Week 1 - Summer Low Carb Bootcamp starts here!

Morning all! There are over 150 of us signed up for Bootcamp, so it?s going to be busy I think. If you haven?t already put your name on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness, here is the link so that you can add yourself:

Just add yourself to the bottom of the list and the lovely WillieWaggleDagger, our SpreadsheetMeister, will ensure that it is re-sorted to remain alphabetised. Don?t touch any of the blue columns!
We work in pounds, but if you are a metric person, there?s a tab at the bottom of the spreadsheet that says ?conversion? which will recalculate from metric to imperial.

It?s up to you whether you choose to enter your actual weight or to index it, i.e. you start today at 100, and for every pound you lose you drop by 1.

You will also see on the tabs on the spreadsheet the rules for Bootcamp, as well as rules for those of you who are vegetarian, and rules for Bootcamp Light, which you can move on to after two weeks of Bootcamp.

There are only 10 rules, and the thinking behind Bootcamp is that it should be as straightforward as possible to follow. If you follow the rules (yes, all of them ? and especially no 7!), you will lose weight.

The idea behind Bootcamp is that we have a strict fortnight of low carbing, to break the addiction that we have to carbs and sweet things. You are making sure that you are switching your body from burning carbs to burning fat, and you will go into what is called ketosis in these first two weeks.

All that this means is that you are fat-burning.

In the first few days of low carbing, especially if you haven?t done it before, you may feel a bit rubbish ? you may have headaches or just feel generally tired and achey. This is known as ?carb flu? ? and it means that you are withdrawing from carbohydrates. Sugar (which is essentially how the body views and uses carbs) is highly addictive, and your body will be craving it. Don?t give in! After a couple of days you will feel much better.

If you are feeling odd or ill, make sure that you are getting plenty of sodium, potassium and magnesium. Add salt to your food and cook with salt. Try making a drink from Marmite/Bovril. Good foods to include in your diet are spinach, salmon and avocado. Drink plenty of water and make sure that you really are keeping your fat levels up. Take some paracetamol if you have a headache (not aspirin or ibuprofen as these drugs can impede weight loss).

eating out in restaurants is amazingly easy on this WOE. most (all?) eateries will be perfectly happy for you to swap potatoes in a meal for another available veg. and cheese board for pudding!

AuntieMaggie · 30/04/2013 12:59

Aldi sausaged in the black packet and bratwurst are low carb.

berryfreeze · 30/04/2013 13:08

hi have just signed in, hopefully will lose 20lb before the summer, sclaes i have are not brilliant , but will be happy if i am hoovering around the 9 and half on them

Collywibbles · 30/04/2013 13:31

Added myself to the spreadsheet.

M&S & Sainsburys both do 97% pork sausages which are low carb. They always seem to be on some sort of special offer as well ....

Artyjools · 30/04/2013 13:37

I've added myself to the spreadsheet. Can't bear the thought of being this big on the beach!!!

ZimboMum · 30/04/2013 13:37

Thanks dosh the vinaigrette was homemade so just olive oil, White wine vinegar, lemon juice and Dijon mustard.

Lunch: lamb chops with salad leaves, mozzarella and avocado. And water.

Whoever said that we might feel like incontinent cart horses for a week or so sure wasn't wrong!

halfthesize · 30/04/2013 13:42

Hi All Attack the suger cravings etc get much better as time goes on and by 2 weeks have gone as long as you dont cheat....

Had a lovely breakfast of bacon and egg fried in butter.
Lunch was homemade broccoli and stilton soup. Need to sort something for dinner. Lots of water drank, run completed and squats to do. Smile

Attackofthefiftyfootwoman · 30/04/2013 13:53

trying the cauliflower rice tonight as an experiment ... quite excited about that Grin

day 2 sugar cravings don't seem as bad today I am being very strict so hopefully they will go soon x

WillieWaggledagger · 30/04/2013 13:53

regarding cravings, one thought process that has helped quite a few people including me, is when presented with that irresistible chocolate brownie (or whatever) ask yourself:

do I know what this tastes like?
is it my first and last opportunity EVER to try this

in 99.99999999% of cases the answer to the first will be 'yes' and the second will be 'no'. you will almost certainly have tried a before, and i seriously doubt that there is an imminent chocolate brownie shortage in your part of the world. there will be plenty of other opportunities to eat this another time in your life, so you don't need to have it NOW.

