timidviper thankyou for the reassurance I don't think I'm ready to go it all alone yet.

I have been hungry all day and have spent a lot of time eating:
B - duck egg scrambled with butter, smoked salmon and creme fraiche
S- Parmesan shortbread
L - prawn cocktail and raw spinach
S - 2 babybels
D - celeriac fondant, sprout crisps, spinach, sea bass and broccoli with anchovy, garlic, lemon and Parmesan

Dinner was really delicious but I feel as if I should be oinking now. I am about to have total with cream.

colette · 12/03/2013 22:07

How can this be week 10 already ?
Where is the recipe for the parmesan shortbread please ? It sounds delicious.

thenightsky · 12/03/2013 22:30

Right... bracing myself for 4 days in Brighton! For train travel tomorrow I shall take a couple of Babybels in handbag and half a dozen brazils.

Hope I can find something to eat out ok. Evening meals should be ok (fish and salad etc) its just the lunches while out shopping that will be difficult I think... I'd normally have sandwiches/pannini/baked potatoes etc.

Ruprekt · 12/03/2013 22:42

colette

25g softened butter
1 egg yolk
cayenne pepper or paprika
15g parmesan
80g ground almonds

Cream the butter and add the cheese. Mix with pepper and add egg yolk. Mix. Add ground almonds and squish together until you have a shortbread consistency. Flatten and put on tray. Bake for 10 mins til golden brown. Slather in butter.

Tis addictive, what is not to like?????

thenightsky · 12/03/2013 22:45

it's lovely spread with cream cheese too

timidviper · 12/03/2013 22:52

I don't like cheese much, I can cope with a touch of it on or in stuff but couldn't eat it alone so how cheesy is this shortbread? I wonder would it work with less cheese...

MyHeadWasInTheSandNowNot · 12/03/2013 23:14

Anyone have any idea what I could use to 'bind' the 'shortbread' other than egg (I don't eat egg) - it sounds good :)

BIWI · 12/03/2013 23:16

Could you try it with a bit of creme fraiche/yoghurt, MyHead?

I am curious. ...not all calories are equal...am I right?

So in fact I could be eating a larger number of calories and still br losing weight. ....

or is the LCHF actually making me eat less l?

Just wondering Smile .

BlackAffronted · 13/03/2013 06:50

thenightsky - I usually manage to grab a salad somewhere out at lunchtime if I have to. Subway do lovely ones!

BlackAffronted · 13/03/2013 06:52

JB, calories are NOT equal! How are our bodies use a fat calorie and a carb calorie are different. :) I hope you are not cal counting?

BlackAffronted · 13/03/2013 06:54

Just having my BAB - cheese omlette and a hot protein shake. Im trying to eat 50g of protein for breakfast each day as part of the leptin reset I am doing - and it really seems to be working! Apart from my sicky day, I have not snacked nor wanted to between meals plus I am starting to see some of the other benefits listed as part of leptin sensitivity.

JakeBullet · 13/03/2013 07:38

Hell no Grin ....stopped calorie counting after BIWI sat me on the naughty step for it Wink .

Actually have reread the chapter in Briffa this morning and it now makes much more sense. Smile Smile

Am out all morning at the local special needs office. Not hungry but have forced down a couple of spoonfuls of mashed cauliflower and 20g of chedder....mini individual pack hence being precise.

Will take one with me for mid morning and some fizzy water. My friend went to Costco yestetday and when I hot home there were a dozen bottles of Highland Spring by the back door...big 1.5 litre ones. So delighted I was....sent him huge thanks.

LavenderBriggs · 13/03/2013 08:04

Morning all. I'm still trying to get my head around the amount we've lost - 600-odd pounds of fat - gone - away on the breeze. Clever us.

I had a lovely experience yesterday. I made some tiffin and when I was cutting it into discs I ate some of the left-overs. It felt very strange indeed - I don't snack any more, so to be snacking felt bizarre. It's taken 10 weeks to wean me off nibbling stuff. Even more clever. And I've had a bit of a whoosh - I think I was 9 stone 3 this morning, but my eyes hadn't been awake long enough to focus. Will see if it stays off.

Big thanks to whoever introduced the BAB concept Thanks I had chicken and scrambled eggs yesterday and didn't fancy lunch until after 1pm. I used to be starving at 10am Grin

BlackAffronted · 13/03/2013 08:39

BABs are ace Grin they have definitely changed my bootcamp experience!

teaandthorazine · 13/03/2013 08:45

Am dying to get hold of some of that teapigs liquorice tea, sounds amazing. Is it only Waitrose?

Had a cup of ordinary builders this am with a splash of milk - this is the habit I found hardest to break last time! Am not sure that a weeny splotch of semi skimmed (like my tea STRONG) is a tragedy in the long run though...

Lunch today will be ham/cheese/olives/snacky bits

Dinner will be beef stirfry with lots of green veg. May have some lidl yoghurt afterwards (woohoo!)

Feel so much better just thinking about this WOE. Don't know why I ever stopped (well, the bumper tin of Xmas Roses might have played a small part...)

BIWI · 13/03/2013 08:50

I'm very glad to hear it!!!

Calories are definitely not equal. Let's imagine you eat the 'normal', 'healthy' diet of a bowl of cereal, with skimmed milk (of course), a glass of orange juice and a slice of wholemeal toast with low fat spread (urgh).

All those calories will do is deliver a massive amount of sugar into your blood stream which means you have to produce a huge amount of insulin to deal with it all. Some of the sugar will supply your immediate energy needs. The rest will go to your glycogen stores, for future energy needs - and the rest (and there will be a lot left over) will be laid down as fat. So even if these calories were from low fat foods, you will still be laying down fat.

Contrast this with a breakfast of, say, scrambled eggs made with butter, a cup of coffee with a splash of cream, and some cheese. Whilst protein does produce some insulin, the levels are much, much smaller. Any sugar that your body does produce from this (which will not be a lot) will be used either immediately, or go to your glycogen stores - which are usually empty when we're low carbing - but in the main, this amount will fuel immediate energy needs.

So these calories aren't laying down fat.

Definitely not equal calories!

BlackAffronted - tell us more about leptin resistance and what you are doing to 're-set' it, please - sounds very interesting.

Hello everyone. So pleased this is still going and you are all doing so brilliantly well .

Can someone please link me to a list of veg carb counts per 100g? BIWI very kindly sent it to me yonks ago but I've since updated my laptop.

BIWI · 13/03/2013 09:59

Hello, LittleFrieda!

Here's the latest spreadsheet

If you look at the tabs at the bottom, you will see one for the veg carb counter, as well as lots of other brilliant resources

LittleFrieda · 13/03/2013 10:22

BIWI - thank you so much. Am off to educate myself.

EwanHoozami · 13/03/2013 10:56

Ach that shortbread sounds great but nuts seem to make me stall (this was the pact I made with the devil in order for dairy not to affect me Wink )

Unexpected meal out yesterday - I can confirm that Carluccio's is good for LC eating. I had their fish and chorizo stew, lovely.

B: scrambled eggs with edam
L: avocado and bacon salad
D: haddock fillet with purple sprouting and lemon hollandaise

A good food day!
