Week 1 - Summer Low Carb Bootcamp starts here!

Morning all! There are over 150 of us signed up for Bootcamp, so it?s going to be busy I think. If you haven?t already put your name on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness, here is the link so that you can add yourself:

Just add yourself to the bottom of the list and the lovely WillieWaggleDagger, our SpreadsheetMeister, will ensure that it is re-sorted to remain alphabetised. Don?t touch any of the blue columns!
We work in pounds, but if you are a metric person, there?s a tab at the bottom of the spreadsheet that says ?conversion? which will recalculate from metric to imperial.

It?s up to you whether you choose to enter your actual weight or to index it, i.e. you start today at 100, and for every pound you lose you drop by 1.

You will also see on the tabs on the spreadsheet the rules for Bootcamp, as well as rules for those of you who are vegetarian, and rules for Bootcamp Light, which you can move on to after two weeks of Bootcamp.

There are only 10 rules, and the thinking behind Bootcamp is that it should be as straightforward as possible to follow. If you follow the rules (yes, all of them ? and especially no 7!), you will lose weight.

The idea behind Bootcamp is that we have a strict fortnight of low carbing, to break the addiction that we have to carbs and sweet things. You are making sure that you are switching your body from burning carbs to burning fat, and you will go into what is called ketosis in these first two weeks.

All that this means is that you are fat-burning.

In the first few days of low carbing, especially if you haven?t done it before, you may feel a bit rubbish ? you may have headaches or just feel generally tired and achey. This is known as ?carb flu? ? and it means that you are withdrawing from carbohydrates. Sugar (which is essentially how the body views and uses carbs) is highly addictive, and your body will be craving it. Don?t give in! After a couple of days you will feel much better.

If you are feeling odd or ill, make sure that you are getting plenty of sodium, potassium and magnesium. Add salt to your food and cook with salt. Try making a drink from Marmite/Bovril. Good foods to include in your diet are spinach, salmon and avocado. Drink plenty of water and make sure that you really are keeping your fat levels up. Take some paracetamol if you have a headache (not aspirin or ibuprofen as these drugs can impede weight loss).

hello waves around

Have added my weight into the spreadsheet (it really is fabulous!)
I have been low carbing for just over a month and have already lost 13 lbs.
B - Cooked ham and a baby bel.
L - leftover low carb chilli on cabbage and leeks with cheddar
D - Cheddar cheese square (I'm working late and that's all I've got!)

I've not been hungry and I am drinking water like it's running out.

day 1 over and no chocolate - tis a miracle!!
B: 2 x cups tea with milk, 2 eggs and 2 bacon fried in butter (i know bacon's not allowed but mumsnet was down and i forgot)
L: 1/2 tin tuna, 1/2 green pepper, some chopped cucumber, mayonnaise, good portion chopped feta
D: pan fried salmon steak, boiled then fried cauliflower with bit of cream poured over and sprinkled with parmesan
also had coffee black and coffee with cream
and about 3 litres water, still and sparkling

wasn't at all hungry in between, but not sure if i'm doing this right and can't quite believe i will lose weight eating like this - what if my portions are too massive? need to study recipe thread, goodnight all!

savoirfaire · 29/04/2013 22:16

Evening all

I just know I'm not going to be able to keep up with the thread this time round - so apologies in advance for what will look like a post and run. I will try and keep an eye on things when I can.

Day 1 ok here. Quite stressful for various reasons but food wise ok.
B: 1.5 eggs
L: spinach and celeriac soup
D: meatballs (processed - I know) and courgettes in a tomato sauce.

Off to go and drink my final half litre of water (and be up peeing all night!).

savoirfaire · 29/04/2013 22:16

oh. And I had quite a bit of goats cheese as a snack Blush

BIWI · 29/04/2013 22:18

ruby - bacon is allowed, just don't have it at every meal/every day!

Hi all, as you know I'm not going to weigh myself this time, just measure my tum and count the days til I feel better in myself.
Feel oddly depressed which is making me feel like chomping on the bad stuff.
Today I had;
Scrambled eggs with butter
Mixed seafood and mayonnaise with stir fried spring greens in butter
Chicken with spinach cooked with butter (again lol )
As snacks (I need snacks, it's just how I am) I melted cheese in the microwave which was surprisingly nice Confused
And a lot of water.

If anyone's got any snack ideas they would be gratefully received. I have some hard boiled eggs, and I might find the black farmer sausages and cook them up to have cold. Bear in mind I live in the arse end of nowhere and am lacking in cooking skills as well as cash.

