Anyone interested in joining WWB on a weight-loss support thread for the REAL heavyweights?

I can't take the credit for this as it's not all my idea ... but I think it might be a good one and wondered if anyone else with a LOT to lose would like to join with me and suejonez to shift some weight?

I'm not talking about being a size 14 and needing to lose a stone - I'm talking people who are size 22+, those who have a really serious amount of weight to shift. Skinny minnies need not apply Wink - I'm thinking that maybe we would have to be a minimum weight or size so that we know we're all in the same boat together, and we know that everyone on the thread understands how we feel and the problems that we face once we make the decision to lose weight. Perhaps people who need to lose at least 5 stone?

I weighed myself today and have scared myself with what the scales said, and so sue's email couldn't have come at a better time - but I am hopeless at dieting on my own, and thought that maybe the support of others who understand about having lots of weight to shift would be good. As suejonez said in her email to me, we know all about losing weight, we've probably done it a dozen times before, we know exactly what to do and how to do it. We don't need to be told what to eat or how to eat it, we just need the support of people in a similar position to give us the nudge that we need to get on with losing the weight. Standing in front of a WW leader is daunting, maybe owning up to your weight to me would be less intimidating (well, maybe not ... Grin). But at least you'll know that I have as much (and probably more) to shift.

If anyone's interested we could have a weekly weigh-in, whether we post our weight on the thread or just the weight loss would be something we could think about before we set up the thread. I would be happy to have people email me their starting weight and their loss, so we could have a weekly round-up of how we're doing. We could even do something similar to WeightWatchers - set interim targets, get a virtual gold star for every 7lb lost, you know the sort of thing.

Come on, I know there are a few of us very large women out there - shall we do something about it?

I liked the freedom of the WW plan. And kept the weight off for a long time until I stopped going to classes (they closed) when I put it all back on.

I think I have to accept that I am a food'aholic and will always be have to be careful of what I eat.

I've been brave and just emailed to join WWB.

I weighed myself and I weigh 17st 12lbs

So that means I've got 7 stone to loose before DD1 starts school next september! Shock

I can do it! Grin

Yeah, was just thinking that if I lost the weight, I'd probably keep going back to WW regularly. ANYTHING to avoid the physical sensation and mental angst that comes with being v. overweight. I really don't want dd to grow up with two fat parents who do no sport...

It's a lifestyle change, innit..

I'm thinking of scheduling all the sports stuff I can tolerate so there is at least enjoyment in the exercise. I can't stand the idea of the gym (although my 'Fit for Life' referral from the GP involves attending gym and pilates classes for a few weeks... I think it would take me much longer than that to get hooked on the gym, LOL).

I don't mind badminton, walking and cycling in nice weather. Can ski too. Would ride a horse if I didn't think it was cruel at my weight ! Hardcore gardening would also be useful...

Is it just me, or do you lot imagine a group of Mumsnetters standing behind you when you think about food now? In a good, supportive way, that isGrin. Knowing that you're all out there too, going through the same stuff, is very reassuring.

suejonez · 10/05/2006 16:50

I have plenty of hard core gardening Hub2D if you're anywhere near London - only thinking of you excercise plan (so caring of me).

JackieNo - I had exactly that thought when the pasties were calling to me yesterday - what on earth are you going to tell Mumsnetters if you crack?

hub2dee · 10/05/2006 16:58

I'm N London, but I think you'll be able to find a gardener with a much stronger back and smaller fingers to help you locally ! Grin

DW has a close friend in Dulwich who does gardening, if that helps !

There are loads of posts on here now ! I was rubbish and didn't email my weight but have just done. Didn't make it to WW on Monday as my Mum wimped out at the last minute and I didn't want to go on my own. Spent a few days procrastinating about whether to do WW or SW and have finally decided stick with WW as I don't seem to lose very well on SW these days. So this is day 1 for me and I need it to be a good one as I had another attack of gallstones last night and I'm finding it very hard to cope with as they are quite frequent now.

WigWamBam · 11/05/2006 09:59

I'll start a new thread, I think - new thread for a new week.

Kittypickle, hope you're feeling better now.

I'm finding \link{http://www.weightlossresources.co.uk/lostart.htm\this site, Weight Loss Resources,} really useful (thanks again, Serenity Smile). I'm usually hopeless at calorie-counting, so end up eating unlimited amounts Shock, but I quite enjoy doing the food diaries on WLR - it makes it incredibly easy. AND if you do some exercise, it works out the calories for that as well, and adds it to your food allowance - very rewarding. I'm still on the free 3-day trial, but you can bet your boots I'm signing up to it.
