Giving up chocolate for Lent Club !

binker · 22/02/2004 11:22

I must be quite mad, but Lent begins on Wednesday and I'm planning to give up chocolate (incl. any chocolate related foodstuffs) for the duration - does anyone fancy joining me ? I eat chocolate every day and love it dearly, so I look on it as a test of willpower, plus it might be good for me !! Also,as a very lapsed Catholic I think there is a bit of the self-denial thing going on !
Any suggestions for choc free snacks ?
Thought about giving up coffee too (I have a passion for real coffee made in my little espresso pot- twice daily) but I think that'd be going a bit too far !

Hi - can I join your club? I'm managing so far but it is killing me. Had to march very quickly and determindly (is that a word?) past all the choc in Asda the other day but still did not give in to temptation. A bit of moral support will help I think.
Did you know that traditionally you are allowed a break from your lenten denials on the middle Sunday - which also happens to be Mothers' Day?!

JanHR · 17/03/2004 21:57

I think someone posted that detail further down, but we all feel that if we give in on a sunday we might fail.

ds brought home his Mother's Day offering this week from Beavers - hand made chocolates in a decorated glass ! Shall let dh eat them as I don't think they'll keep until Easter...I'm not finding this hard, but BORING..............
Welcome too Tommy !

Is no-one else planning to have a day off on Mothers Day? I have been good so far except for one little slip but I know there are some special chocs coming my way tomorrow and I intend to have them!

Tommy · 22/03/2004 14:06

I had some last night - it being Mothers' Day and everything... Bron - Mothers' Day has to be in Lent so you can have a break from your Lenten denials!

JanHR · 28/03/2004 19:52

I went out for a meal with friends on Friday. I did so well avoiding ll the chocolate desserts eveno though everyone else wa having one. I had toffe cheesecake which had a couple of wafter twirls in it. It was only after eating them at I realised that they had a chocolate centre.

binker · 29/03/2004 11:31

it was accidental tho' JanHR - so don't fret. Not long to go now !

I have just asked DP if I am getting a choc egg for easter and he lloed blankly at me

Ixel · 04/04/2004 17:26

how on earth do you resist choc when at home all day with babies? The only way i gave it up before was because I was at work, so too busy to have choccie breaks! I really need an incentive, but it all seems such an impossible task. Plus nothing else tastes so good!

binker · 09/04/2004 14:49

not long now !

I'm so looking forward to tomorrow! I can't believe that I'm still craving it. I'm wondering if I had managed without the choc fest on Mohters' day, I'd be feeling less like an addict who knows when the next hit is coming. I nearly ipped open DS1's Buttons egg yesterday!

Allegra · 10/04/2004 17:05

When I started this I was planning a choc feast on Easter Sunday but now I'm doing weight-watchers so I'm going to have to be restrained. Really bad planning on my part

Tommy · 10/04/2004 18:34

That should be Mothers' and ripped of course...I'm obviously suffering

champs · 11/04/2004 00:10

Congrats to you all!!! dont be surprised if you find chocolate to taste different to how you remember it... or even if it tastes horrible!!

Well done for sticking with it!!

Happy Easter!!

binker · 11/04/2004 12:35

Thanks champs !! hooray - haven't had any choc yet, am feeling a bit unwilling to end my fat, though have been thinking of chocolate a lot !!
Well done everyone else and good for you Allegra, though sorry you can't indulge now. How are you JanHR ?
