Week 1 - Summer Low Carb Bootcamp starts here!

BIWI · 29/04/2013 10:34

Morning all! There are over 150 of us signed up for Bootcamp, so it?s going to be busy I think. If you haven?t already put your name on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness, here is the link so that you can add yourself:

Just add yourself to the bottom of the list and the lovely WillieWaggleDagger, our SpreadsheetMeister, will ensure that it is re-sorted to remain alphabetised. Don?t touch any of the blue columns!
We work in pounds, but if you are a metric person, there?s a tab at the bottom of the spreadsheet that says ?conversion? which will recalculate from metric to imperial.

It?s up to you whether you choose to enter your actual weight or to index it, i.e. you start today at 100, and for every pound you lose you drop by 1.

You will also see on the tabs on the spreadsheet the rules for Bootcamp, as well as rules for those of you who are vegetarian, and rules for Bootcamp Light, which you can move on to after two weeks of Bootcamp.

There are only 10 rules, and the thinking behind Bootcamp is that it should be as straightforward as possible to follow. If you follow the rules (yes, all of them ? and especially no 7!), you will lose weight.

The idea behind Bootcamp is that we have a strict fortnight of low carbing, to break the addiction that we have to carbs and sweet things. You are making sure that you are switching your body from burning carbs to burning fat, and you will go into what is called ketosis in these first two weeks.

All that this means is that you are fat-burning.

In the first few days of low carbing, especially if you haven?t done it before, you may feel a bit rubbish ? you may have headaches or just feel generally tired and achey. This is known as ?carb flu? ? and it means that you are withdrawing from carbohydrates. Sugar (which is essentially how the body views and uses carbs) is highly addictive, and your body will be craving it. Don?t give in! After a couple of days you will feel much better.

If you are feeling odd or ill, make sure that you are getting plenty of sodium, potassium and magnesium. Add salt to your food and cook with salt. Try making a drink from Marmite/Bovril. Good foods to include in your diet are spinach, salmon and avocado. Drink plenty of water and make sure that you really are keeping your fat levels up. Take some paracetamol if you have a headache (not aspirin or ibuprofen as these drugs can impede weight loss).

B - 3 egg omelette with cheese cooked in butter
L - tuna mayo with green leaf salad and oily dressing
S - celery and Philly (25g)
D - turkey burgers (turkey mince, shallots, red chilli, salt, pepper, egg white) with large flat mushrooms

Have drank 2.5 ltrs of water so far, plus black coffee. Oh and I've just got in from body combat. Hopefully not a bad start to the week.

Ilisten2theradio · 29/04/2013 19:12

Waves hello to everyone and marks place...

TreeLuLa · 29/04/2013 19:18

Ok, day 1 completed.

I even drank my water.

Shopping about to arrive - have to try to get some packed lunchy things sorted - have a 2 day school trip coming up on Weds and Thurs. - any ideas?

Laurelandhearty · 29/04/2013 19:27

Thanks Just, that's clearly where I've gone wrong. I drank lots of water this morning but didn't keep it up this afternoon and the headache kicked in.

Ilovemyteddy · 29/04/2013 19:39

Signing in! I was a bit Blush when I realised that I've put on 8lbs since bloody March, but I'm not surprised because I have been eating far too many carbs. Still trying to get down to the target I set myself in Jan 2012 of 147lbs, but have no one to blame but myself for not eating properly.

I have a holiday in 6 weeks so that's what I'm focussing on.

For newbies my two pieces of advice would be to get organised so that you don't find yourself having to buy something carby at lunchtime if you are away from home, and drink plenty of water because it makes a massive difference to weightloss on this WOE.

Ruprekt · 29/04/2013 19:55

GetOrfMoiLand · 29/04/2013 20:50

I am going to join in this bootcamp - I was on one of the original bootcamp threads last year, but came off because I became I'll.

I am going on my hols in July and would like to get down to 9 stone 8 so would be an 11 pound weight loss.

