Giving up chocolate for Lent Club !

binker · 22/02/2004 11:22

I must be quite mad, but Lent begins on Wednesday and I'm planning to give up chocolate (incl. any chocolate related foodstuffs) for the duration - does anyone fancy joining me ? I eat chocolate every day and love it dearly, so I look on it as a test of willpower, plus it might be good for me !! Also,as a very lapsed Catholic I think there is a bit of the self-denial thing going on !
Any suggestions for choc free snacks ?
Thought about giving up coffee too (I have a passion for real coffee made in my little espresso pot- twice daily) but I think that'd be going a bit too far !

I don't think I should risk it though ! I'll be trying for the complete choc-fast ! thanks though for the info Miranda2 !

I've just had a really rich hot chocolate and savoured every mouthful!
I'm not going to risk a Sunday treat either, for I know from when I did a four week detox it was easier when it was completely out my system. A little would just set the cravings off again.

musica · 24/02/2004 16:48

I'll join too. Will be good for me!

JanHR · 24/02/2004 21:07

I have just made a hot chocolate. I think I may trear myself to a Sunday night hot chocolate as ! is usually enough for me and I have a few nice ones that I was sent in February swap

Good luck everyone, you had your last choccys last night.

I got up yesterday thinking it was Wednesday and was hustling about until DH called and asked what I was doing. Told him I didn't have time to talk as we were already late for the service. He called me a pl**ker because the day was tomorrow. Thank heavens for that, we would never have made it. Sheesh!

Okay back to bed for a 2 hour nap.

JanHR will you be starting a thread for support and updates on how everyone is getting on with this challenge? Please do.....

JanHR · 25/02/2004 14:32

Support thread set up.

binker · 25/02/2004 17:14

All is going well with me ast the moment, but I think it helps not having any chocolate in the house

Mum2Ela · 26/02/2004 12:56

aah, am now confused. Where shall I post - here or the other thread?

JanHR · 26/02/2004 13:15

Not sure, but I was asked to start the other thread

binker · 27/02/2004 11:12

I might stick with this one, as it's an Lent thing, rather than an ongoing choc fast...

binker · 29/02/2004 14:34

how did you do at lunch ?

OP posts:
JanHR · 29/02/2004 16:06

I managed tio avoid the chocolate fudge cake as there was not a pudding menu on the table. Ronniebaby went to find out what was available and when she came back it was not mentioned so I had Spotted dick and custard

binker · 01/03/2004 18:08

Today I took DD to safeways for a snack before going to my inlaws. I had a lemon muffin, but I bought DD a packet of Cadbury mimi animals and resisted stealing any.

Mum2Ela · 01/03/2004 21:33

Hi everyone - how is it going?

I have been fine avoiding chocolate - just have been suffing myself with fruitellas instead. not good.

Will definitely try to avoid most sweet things as from tomorrow.

JanHR · 02/03/2004 20:56

i am going to mums tomorrow so I bought some treats in for DP for when I am away. One of those was a packet of Jaff cakes which DD also loves, as soon as she saw the packet she wanted one. So I got 2 out of the packet and gave them both to her and resisted having any myself

binker · 13/03/2004 22:28

I'd like to say that despite a difficult week with problems with our boiler (I dread those domestic crises !)I DID NOT EAT CHOCOLATE !

well done. We were at mums surprise 60th party last night and the cakes that were on the buffet table had chocolate in them. I resisted
