Welcome to thread 12 of the Paul McKenna's I Can Make You Thin weight loss system.

The Golden Rules that will aid you on your journey with our like minded support system are:

1. Eat what you WANT
2. Eat when you are HUNGRY
3. Eat CONSCIOUSLY
4. STOP eating when you are satisfied and full

This weight loss system is about re-educating your body; learning to listen to it and in doing so losing weight and inches. After all, eating a meal is not a competition, it's about enjoying what you are putting in your mouth, but not feeling bloated and uncomfortable (or guilty) afterwards!
Many people have issues around food. Many of us have been brought up by the 'clear your plate' parents of yesteryear which leave us feeling guilty if we leave even the smallest morsel of food, but we are working through this guilt or any other hang up we may have, and we are learning to leave a bit on the plate; return to it another time if we really want to or even feed it to the dog or the bin!
So!! forget diets; they may work for a while, but they aren't permanent solutions. This is a new way of living for your brand new life!! Let's get lighter for those summer clothes!

The Paul McKenna system really works and is easy to maintain.

I've C&P'd our previous threads links as they are helpful.

Here are the book choices on AMAZON which is all you need to get started! they aren't compulsory, but they do help! it's something to refer to and listening to the cd's can really focus you.

This is the tapping technique EXPLAINED - this can be useful to combat cravings.

You don't have to buy the book and CD, but we have found that they do help and somehow they keep you on track, so it would probably be a good investment and will cost you far less than a couple of trips to WW or SW meetings, so do consider having them in your life.

Please feel free to join us, whether it's 10lbs or 10 stones you want to lose.
We are friendly, supportive and successful, but we're not hungry ~ NO we're not!!! so come on in and start living your new life today and make 2013 your year to drop a dress size or several...if we can get into a smaller size for summer, just think how we could look for next Christmas!

Hi Ladies

Another hot one here. I was over my bug the day after....I take echinachea when I need it and for as long as I need it or as short. I am doing my TMA today (tutor marked assignment) as im doing a degree course with the OU. Whats your husband doing then very

BigBoobiedBertha · 21/07/2013 17:10

Sorry ppeat, I was only teasing. I can't imagine a female version of MS. I just had to read your paragraph a couple of times to get the comparison out of my head. As I say, it was too early on a Sunday morning for me to be posting. I should be banned then.

Rules - is this your last TMA for the summer? A lot of the courses I did gave you a couple of weeks off or you finished the formal coursework bit and had a couple of months of revision.

Warmed up here a bit. Shame as the computer is in the loft conversion and it get v hot up here and I have stuff to do!

And........I was going to say something but I have forgotten what it was. Blush

ppeatfruit · 22/07/2013 07:51

Morning all!! You're forgiven BB! I wasn't being serious anyway! I sometimes would prefer my computer to be out of the way IFYSWIM it's in our cool kitchen so too bleedin' tempting to leave the washing up ,I try and time myself to just after my meals ('cos you mustn't rush around straight after eating must you? Grin.

(whispers) I know it's not eating mindfully but I'm eating my breakfast grapefruit slowly in front of the comp. now Blush)

Solo · 22/07/2013 11:07

Hey all! how are you doing?!

OP posts:
ppeatfruit · 22/07/2013 11:11

How are YOU Sols Grin

veryberrybug · 22/07/2013 12:02

hellooo queen & solo lovely to see youse on here again! Smile how are you both? are youse still having a shitty time with your health or has it improved?

rules DP did earth sciences through OU when kids were tiny. now whenever we end up walking near some rocks he can tell us the story of how they were formed!! turns out he can tell it in quite a graphic & interesting way which brings it to life for me (though don't know how much the kids take in/zone out!)

thanks for the link faithy i'll soon be enjoying Paul in bed again Wink

BBB i'd much rather have defiance than sneakyness, wouldn't you? i wouldn't be able to trust if one of DCs was (not) doing stuff behind my back

