Welcome to thread 12 of the Paul McKenna's I Can Make You Thin weight loss system.

The Golden Rules that will aid you on your journey with our like minded support system are:

1. Eat what you WANT
2. Eat when you are HUNGRY
3. Eat CONSCIOUSLY
4. STOP eating when you are satisfied and full

This weight loss system is about re-educating your body; learning to listen to it and in doing so losing weight and inches. After all, eating a meal is not a competition, it's about enjoying what you are putting in your mouth, but not feeling bloated and uncomfortable (or guilty) afterwards!
Many people have issues around food. Many of us have been brought up by the 'clear your plate' parents of yesteryear which leave us feeling guilty if we leave even the smallest morsel of food, but we are working through this guilt or any other hang up we may have, and we are learning to leave a bit on the plate; return to it another time if we really want to or even feed it to the dog or the bin!
So!! forget diets; they may work for a while, but they aren't permanent solutions. This is a new way of living for your brand new life!! Let's get lighter for those summer clothes!

The Paul McKenna system really works and is easy to maintain.

I've C&P'd our previous threads links as they are helpful.

Here are the book choices on AMAZON which is all you need to get started! they aren't compulsory, but they do help! it's something to refer to and listening to the cd's can really focus you.

This is the tapping technique EXPLAINED - this can be useful to combat cravings.

You don't have to buy the book and CD, but we have found that they do help and somehow they keep you on track, so it would probably be a good investment and will cost you far less than a couple of trips to WW or SW meetings, so do consider having them in your life.

Please feel free to join us, whether it's 10lbs or 10 stones you want to lose.
We are friendly, supportive and successful, but we're not hungry ~ NO we're not!!! so come on in and start living your new life today and make 2013 your year to drop a dress size or several...if we can get into a smaller size for summer, just think how we could look for next Christmas!

rules i rethought my answer, because i never actually answered what you asked! WRT crisps & chocolate, i do finish them & would probably have had more if the bag was bigger LOL! i get multipacks & the bags are 25g like in the old days, no all these "grab bag" ridiculously oversized (no wonder our nation's getting fatter, USA started it with free refills & "go large" portions & look what's happened there. we're following suit, but appear to be too dim to notice the pattern). if i buy big kettle chips i'll dish some out into a ramikin (ooh aren't i posh!) so i don't go mindless & eat the lot without noticing: if i've got less i'll savour them more. it sounds like i'm limiting myself doesn't it? but if i'm more than a little hungry i don't want crisps & choc cos it's no enough i want real food IYSWIM. it's only ever to fill a little hole, but quite often ATM.
i thought back to when i was thin, & realised i actually ate crap more because i couldny cook, we had usual breakfast cereal, sarnie or toastie for lunch (no salad) & like chicken or pie & chips out the freezer with frozen veg for tea, & i never snacked. totally different pattern of eating. so maybe that's why i thought i didny have it much, because it was "normal" everyday food then. it's the chocolate & biscuits i didny touch, chocolate only with PMS! but when i call it "crap", it's because i'm better educated about what's in convenience food, & a lot of it seems to be pumped full of sugar & fat that isny necessary if you make it fe scratch IYSWIM. so through my long-windedness, does any of this make sense? Hmm i appear to be eating more healthily, yet my fat body is more unhealthy!!? Shock

Trouble is that as you get older your metabolism drops each year so what you could eat when you were younger, you cannot eat as much as you get older and actually you don't want to eat as much. Older people tend to eat very little from what I have observed. Im not sure if its the bigger portions that have made Americans fat. I think its the outfall of the so called "low fat" era that said that you could eat more of something because its low fat so people ate twice the amount. I would give people more intelligence than to think that just because they have a bigger portion that they need to eat it. Its once again that old diet mentality that has made them over eat, and most of what they eat are carbs which causes huge problems when the entire diet or a large portion of it is in the form of carbs (refined processed carbs mainly) which to me is to blame for a lot of illnesses and insulin resistance and diabetes and obesity.

