Just to give you a couple of weeks advanced warning, so you can think about it, plan for it, etc.

And roast swede is lovely, just in case you didn't know/had forgotten. Again, lots of olive oil, salt/pepper and chilli flakes.

Where do you get low carb tortillas from Custy? I can't get any low carb stuff round here.

I'm in for Bootcamp but plan to start on Monday as I have a holiday booked in May so need to lose some by then

Lukethe3, on sugar there's 'pure white and deadly' by John yudkin (the 'original' book) and 'fat chance' by Robert lustig. I'm reading them both at the moment, and got them from the library

Lukethe3 · 19/04/2013 06:30

Willie- which is the better one?

Report
AuntieMaggie · 19/04/2013 07:02

custy you should be able to get ground almonds in most supermarkets - i get mine in aldi by the baking stuff!

Report
WillieWaggledagger · 19/04/2013 07:37

it's not really a case of one being 'better' as such - one sort of follows the other. the yudkin book is the 'classic' and was first published in the 70s. the lustig book was published last year, so it contains more up-to-date research findings

I would love to join the next bootcamp please. I'm not sure what my weight is but am the heaviest I have ever been. I don't seem to be able to get out of the cycle of 'snacks' and working from home means I tend to graze and it's all carbs.

One question I have a fish allergy what would be good to replace the fish with?

Tortington · 19/04/2013 13:23

i get low carb stuff either from www.lowcarbmegastore.com or avidlite ( might be avidlife?)

thanks Maggie - had a look in lidl this morning - no - so will keep in mind when I next go shopping,

I'm in again please! I have been low carbing for nearly 2 years now - if I eat anything with sugar in it I get horrid tingling in my fingers and toes - very odd!

I been trying a bit of 5:2 fasting as well to mix things up a bit - just got a pesky 1/2 stone to lose now (I think!) .....

Off to make the Parmesan shortbread - not sure how I missed that before!!

Snowball - chicken thighs / shin / pork belly / lamb breast are all good LC options. They are the fattier cuts so lots of flavour - just cook for ages - mmmmm.

Nigella's recipe weights look about right, replacing the flour with ground almonds, obviously.

Did someone say low carb nachos??
Report
snowballinashoebox · 19/04/2013 15:14

Any tips for between now & then? Is it best to try and slowly cut down between now & then to reduce the impact, cravings etc? Smile

Report
WillieWaggledagger · 20/04/2013 10:24

If you can I would try cutting down yoni. Also if you can get as much of the most tempting carby foods as you can out of the house prior to starting. And stock up on plenty of low carb foods (eggs, cheese, butter, leafy green veg, double cream, meat, fish etc) and do some meal planning too have a good look at the recipe thread and pick out your favourites. One of the best ways of battling the initial carb cravings (whih will be worse if your diet was previously very carb heavy) is to make sure you have some really delicious meals to look forward to
