Welcome to thread 13 of the Paul McKenna's I Can Make You Thin weight loss system.

The Golden Rules that will aid you on your journey with our like minded friendly support system are:

1. Eat what you WANT
2. Eat when you are HUNGRY
3. Eat CONSCIOUSLY
4. STOP eating when you are satisfied and full

This weight loss system is about re-educating your body; learning to listen to it and in doing so losing weight and inches. After all, eating a meal is not a competition, it's about enjoying what you are putting into your mouth, but not feeling bloated and uncomfortable (or guilty) afterwards!
Many people have issues around food. Many of us have been brought up by the 'clear your plate' parents of yesteryear which leave us feeling guilty if we leave even the smallest morsel of food, but we are working through this guilt or any other hang up we may have, and we are learning to leave a bit on the plate; return to it another time if we really want to or even feed it to the dog or the bin!
So!! forget diets; they may work for a while, but they aren't permanent solutions. This is a new way of living for your brand new life!! Let's get lighter for those Christmas outfits!!

The Paul McKenna system really works and is easy to maintain.

I've C&P'd our previous threads links as they are helpful.

Here are the book choices on AMAZON which is all you need to get started! they aren't compulsory, but they do help! it's something to refer to and listening to the cd's can really focus you.

This is the tapping technique EXPLAINED - this can be useful to combat cravings.

You don't have to buy the book and CD, but we have found that they do help and somehow they keep you on track, so it would probably be a good investment and will cost you far less than a couple of trips to WW or SW meetings, so do consider having them in your life.

Please feel free to join us, whether it's 10lbs or 10 stones you want to lose.
We are friendly, supportive and successful, but we're not hungry and that is a great way to feel when you are dropping dress sizes at the same time!!! so come on in and start living your new life today and make 2013 your year to drop a dress size or several...if we can get those lbs off a few at a time, just think how we could look and feel for Christmas and The New Year!!!
Some of our thread members are also doing PMK's Virtual Gastric Band and although this thread is not about this avenue, we will still be supportive of our friends partaking of this, so don't think we wont be there for you. I'm pretty sure that the Golden Rules will be just as helpful in this process as the I Can Make You Thin process :) so get stuck in :)

Bonnie152 · 13/12/2013 07:06

Thank you for the kind words everyone, I really do appreciate it.

Milly I'll probably have to put childminding on hold for now and try to find another job. Never mind, these things happen I suppose.

My job for today is to find things to put on eBay to make some extra money.

Holding to keep up with PM again today! Well done to everyone else, sounds like you're all doing so well.

It's so nice to be looking forward to delicious christmas food isn't it? Usually I'd be either dreading it and thinking 'can't have this or that' etc or I'd be diving in and overeating for the whole festive period only to feel terrible by January. Won't happen this year! Grin

OComeAllYeFaithFul · 13/12/2013 08:51

Sorry to hear about your DH's job and putting the child minding on hold. I hope things pan out in time.

I know what you mean about looking forward to Christmas. I think the key for me will be making sure I'm eating when I'm hungry, so many snacky foods around that you can eat mindlessly!

I am so pleased with myself this morning. The last two days I've worked hard to eat mindfully and chew. This morning I woke up and really wanted biscuits. Now the only GF biscuits in the house are going in a hamper for my friend who is coeliac for Christmas. I was all for stealing them and replacing them...but I heard myself saying But I want them!. Want them, emotional hunger...so I got a drink and waited for breakfast when I felt genuinely hungry. Yay!

Jinglebeans456 · 13/12/2013 18:51

Hi all
Solo - yes well spotted typo error, that was supposed to read January lol. Not doing too good over last couple of days. Mindless and emotional eating going on.

Need little one to get to nursery so I can have a break. How do people manage with more than one child. Haven't got my gym on Fridays now as crèche is being refurbished. Will be going back though in January.

So looking forward to January, more so than Christmas. As nursery and gym starts in January :)

NoGoodAtWittyNames · 14/12/2013 06:01

I'm randomly awake but don't want to leave my nice cosy bed, so thought I'd sneak on here instead.

Hope the ebaying went well Bonnie and DH has some luck with the job search.

Faith well done on getting back in the zone, I think it's often tempting at this time of year just to leave it til the new year (classic dieting mentality) further proof how fantastic this WOE is. I really like your point about want vs need. I'm definitely going to be using that.

Jelly have you tried tapping? It's been a complete revelation for me and really putting me back in control when it comes to emotional eating. I came on yesterday and normally would have been inhaling chocolate over the last few days, but this time can't remember the last time I had any (very unlike me!). Last night at work a craving struck but couldn't tap straight away (didn't want to freak out the customers) and even the thought of tapping made the craving go away. At this rate I may well be turning into one of those weirdos who never eats chocolate! Don't lose heart, you can do this Xmas Smile

Jinglebeans456 · 14/12/2013 09:50

Thanks NoGood

I have to keep practising the tapping until I know it by heart. Might write steps briefly on cue cards, and keep them on me. Not always convenient to watch a video or get book out.