Rules · 06/08/2013 22:14

Not that I am saying that there is anything wrong with carbs on the whole just that the overeating of them as in America has caused an epidemic of obesity.

Hello, I am considering joining you lot on your weight loss journey. But I think I need a bit of convincing that this can actually work for me, I don't see how you can lose weight this way somehow? Maybe I am just a bit too skeptical for my own good.

I am an emotional eater and have gained about 20kg this year. Moved across country for a job, lost a job, started teacher training and commuted up to 3 hours each way while doing 10-12 hour working days. I realised I was gaining weight quickly and tried to do something but in the end I couldn't. A lack of sleep, no time at home, dinners at 10pm and breakfasts on the go (love Sainsbury chocolate croissants...) helped me to gain most of this weight within the last four months.

I am starting my first job this September before which I want to move and get settled somewhere new. DP will be back at university and busy and we will be living off little money unfortunately. So I won't have much time or money to follow proper diet regimes and eat expensive foods.

I would love to change my attitude to food and to lose weight by actually doing the right thing if that makes sense. Right now I am a bottomless pit. I can eat whole packs of sweets, slowly went up from eating two croissants to three for breakfast during school placement etc. It just needs to STOP and I need to readjust. I am now easily out of breath, don't fit into any clothes (and too skint to buy more) and am getting stretch marks all over. While only being in my early twenties :( I am worried I won't have enough self control to actually do it though.

Did you guys really not struggle to not eat crap food and have a second serving etc? I just can't see how it works somehow.

QueenOfHalloween · 06/08/2013 22:42

Rules I've not listened to the other GB trance yet. Tbh i'm a little nervous about it, so for this week i'm going to listen to ICMYT CD and be mindful of the 4 rules. I managed 3 of them really well today but failed on the not eating in front of the tv. My dinner table is covered in a layer of rubbish that i need to sort out and my partner wanted to watch TV whilst we ate. So i tried to drown out the telly and looked at my plate rather than the tv. Depending on how i do this week i may install the GB next week.

KeepTheFaithBaby · 06/08/2013 22:49

Argh wifi dropped out and I lost a post! Anyway jilt of it was - berry I agree about portion sizes. I'm much better at mindful eating with kettle chips etc if I put them in a pot. It's on the sofa in front of the tv with a big bag that's fatal for me.

I am doing ok - exercise is going well! I've been doing c25k and have managed 5 runs in 10 days. I am eat

KeepTheFaithBaby · 06/08/2013 22:50

Eating way too much sugar though so will try tapping tomorrow.

beans welcome. I'll answer your queries in the morning when I have more brain activity! :)

Rules · 07/08/2013 00:42

Hi Beans,
Welcome. This is a way of eating for life that re teaches you how to eat like a slim person with no food issues. You can lose weight this way but more importantly you lose the diet mentality and start seeing all food as equal. I know you want to feel that you can lose x amount of weight in x amount of time but unfortunately that is the way a dieter thinks. It can take about 6 months to fully turn around the way you think about yourself and food BUT as you have gained 20kg in a short space of time and don't want to continue gaining then this way of eating is here to help you. There are a few of us on here who are doing this each and every day, some days we forget but just start again as soon as we remember. The four golden rules are the most important thing. Eat when you are actually hungry, eat what ever you want, eat mindfully and thoughtfully, being aware of the food, stop as soon as you feel satisfied......o and chew each mouthful as much as you can before you swallow. Listen to the cd every night to start with. The cd hypno trance really really works on your subconscious and changes the way you act with food. It also works on your body image and self esteem. Were all on this journey and we are a very very friendly bunch who are always here to help each other and give support. Whats not to like Smile

Beans, with regard to "crap" food and second helpings. Labelling food as good bad or crap is diet speak again. If I want something then I have it. To deprive myself and make myself not have it would cause me anguish and would lead to binging. So I personally buy whatever I want within my budget. All food is allowed and by having all the food I love in the house I never feel deprived or anguished. I tend to not eat much at all but that is because I know I can if I want to. So im at a place now where I only eat if im truly hungry and eat what I truly want. If I overeat if feel sicky and don't like that bloated feeling.

