Thank god it's not just me bessie. I ate my own bodyweight in roast parnsips (but forgoed the yorkies and only had half a spud) yesterday.

Up to you MrsHP, I suspect you are right, but I am now back at home so have no further excuses, and tbh am fed up with feeling so bloated and huge and really looking forward to a de-carb! See you on Tues. Enjoy Easter Monday Wink

BlackAffronted · 01/04/2013 09:52

Lavender, Ive had my periods messed up by this woe. I didnt have any for 10 years, then spotted for 12 days when I started LCing :( This month a I spotted very lightly for 2 days. I do think it will settle down. I read somewhere that fat cells release estrogen when they let go of teh fat, so we get a hormone rush.

Of course its fine to eat fresh veg, meat & fat forever :) If the cavemen survived fine on it, cant see why we cant? :)

Im back on the LC wagon today, just had my BAB of steak and eggs

BIWI · 01/04/2013 10:22

Lavender - I suggest you do a bit more reading about this WOE. Only then will you be able to reassure yourself. I really recommend that you read "The Diet Delusion", by Gary Taubes. It is a weighty tome, but massively thorough.

What I really, really don't get is why someone would even contemplate that a diet based on fresh meat/fish, vegetables and salad, with natural fats like butter and olive oil might be harmful?

Given that we know that there is no link between eating fat and getting fat, or between saturated fat and heart disease, then what's the issue?

Whereas we do know that there is a link between high carbohydrate consumption and:

weight gain
obesity
diabetes
cancer
Alzheimer's

Need I go on?

I really think I should do another mini bootcamp to give me a whoosh!!

thenightsky · 01/04/2013 10:45

Lavender, I've had so many people say 'but what about your cholesterol'? I never really know how to answer that. Am I going to die of furred up arteries and a stroke?

BIWI · 01/04/2013 10:50

Another book really worth reading is "The Great Cholesterol Con" by Dr Malcolm Kendrick,

And here is Zoe Harcombe on cholesterol

Spiltthetea I have put on 6lb. Oops. I am really looking forward to going back to lc eating though. We have been staying with friends and for a number of reasons I couldn't eat low carb while there but I actually missed it. We only stay with them once a year though and they are lovely so it was worth it.

spilttheteaagain · 01/04/2013 15:06

On track so far
B. Scrambled eggs with spring onions and cheese, buttered spinach. Greek yog with about 7 blackberries and small sprinkling flaked almonds and seeds
L. Cold roast beef, coleslaw, garlic butter mushrooms, salad of romaine lettuce, spring onion, cucumber, radish. Coffee with cream.
D. Planning a chicken and broccoli bake with a sauce of mayo/cream/chicken stock/curry powder, a little cheese on top with celeriac chips and fried courgette.

I feel much better and less huge! Though (TMI) two big poos this morning may have helped with that too Grin

Know what you mean about missing LC eating bessie. I just felt like a totally out of control thing, like a runaway train or something just hoovering all the carbs regardless of my brain saying "NO! You don't want to do this...!"

MrsHeggulePoirot · 01/04/2013 15:35

tea so far you've shamed me into getting back on the wagon so far today Grin

I have bacon eggs and cheese for breakfast and have turned down all chocolate biscuits offered so far...

Been swimming today as I realise my swimathon is only 4 weeks away and I have yet to train. Also made bread and cake but not going to eat any myself. No siree

I was a ST on Friday and Saturday. Not too bad today. Decided to have a gin tonight then back on it tomorrow. Looking forward.

Loving the support and chat. Thanks ladies.

Hey folks, I'm on holiday in the North Yorks Moor Park. No phone signal but we have internet strangely enough.

Holidaying with family is fraught with danger. I thought I had done superbly well last night with roast beef with cabbage and mashed swede, avoiding spuds, parsnips and yorkshire pudding. Did not know that some people put flour in their gravy. I had lashings of the stuff.

