Make me shred

FrancesDeLaTourCoughngIntoABin · 01/08/2013 07:53

The table is pulled out of the way. The jingly music is playing. Jillian is grinning at me and waiting to introduce me to her "two best girls helping us out". But I cannot bring myself to press play.
I did so well last week, a full week of shredding and watching what I eat. This week, Mr Motivation has left the building. I've already hada a square of chocolate.

Well done shreddies I'm very impressed with everyone's efforts the support on here is fab. I'm a bit frustrated as I've missed 3 days and can't wait to get back on it. I'm currently in the car driving to in laws so the earliest I can see me getting back on it is Tuesday. We'll have done close on 400 miles in the last 3 days so feel like we are always travelling at the moment.

I might see if I can do some weights later tonight just don't fancy doing star jumps with the in laws downstairs lest they think an elephant is pounding on the ceiling!!

Keep going everyone I can't wait to recapture my 'exercise high'.

Oops twice!

SneezySnatcher · 11/08/2013 18:26

bionic it's so frustrating when you want to exercise but can't! I think weights sounds like a good idea. The benefit of the repetitiveness of the shred is that, even if you can't get to a TV, you can do a rough approximation of it from memory!

TwentyTinyToes · 11/08/2013 19:38

Hey all, well done to those that have shredded today and hope those that want to, manage to shred soon.

I have had a rest day today, we have had a houseful all day so have not managed to fit it in. Have kind of missed it Confused most unlike me. I have walked for about 3 hours though so that should just about cancel out the fish and chip lunch and enormous piece of cake with cream i have eaten today! Never mind, i eat sensibly in the week so a treat is fine at the weekend (so i tell myself anyway).

Good luck everyone, see you all back here tomorrow.

IcedCoffeeQueen · 11/08/2013 19:50

Hi everyone well done on everyone still shredding!

foots still sore :( been wearing a support bandage today, it has eased some but still uncomfortable, that's 2 days off I've had and REALLY hoping to do something tomorrow, diet been terrible today again too sadly.

wallpaperaddict · 11/08/2013 20:40

Hello everyone! Nice to see everyone reporting in, whether they've managed to shred or not! Great that we are here supporting each other!
I am really beginning to feel the effects of L2 this evening! I am kinda hoping my cycling had helped to keep loose, but my transverse abs-the "pooch" as Jillian calls it, is feeling very achey!
This week I'm busy with days out and family so may be shredding earlier in the morning, but I'll still be dropping by to see how everyone's getting on!

bionic some weights work sounds like a good compromise!
iced sorry your foot is still sore. Perhaps you could just do some ab work, chest flys etc until you're fit again?
twenty your lunch sounded delicious! Very jealous Envy Grin
See you all tomorrow!

IcedCoffeeQueen · 11/08/2013 20:44

yep I will definitely be doing something tomorrow, will see how I go

lifesgreatquestions · 11/08/2013 22:05

Hi, can I join you? I gained two stone last year and have only recently decided to do something about it. I'm on day 1 of level two. I'm sore and have hurt my Achilles tendon but I'm pressing on. I do it first thing 6:30 or 7. At first I was eating a lot of crap, my basic diet is good but I like chocolate and was having too much. I've managed to go two days without it and am thinking of doing a one day on one day off approach to chocolate. What do you guys think?

RippingYarns · 11/08/2013 22:17

Hello and welcome!

If you're in pain other than aching afterwards I wonder if you should get over the injury before continuing? While not trying to put pressure on your bad ankle you could overwork another part of your body and end up hurting that too.

Cutting out the chocolate has to help though, good to see you here :)

wallpaperaddict · 11/08/2013 22:18

Hi lifesgreatquestions and welcome to our little shredding support group! I completed Day 1 of L2 this morning, boy am I feeling it tonight!
Regarding your chocolate question, I'm not sure I'm much help as I'm not really a fan of chocolate, I can go a month without even thinking about it. I'd say that one day on, one day off seems a good start though, over a week it's halving the amount! I guess that's ok as long as you eat well the rest of the time!

TwentyTinyToes · 12/08/2013 06:13

Hi lifesgreatquestions and welcome. I echo the comment about injury, i think i would rest it until it felt better because i would be worried about hurting something else. With regard to the chocolate question, i have cut out all sweet stuff and crisps Monday to Friday and i have stopped snacking between meals. At the weekends i have a treat or two. I feel this is more realistic than not eating it at all.

Right, back on it this morning, sort of looking forward to it. Good luck everyone!

TwentyTinyToes · 12/08/2013 07:35

L1day 6 competed, definitely easier today.

lifesgreatquestions · 12/08/2013 08:22

Thanks for the welcome! As for my Achilles heel, I did rest it all day yesterday, between that and my knees I was hobbling but resting all day helped and things were much improved when I woke up this morning. l2d2! Thanks for your comments about diet. I think my diet is fairly regular but I think I'm going to concentrate on meal times, and keep a record of what I eat, I did that for the first time yesterday and it helped with the end of day cravings! Twenty I certainly found things easier by day 6 and it was nice to have those few days before L2 of feeling stronger before moving up and struggling again.