WRT eating, i seem to be going for larger more infrequent meals ATM, am wondering if i've slipped into faster eating again. mashed tatty & overcooked carrots are really hard to eat slowly! but i savoured every mouthful of the lamb. yesterday ate a disgustingly plastic trifle @ PIL's. ashamed to say i finished it, but out of politeness not enjoyment. wished i hadn't as the lamb was much nicer! was hungry again later but didn't finish what i had, hurrah remembered to throw non-appetising bits out. eating times gone haywire because i've been up late & thus rising late (slovenly holiday ways) but still trying to read my signals.

Solo · 22/07/2013 13:22

Thank you! I returned to work and lasted a whole day!! and I'm off sick again :( I do know that I can no longer do my job properly which makes me feel very sad, but also makes me realise that taking the redundancy is the best thing for me. My concentration and ability to remember anything is very poor and my tinnitus and hearing loss makes it super dangerous.

OP posts:
ppeatfruit · 22/07/2013 16:43

Well you can spell okay solo!! Praps do something using the computer?

KeepTheFaithBaby · 22/07/2013 18:27

Sounds like your body is sending you a clear message solo! Sorry you're struggling. Any idea what alternatives might suit you?

very it is just like having Paul in your bed! Bit disconcerting at first!

I had a great lunch - hommous with toasted pitta, carrot and pepper sticks. Turned off the tv, really chewed it. Then I gorged on sugary stuff! Think I need to read the book again!

Solo · 22/07/2013 18:53

Ha! pp It takes me several attempts and spell checking (myself, not the pc) before I press post! but thanks :)

Yes, HALF that's just how it feels.

veryberrybug · 22/07/2013 23:10

ooh faithy i do that sometimes too. still often crave something really sweet after lunch. i should probably try tapping for it. trouble is, i have these lovely patches where i don't feel the need to tap & then i forget all about it when i do need it . i'm having to practically sit on my hands to stop picking the fork up far too soon, so let's reboot eh Grin really enjoyed very small salady tea though & LEFT A BIT Shock

ppeatfruit · 23/07/2013 08:58

Morning All! that's called the "sugar\salt seesaw" very ;apparently our bodies crave sugar if we have salty and or garlicy food (won't stop me from eating garlic I LOVE it) we then crave something sweet.

The tapping works also a mint tea and or glass of cool water what I also sometimes do is say to myself for my next meal when I'm hungry again I'll have something sweet like choc. GF almond cake and soya mousse or custard or whatever!

likelucklove · 23/07/2013 09:21

Hello all! Sorry to jump right in.

I am a typical diet follower and desperately need to shed some weight :( I'm.... whispers 17st 2lbs! I've bought the book a few months ago and will start reading it tonight.

Does anyone have any tips? Especially with exercise. My DP works away and is only home 1 weekend a month so I struggle with finding time between work, house and DD to cook and exercise. I need to change my thinking because it's my procrastination and laziness which got me here.

Can't wait to get started!

BigBoobiedBertha · 23/07/2013 09:57

likelucklove - welcome! Glad you found us. I am sure we will have some tips along the way but it is very simple and pretty much all you need to know is in the OP. How hard can it be?! Grin

Seriously, although it isn't a diet and we can eat what we want we are all trying to break the habits which have long been ingrained in us, sometimes from childhood, so don't expect quick results. It will take a long time to break those habit so you need to stick with it as well. We reckon 6 months to create new habits and that is a challenge. BUT (and that is a big but not a shouty one) if you relax, follow the rules and try as hard as possible not to think this is a diet, it doesn't have to be the slog and tedium of a normal diet. you can eat what you what, when you want so long as you don't start until you are hungry and stop when you are satisfied. The trick to doing that is eat slowly I think, and everything else will fall into place.