KeepTheFaithBaby · 07/08/2013 09:55

Right, good morning all!

Hello Beans, welcome to Pauling. Yes it really does work. I've been Pauling for about 20 months. Can't really give clear weight loss because I had a baby nearly 4 months ago! To be fair, I only gained a stone during pregnancy which all went off when I had DD.

However, when concentrating on Pauling I lost about 12lb in 6 weeks. ppeat is a regular on here and she's used Pauling to lose weight and reach and stay at her goal weight.

How does it work? It works because you eat what you need to fuel your body. Also you really enjoy what you eat. You stop when you're full so you don't over indulge (like Rules says, when you're doing it right you feel ill if you eat too much!).

In terms of eating 'crap', I now think of 'crap' as diet food! Bland, tasteless 'low fat' food. It's fine to eat your crossaints as long as you chew them well. I do find the challenge is to 'Eat what I want'. I think what I want is usually sugar, junk food but when I concentrate and think what does my body want rather than what I'm craving, I often choose fruit and veg or sometimes I realise I need protein. Does that help?

So far, so good this morning. No biscuits in the house so didn't start the day with sugar. I had peppermint tea instead! I've looked at the book too so this is the start of me really doing it right :)

BeansAndToast · 07/08/2013 10:43

Hello, sounds like I did everything wrong I could by even mentioning 'crappy' foods I have been eating ;) Interesting how ingrained these thoughts and words are in our life.

Thank you everyone for your welcome and your help. I don't even mind not eating things like croissants now that I am not commuting so far anymore, it was more the convenience. I mean they are nice but lost their special touch after a while. Some days I just felt like I really needed quick food and often a bit of a caffein and sugar rush. I am moving soon though and will be within walking distance from work. I really want to be able to walk it/bike it without being out of breath within a few minutes.

So I know I need to start eating food that give me actual energy and maybe start exercising again.

I really like the idea of learning to feel when I am hungry and when I am full and what sort of food I need to fuel myself.

Rules · 07/08/2013 17:39

Beans when I eat a crossant I probably don't finish it now. If im really hungry for one I will have it sitting down with an accompanying cup of frothy coffee. I will take a bit and really savour its taste and the feeling im getting. If it doesn't taste wonderful and glorious then I leave it. I don't eat something unless it satisfies my tastebuds. As I take each bite thereafter I concentrate on each bite. Ask myself if it still tastes wonderful. If not then I am satisfied and stop. I eat this totally mindful way with everything often not finishing my food. Its the same with chocolate or a curry or a salad. Smile

veryberrybug · 07/08/2013 23:18

hello all & welcome beans mmm your name is my favourite comfort food! with melty cheese Grin

i'm a bit newer to this than most on here, so as you can see i still refer to "crap food" too, but i'm not convinced that i mean it in a dietspeak way. i refer to stuff you get out the freezer & pop in the oven for 25 minutes like ready-made chicken in crunchy coating, fishfingers etc, processed stuff you probably couldn't replicate homemade. however, i love stuff like ice-cream, cake, chocolate, & don't consider that crap at all! & yes, surprising as it may seem, i seem to be losing body fat as i eat these yummies!! so though i have the odd query/wobble, it does work & so it can work for you too Smile these guys on here get me through the wobbles Thanks

i can totally relate to eating for stress & tiredness, but i've found that Pauling has taught me to listen to my body better, so now i realise that the hole i need to fill is with sleep or relaxation rather than food. it's like the voice in me shouts louder the more i listen, so after more practice i'll get to the stage rules is at, where she cany ignore it. getting to walk to work will probably make a good difference to you, i certainly find increased physical activvity increases my desire to eat healthily - i just crave healthy foods more.

faithy well done on the running, you're doing so well with the regular consistent effort!

queen good luck with the HGB! what about next time you're stressing about if folk at work will think you're fatter, you set about clearing the table to take your mind off it & incidentally help you on your way? Wink

veryberrybug · 07/08/2013 23:26

BTW, i went in a posh tearoom today & was delighted to find they had GF scones, & it was the best scone i've ever had! here comes the shocker - it was small, & when (slowly) finished, i started to (automatically) think "ooh i could go that again" but i stopped & thought "no, actually, that was very satisfying, quite enough" !!! nice feeling Smile

Rules · 08/08/2013 00:15

Rules · 08/08/2013 11:43

PP are you ok?