No cramps but lots of noise from my tummy this morning.

I'm not going to be able to avoid some carbs this week. I guess I can make up for it with Uber Camp next week.

timidviper · 01/04/2013 22:15

Hi all, I have been a sugary twat this weekend but am in "LC suspended animation" at the mo due to being away this weekend and next. I'm just trying to minimise the damage until I can back to the WOE without distractions. Had a lovely weekend away though Smile

MaryBeardfanclub · 01/04/2013 22:32

LavenderH to be fair to your friend there is a helluva lot of misinformation out there - including a whole website dedicated to trashing dr atkins (atkinsexposed) and numerous scientific studies rounding up the evidence and declaring lc diets to be dangerous, one is even called quack watch. So, it's an emotive subject hence her shoutyness I guess. LCHF is really the opposite of low cal/low fat and they both cant be right. Plus it's pretty hard to stomach that you've swallowed the official line and been taken for a fool for 30 years to serve the interests of Big Food and Big Pharma.

BerylStreep · 01/04/2013 23:50

Can anyone tell me what a BAB is?

Valdeeves · 02/04/2013 03:49

Hi guys,
I'm back with you - after a series of little crisis's - I've fallen off the wagon and need help getting back on. I am also coping with two weeks of almost no sleep due to a teething baby. Been great reading the catch up!
Motivate me please xxxxxxxx

Lavenderhoney · 02/04/2013 03:58

Thanks everyone:) I'm going to read a but more so I have better answers.

And thanks black, I'm going to book with the gyny anyway to see what's going on.
Had some chocolate and some red wine. I am slipping with the water drinking.

After half term I'm going to dig out an excerise DVD and do it when I can.

LaVidaLoCarb · 02/04/2013 07:50

BAB= Big Ass Breakfast.

EwanHoozami · 02/04/2013 08:13

Although I've only just hopped back on myself. I found Easter trickier than Christmas for LC eating, probably because I was staying at my mum's and she'd 'forgotten' about how I eat. I add the inverted commas because it's actually my stepfather who cooks and he thinks this WOE is nonsense and neither she or I can be arsed with the row (isshoooooos!)

Beryl - BAB is big-ass breakfast I think, although I don't know what it entails exactly.

sybil, how far do you have to swim for a swimathon? Not 26.2 miles?

MaryBeard - what's the deal with unfermented soy beans? do you mean the tofu? I love the stuff but have been steering clear because of an unspecified worry that it's no good but have never quite found the definitive info...

BerylStreep · 02/04/2013 08:42

Think Briffa may have something to say about soy, something to do with oestrogen I think. Will look up later and post.

Ruprekt · 02/04/2013 10:09

BAB.....huuuuge breakfast of sausage, bacon, eggs, mushrooms, spinach.....this keeps you going way past lunch and through til dinner.

Keep up with the water everyone!

Ruprekt · 02/04/2013 10:12

And remember that we don't want to put all the weight back on before the next bootcamp.

Went out for dinner to friends last night and ignored the mash. Had beef stew with cabbage and a small piece of bread pudding with cream.

Weighed this morning and have put a pound on.

Am back on bootcamp today with lots of water.

heirtotheironthrone · 02/04/2013 10:28

Easter was MUCH trickier than any other 'festive' thing - the past few days have featured chocolate, hot cross buns, cocktails, pudding and a billion Mini Eggs, I am pretty Blush and refuse to weigh myself until next week.

Back on it today but really, have been so STUPID.

Yama · 02/04/2013 10:31

I'm definitely putting on a few pounds on this holiday. However, I know they'll come off again next week so I'm no too bothered.

Breakfast was 2 bacon and 2 eggs, fried in goose fat.

We are heading to York for the day so I'll have lunch there. Dinner will be a slow roasted pork.

I'm finding the hardest thing on holiday is keeping up the 2.5/3 litres of water. Ach, as dh keeps saying - we're on holiday so stop worrying.
