Just to give you a couple of weeks advanced warning, so you can think about it, plan for it, etc.

Plain full fat fromage frais might be a good bet from French supermarkets

Ruprekt · 21/04/2013 18:20

I have been doing LC since Jan 7 and DH and I are total converts now. Smile

I have lost 22 lbs.

Have not fallen off the wagon at all really. I also made the decision to be teetotal on 1 Jan which has helped.

Looking forward to Bootcamp and Biwi with her big stick and hair stroking!!Wink

Low carbing rocks!!!!!

We are staying in Brest, which I know very little about. In a hotel, and we get a daily 'allowance' for food and then receipt back any extra. I'll try and find a LIDL or something to get extra yoghurt.

I'll definitely take a few big tubs with me because I don't even like croissants tbh, maybe some pepperami sticks as well. I might back some Parmesan shortbreads too and pack them in foil. Any other suggestions?

Slatternly....can you go for a continental breakfast with hams and cheese perhaps?

Take pepperami
Babybel
Cheese triangles

Ruprekt · 21/04/2013 18:37

Elder....portion sizes are normal.

Tonight Dh and I are having chicken kiev, celeriac chips and stirfried cabbage. Lots of butter in cabbage.

For my BAB tomorrow I will have celeriac mash, bacon and 2 poached eggs.....maybe frankfurter sausages at 0.7g carbs each.

That will keep me going til dinner but might force celery and cream cheese down at lunch. Smile

The key to this is fat and gallons of water......I drink it warm as I can down a pint of warm water more easily than cold water.

Slatternly, I'm going to be in France for the summer:)

Cheese and ham for breakfast, which you could spread butter on the ham:) Omelettes may be a staple for you. There will be somewhere to get lovely olives and cheese I expect. Then just ignore the bread. Pâté or foie gras with salad?

I plan to have coffee and cream for breakfast, avoiding the fresh bread and crossiants with home made jam:( there is always loads of cheese, and lunch and dinner avoid aperitifs except for olives and saucisson. My mil doesn't really cook carbs, they have salads, veg and meat/ fish all cooked in cream:)

She is lovely though, and won't mind any strange lc eating habits. She is a fab cook so I will struggle. Every year I arrive slim and lumber back on the plane:)

slatternlymother · 21/04/2013 19:48

[lavender] i'm seriously envious of your French holidays!!

Thanks for all the suggestions though, I think I'm going to find out where the hotel is tomorrow and then Google the nearest supermarket.

slatternlymother · 21/04/2013 19:48

And what is sauscionn lavender?

cnicholls · 21/04/2013 20:14

Just thought I'd say hi and that I'm going to join in too.

Also signed up to a brand new gym and swiming pool in my area, opening day is Saturday so can't wait!

Is this the thread to visit if i've got any questions?

BIWI · 21/04/2013 20:20

It is indeed, cnicholls!

Once we get going, on 29 April, I'll set up a separate thread for questions, so that they don't get missed. But for the time being, ask anything you want to on this thread.

Hello dears.

Marking my spot.

This WOE is bloody marvello.

AuntieMaggie · 21/04/2013 21:50

slatternly its a type of sausage like chorizo but they do them in different 'flavours' - very strong flavoured. DP loves them!

I'm spending July in France with family so will be having plenty of cheese, pate, etc and avoiding the bread and homemade jam and other lovely carby food including lemon meringue :( (my fave dessert ever that they make especially for me as they are a retired chef)

lavender has given some good ideas above (plenty of places do omelettes) but my fave in France is moules frites but this time will be without the frites sadly :(

cnicholls · 21/04/2013 22:13

Thanks BIWI. I'm Claire BTW.
If you have a min could you tell me what you have for an example brekkie, lunch and dinner to give me some ideas, just simple meals, nothing fancy.

xxx

Ruprekt · 21/04/2013 22:18

BIWI · 21/04/2013 22:21

Claire - here is a post from another thread:

I came across the food diary I kept when I first started low carbing, last January (before I started Bootcamp), and if it might help anyone, here are my first week's meals:

1 x pork steak, fried in olive oil with baby Brussels sprouts in butter
Full fat natural yoghurt
Roast chicken leg with roast cauliflower, dried chilli and onion (roasted in olive oil), swede pureed with butter and cabbage with black pepper and butter
4 x coffee with semi-skimmed milk, 2 litres (min) water (1 x tap/1+ x sparkling)

TUESDAY
1 boiled egg
Roast chicken leg with leftover cauliflower, cabbage and swede
Roast chicken wings with leftover cauliflower, cabbage and swede
4-5 x coffee with ssm, 2 litres water (1 x tap/1 x sparkling)

WEDNESDAY
1 boiled egg
2 x M&S sausages, ½ yellow pepper fried and boiled runner beans
Small piece Feta
Idiot Proof Diet Moussaka, leeks fried with chilli flakes, broccoli
4 x coffee, 2 litres water (3/4 still/1+ sparkling)

THURSDAY
1 boiled egg
2 x M&S sausages, ½ yellow pepper fried and boiled runner beans
Small portion moussaka
Marinated salmon steak with stir fried veg (onion, baby sweetcorn, red pepper, mangetout, chilli, pak choi)
1 x Berocca, 4 x coffee, 2 litres water (1/2 litre still)

FRIDAY
2 x poached eggs, dab tomato sauce
2 sausages, pan fried with broccoli and leftover stir-fry veg
Chicken tikka, spinach bhaji, cauliflower bhaji (take away)
1 x Berocca 3 x coffee, Prosecco/wine, ½ litre water

SATURDAY
2 x rashers back bacon, 2 x fried eggs
Atkins Daybreak bar
Roast pork, crackling, red cabbage with butter and raspberry vinegar, baby sprouts with butter
1 x Berocca, 3 x coffee, ¾ litres water, wine

SUNDAY
1 x boiled egg
Left over pork and red cabbage, with crackling (one potato lattice)
Atkins Day breakbar, cheese
Grilled fillet steak and salad (restaurant)
1 x Berocca, 3 x coffee, wine, ½ litre water

During this week I went to the gym twice, one session was on my own and the other was with my trainer.

Despite the alcohol at the weekend, that week saw a loss of 3.75lbs.

OP posts:
BIWI · 21/04/2013 22:23

These menus aren't really Bootcamp because:

  • the number of cups of coffee daily means a lot of carbs in milk
  • alcohol!
  • Atkins bars
  • not enough water at the weekend

But apart from that, they are pretty low carb

I want to join too but have a couple of questions. Can I eat fruit?

And

I have some Greek yoghurt with honey and some lemon curd yoghurts. Can I eat those?

thenightsky · 21/04/2013 23:41

NO honey or lemon curd! And NO FRUIT!

I used to be a fruit-aholic, but after reading up discovered that it is made up of 20% sugar. Avoid. Eat veg instead.