Hi all.

I actually started last Wednesday and as of this morning have lost 5 lbs. Very pleased.

Still finding it fairly easy although I did get a bit constipated (sorry if tmi but it is a risk with this WOE!). I think I'm not drinking enough water so that's my challenge over next few days.

Wand - that's brilliant! I bet you feel much more encouraged.

B - smoked salmon and cream cheese roulades from sainsbos and egg mayo also sainsbos. Both under 0.5 sugars per 100g so I hope they are ok.

L - salad leaves, Parma ham, cherry toms, avocado, mozzarella and oil and balsamic. I know balsamic is not allowed but that particular salad needs it! I won't have any tomorrow! I also know I lost weight doing Atkins before and using balsamic.

D - steak with asparagus and hollandaise sauce and some other veg I think.

Also walked for about an hour today. And DH is planning on me gardening later.

GetOrfMoiLand · 30/04/2013 14:05

I think eating out is really easy on this woe.

Starters,a pâté eaten with salad, or smoked salmon.

Main, salad nicotine, steak with mushrooms, burger without the bun, fish with salad or steamed veg

Never have a pudding anyway, but you could substitute some cheese.

I haven't eaten at all today (sometimes get like that at work) so will have something when I get in later. Thinking pork chops and cauliflower cheese (I make that with a spoonful of full fat Philadelphia, and then loads of grated cheddar on top)

I weighed myself this morning, 10 stone 5 so a pound off already (I am also a daily weighter, it does fluctuate but I think it gives a clearer picture of weight loss)

GetOrfMoiLand · 30/04/2013 14:07

Those of you with sugar cravings - there has been a lot of press recently about sugar 'addiction' - and it is a real thing! Lots of journos are waking up to the fact that we 'cannot' do without sugar in one form or another, it is in ready meals, sauces, tins, added to almost everything you buy ready made, including bread. This is why you must crack the addiction first - by doing Bootcamp. Strictly.

This is why this WOE is so good for you - not only do you eat proper, homemade food but you know exactly what goes into it.

And fat doesn't make you fat. Sugar does.

justpoppy · 30/04/2013 15:35

Thanks LackaDAISYcal I've added the nuremberg sausages to my Lidl list.

Bit disheartened as I weighed myself at lunch time at the gym and somehow I've gained over a lb since the same time yesterday. I'm hoping its all the water I've been drinking this morning.

PennyHofstadter · 30/04/2013 15:37

Well I survived the lunch time meal out to F&B's by having a cheese burger without the bun/tomato/onion and having a plain salad. The next challenge is avoiding the two boxes of Krispy Kreme donuts that are sat on the table facing me!

GetOrfMoiLand · 30/04/2013 15:39

Nuremberg sausages are wonderful.

LIdl also used to do a premium mayonnaise which was as good as that delouis fils stuff they sell but at a quarter of the price. But they seem to have stopped selling it now, damn them.

WillieWaggledagger · 30/04/2013 15:48

justpoppy if you've eaten/drunk anything before weighing (since waking up) then the scales will reflect that - a litre of water weighs 1kg / 2.2lb

i weigh nekkid first thing after a wee. i am daft though and won't even put deodorant on beforehand and take off my ring (as if it makes any difference!)

justpoppy · 30/04/2013 15:58

Every ounce counts tho Willie! Grin

BIWI · 30/04/2013 15:58

Justpoppy - only weigh yourself first thing in the morning, naked and (ideally) after you have been to the loo! Otherwise all you are doing is weighing the food and drink that you have consumed