Well done Faith on beating that emotional moment. I'll need to copy you too. Unfortunately I am eating too much chocolate. Even having stacks indoors does'nt help the the odd occasions. Suppose just need to keep to the tapping.

Regarding the tapping I used it years ago when I had hypnosis to stop smoking ( which worked). And I was also told to use the technique in negative situations to calm me down. I can remember tapping in the toilet at work where nobody could see me, and it really worked in calming me down. had it written on cue cards then.

So if you are somewhere awkward, just go to the toilet and tap in there.

Have a mindful, concious, chewing day everyone!

Jinglebeans456 · 15/12/2013 09:35

Morning all

Felt crap yesterday. Been eating too much junk lately, and had migraine, as think blood sugars was out of sorts. Today I'm going to cut out the crap, I.e the sugary, empty foods with rubbish in them and aim to eat things which are nutritious and healthy.

I suppose that's one thing I can say about PM, that if you're not careful you could quite easily live off junk food, which can't be good for you, and leave you feeling ill.

So this morning I had porridge, which was a nice change. And have been using the tapping technique, on and off, when thinking of food. Have written out the tapping technique in shortform, as easier to do when needed.

Will have a balanced meal later, with chicken, veg and rice when hungry, and tap anything else away in between. Lots of water and tea today me thinks:)

SoloXantiaClaws · 15/12/2013 11:03

Sounds good Jinglebeans :)

I never remember to tap. I really should though...

NoGoodAtWittyNames · 15/12/2013 15:47

Jelly don't beat yourself up, sometimes when you're coming out of diet mentality and getting into this new WOE I think its natural for your body to go crazy for all the things you've deprived yourself of for so long. Just keep listening to what your body really wants and you'll probably find you're naturally making healthy choices. Remember one of PMs g

NoGoodAtWittyNames · 15/12/2013 15:53

Sorry posted too soon!

One of PMs golden rules is to eat what you want not what you think you should. But it's what your body really wants not what your mind wants, like Faith pointed out earlier want = craving. I used to be a complete chocoholic and I haven't had any now for over a week as whenever I've fancied it it's always been an emotional craving not because I was genuinely hungry for it.

OComeAllYeFaithFul · 15/12/2013 19:39

Ah jingle we've all been there (too much junk! But I get migraines too). At least you've recognised it and you chose to start again. I know what you mean about living off junk but I think if you really get to the roots of your food desires you will want a balanced diet.

I'm generally doing ok since refocusing. Did overeat at tea and felt bleurgh so I drank some peppermint tea and feel better now :)

BlodynTatws · 16/12/2013 12:19

Faithand NotGood make a lot of sense. If you start labelling food as " junk" then it becomes bad and forbidden and then binge food. It's true for me that once I got used to accepting all foods ad equal the biscuits and chocolate no longer had any extra allure for me. Smile

BlodynTatws · 16/12/2013 12:21

The minute I decide to not eat them to try and lose weight then they take on a life of their own.

Jinglebeans456 · 16/12/2013 13:34

I won't stop them, but I know I've eaten too much of them, and they made me feel ill.

Went out for a carvery yesterday, and this time had a normal size plate, and just loaded plate with what I fancied.

Amazingly, halfway through I had an unmistakeable signal that I was full, and that it was time to stop eating. Left loads on the plate. I don't normally have this feeling, and am now actually wondering if I eat enough food when I'm hungry?

Maybe because I am not eating enough, this leads me to want to snack and graze, and hardly ever get that full feeling.

BlodynTatws · 16/12/2013 14:57

I think snacking and grazing definitely spoils the delicious OMG I'm hungry and have to eat now.....feeling. I can be guilty of that. Smile

Jinglebeans456 · 17/12/2013 15:08

Not a good day for me. Just bumped into a friend whilst out shopping. Not seen her about a month. Her first words to me was ' you've put on weight? Are you expecting?

She was then beside herself, and kept saying sorry, when I told her that I had put on weight but was'nt expecting.

She's a nice girl, and was just being honest.

Now I am beside myself, and want to come off PM, as I don't think it's right for me. I think I have more control when I am dieting.

But just so confused now about the whole thing, and don't know what to do.

I do know that I don't want to get bigger! :(

MillyChristmas · 17/12/2013 21:03

Did you put the weight on before PMing.?

Jinglebeans456 · 17/12/2013 22:08

No, the weight has come on since PM ing. Before PM I lost 2 and a half, nearly 3 stone over a period of 6 months.

So the last time she saw me I was at my lightest, and of normal BMI weight.

