Anyone interested in joining WWB on a weight-loss support thread for the REAL heavyweights?

WigWamBam · 07/05/2006 19:40

I can't take the credit for this as it's not all my idea ... but I think it might be a good one and wondered if anyone else with a LOT to lose would like to join with me and suejonez to shift some weight?

I'm not talking about being a size 14 and needing to lose a stone - I'm talking people who are size 22+, those who have a really serious amount of weight to shift. Skinny minnies need not apply Wink - I'm thinking that maybe we would have to be a minimum weight or size so that we know we're all in the same boat together, and we know that everyone on the thread understands how we feel and the problems that we face once we make the decision to lose weight. Perhaps people who need to lose at least 5 stone?

I weighed myself today and have scared myself with what the scales said, and so sue's email couldn't have come at a better time - but I am hopeless at dieting on my own, and thought that maybe the support of others who understand about having lots of weight to shift would be good. As suejonez said in her email to me, we know all about losing weight, we've probably done it a dozen times before, we know exactly what to do and how to do it. We don't need to be told what to eat or how to eat it, we just need the support of people in a similar position to give us the nudge that we need to get on with losing the weight. Standing in front of a WW leader is daunting, maybe owning up to your weight to me would be less intimidating (well, maybe not ... Grin). But at least you'll know that I have as much (and probably more) to shift.

If anyone's interested we could have a weekly weigh-in, whether we post our weight on the thread or just the weight loss would be something we could think about before we set up the thread. I would be happy to have people email me their starting weight and their loss, so we could have a weekly round-up of how we're doing. We could even do something similar to WeightWatchers - set interim targets, get a virtual gold star for every 7lb lost, you know the sort of thing.

Come on, I know there are a few of us very large women out there - shall we do something about it?

I am massively pedantic about my own grammar and mistakes but don't really care about other peoples, as long as I can understand what they mean - is that odd?

I have lurked on a fe arsey shouty threads - I quite like them I think they're funny on the whole. I lok forward to getting very shouty about weight loss - as in - HURRAH I'VE LOST WEIGHT.

I was more concerned (though obviously not apologising for Wink) about telling people what to do! Terrible habit of mine.

WigWamBam · 09/05/2006 14:35

Ah, a bossy-boots ... just what we need to keep us in line Wink

Hi Marina ... do you know, I had never, ever pictured you as being big, or having a problem with your weight. It's funny the pictures that you have of people.

Just wondering if I could join. I've got about 4 - 4 1/2 stones to lose and am a size 18. I'm only 5ft3, so look enormous. Was a bit overweight before getting pregnant, but really ballooned during pregnancy after 16 weeks of severe sickness. After DS was born, just kept eating. I know all the right things to do, but just enjoy my food too much!!!! Also, I tend to eat when bored or emotional. Am about to join local slimming club, so hope that will help.

PinkKerPlink · 09/05/2006 15:29

I dont feel fat in my head either :(

its madness isnt it?

I have had a corned beef sandwich and some strawberries so far today oh and a packet of wlakers, so ok so far if i am thinking I am ww points and not an actual diet Wink

serenity · 09/05/2006 15:50

I'm with you on that, I'm always shocked when I see my reflection. My internal image has got stuck at the age of 16 I think!

suejonez · 09/05/2006 15:53

I'm Ok with my reflection. Provided its only a face sized mirror.

PinkKerPlink · 09/05/2006 18:35

I have already gone to pot Blush I am so so sorry. i had a BK for tea

luckily though i have no wine in the fridge so should be okShock

WigWamBam · 09/05/2006 18:49

OK - first thing, don't apologise ... I think suejonez was right when she said we don't apologise, we just move on. Tomorrow's another day and all those other cliches.

Says she who refused the lemon meringue pie offered by dd's friend's mum and then gave in when said pie kept being offered again and again ... sounds as if you haven't eaten a lot otherwise though, KPK, so not too much damage done. Just put it behind you and start again.

ok total food today
2 weetabix (semi skimmed milk)
mini bag cadburys fingers
small bag toffee popcorn
ham & mustard sandwich
cheese & pickle sandwich
beef hula hoops
tube smarties
macdonalds cheeseburger
singapore fried rice
curry sauce
chips

It's disgusting when you write it all down. Sad
I feel slightly sick now. Sad
I think I might have a cry Sad

WigWamBam · 09/05/2006 20:05

Don't cry, it doesn't help. You're the only person who can control what goes in your mouth, and if you look at your list you can see what you ate today that you maybe shouldn't have done. So start tomorrow, and make small changes - don't have the chocolate biscuits, popcorn, Smarties and crisps - if you feel it's important that you're not deprived then have one of those things, but make it just one a day. Choose a treat, and make sure that when you eat it you savour it and really enjoy it.