QueenOfHalloween · 08/08/2013 14:05

That's a good idea Very

Have missed two night listening to the CD. Mind you i can't take all the blame. My OH decided he wanted to play Candy Crush on my phone, told him okay but don't take all night because i want to listen to my CD. I feel asleep whilst he got his butt kicked by the game.

veryberrybug · 09/08/2013 02:48

ppeatfruit · 09/08/2013 09:32

I'm back everyone !!!!!I'll just catch up with the last pages!!!!!XXxx

ppeatfruit · 09/08/2013 10:32

Well it's been quiet hasn't it? Very There was another MASSIVE storm (this one was frightening the wind was louder than the thunder;we could see the lightning but only heard the wind Shock which took out the lecky for 5 hours but also our phone line and so no connections for approx 5 days) then I flew over to blighty! We are lucky in that we have a gardener\odd job man with a key who go it mended in our absence so we got back late yesterday.

A big welcome to our newbie BeansAndToast You've found the RIGHT way to lose weight Grin And it DOES work I've lost nearly 3 stone in a year or so and am maintaining.

Solo tell me about families Hmm Grin we had a bit of a to do but I've learnt that it's not personal (esp. not with teenagers! and some adults!!!).

WRF Rules to the "bad' food discussion IMO it's the high salt, high corn syrup sweeteners and wheat that are in most convenience foods that cause addictive behaviour so leading to over eating and no or low exercise rates that have caused the recent obesity epidemic.

Rules · 09/08/2013 13:23

Well yes pp....those things definitely contribute and I agree that if we just had real food in shops that people would not have become obese but I also feel that people lost their own way of eating somewhere with the advent of the low fat diet that started the obsessive way of eating that has contributed to the obesity rates. But not just low fat diets obviously all diets. Once the supermarkets started getting bigger and stocking food that is processed rather than real then people started eating more and more using their eyes rather than their stomachs. The supermarkets would fall down completely if we went back to just eating the basics wouldn't they??? Of course they are all in on it. Government, health authorities, food industry, pharmaceutical companies, cancer uk etc....they all have something to gain by keeping us eating a certain way. If we all ate clean then a lot of these organisations and companies and governments would face a big downfall especially as people would be starting to heal themselves of modern day ailments by returning to a more natural way of eating.

Rules · 09/08/2013 13:25

Ooooooooo Im on one today. pp nice to have you back lol!!!! Grin

ppeatfruit · 09/08/2013 15:15

Thanks GrinYes Rules the media doesn't help either; so many people believe that e.g. Coke couldn't harm them and I reckon it's down to the advertising (they wouldn't do it if it didn't work!)

Though as you know IMO and E it takes more than just 'eating clean' . There are some good fresh foods make some people ill. Sad

Onesleeptillwembley · 09/08/2013 15:36

Sorry, I haven't read all the thread. I've just ordered this, so it should arrive next week. I have a thyroid problem, I'd never had weight problems previously. I'm now my ex self and a half! Im1 considering this with consciously low carbing, I don't mind that. Would it be counter productive? Does anyone know?

ppeatfruit · 09/08/2013 15:55

Welcome Onesleep I combine this with other "ways of eating" (paul mckenna says you shouldn't eat what makes you ill) there are as many ways of eating as there are people.

IMHO the rules that say eat only when you're hungry and eat consciously, chewing slowly and also stopping when you feel full are the most important. (though some on here may disagree). Grin
