Just to give you a couple of weeks advanced warning, so you can think about it, plan for it, etc.

Checking in! Sort of fell out of contact during the last thread, had lots going on with work etc and slipped for a few weeks. Happily back on the bandwagon now though, and feeling GREAT!

I have SO much energy, feeling so well in myself! I think I'll probably join in the bootcamp to give myself a little 'whizz' though Grin

DoingItForMyself · 16/04/2013 16:43

checking in! Was mostly lurking on the last one due to cheating with sweetners etc not having much to contribute.

I am going on holiday in May and my BF and I are both hoping to lose a stone before then LCing. I will be easing myself in with protein shakes etc until the start of bootcamp proper and recording any progress until then.

Already feel better after 3 days without the evil wheat!

ReallyBerylStreep · 16/04/2013 16:52

Yes count me in.

slatternlymother · 16/04/2013 17:53

I have looked for LC pancakes on the threads, but I don't know if I just keep whizzing past it... Could someone link me to some, please? Thanks

Ruprekt · 16/04/2013 18:04

Cream cheese pancakes

Scoop cream cheese
1 egg
Sprinkle gr almonds

Whisk together. Fry in rounds in pan with melted butter.

Signing up

I've followed this WOE before & loved it

Been more off plan than on for the last few weeks & am really suffering - bad skin, bloating etc

I'm back at home tomorrow after a few days away with work so will be getting back on the LC wagon in preparation for Boot Camp

Thanks BIWI for starting this thread & introducing me to this WOE Thanks

slatternlymother · 16/04/2013 19:01

Thanks rups! Bet they're amazing with blueberries in xx

Ruprekt · 16/04/2013 20:22

I put blueberries and double cream on them! SmileSmile

I'm interested in low-carbing and thinking of joining this. I'm currently breastfeeding though (DS is 6mo), and been told I'm not supposed to do any serious dieting while doing that. Not sure if this counts as serious dieting though (although a lot of you are losing weight fast, well done! :) ), or is it more healthy eating?
Anyone got any advice -do you know if a major change of diet could affect milk supply? Anyone else low-carbing and breastfeeding? Could I do a 'low carb light' thing? (I guess that's not in the spirit of a bootcamp though...)

whattodoo · 16/04/2013 20:49

Any previous boot campers (can I call you that?) - is this relatively easy to do while cooking for the rest of the family?

Ruprekt · 16/04/2013 20:55

Dh and I are low carbing. We cook meat and veg for all of us. Boys dont like fish so we do alternatives.

Very easy to low carb for whole family.

Cook chilli. We have with cauliflower and boys eat rice. Same with spag bol. Spaghetti or courgette strips.

slatternlymother · 16/04/2013 21:19

I don't even cook rice anymore, I just serve chilli/curry in a big bowl and grate cheese over the top Grin

WillieWaggledagger · 16/04/2013 21:39

Cakeandcava there have been people who have previously low carbed and bf at the same time. Hazchem possibly? I don't know whether she's joining this one though

Doshusallie · 16/04/2013 22:04

My boys just end up eating low carb meals too! Salmon with green beans and broccoli; curry with broccoli instead of rice; roast meals and they'll have spuds I won't; shepherds/fish pie with mashed swede or celeriac....

FrameyMcFrame · 16/04/2013 22:09

Hi, I'd like to join... I like things that dont start today!!!

TheChaoGoesMu · 16/04/2013 22:10

Can I do this if I don't eat meat? (I eat fish though). Or is it too limiting? I need to lose 2 stone.

WillieWaggledagger · 16/04/2013 22:19

Absolutely fine chao not to eat meat - you can have fish pan-fried or roasted in butter, plenty of oily fish like mackerel and salmon, tuna mayo etc. There are recipes on the recipe thread for low carb fish cakes and fish pie iirc

Tons of options and shouldn't be too restricting at all

WillieWaggledagger · 16/04/2013 22:20

One of my favourite things about a new bootcamp is that new people create new recipes as they get the hang of the WOE

BIWI · 16/04/2013 23:33

whattodoo - I never cook anything different for the rest of the family (unless I'm going to be out, like tonight when I made them risotto!)

Either we all eat the same, or I just don't have the carb component of the meal. If I'm cooking something like sausages and mash, I will have celeriac or swede mash instead - or just extra veg/salad. But - here's the thing - the family doesn't have to have the carb component either! So often I'll cook us all a meal which is low carb. So my 'meat and 2 veg' will be just that - but the veg will be low carb veg. On Saturday, I cooked slow roasted lamb shoulder, which was done in the slow cooker with shallots, chilli, garlic, olives and tomato. Alongside that, I served braised cabbage with shallots, and braised fennel with lemon juice. Yes, there were obviously carbs in there, but it was significantly fewer carbs than if I had served rice or potatoes.

Would love to join this, think i would like this woe. Already lost 2.5 stone a year and a half ago on ww but couldn't shift final stone and now its creeping up again!!

My only concern is budget. Limited budget can I do it? Meat can be expensive compared to pasta, rice etc. Already eat masses of veg and salad am concerned how much it's going to cost to get enough daily protein? Any suggestions?

Also what about lentils and pulses where do they come on the low carb factor?

BIWI · 17/04/2013 12:35

BruisedFanjo No - don't eat fruit - you will just undo all your hard work so far!

Eat a piece of cheese or some olives.

You need to make sure that you are eating enough fat, and you also need to make sure that you are getting enough sodium/magnesium/potassium in your diet. Make up a hot drink using some Marmite or Bovril to get the salt, cook with salt and add salt to your food. Good foods to include are spinach, avocado and salmon.

whoamiiam

You can do this on a limited budget. Cheaper cuts of meat are fattier, so they are actually better for low carbing anyway. So things like chicken thighs, shin of beef, belly pork and breast of lamb are all really good. Eggs are brilliant low carb food, and they aren't expensive.

Lentils and pulses aren't brilliant on Bootcamp as their carb levels are a bit too high, but once you reach your target weight and are maintaining you can experiment with re-introducing them. They are certainly better than white bread, pasta and jacket potatoes!
