And anyone else who wants to join in. The idea of this thread is a way to record weightloss, motivate each other, discuss which methods if any we are using to lose weight and give the occasional kick up the bum.

Right you lot. I was going to wait until new year to start this thread but I think that if I'm going to have my head in the right place to start, I need your help now. I haven't weighed yet I'll do that on the 1st but I think I probably have 2 1/2 stone to lose. Last time I had 3st to lose so I'm seeing that as a postitive.

So, are any of you still out there? Who'd like to join me? Xmas Grin

My style is individual but not kooky.

OP posts:
Reastie · 16/01/2014 19:51

Individual, far better way to describe what I imagine Hair

Tobermory · 16/01/2014 20:00

if glad you're all on the road to recovery now!

imst wow 8st7. As Reastie says that is indeed teeny tiny. How tall are you?

hair you crochet? Me too! I love sitting spending an evening surrounded by wool!

Good food day today but I've been hungry. Looking forward to being well enough to exercise

i have a question for you all..... How did you know what your goal was? How did you decide what number you were aiming for?

When I started I wanted to have a healthy bmi and be a size 16. I now have a healthy bmi (just) and am a 16 and much happier than I was. But now I want to lose more and be smaller....but where to aim?!

ifandwhen · 16/01/2014 20:45

thanks Tobermory. And good question: my goal is currently 142lb, because that's where I was a year ago, and it felt right, although at the time I'm sure I thought I could still do with losing a couple more pounds Smile

Hair - the webchat about high intensity training is here, its the 5:2 people: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/mumsnet_live_events/a1962922-Dr-Michael-Mosley-and-Peta-Bee-Live-webchat-Monday-13-January-midday-1pm

On the subject of which, I'd be interested to hear people's experiences/ opinions of 5:2 - it seems very popular but I haven't pursued it myself, as I find that I need regular grub energy to ward off mood swings. I read somewhere that fasting exacerbates PMS, and whilst my hormones are still all over the place from making babies it seems like regular eating, with reduced portions and more exercise suits me better...

2kids - liking your style, the dress is a great goal!

Tobermory · 16/01/2014 21:59

That's good if you know from recent experience where/what you want to be. This is the lightest I've been in probably ten years, maybe more so hard to imagine what my frame would look like and how I would carry 10 or 20 pounds less.

Sorry, haven't been back since the start of the week as I haven't been well. Will read through properly when I feel better. Some amazing stories of Fab weight loss here, well done allSmile

KatoPotato · 17/01/2014 00:49

Interested to see how you imagine me!! Disco pants and a munchy box??

KatoPotato · 17/01/2014 00:51

HIIT is high intensity interval training, and is supposed to be the best for fat burning and general fitness? Most spin classes work on this principle with short bursts if all out effort, then bringing the heart rate back down again before cranking it up again.

I tried metafit tonight... God sweet lord...

Reastie · 17/01/2014 07:01

Tober fab question as I've been wondering exactly the same thing! My initial goal was 5 stone loss and wear a size 16. Then it was a healthy BMI. Now it's a BMI in the middle of the healthy range (22.5) so I'm comfortably in there and could put on a bit in the future and still be a healthy weight. But it feels like I keep changing the goals! When do I stop.... I'm finding it really hard to lose now (my BMI is 24) and wondering if and how much more I should lose.

ifnadhwen my opinion of 5:2 is, if it works for you then fab, but for me (I have ishoos with blood sugar levels) I could never do it. And, I'd eat too much to compensate on the off days. I remember watching the original documentary it became famous on and there was another diet shown on there called something like high nutrient low calorie diet (which I found really interesting, more so than 5:2 one), which showed also lots of positive health effects but no one has picked up on this diet, but I think that's as it's a way of life to eat like that, whereas 5:2 everyone can relate to and try and still eat normal foods.

Kato yes, that's it, got it in one, disco pants and munch box Wink . Metafit, what is this?!

Tobermory · 17/01/2014 08:48

Reastie, i remember us having a conversation about BMI last year and just how much BMI varies. My BMI is 24.7 so 'just' in the healthy band I'm a size 16 but very tall, whereas you get a BMI of 24 and you're a size 12 and i assume ……how to put this…… less tall?! Grin

InMySpareTime · 17/01/2014 10:10

I'm just 5', so even at 8st 7 my BMI is still 23.
My aim at the start was to get my weight within the healthy BMI range with a bit of a buffer. For me, the top of the range is 9st.
I'm not aiming for the supposed "ideal" for my height, 7st 13 (BMI 21) as I'm already thin enough, and wouldn't be able to donate blood at that weight.
BMI vs dress size is an interesting debate, I hit size 10 way before I got down to a healthy BMI (I think I was still "obese" at size 12). I think it's a lot more to do with frame size and muscle mass than just weight and size. I try not to get too hung up on either, focusing instead on energy levels and balancing food intake with exercise.

KatoPotato · 17/01/2014 10:52

Metafit is a fresh new hell. It's HIIT/tabata training, where you do high reps of a bodyweight/aerobic exercise.