Signing in as well - got a holiday after Bootcamp and a mum tum that needs shifting!
Breakfast; feta/ butter scrambled eggs.
Lunch: asparagus soup
Tea: Chicken roasted in spices, Parmesan swede chips (whichever angel posted them - they are frickin amazing!!)

Drank 2 1/2 litres of water today. Got to go to sleep - my eyes are crossing as the baby still isn't sleeping through.
Good luck with the low carbing tomorrow - step away from the biscuits!!!

Lavenderhoney · 30/04/2013 05:05

Eeek- just went to the laptop to put in my weight and the thing is all dark and won't fire up!

Yesterday,

B - eggs and bacon
L- stir fried lamb in butter with peas ( leftovers)
D- pan fried salmon, green beans, broccoli

2 litres of water.

Dh-I will add his weight when laptop working - but he had 3 litre of water, and followed the lc, and has already reported a headache, and a bit of an upset tummy.

I don't think he has had an expresso without sugar for YEARS so its a big thing for him:)

changeforthebetter · 30/04/2013 05:59

Day one fine. Not at all hungry. My bloody period started which did not help my energy levels. By last night I was exhausted though. I think I need to up my water and salt. I am a bit worried about the fatigue. I'm a teacher so exhaustion isn't really a great idea. Will try eggs for breakfast. I had yoghurt yesterday (full fat, promise Smile)

robino · 30/04/2013 06:30

A great big failure yeterday inspired by attending the pub quiz- there's only one a month here. So starting today having made the discovery that DH has thrown out my homenade soup... Will add 172 to the soreadsheet soon

WestleyAndButtockUp · 30/04/2013 06:36

Day 1 yesterday was fine, but woke up achey this morning.

B - Almonds (didn't know it was verboten)
L - Essentially a chicken Caesar salad, with roquefort
D - scrambled eggs w chive and cheese, lettuce w creamy dressing

Brew good morning all, I had roast belly of pork smothered in chilli cheese sauce and served with buttery mashed Swede was yummy.
I have decided to not weigh daily this time. Hope everyone had a good first day, remember preparation is key and hard boiled eggs in the fridge are a god send for first few days Wink

thekitchenfairy · 30/04/2013 07:25

Hello everyone...

Not sure I've had any luck on the SS but will sneak back in my lunch hour!

Welco,me all newbies, looking forward to many fab recipe ideas, stories of inspiration and Big Changes...

Hellooo there BlackAffronted... Have you seen the OFM food photographer awards open to amateur foodies. I saw it and thought of you Grin

Ruprekt · 30/04/2013 07:47

With parmesan swede chips, Val, do you just sprinkle over parmesan before roasting?SmileSmile

EwanHoozami · 30/04/2013 07:56

thekitchenfairy I'm looking forward to getting busy with salad recipes now the sun is poking out of the clouds. Roast broccoli, rocket and goats cheese salad is on this week's plan, with loads of lovely olive oil. Mmmmm.

Can I chime in with a couple of supplement recommendations? Absolutely not prescriptive but these helped me, especially in the first couple of weeks.

Chromium can improve the way that your body uses insulin thus leveling blood sugar levels. This can help with sugar cravings. Good multivits have some in anyway.

A good vitamin B supplement will help metabolism, energy levels and cell renewal so great for skin and hair etc.

Doshusallie · 30/04/2013 08:05

Don't be nervous raspberry. There is a whole world if fab food out there for us and you soon come to realise that the bread etc isn't worth having. It's the butter which is tasty! I used to eat tonnes of pasta and do t miss it at all.

The smaller jeans and flatter tummy also help.

BIWI · 30/04/2013 08:30

1/2 pound down for me already so 9 stone 7.

I'm a daily weigher as it keeps me on track.

On a long train journey and just about to tuck into a massive fry up for breakfast. I shall forego the rosti however.

Morning all. Yesterday was fine but have woken up with a headache so have taken some paracetamol with a pint of water just to try stave it off.

Yesterday's tea was yummy: tandoori style chicken with salad and loads of vinaigrette. Had to put up with DH moaning that he was hungry all evening whilst fighting off chocolate cravings but I did it! Have also done nearly 48hours cold turkey from coke zero which I used to drink far too much of. that's probably what the headache is all about.

B today: 2 egg omelette with bacon cheese and herbs in butter. With water.

Tigglette · 30/04/2013 08:35

Good morning everyone, the sun's shining here - the thought of getting my post winter legs out is enough to make me weep, more incentive to keep to the rules I suppose.

The plan for today is
B: Greek yoghurt and some ginger tea
L: chicken in a creamy peppercorn sauce and salad
D: home made chilli scooped into little gem "wraps" with cheese and sour cream

I've got some celery sticks for munching on. Just realised how dairy heavy my meals are today - will need to keep an eye on it...