Wrt exercise, Paul McKenna says no pain, no pain, so exercise is anything that makes you more active than you were before. Take your DD to the park and run around a bit, walk a bit further than normal, put a bit more effort into your housework (difficult in this humidity - the school run has made me sweat and it is 5 minutes walk Hmm). If you like dancing, dance around the sitting room if you can't go out with friends. Use the stairs more, that sort of thing. If you find you want to do more and you enjoy it then you can go further - an exercise DVD if you have no childcare or a few exercises which don't require much equipment. Anything really that you enjoy and means you spend less time sitting and more time moving.

I reckon first job is to read the book. It will motivate you and I am sure you will have more questions after that. Good luck and keep posting. Smile

Solo Sad Sorry you aren't well. I reckon you are right that redundancy might be your best option. It will give you breathing space to think about what to do and maybe for your health to improve. It sounds like the job is very, very tough and not ideal for you any more. On the plus side, you must have lots of transferable skills - if you are free to apply for anything and everything I am sure something suitable will turn up, hopefully with regular hours too.

To the rest of you, happy Tuesday. Got to go. I am supposed to be elsewhere at 10am Blush I'll be back.

KeepTheFaithBaby · 23/07/2013 10:22

Ah good to know its a typical process. I've just run out of peppermint tea actually so I'll get some more. So far, so good with protein rich breakfast - I think I am still eating carb heavy meals so I effectively offer my taste buds a choice, I think I actually need more protein whereas my carb desires are cravings IYSWIM? - properly chewing, tv off.

Welcome like. I think BBB has put it pretty succinctly! All I'd add about is the exercise thing. I have a 3 month old Dd so fitting 'exercise' in is tricky. I mostly walk with her in the pram or have half an hour while DH does bath and bottle. When she starts settling earlier I will start running. I enjoy both activities. I hate running on a treadmill!

veryberrybug · 23/07/2013 11:14

cheers pp yes as i exercise regularly i tend to like my food a bit salty so that makes sense! i tend to find when i'm proper hungry i only want savoury, as a bit of choc just wouldny fill me up. but the odd bit here & there is nice Wink

like welcome to you! reading the book & getting Pauling is the best thing you'll ever do for yourself! for me every meal became a happy top-up rather than the diet-related stress/guilt/longing (no more counting Grin) & i found as this happiness increased & with the CD relaxation & positive thoughts, other things become easier. i found with exercise that a routine worked best for me, so i tend not to agonise over "ooh can i be arsed? oh but i've only got 20mins is it worth it?" but rather "oh it's that time/day, let's go" & invariably i feel the better for it. well done you, keep on here & you'll get the support etc from short- & long-term Paulettes Smile
ps. i'm a lazy-arse WRT cooking too but when i do cook i make a massive pot & freeze portion bags of it: so nice when you then cany be bothered but want to eat real food & there's some there just a away!

solo i'm so glad you've decided to stop doing the job that's killing you. i'd imagine the uncertainty may be uncomfy but it'll allow you the space you need to find something you enjoy. life's too short to spend unhappy.

faithy interesting thought about the need-protein/crave-carbs. i'm defo carb-tacular before my period so hormones play a part, & yours may still be wibbling with the BF? i know i need protein when i want bacon & egg & cheese in the one roll!

hallo rules are you hiding in your shed of joy? Grin

ppeatfruit · 23/07/2013 11:36

Welcome LikeLuckLove please don't be sorry it's what we're here for (there's quite a few newbies who've settled right in actually Grin).

You're one of the clever ones!! You've found the RIGHT Way of Eating Grin this is how we should ALL eat! Oh dear do I sound a bit evangelical? I don't mean to!

Anyhoo I've lost the weight I needed to. I lost nearly 3 stone in about a year exercising exactly as BBB says in the way I like (i do find it much easier to lose when I'm rushing about though i've never been near a gym Grin) That "No pain" thing is one of P.M.'s brainwaves IMO with his "be kind to yourself" mantra is very important indeed.