Last night started with running around the hall and side stepping and high knees, then straight into two step dashes, adding an extra move each turn until you are doing 7 consecutive moves - it was dashes, walk down push ups, burpees, squat jumps, plank, hillclimbers and static high knees sprints. you get a 30second rest and then work back down to one move. The class only lasts about 30mins but I burned 460 odd calories (heart monitor)

I had a sneaky weigh in, but just like before xmas I struggle to go lower than 142! - my body fat % is down to 18 and my trainer says I 'dont look my weight!' I'm not sure what I'm heading for really any more! My BMI is only just 'normal' and I'm now a comfortable size 10 - I have never ever been this small in my life, but I still feel a bit all at sea...

Not going to lie, I still have copious snacks, but always keep my calories at 1200 or so and never eat my exercise calories!

Katiebeau · 17/01/2014 12:45

Hello. Please can I join the thread? I've started weight watchers at a BMI of 26.5. I've never weighed this much even straight after the babies.

I tried very hard to stick to the points or just under and exercised every day (even if it was just a 5 mile walk). I lost 1 lb Hmm

I need to lose 30lbs. It's going to take a while......

Congratulations to all of loosing weight. It's hard work!!!!

TheOneWithTheHair · 17/01/2014 14:07

Afternoon all and welcome katiebeau. Just get stuck in with the thread. There's a lot of good advice in amongst the chatting.

Tobermory I love crochet. I started just over a year ago and haven't looked back.

Thanks for the link ifandwhen. I'll have a read of that thread later.

eighty how tall are you? I'm 10st 13 and feel ok. Not thin but passable. Your pp sounds how I felt re photos etc but I would like to be 9st 6/7 as my ideal weight.

I hope you are feeling better northender.

Well Kato, when I'm not imagining you being an assassin/ manservant to the Pink Panther, yes you are in blue disco pants complete with munchy box and chicken balls! But on the plus side I've always seen you as slim and very toned. By the way, your post about metafit read as a foreign language to me!! I haven't got a clue what those moves are!!

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 17/01/2014 17:38

hi everyone and welcome Katie :)

Reastie · 17/01/2014 18:17

Kato Metafit sounds a bit like insanity only you just do 30 seconds - 1 minute on each move, not moving down to one move (which sounds impossible).

It's interesting a few of us aren't really sure where we're heading with our final goals. In a way I'm not so bothered with the scales and more interested in getting even fitter and more toned, but that isn't so easy to measure and I like the reassurance of tracking progress on the scales.

Progress here not going so great. Was definitely going to do a workout this afternoon after work after not managing one yesterday, but was just shattered, I lunged on the sofa barely keeping my eyes open. Now I feel cross with myself for not forcing myself into it. I will just have to do it tomorrow. Usually I'm desperate to workout but suddenly it's a chore Confused . Did a cheeky weigh in this morning and might be 1lb ON since my 2 lb loss on monday, so things are not looking good :(

Hello Katie

Hair I'm 5"6

Katiebeau · 17/01/2014 19:32

Hello Everyone.

I'm trying cauliflower rice tonight. Anyone eaten it before?

My poor husband. His tummy is complaining about all this healthy food Wink

TheOneWithTheHair · 17/01/2014 19:37

I think a few have tried it before although I haven't. reastie or kato I think. Let me know how it is. Dh hates cauliflower so no chance of it here.

Stealth, you ok? Why ya hidin'?

OP posts:
Reastie · 17/01/2014 19:58

cauliflower rice? What is this?! Do tell.

TheOneWithTheHair · 17/01/2014 20:02

Ok not reastie then. Grin My memory is sooo bad!

I think you blend cauliflower until it's like rice and then use it as a replacement. But don't trust me. Clearly my memory is shot so it may be something completely different. Confused

OP posts:
Reastie · 17/01/2014 20:44

ahh, interesting. Well, your memory is clearly better than mine as I don't recall it at all! I can't eat cauliflower due to dratted IBS so maybe I forgot it as it's no use to me (unless it's a crafty way to disguise cauliflower to sneak some veg into DD, in which I'll give anything a go! I called soup houmous yesterday in the hope she'd fall for it and try some. She didn't Hmm )

TheOneWithTheHair · 17/01/2014 20:54

Grin Hahahaha. I think the only one you were kidding there was yourself! Grin

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 17/01/2014 20:56

Lol I've done that before - called home made pasta sauce "tomato sauce" in the hope they'll assume I mean ketchup :o Never works.
I'm fine thanks for asking Hair! Sorry for not being on in ages - been incredibly busy at work, plus struggle to post on long threads on my phone. I am working on Sunday, will have the house to myself and need to keep myself working - key "snacking" problem day I think.

TheOneWithTheHair · 17/01/2014 21:01

Glad you're ok. Keep full would be my tip. Have a steady supply of low cal snacks. I have rediscovered cracker breads this week. Spread some light Philadelphia on it or other light spread and it's a great snack.

I love biscuits so it fulfils that craving too.

I have a non weightloss question for everyone. Does anyone write a blog?