NoGoodAtWittyNames · 17/12/2013 22:32

Oh Jingle I really feel for you. The thing is you're never going to stick to a diet at this time of year. Why don't you give yourself a few more weeks of PMing and really focus on following the 4 rules (don't second guess yourself and don't think about what you should be doing just follow your natural instincts). And then if you're still not happy and feel you'd be better off on a diet then go for it. IMO part of the appeal of diets is that you don't have to trust yourself, you just follow someone else's rules, whereas with PM it's about you trusting yourself and taking control of your eating habits, this can feel scary but I honestly believe its worth it, but you've got to do what feels right for you.

Jinglebeans456 · 17/12/2013 22:42

Thanks NoGood, will do that x

SoloXantiaClaws · 17/12/2013 23:00

Oh Jelly :( how awful...
I strongly believe that diets control us and not the other way round.
Can I ask you why or in what way you feel that the PMK has lead to weight gain? IYSWIM.

NoGood is right; hang on in there. Try to get to grips with the rules.

I was one of the lucky ones that went to the seminar and the way I felt about food and myself was nothing short of miraculous afterwards.

The thing I found that helped to really kickstart my weight loss was the mirror exercises. Admiring something about my naked body in the mirror. It was bloody hard to do at first, but quickly became easier to do. I started off with "Nice tits" Blush and I never use 'tits' for breasts, so it was something laughable to me. After a short time, it got easier to see good bits about my body and then I started to lose the weight. Haven't done it for ages actually and I'm going to go for it again :)

Shame we can't have an in person meeting now and again to add credence to our journey together.

Heads up ladies. We can do this. Really, we can!!

MillyChristmas · 18/12/2013 02:04

Jingle, if you lost all that weight on a diet how come you stopped the diet? What made you decide to do PM? Even if you hadn't done PM after losing all that weight you probably would have regained it anyway as most people do after eating so restrictively. I do understand how you feel though and the allure of the diet is always close by BUT (and please don't think im being horrible) PM has not forced you to overeat food. You must have overeaten quiet a bit to have regained all that weight. You may think your doing this properly but if you have a good think about it.....are you eating only when hungry and stopping when you feel satisfied. I have restarted in the last two weeks and I have been listening to cd every day and im back in the zone and really eating very little cause im satisfied after very little. It is quite an eye opener because although I do PM I couldn't work out why I wasn't losing. Now I know why......I was still overeating and not really concentrating.
Do you remember I said to you that PM is just your own body telling you how many calories it requires by tuning into your hunger? Its the same for diets only with them you agree by an outside force that you will have maybe 1500 cals and then you start eating things low in fat and cals so that you don't overeat. With PM you take back control. By really tuning into your true hunger you eat less and therefore take in less calories. Does that make sense? I know its hard to put it into practice but could you try again. Would it help if you or all of us posted our menus each day? Maybe no one would want to but just thought I would through it out there.

MillyChristmas · 18/12/2013 07:52

throw!!!!!! Grrrr.

Jinglebeans456 · 18/12/2013 11:49

Thanks Solo, Milly and NoGood for all your support. I can't put down what I'm doing wrong to one thing.

There seems to be lots. I constantly think of food all day, especially choc, biscuits, bread. I don't think that I am consciously reading my body signals all the time. I think of the food that I'm eating while eating it, sini'm being mindful and also eating slowly.

Last night I have started re reading Dr John Biffa ' the diet trap', which is a good book. He also advocates ditching diets, but amazingly talks well of intermittent fasting for the health benefits. But again he advises caution when doing this.

From reading this I have decided that I will eat my meals between 12 and 8pm, so I have a 16 hr fasting window, to gain the health benefits with weight loss.

I have noticed that I don't normally feel hungry in the morning anyway. And I know you're not supposed to have rules by PM's standards, but would like to do this rule, to also have some control around my eating at the moment.

I seem to have got into a pattern of having regular breakfast in the morning when not hungry.

Just reading over all this, it's sounds like a jumble, but I'm trying to sort myself out and not put on more weight.

Sound good Milly re writing out what we've had. Mine today:

10.30- bit of buffet from my daughters Xmas pre nursery party this morning.

11.30- 2 slices toast and marmalade and caffe latte.

Have to start the eating from 12 tomorrow.

MillyChristmas · 18/12/2013 12:51

Jingle in my opinion fasting is the route to bingeing. If you read the 5:2 threads there are so many women asking how to avoid bingeing.Sad
The fasting approach works basically on just lowering your calorie intake. It's another diet in disguise. John Briffa says carbohydrates are evil basically and with him you eat low carb so another diet Sad . The supposed health benefits for fasting are the same benefits touted for every other diet. There ate no quick fixes. I do understand how your feeling however the only way we gain weight is by overeating in my opinion and I am guilty at times of misjudging the amount I eat and of eating when not hungry. I'm doing better at the moment though.Smile