RippingYarns · 12/08/2013 08:48

Glad your heel is better, life and we'll done to you and twenty for getting today's session in already!

Has anyone got any suggestions for gentle neck strengthening exercises? It's always been my weak point, and although going through L1 with 1.5kg weights is fine for me, I'd like to do some work in anticipation of L2 :)

lifesgreatquestions · 12/08/2013 09:51

Thanks Ripping, I was relieved when I got up this morning and it wasn't so uncomfortable. I did have it on a hot water bottle most of the day yesterday! I've got another easy day today so am hoping will be back to normal by tomorrow minus the resulting discomfort from shredding at a new level! (btw injury was from long walk not shred!)

Have you done the shred before and know what to anticipate? I feel it much more in my upper body, (hell, all over really) but it's working the upper body more than L1 did. I don't have any suggestions but it's good you're planning for it.

FrancesDeLaTourCoughngIntoABin · 12/08/2013 10:52

Hi everyone!
Iced, so sorry to hear your foot is still injured :(
Welcome lifes! I too am addicted to chocolate and your idea sounds really good actually. I've given up chocolate before but the idea of a life without chocolate actually depresses me (no using the words "addicted" and "depresses" lightly btw). I'd definitely be up for that - can we coordinate? Only thing is, if you planned to start today, I've...ahem...already had 15g. Blush

bionic, my arms are my weakest point and I've been trying to build them up. One thing I've started doing is arm raises in the corner of the kitchen where two workbenches meet iyswim. So support your entire weight with your arms almost straight and then slowly lower and raise. Can be done in any kitchen and I really feel it the next day when I''ve done ten :o

On another issue, is anyone also calorie counting? I made some lentil soup this morning and all the ones I can find on MFP say that one serving is about 150 cals Shock. That can't be right surely? I've logged all my food for the day and it totals under 500 cals! That includes the 3 squares of chocolate and the single haribo heart. I am such a willpowerless child.

Morning Fellow Shredders. Day 7 of Level 1 complete despite a multitude of interruptions! For some reason, I really felt the muscles in my shoulder blades after yesterday's session .... must have pushed myself harder than usual!

Iced - sorry your foot isn't much improved. Hope the rest will help quickly.
Life - chocolate is my weak point too. Haven't lost anything on the scales but I'm 5'7" and 133lbs so don't think I need to. However, I really really need to lose my tummy, tone and strengthen and improve my cardiovascular fitness. Big sighs cos I don't enjoy exercise! Grin
Frances - my arms are weak too. I'll try your exercise, it sounds great.
Bionic - enjoy your trip. You'll be no time getting back into it.

I know I've missed some people - sorry and Hi!!

FrancesDeLaTourCoughngIntoABin · 12/08/2013 11:21

Well done MrsM :o

Morning everyone! Well done to all those who have shredded this morning. I completed L2D2, felt more at ease today as I knew what to expect but it is still so hard! Anyone else finding themselves really hungry since starting the shred?! I'm trying so hard to not eat junk, have protein with meals and only fruit or water between meals. It's counterproductive to start eating more though!

lifesgreatquestions · 12/08/2013 12:37

Frances I've had two chocolate free days so could have some today for the sake of having some support! (not because I want itBlush) And I am calorie counting, I just started yesterday. Your 500 calorie 1st half to the day sounds like a good start!

MrsM, you're the size I should be (same height). I remember having a tummy then, now I think surely I just needed to tone it rather than lose it? My tummy is firmer now on day 12 then it ever was when I was your size! All those crunches you're doing will add up, and they get harder in L2.

Hey *Wallpaper", we're at the same point in the 30 day shred. Those things where you go from standing to walk it out to a plank into press ups is a killer. And I have to do the easiest parts of all the plank exercises, what's the worst thing for you?

As the morning has worn on, having shredded 5 hours ago, my upper back, lower neck and shoulders are really settling into some aching, I struggle a bit to pull up my leggings!

FrancesDeLaTourCoughngIntoABin · 12/08/2013 12:42

If you can avoid chocolate today, do so! I will start with my first day off tomorrow

Sirzy · 12/08/2013 15:14

I am using the "lots to lose" thread to get me through the diet, so I think I need this one to help me keep going with the shred. I am determined to get to 30 days - only on day 2 so far!

SybilRamkin · 12/08/2013 15:22

Greetings fellow Shredders! I've just started doing this, I'm on day 4. It's a killer, but hoping to get some good results.

wallpaperaddict · 12/08/2013 15:49

Hi to sirzy and sybil and welcome!

Hey life those plank to situps were a killer today, but the plank jacks take the Biscuit! I am trying to follow Natalie where I can but I find myself reverting from time to time to following Anita! Its either that or pass out!!!!
