New week, new thread - let's fill it with positive attitude and lots of support.

Well done us! And especially to FioFio - blimey - very impressiveGrin. Someone asked me if I'd lost weight yesterday, and said my face looked younger. Not sure it actually shows (think she was just being nice), but flattering to be asked anyway! 'Confessed' to DH last night about the BigMoFos, and he was impressed too. Think he'd be keen to lose a bit of weight, although his body's not particularly large, he seems to put it all on on his neckGrin. He had cheekbones to die for when I met him. Not now (not that it matters, but YKWIM). I love cheekbones, and aim to have some myself some dayGrin.

WigWamBam · 15/06/2006 11:14

Funny you should say that because someone asked me yesterday if I'd lost weight too. I'm pretty sure you can't really see it yet but she seemed adamant that you can.

The minute I told dh about the BigMoFos he started bringing me treats ... I don't know why he does it but he always does. He says it's because even on a diet there should always be room for a treat otherwise you'd go mad, which I agree with, but it strikes me that he's actually (maybe subconsciously?) trying to sabotage my diet. I don't find it easy to turn treats down though which is not good for me at all!

Somanykiddies · 15/06/2006 11:23

Big well done to anyone who has lost any weight. Starting diet today, got 2 stone 4lbs to get to my 'ideal', unfortunately I have a serious lack of motivation and will power (totally with you on the turning down treat bit WWB) so I admire anyone with the determination!

JackieNo · 15/06/2006 11:33

No - I can't turn down treats eitherSad. DH did say that if we could find a way for him to take DS to nursery (just a car seats problems really), I could walk DD all the way to school (and back) instead of a little part of the way. He reckons that doing that has helped his fitness over the last few weeks. Time's just too tight for me to do it, then get DS to nursery and then get to work in time, so I haven't managed it. And I do need to get some exercise. Nice that he's trying to help. WWB - maybe he does subconsciously feel a bit threatened by your weight loss. Can't believe I've lost almost a stoneGrin. It's all down to you lot, you know. I've practically never dieted in my entire life. Did do Weight Watchers for a few weeks when I was 20, but was at uni, and had to go off to do my year teaching in Germany. My first go at living entirely by myself (had been in halls at uni till then) plus in a new country with loads of new things to try - any idea of dieting soon fell by the wayside. Still a sucker for trying new things - when we go round the supermarket it's always me who does the 'Ooh look - new [biscuits, chocolate, puds, flavour of ice cream, whatever] let's try it' thing. Especially if there are trial sizesGrin.

JackieNo · 15/06/2006 11:34

Sorry - I did go on a bit there, didn't I.

Somanykiddies · 15/06/2006 11:36

JackieNo, spill the beans, which diet are you on?

JackieNo · 15/06/2006 11:42

No diet in particular, somanykiddies! I'm just trying to eat much smaller portions of stuff, and have healthier snacks rather than the 2 bars of chocolate (one for elevenses, one after lunch)Blush that I used to have. I can't face trying to cater for myself separately, so this seemed like the best way. But I'm not actually saying 'I will not eat chocolate' or whatever, as I know that would be fatal. It's working so farGrin.

Somanykiddies · 15/06/2006 11:45

Sounds good to me, how long has it taken to lose a stone?

WigWamBam · 15/06/2006 11:46

I'm looking forward to putting up a message next week saying that you've lost a stone ... that'll give us all something to be positive about - and something to aim for too!

OP posts:
Fauve · 15/06/2006 11:47

Congratulations, everyone, especially FioFio Smile Re treats given by dhs, I've often thought that the absolute best thing my dh could do would be to prepare really yummy salads, fruit salads and crudites for me, because they're such a pain to prepare, and cost such a lot if you buy the pre-packed ones. And sometimes you just forget to buy lots of fruit, etc, or are put off by the price. I don't suppose your dh would do that, would he, WWB?

Thinking about it, I might actually rope in dd to do a bit of that for me. She's currently my best ally in the fitness stakes, although I'm careful not to call it weight loss for fear of her getting anorexic thoughts in her head.

JackieNo · 15/06/2006 11:51

Well somanykiddies, it's taken the 6 weeks that these threads have been goingSmile - I guess it will slow down, too, so the next stone will probably take longer. Yes, WWB - something to aim forGrin (sod's law says I don't lose or put on this week).

