Week 1 - Summer Low Carb Bootcamp starts here!

Morning all! There are over 150 of us signed up for Bootcamp, so it?s going to be busy I think. If you haven?t already put your name on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness, here is the link so that you can add yourself:

Just add yourself to the bottom of the list and the lovely WillieWaggleDagger, our SpreadsheetMeister, will ensure that it is re-sorted to remain alphabetised. Don?t touch any of the blue columns!
We work in pounds, but if you are a metric person, there?s a tab at the bottom of the spreadsheet that says ?conversion? which will recalculate from metric to imperial.

It?s up to you whether you choose to enter your actual weight or to index it, i.e. you start today at 100, and for every pound you lose you drop by 1.

You will also see on the tabs on the spreadsheet the rules for Bootcamp, as well as rules for those of you who are vegetarian, and rules for Bootcamp Light, which you can move on to after two weeks of Bootcamp.

There are only 10 rules, and the thinking behind Bootcamp is that it should be as straightforward as possible to follow. If you follow the rules (yes, all of them ? and especially no 7!), you will lose weight.

The idea behind Bootcamp is that we have a strict fortnight of low carbing, to break the addiction that we have to carbs and sweet things. You are making sure that you are switching your body from burning carbs to burning fat, and you will go into what is called ketosis in these first two weeks.

All that this means is that you are fat-burning.

In the first few days of low carbing, especially if you haven?t done it before, you may feel a bit rubbish ? you may have headaches or just feel generally tired and achey. This is known as ?carb flu? ? and it means that you are withdrawing from carbohydrates. Sugar (which is essentially how the body views and uses carbs) is highly addictive, and your body will be craving it. Don?t give in! After a couple of days you will feel much better.

If you are feeling odd or ill, make sure that you are getting plenty of sodium, potassium and magnesium. Add salt to your food and cook with salt. Try making a drink from Marmite/Bovril. Good foods to include in your diet are spinach, salmon and avocado. Drink plenty of water and make sure that you really are keeping your fat levels up. Take some paracetamol if you have a headache (not aspirin or ibuprofen as these drugs can impede weight loss).

well here I am, as well!
Yesterday was easy because I happened to feel a bit off colour anyway, and slept all afternoon which is when I'm normally feeling a bit snack-ish. And didn't feel like drinking any wine in the evening either.

Today I've had 2 eggs scrambled with cream and diced courgette, with a dollop of Philly. Nothing else - just don't feel hungry!

justpoppy · 30/04/2013 16:22

Thanks BIWI. I've been weighing myself at the gym because my scales at home are a bit rubbish. Time to invest in some new scales I think.

GetOrfMoiLand · 30/04/2013 16:29

Yes, I have to weigh in the morning after a wee. I won't do it after the shower as I worry the wet hair would add unwAnted ounces

OliviaMMumsnet · 30/04/2013 16:34

Oh geez are you shouting again BIWI?

Grin GetOrf I once found myself wondering how much to subtract for a mooncup

ecuse · 30/04/2013 17:09

Ocado Pork & Herb chipolatas are very low carb - less than 1g in 2 sausages. Watch out you get the right ones, though, as ocado sausages do vary quite widely!

B - scrambled egg, avocado and 2x sausages
L - couple of squares of cheese and some brazil nuts
D - ROast chicken breasts (with the skin on and some butter tucked underneath it!), courgettes cooked in butter and garlic and cauliflower mash

AuntieMaggie · 30/04/2013 17:20

ecuse are you doing bootcamp? If so no nuts!!!

Struggling to drink my water allowance today though I only had tea and a glass of water and no cake/brownie in the cage this morning.

I am craving harvester blue cheese sauce though!

AuntieMaggie · 30/04/2013 17:32

Zimbo i don't think lemon juice is allowed...

CiderwithBuda · 30/04/2013 17:35

GetOrf - I did the same! Wet hair must weigh more surely!

EwanHoozami - full or empty? Grin

AuntieMaggie · 30/04/2013 17:35

*cafe... they don't really put me in a cage at work Grin

Tip for newbies - really stick to the rules and you'll find the sweet cravings go and will have more energy.

Also Morrison sells packs of crackling for snacks.

ecuse · 30/04/2013 17:40

AuntMaggie oops. Quite right. I am sort of bootcamp-lite Grin

Hello. Having lost a couple of stone last year on this WOE and found bootcamp v supportive(have nchanged since then) I would love to join you all. Still a couple of stone overweight in reality and want to drop those pronto as DH and I are poss thinking about TTC and want to be in shape for that ( not the TTC! The pregnancy). Hope you will let me join you as a latecomer. Will weigh tomorrow am and add to spreadsheet

HeirToTheIronThrone · 30/04/2013 18:32

I'm back! A fabulous break in France with TOO MUCH to eat - bread, frites, chocolate pudding, far breton, crisps, you name it... So bootcamp has returned at a good time! I'm still 9lbs down from the first one, so not too bad - would like to hit 11st 7 this time round.

Today has been good - no breakfast, then a big salad at lunch (in the pub) with chicken and avocado. Pork scratchings and fizzy water at the cinema this afternoon, and dinner will be pan fried pork chops with braised red cabbage and broccoli. Plus a gym session and a swim.

Well done everyone so far!

JustasmallGless · 30/04/2013 19:00

AuntieMaggie- glad you clarified was worried then!

All good so far today
B hard boiled eggs and mayo
L tuna mayo and salad
D bolognaise and courgette pasta with Parmesan

What's not to love on this woe?

Eating out really easy in most restaurants
We went out for our anniversary last night. I had meatballs as a starter and rib eye steak with mushrooms and green beans for main. Was stuffed

Twit - I note you saying you are more of a snacker but as your body changes into fat burning you will go longer in between meals. I had boiled eggs at 6.20 and didn't eat lunch until 2-15 and wasn't hungry in between at all.

That's normal for me now. I used to pick ALL day before this WOE. around an hour after a meal I would have fruit /snack and continue all day

BIWI · 30/04/2013 19:14

Carb counts for lemon/lime juice:

100ml lime juice 8.77g
100ml lemon juice 8.9g carbs

However, if you're using a tablespoon of juice, that's only 15ml, which would make it just over 1g carb.

Yama · 30/04/2013 19:29

Well, well, well - I''m down 1.5lbs. However, I reckon yesterday's starting point was inflated because of a carby weekend.

I even had some mixed nuts last night. Don't worry, I've had a word with myself.

Today:

B - Scrambled eggs with parma had and chicken fat
S - Greek yoghurt with milled flaxseed
L - Roast beef and param ham salad
D - Lamb chops and choritse/brocolli stew

Can you not manage a scrambled egg?
Tbh if you are ill with a bug and its defo not carb flu we are only on day 2 so I would eat what you can manage.

There have been people who had similar symptoms though as their body purged of carbs

JustasmallGless · 30/04/2013 20:09

I would go for the yogurt if you can stomach that

Valdeeves · 30/04/2013 20:14

Usually I don't feel like this but I'm starving - haven't eaten enough today:

Breakfast : cheesy scrambled eggs
Lunch: asparagus soup with butter
Dinner: hopefully homemade cheeseburgers - obviously no bun.

The kids won't go to bed so its going to be a late meal - I think the rumbling of my tummy is keeping them awake. For newcomers - you should never feel hungry on this diet - if you are you are usually not eating enough fat - that's me today!
