Just to give you a couple of weeks advanced warning, so you can think about it, plan for it, etc.

Lost loads on the first Bootcamp and I've flirted with low carb but have mostly been off it since Christmas. I know I've out a lot of weight on, clothes are tight and I have a muffin top again so it's time to get back on board.

The crunch came at the end of the week when I got terrible pmt, which completely went when I LC'd last time. I'd like to start tomorrow, but I know I don't have the relevant supplies in.

I will miss my fruit yoghurt & granola breakfasts.

milliemoomay · 21/04/2013 23:50

This sounds exactly what I need... where do I sign up? And ditto to the fruit question from twinklestar?

Ruprekt · 22/04/2013 00:15

No fruit Milly!

Bootcamp starts nx Monday SmileSmileSmile

milliemoomay · 22/04/2013 06:34

Thanks Ruprekt... have had a read of the rules now .

One more Q and sorry if it's already been said - how many g of carbs a day is considered low-carb? I think I saw somewhere that it is 20g - is that right?

Tortington · 22/04/2013 06:47

update re parmesan biscuits

they were pants.

it might hae something to do with the parmesan coming out of a packet - and also becuase i haen;t a clue what im doing

thinking on variations on a theme with shortcrust pastry though, thinking cinnamon - cinnamon aids weightloss i read in crappy magazine at gym (fyi) :)

Tortington · 22/04/2013 06:47

millie - 20 g is recommended for induction

BIWI · 22/04/2013 08:18

millie - there's no real definition of 'low carb' - different plans have different levels. Atkins induction (the first two weeks of the Atkins diet) is 20g whereas Dr Charles Clark has 40-60g carbs per day. Dr Briffa says a maximum of 100g a day.

Everybody has a different level of carbs that they can tolerate.

On Bootcamp the whole point is that you don't need to count carbs. If you follow the rules then you will be restricting your carbs and you will lose weight.

Twinkle
No fruit in the first two weeks of Bootcamp. After that, you can introduce berries. But you have to be very careful with fruit as it will quickly increase your carbs, so you will need to restrict fruit.

Check the carb counts on your yoghurt. I suspect that they will be very high! Honey is another form of sugar, which isn't allowed on Bootcamp.

I'm back in. I've had a couple of weeks of, let's say, slightly stressful times (DM is poorly - bone scans, major ops and scary drugs poorly, laptop has been in Apple store being put back together, I've been a bit ill, etc).

DH and I are still low-carbing and enjoying it - my BMI is just under 21, his is around 23. I don't want to lose weight, just learn more about LCHF and offer support if/where needed.

TheOrchardKeeper · 22/04/2013 08:35

Is it silly that I'm getting nervous? Grin

have been slowly cutting down this week to try and make the first week easier and I swear I'm having withdrawal symptoms...?

BIWI · 22/04/2013 08:36

Just shows how addictive those pesky carbs can be, TheOrchardKeeper!

OP posts:
TheOrchardKeeper · 22/04/2013 08:39

True. If anything it's making me more determined to stick to this. I didn't realize it was so addictive but the less I'm eating the less I feel like eating...whereas the general healthy eating idea is sort of harder as I always end up overdoing it on the carbs cake Hmm Grin

twinklestar2 · 22/04/2013 09:15

What about the vitamins and minerals that you get from fruit, will I be ok without these? I'm trying for a baby so want to be healthy as well as lose weight.

BIWI · 22/04/2013 09:19

You will get all the vitamins and minerals you need from vegetables and salad.

The idea on Bootcamp is that your carbs should come (mainly) from veg and salad, so you will be eating plenty of them. If you're really worried, you could always start taking a good multivitamin - but if you're TTC, are you taking any supplements already? (I assume you're at least taking folic acid?)

Hello. I think I am in. Been doing WW since Jan 2011. Lost 33 lbs. Have spent since last September gaining and losing the same weight. Am very fed up.

I have done Atkins and Charles Clarke in the past. DH likes it too. And it's BBQ season which helps. Happy with BBQ meat and salads for dinner. Hopefully the weather will improve!

I have the Briffa book on my kindle but haven't read it yet. Will do so over next few days. He did a talk at a conference DH was at a few years ago and DH was quite impressed with the theory.

My only problem (well prob not only problem!) with bootcamp will be that I have a lunch on the 2nd in London which is a set menu of Thai food. And a night out the following night. Food will be ok but alcohol might not be! Bacardi and diet coke was my drink of choice when doing Atkins. I'll bear that in mind if needed. Friends I am seeing are champagne drinkers though.

I desperately need kicking up the bum and a change of approach. I need to lose at least 4 stone. Off to states in July for almost a month. Would love to lose 2 stone by then.

PirateShit · 22/04/2013 11:45

Hiya. I think I will give it a shot. Where can I find the rules etc?

PirateShit · 22/04/2013 11:46

Sorry, just seen the spreadsheet and rules etc. Will have a good look. Thanks

Not really - just bear in mind that you're looking to eat in the following proportions:

fat:protein:carbs

So as well as using fat to cook with, and to add to your food (butter on your veg, mayo on the side etc), also think about the type of protein you're using. Try to avoid lean meats/fish and go for fattier meats.

It take a bit of getting used to, because it's totally the opposite of what we've all been told to do over the last 30 years!

Welcome, Buda!

Just to say, Thai food is probably the worst you could have if you're trying to low carb, as everything has sugar in it. But there are times when it's just impossible to stay on plan, so I'd be tempted to say just accept that you won't be able to do low carb on that day. But make sure that you are super strict for the 2-3 days afterwards.

Also, re alcohol, artificially sweetened mixers aren't really allowed on Bootcamp - the best drink would be vodka and soda/sparkling water, with a slice/squeeze of fresh lime. I like golden rum with sparkling water and lime.