WigWamBam · 15/06/2006 11:53

Fauve, the house is always full of fruit so I don't think dh thinks of it as a treat. The day after I told him about BigMoFos he was at Cadburys in Bournville - he's there a lot, never bothers with the staff shop normally - but that day he came back with the biggest tin of Miniature Heroes I've ever seen, plus several bags of chocolate buttons and three bars of Green and Black's white chocolate.

These are not the actions of a man who wants his wife to lose weight, are they!!

OP posts:
Somanykiddies · 15/06/2006 11:53

Keep at it, it's obviously working for you, well done.

Fauve · 15/06/2006 12:01

I would be furious, I really would. But they are often so thick about what helps and what doesn't, aren't they? Can't he buy you some fab jewellery then, or flowers???

JackieNo · 15/06/2006 12:02

Oh no WWB - so much temptationSad Angry. Can you ask him outright not to buy stuff like that? Or just to buy you something really good quality, but really small: "From now on, DH, I will only be eating Charbonnel and Walker chocolates"?

WigWamBam · 15/06/2006 12:07

Oh, fab jewellery ... I can only dream!

I've asked him not to get stuff like that in. He does the food shopping, and he's been picking up stuff we wouldn't normally even think about having - chocolate puddings, enormous pizzas and stuff like that. I don't mind if he buys himself one, but I can't resist stuff like that if he buys two.

Although dd got the chocolate pudding ... I felt very virtuous!

Fauve · 15/06/2006 12:10

He's had bad tuition from his mum, though, hasn't he, I seem to remember from other threads Grin I intend to give my son serious, formal tutoring in How to Please a Woman with Suitable Gifts.

WigWamBam · 15/06/2006 12:22

Oh yes ... he gets his present-buying ability from his mother ... do you know, his first Valentine's Day present to me was a torch for my car. I should have known what to expect right from the start, really.

Although maybe his mother had the right idea ... you can't eat elastic.

OP posts:
Fauve · 15/06/2006 12:25

Even men can change, though, WWB...Hope springs eternal...

WigWamBam · 15/06/2006 12:30

Nah, he's too old to change now ... if I was going to change him I should have done it 16 years ago when we first got together and I realised how crap he was with presents!

It just strikes me as odd that he would start doing this as soon as he finds out I'm dieting again. He says he wants to help and support me, and he understands why I want to do it ... but then goes off and buys things that make me put weight on just by sniffing them.

OP posts:
dublindee · 15/06/2006 12:54

Am feeling a bit better after reading sue's reply.

HAdn't thought about wht I'd be weighing if I hadn't started and I suppose it could have been a heck of a lot worse.

Nicely done Fiofio, can't wait for that to be me a stone lighter Wink

Anyway my incentive is I have 101 weeks to my fab wedding so I need to be getting my ass in gear to be a skinny minnie.

JackieNo · 15/06/2006 13:05

Hey Dublindee - that really is something to give you some motivationGrin. Have you started looking at dresses yet?

JackieNo · 15/06/2006 13:14

Just remembered (how could I forget?) that DH and I are going out for dinner tomorrow night, \link{http://www.malmaison-oxford.com/main.asp\here}[grin]. He was in India for 2 weeks, but including 3 weekends, earlier in the year, so his work are paying - and are prepared to pay a lot! I might have to have champagneGrin. But might also not lose much weight for next weekSad. But it's a price worth paying. I will try to think about what I'm eating, though.

suejonez · 15/06/2006 13:30

DD - so glad what I said made you feel better - am feeling really pleased with myself now. Nice to cheer someone up isn't it - makes you feel better about yourself.

And on that note, I have got bored with moaning about what terrible self esteem I have and have decided on a new approach this week. This diet is not about vanity, its about health (paraphrasing WWB). I'm carrying my own weight and that of my evil twin (the one who eats) at the moment, literally I'm the weight of two women!

What I look like doesn't matter, big or small, thats a separate issue I have to deal with. This is just about living longer and healthier. I reckon I could easily live an extra 20 years at a "normal" BMI than my current BMI which roughly speaking makes each half stone worth a year of my life. So for every couple of pounds I lose, I reckon that I've potentially added a month to my life expectancy.
I'm feeling much more positive today - can you tell? Grin

And going out on an MN meet up tonight [scared emoticon] but have cut back on lunch to "pay" for it. I don't want to give up any "life expectancy" just to meet able to meet some people and have a chat. Concentrates the mind a bit!

suejonez · 15/06/2006 13:31

Have a lovely time Jackie - champagne is one of thelower cal drinks from what I remember so go wild on that and lovely things are also lower cal - like wild smoked salmon! Enjoy.