I LOVE these threads because they really help with the way of life eating mentality. I do generally eat low carb, I don't eat any bread, pasta, rice, processed shit in the week and on,y have it sparingly at weekends. I used to eat a lt of pasta, now I just view it as a treat.

Anyway I want to kick start myself into bootcamp mode and pick up the tips and recipes!

NellVarnish · 29/04/2013 21:01

Bloody buggery ten POUNDS on since the last Bootcamp. I am traumatised. But it serves me right.

Back on the wagon today ...

B: too shocked to eat after Scale Scare
L: tuna in oil with mayo, lettuce and celery
D: salmon in butter, roasted broccoli (sesame oil)
S: Lidl yoghurt (yum)

Good luck to everyone old and new, and thanks again to BIWI and Willie for starting it up all over again. Thanks

HalfSpamHalfBrisket · 29/04/2013 21:05

B: protein shake
L: Cheese stuffed mushroom with large salad
D: Salmon with asparagus and broccoli

Snack: mini cheese thing

I forgot about the 'no caffeine' rule though - off to re-read the rules. And drink some water.

GetOrfMoiLand · 29/04/2013 21:08

And bloody hell biwi and willie you have put a shed load of work and thought into everything, thanks very much!

GetOrfMoiLand · 29/04/2013 21:11

I can't do my sums. I am currently 10 stone 6 so need to lose 10 lbs.

This woe really works. At the beginning of 2012 I was 12 stone 3 and from low carbing on and off got down to 9 stone 13 just before Christmas just gone. I have out a few lbs on since but not a huge amount really. This woe reAlly, really works.

WillieWaggledagger · 29/04/2013 21:14

getorf from your acorn spreadsheet... you started it off, so thanks!

CarolBornAMan · 29/04/2013 21:19

who ever suggested sumac on eggs - THANKS! I had this treat this morning with spinach fried in butter - very very lovely..

chicken salad for lunch

Spagless bol for dinner..

feeling quite weird - am a compulsive eater without the need to eat .. very strange..

BIWI · 29/04/2013 21:21

NoCarbsBeforeBarbs (great name!) - you really do need to eat breakfast during Bootcamp. We are trying to make sure that you are keeping your blood sugar levels stable, and it's important that you eat regularly to achieve this.

Also, not much veg in your menu today. Whilst we're looking to keep our carbs low, you do need to make sure that you eat a little more veg/salad than you have.

OP posts:
hazchem · 29/04/2013 21:27

well yesterday went well, mostly!
B Eggs
L corned beef, cheese, avocado, mayo, lettuce
S Corned beef
D Chicken in toms with olives and mushrooms
but then I accidentally ate a bar of dark chocolate and a date! My only saving grace was that it was only a 40g bar and it was 85% but still a poor effort.

JaxTellerIsAllMine · 29/04/2013 21:33

hi, well today started off really well. I drank water, black coffee, had salad, chicken and a splosh of lemon mayo at lunch... then I had to go and stock up on stuff at Costco, and they have started selling Churros there, so I had to try one.

I have walked miles today so hoping it doesnt affect too much.

Promise to do better tomorrow.

BeattieBow · 29/04/2013 21:35

Hello! I'm in too - was on the last one under a different name - probably am about 2/3lb heavier than I finished mainly due to easter egg consumption.

did well today.

do i just add myself to the bottom of the spreadsheet? Not sure how to insert myself in alphabetical order?

Ruprekt · 29/04/2013 21:37

JAX!!AngryAngry It is DAY 1 !!!

No more churros!

MrsHerculePoirot · 29/04/2013 21:37

Beattie, just add yourself at the bottom and it will all be sorted out like magic by Willie later!

BeattieBow · 29/04/2013 21:41

so I added myself to the bottom. Couldn't work out how to put in my old weight - I started on the 7th Jan at 11lb heavier than I am now and lost a stone. gained 3lb since.

back on wagon now. Am adding in exercise this time as am lighter than I was but flabbier.

JaxTellerIsAllMine · 29/04/2013 21:42

Ive never had one before Blush and wanted to try them for years...

But I am ok now, it wont happen again. pinky promise. Grin
