Hello all
I'm probably not going to join the Bootcamp proper but if it's okay I may pop in and out! I know this might sound like overkill, but I can honestly say that Bootcamp changed my life - or at least these low-carb threads did (I wasn't always a perfect boot camper and can never eat breakfast
) So I just wanted to let any nervous newbies know that this might well be the best decision you ever made!
I started low-carbing about this time last year, when I realised that after years of never having to watch my weight, my BMI was creeping into the overweight zone. So, not desperate straits weight wise, but I was a mindless snacker, addicted to sugar, bread and pasta, and feeling knackered, sick, bloated and lethargic all the time. In fact, I thought it was normal to feel that way.
Following BIWI's threads, I lost 20 lbs. I can honestly say it was easy. I've dropped pasta, bread, potatoes and sugar and really never looked back. I did have a blip over Xmas but as soon as I got back on the wagon, my energy returned, as did my glowing skin and flat, unbloated tummy! And the weirdest thing is, I couldn't care less if I never had a plate of pasta again.
I'm now following a slightly more 'relaxed' Primal style of eating, which allows for a bit more fruit and the odd sweet potato and occasional portion of rice. I eat very dark chocolate pretty much every day, and drink red wine or spirits. But the principles I learned on Bootcamp still remain, and I can honestly say that I'll eat this way forever. I've learned so much about food, and my body. I LOVE cooking now. It's even inspired me to consider a research proposal for my MSc (gestational diabetes and low-carb).
It is a bit unforgiving in the early days and you can feel a bit crappy in the first week but please, think of it as an education in your own body. It is SO worth it (and you can lose a lot more than 20lbs too). Apologies for the essay, and Good Luck and ENJOY IT!
