Hi Ghosty - I'm not bf, so don't have that to consider. However, I had a week recently where I lost nothing. I was unhappy about it as I felt that while I hadn't followed the diet to the letter, I had done the majority "as intended" and therefore should have had some results.

WW leader and friends who've been successful on the program have suggested 4 things to monitor particularly:

  1. Water intake needs to be at levels suggested.
  2. Portion size. I realised that my meat portions in particular were too big, so I cut them down.
  3. Regular Exercise - nearly impossible as a mum anyway, and even more difficult as a bf mum. Can you walk as vigorously as possible on errands so that there is some aerobic benefit?
  4. Write down absolutely everything you eat/drink, and assign a point value. It is so easy to have a sip of wine here, a biscuit there and never account for it. But those nibbles really can add up.

All credit to you for doing this so soon after giving birth. I used bf as a way to justify NOT doing anything about my weight for a good long while. Must say I feel a bit funny posting suggestions as I am so new to the program, and am a long way from my target weight. But, thought I would share what I've been advised when I had a similarly discouraging week. Good luck, and hang in there.

Thanks Earlybird ... any words of wisdom and support greatly accepted
Your point about water is very true ... I try to drink a lot but to be honest it is hard it up ...
And exercise too ... Going for a walk with dd isn't a problem ... it is DS and his dawdling that is and we spend ages stopping and looking at things ... might have to nail him to a skate board or something

Ghosty · 25/03/2004 07:14

re. water ... meant to say 'hard to keep it up ... '

Grommit · 25/03/2004 07:23

Ghosty - I did not lose in week 2 - this (according to the woman who takes the class)was mainly due to the fact that I had not eaten enough points (trying to be clever and eat less to lose more!)and had not drunk enough water. Also your body weight fluctuates at diferent times of the month - maybe you had a bit of fluid retention? I am sure you will lose next week!!

misdee · 25/03/2004 07:54

oh gawd, just reading thro all this and you lot all seem so slim and lovely compared to me. Anyway, i am 15stone 6lb and am only 5ft 3inches tall so really really need to lose weight. I am thinking of joining WW, but am worried about the kina thing i'll be allowed to eat. is there yummy recipies out there, do u end up eating differently to your family, and how much a week do most people lose.
i should also fix the punctures on my bike and get out and cycle each evening too.

CountessDracula · 25/03/2004 10:49

OK I tried SW and it was too restrictive and complicated. So, back to WW - it did work for a while before.

I'm going to join online, does anyone know of a promo code?

fio2 · 25/03/2004 10:58

misdee i did weightwatchers and i found the recipes were fine for all the family. they are just normal stuff but ww style. I did cook my spag bol like theirs anyway, so you may find the same. Good luck, I really need to get back with it myself

CountessDracula · 25/03/2004 11:13

fio are you an online member?

BTW now have access to the online points calculator so if anyone needs something calculating just ask

CountessDracula · 25/03/2004 19:51

Can someone help me with RICE!!

When I say 2oz rice is that dried or cooked weight. I think dry, can anyone help me with that? Am not bloody well weighing out hot cooked rice and making it go cold!

collision · 25/03/2004 20:02

75g which is about 3oz is 1.5 pts so 2oz would be 1pt.
HTH

collision · 25/03/2004 20:03

Sorry......2oz cooked rice is 1point

collision · 25/03/2004 20:06

I dont think that helped either CD.....sorry.
Just over 1oz dry rice is 1.5pts

fio2 · 25/03/2004 20:07

no CD I used to go to meetings, isnt it a bit steep to be an online member? I feel like crap really, I need to diet but seem to be ill just lately and dieting is just useless...ho hum

CountessDracula · 25/03/2004 20:09

It is steep but I thought that the guilt of paying might make me do it (don't know why as never worked with the gym!
£40 for 3 months

The recipe builder thing is almost worth the cash on it's own!

CountessDracula · 25/03/2004 20:09

Thanks Collision xx

CountessDracula · 25/03/2004 20:10

oh just remembered not talking to you cos of your perfect lifestlye!!

collision · 25/03/2004 20:28

yeah yeah......dont forget that wherever you live you still have to do the washing, ironing cleaning etc and still have to pay bills!!!!! The good side is I have a lovely view and great weather!!

Demented · 26/03/2004 20:02

Anyone know roughly how many points would be in a lunch sized portion of chicken fajitas (two whole tortillas)? DH took me for lunch and this looked about the healthiest thing. TIA.

Allegra · 26/03/2004 21:10

W.W online has them ranging from 4.5 pts for M&S count on us chicken fajitas to 16 pts for Sainsbury's salsa chicken fajitas. Just says one pack so no idea how that would compare with your lunch.

Hulababy · 26/03/2004 21:13

1 medium flour tortilla = 2 points each

Most of the chicken coating will be point free as mainly spices and stuff like that

Need to include chicken and oil for cooking though:
1 medium skinless chicken breat = 2.5 points

A bit of oil = 0.5-1 point

Should be able to work it out from that

marthamoo · 26/03/2004 21:19

I had Sainbury's Be Good to Yourself chicken fajitas for dinner, that was 6 points. I usually make them myself but my recipe (4 each!!) comes to 12 points. Mine are nicer though.

Demented · 26/03/2004 21:29

Thanks Allegra and Hulababy. I think I'll say 10 points, there was some sour cream, cheese, salsa and a mayo dip with it too (although I concentrated mostly on the salsa, not too bad I suppose.

Hulababy · 26/03/2004 21:31

Salasa is mainly tomato based so not bad at all. Unfortunately the sour cream, cheese and mayo are not so good

Demented · 26/03/2004 21:32

Thanks Marthamoo, didn't see your post, that's what I get for trying to buy something on e-Bay at the same time as posting on MN, 10 could be right then, or perhaps a slight over-estimate.

Lisa78 · 26/03/2004 22:37

anyone - like me - constantly craving chocolate / sugar fix? Cadbury's highlights is one point a cup and tastes really smooth and chocolatey