I will also admit that I never was on the Slimfast or WW treadmill so maybe I've found it easier I don't know.

NoGoodAtWittyNames · 23/07/2013 23:00

Hi Like just wanted to say good luck Pauling and don't worry if things don't always seem to go to plan and if it feels like its taking you forever to get it. I had a revelation the other day (probably obvious but hey ho!) learning this new woe is like learning a new skill eg a foreign language you wouldn't expect yourself to become fluent overnight (or if my school French is anything to go by, in several years!) so don't worry if things take a while to click, keep persevering with the rules and in time it will become second nature and in the meantime you get to eat whatever you want and still lose weight. Happy days!

veryberrybug · 24/07/2013 11:04

good morning all! i'm hoping last night's mahoosive rainstorm will have cleared the air: yesterday i felt like pacman munching solid humidity to get along the street! i went along to curves & then sainsbo's in the evening & the rain sounded really dramatic on the tin roof with the thunder echoing round... & then we got tannoyed to leave early as the shop was flooding!! cue: panic buy some cheese & exit Grin
WRT hunger, mines seems to be thirst!?? i drink a fair amount with the herbal tea & all so have never really needed to make a point of drinking more, but i found when i switched back from builders' tea in the morning to lemon water, i actually wasny hungry for those toasts after all & an apple sufficed!??! Hmm

ppeatfruit · 24/07/2013 11:13

Morning All very Grin I had a weird experience during the storm yesterday Grin i had been up very early so had a quiet nap with Paul Mckenna and there must have been a power cut while I was asleep (despite the thunder) !! DH is away so i'm on my own, when I woke all the power was coming back on including the CD so P.M.'s voice sounded without my pressing play !! Shock

Rulesgirl · 24/07/2013 12:35

Hi Ladies....we had no thunderstorms here at all Sad

veryberrybug · 24/07/2013 14:12

aw pp were you all ?! never mind "3-2-1 you're back in the room" that would be strange to wake up with him just starting, i'd be wondering if i'd travelled back in time!

well i've been on bike run along the canal with DCs, trying to get a breeze in this muggy yuk. was lovely until DD2 started being argumentative stroppy wee bugger oh the joys. posted her off to an activity where she can stew, quite frankly, & i'll try to enjoy a little unstroppy peace with DD1. what were we just saying BBB about which DC is more like a teen?!!

ppeatfruit · 24/07/2013 14:34

Yes I was very Grin and the security light had come on in the barn reflecting onto my car making it look like the headlights were on! (hadn't used it at night for many weeks!!!)

Hi rules the thunderstorm cooled it slightly but it's still very hot here .

sameoldIggi · 24/07/2013 17:12

Hello, wondering if I could barge in and ask for some advice..?
Has anyone here used the hypnotic gastric band technique, and if so is it normal to get what feels like actual stomach pain with it? I started a couple of weeks ago, reused the cd last night as disappointed with what I'd eaten that day (on holiday, chocolate and fizzy drinks etc) and today I feel crap have hardly eaten but have a tight, sore stomach.
Feel like an idiot!
So, sorry to interrupt but hope someone might have some advice for me Thanks

veryberrybug · 24/07/2013 22:51

hello same i've used the band without success Sad but on the PM HGB thread (which appears to have died off a bit, but all the old posts are still there) lots of people mentionned feeling a tightening during the "op" & feeling a strong tightening sensation after eating a few mouthfuls, like the normal full feeling very magnified, or even feeling a bit sick if they overate. however yours may be a combination of the new band & also the aftermath of eating some crap, i know you can feel that way after too much fizzy/rich stuff sometimes. failing that you may have caught a bug! try a peppermint tea that's good for icky tummies. Brew hope it feels better soon & the band does the business for you Smile

OMG pp the car lights thing would freak me out, like empty kids playgrounds with swings swinging aaarrghh Shock when's DH back? i'm always more jittery when mine's away Blush
