don't believe in cutting out any food group. Moderation is key. Although protein does keep you full.

I also think you have to allow for lapses/treats/nights out or you are setting yourself up to fail. A good way is to compensate before if it's planned or after if it's a lapse. That way your weekly total isn't way out iyswim.

I just use full fat milk and chopped banana and count it all as my points. Can't start the day without it and a cup of earl grey ! God I am old.

Going for a long walk with the buggy after lunch then the gym tonight.

ifandwhen · 08/01/2014 12:03

Hi all - can I join you please? Have been looking for a friendly weight loss thread that isn't tied to one particular approach - I could really do with some company on this. And a spreadsheet would keep me in line ;)

Had an unpleasant encounter with the scales this morning and somehow seem to be weighing in at 160lb. I want to get back to around 144lb. Didn't realise I had wandered so far from this, must've been looking the other way

Have had success before with calorie counting and exercise, so as of today am back on track with that. Have set myself an initial goal of losing a lb a week until I reach 148lb - so over 12 weeks.

KatoPotatoHoHo · 08/01/2014 12:22

Welcome ifandwhen! please pull up a virtual stool! Was it the comfy joggies that swung it for you?

eighty I've toyed with low carb, and it's great for a quick fix flat tummy, but as soon as I deprive myself of anything - particularly an entire food group - I feel cheated and like I'm not in control.

imst has admitted herself that she's super determined, I'm really quite rubbish, and if you look at my mfp diaries you'll see 700+ cal snack days but I exercise to justify it...

StealthPolarBear · 08/01/2014 12:30

Hi ifandwhen

Hair, you say "

StealthPolarBear · 08/01/2014 12:33

Which seems like a really good idea. Im definitely going to try the pre compensation. Problem for me with lapses is that I wake up the next day with a food hangover feeling very down on myself. Post-compensating then would just feel like i was punishing myself. And in need of comfort... anyone got any suggestions to handle that?

I think youve actually helped me figure out sometjing thats really helpful and fundamental as to why I slip.

StealthPolarBear · 08/01/2014 12:36

Not why I slip. Why o cant get back to it after a day off. Id be happy to allow myself a day off every now and then but struggle to stoo at a day.
I think the answer may be to treat myself in eating healthily for the first few days. Buy sushi etc. Allow myself to have more cals than usual. Then when ive got ober the food hangover, back to it!

InMySpareTime · 08/01/2014 13:33

EightyTwenty, when I was losing weight I didn't have any days off or splurges, but if I knew a meal out was planned I'd look at the menu online to find a way to manage those calories either by extra exercise or less food for other meals. It isn't an approach that would work for most people everyone, but I needed to break some long ingrained habits, and the only way for me was to make new food and exercise habits.
It's a lot easier now I'm maintaining, I have the odd slice of cake or glass of wine most weeks. But I can take it or leave it, eg there's been a bottle of wine in the fridge unopened since Friday, I had a small glass last night and put it back in the fridge as I'd had enough.
Habits can change, given time and persistence.

TheOneWithTheHair · 08/01/2014 13:40

I think that would work Stealth as long as it was only a couple of days. The danger is that you could easily slip back to old habits.

Do you think that the food hangover is partly brought on by mental guilt? If you stopped thinking of it as a failure and more of something that happens in everyone's life, you could stop feeling so bad and be able to concentrate more on compensating?

Wise words as always.

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 08/01/2014 13:56

Yes its definitely a mental thing too. Combination of bloat and guilt aself loathing :o not sure how much ill be able to just put those feelings aside. Will have a think.

TheOneWithTheHair · 08/01/2014 14:36

I didn't mean straight away but if you coach yourself it could be do-able. It's habit changing and that always takes time.