Takeaways - not brilliant but not exactly something to hang yourself for. But again, limit them - if you like to eat takeaway try to only have it once every couple of weeks, and don't have two different ones in the same day.

Take something positive from this - you know that what you've eaten today wasn't the best choice you could have made, and you can set yourself a goal to try and make sure that you chose differently tomorrow.

PinkKerPlink · 09/05/2006 20:15

WWB, I reckon you cut and pasted that list and was drooling over it secretly in your study:o I know i was

rose, dont worry chuck. Just try harder tommorrow

Has anyone seen my willpower? I think it disappeared sometime after lunch. BlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlush

anchovies · 09/05/2006 20:27

Aero - I think our willpowers must have eloped together. Oh well, tomorrow's another day...

serenity · 09/05/2006 20:45

I think the important thing is to not use a 'bad day' or moment as an excuse to give up.

Draw a line under it and start again.

Writing it down really does bring it home I agree.

Do fancy some Smarties now though Grin

Littlefish · 09/05/2006 22:14

Feeling quite good today. I went to Salsa-cize last night, and yoga tonight. Not bad re. food, as I haven't eaten any snacks today. Meals still much too large, but I'll work on the snacks first and then look at portion sizes.

MUST DRINK MORE WATER!!!!

WWB - I'll be brave and e-mail you with my starting weight tomorrow.

Rosebea - don't be sad. We're all here to support each other. And believe me, we've all had days like yours, and we all understand how low it makes you feel. Just make up your mind that tomorrow you will make one small change (or 2!) just as WWB says and you'll feel so much better by this time tomorrow because you will have achieved your daily goal. Smile

suejonez · 09/05/2006 22:17

I lost quite a bit of weight a year or so ago (pre IVF Sad) and had chips once a week every week, and proper chip shop chips too, not that McD's rubbish skinny malinks chips.

I had a few rules

Either fish OR chips but not both, and had that with my own tin of baked beans
Only had them after I'd been to Aqua on a Friday night
Was really good during the day in order to earn my treat.

I loved it - am planning to do that again. (I reckon they're about 800 cals or 10 weightwathers points)

suejonez · 09/05/2006 22:19

Aero - go out there and chase that willpower down, catch it and bring it back. You will burn off loads of calories.

suejonez · 09/05/2006 22:22

Well my news for the day.. (you have to bear in mind my obsesion with buyng food on the way home to stave off certian starvation on the journey)...

Worked late (bad news a long time since lunch when I got to the station)...

Had to wait for a tube for ages right by the warm sausage roll and pasty seller...

I finally cracked...

And bought a diet coke and an Evening standard (to keep my mouth and my hands busy).

I'm so ridiculously pleased with myself, you'd think I'd lost a stone.

Now I just have to do it again tomorrow.

JackieNo · 09/05/2006 22:23

WWB - have emailed you with my starting weightSad. Have done mostly ok today, but DH out tonight, so have had a bowl of ice creamBlush, plus a very small bit of DS's Lindt chocolate bunny (left over from Easter), and 2 chocolate rice cakes. Oh dear - well, onwards and upwards (or downwards, hlpefully, weight-wiseGrin).

JackieNo · 09/05/2006 22:25

That was 'hopefully'Blush. Well done suejonez -- very impressedSmile.

Aero · 09/05/2006 22:49

SJ - have now consumed most of the remaining garbage following my parents weekend visit and am planning to find my willpower tomorrow. No more rubbish is coming into the house - I find that just not buying it is a big help!

When I lost weight after ds1 was born, I had fish and chips, or other takeaway treat weekly too - right after I got weighed. I think this is what made it seem easy at the time - I never felt deprived really - just enjoyed a cal splurge once a week then got back on the sensible wagon the following morning.

Aero · 09/05/2006 22:52

SJ - you found my willpower - lol!!! Now, can I pleeeease have it back?!! Wink

Seriously though - excellent - well done that woman!

suejonez · 09/05/2006 23:08

I'll fight you for it
