Week 9 - New Year Low Carb Bootcamp - Nearly there ...

BIWI · 04/03/2013 07:49

So we enter the last two weeks of Bootcamp. Still time to drop another 2-4lbs!

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to come and confess all.

Remember, at the bottom of the spreadsheet is a tab for Ubercamp, if you fancy three strict days.

Good luck!

Furry, my DH has given up smoking with the vapour thingy as well. he has cherry, vanilla and blackcurrant vapour liquids! He hated the tobacco flavours and hasnt touched a real cigerette in 5 weeks. Very proud of him.

Just been given the date for my sons eye surgery, Im a bit nervous about it :( Its just cosmetic, he has a squint & they are going to straighten it, but I feel guilty for putting him through an op & pain for his looks. I had it done myself at his age, and I am very grateful that my mum went ahead with it, so I hope he thanks me one day.

Have just got home from Zumba, so its shower & early night (it totally tires me out). Only managed just under 4 litres of water today :(

spilttheteaagain · 06/03/2013 20:33

You and me both nell. In our house 1 tub of that yogurt disappears every bloody day! Shock Not just me, I hasten to add, though I do have it for "pudding" after every meal. DD also has it three times a day, and DH twice. They better keep making the stuff!

Ladies, my new breakfast.... I give you buttered broccoli and boiled eggs (about 5 mins, so you can halve them and plonk them on the broccoli and the yolk is soft but doesn't dribble out everywhere). Lots of salt and pepper. Gorgeous.

And courgettes lightly fried in butter, with mozzarella. Fabulous, and was lunch with a pork steak and half a tomato.

A good day today.
Yesterday I was really missing my old food and wanting some cheesy pasta bake and other much loved favourites. In the end we went, erm, mindfully off plan after a disappointing dinner and made a small batch of scotch pancakes (but with oats) which were lovely.
And then I woke up this morning feeling all undeprived due to the lovely treat and very much looking forward to a proper low carb day.

ChoosandChipsandSealingWax · 06/03/2013 22:04

Woohooohooooo black!!!! So happy the Whoosh Fairy has finally visited you! You bloody deserve it, you have worked so hard at this, and stuck with it despite getting disheartened - well done! Thanks

Welcome crazycatlady - the unsweetened Alpro soya and Alpro light are also very low carb (just don't go anywhere near the Original with its allegedly "subtle, sweet taste" Hmm)

MsRinky a pound in champagne Grin Good and well-deserved celebration!

midnight I'm glad you're out of the hospital and hope the not knowing is not too worrying.

timid well done on the trousers back-handed compliment - love it!

jake hope today's meeting went well with the PMA - my DS is also autistic but only about to be 4 so all that is still ahead of us, not looking forward to it, it is a long and hard and often lonely journey - my sympathies Thanks And hope you survived the party!

half joining you on the naughty step I fell into a couple of poppadoms last night - had asked DH to order me just chicken tikka and veg and then he ordered loads of poppadoms and said "I didn't realise you weren't allowed them" Hmm when I've told him I can barely have carrots and tomatoes Hmm and he's reasonably intelligent Hmm and the bloody things were sitting too enticingly in front of me and I caved, bah. I have been so good up until now on the food front but think it is partly that I am demob happy about my fortieth and going away.

Mmm those breakfasts sound yummy spilt!

Me today:
B: boiled egg and ham
L: left over takeaway (but just the chicken and veg this time)
S: kids' meatballs
D: tuna and very garlicky french beans, I'm afraid also with some wine

JakeBullet · 06/03/2013 22:16

Am deleting the MyFitmessPal app as its freaking me out. All that "fat is bad for you" stuff has run deep.

ChoosandChipsandSealingWax · 06/03/2013 22:34

Oops sorry jake just saw that you did update us on the party - sorry it was so tough (parties are hell with my DS too) and very well done for resisting!

Bessie123 · 06/03/2013 22:37

I do not need a hot cross bun. I do not need a hot cross bun. I do not need a hot cross bun.

NellVarnish · 06/03/2013 22:46

BESSIE!

STEP AWAY FROM THE HOT CROSS BUNS!

halfthesize · 06/03/2013 22:50

chooseandchips popadoms yummyGrin though of course we will never be bad againWink

Bessie123 · 06/03/2013 22:57

Grin it's ok, I won't eat one

But I want to

MrsHerculePoirot · 06/03/2013 23:03

Good plan jake!

Well another win at netball tonight and another good day - I had a treat of diet coke in the pub with a packet of pork scratchings - I know how to live on the wild side!

B - three rashers of bacon and a coffee
L - salad with chicken and chorizo
D - cauliflower cheese and leftover lamb kleftiko from Monday

Tonnes of water, a diet coke and pork scratchings in the pub.

Just seen a mouse in my house though downstairs and it has freaked me out. I know it can't hurt me, but I just hate the scurrying around out the corner of my eye.

NellVarnish · 06/03/2013 23:37

Grin I know the feeling Bessie, that awful pull towards something you know is no good for you but you STILL WANT IT!

Bessie123 · 06/03/2013 23:59

Yes, nell. And I bought a big bar of mint chocolate today. I don't know why because I'm not going to eat that either (honest). I keep putting on then losing then putting on the same half a stone and I have a couple of stone to lose. I am about half a stone off a comfortable size 12 so I at least have to hold off being a sugary twat till then

JakeBullet · 07/03/2013 06:04

Felt like I had lost no weight so far this week so stood on scales just now....I can confident,y say I am headed for another good loss this week Grin.

Feel better after the nightmare at yesterday's rollerskating party.....so so hard when DS is like this as just no reasoning with him and he becomes obnoxious and rude while sobbing hysterically.....I just wanted to cry too. Thank god he suddenly settled down and then enjoyed the last half of it. Now he wants roller skates and lessons Hmm

Was so so proud of myself resisting the crisps as I am a crisp addict (really and truly) and an emotional eater. They are going in DS's lunch box today.

Have an interview day as well......9:30am- 2:30pm, being assessed for my suitability as a Family Support Worker. Hope I will do fine as I am an ex HV and loved family support work. The potential employer has said that they will "provide lunch" but I will take cheese, ham and salad with mayo and drink water.

Iamaslummymummy · 07/03/2013 07:19

Jake

My son is 7 and also on the spectrum. I sway between happy if he is invited to a party and worried about whether he'll cope. Has only been invited to 1 party in 2 years though Sad

2lbs down today from last week pre-toilet. Still not down to 150.4 which is my lowest during bc but down to 151.2 which I'm happy with. Smile

I can't buy any hot cross buns. They are my down fall Blush

MaryBeardfanclub · 07/03/2013 07:22

well done jake

bought some pulled ham hock from wait rose for a snack yesterday (my office is above a lovely big wait rose [expensive]
on the back of the packet under the nutrition guidelines is a table showing guideline daily amounts as follows:
calories 2000
fat 70g
saturates 20g
salt 6g
sugars 90g

I was Shock at the last one - sugars 90g... it's supposed to be 50% of intake and the maths don't add up (90g fat x 9 cal = 810 cal; 90g sugars x 4 cal = 360 cal that's only 1170 cal Confused)

no wonder we have an obesity crisis on our hands

I had a quick peek at a 5:2 thread cos my mum is doing a diet where you eat normally 5 days then drink milk and eat veg only 2 days and she has lost weight - just reading that thread made me realise how i have changed - a lot of the suggestions for diet days were processed c**p eg packet soup. A year ago I would have thought that was normal. So glad I found this woe. To sum up Zoe Harcombe (love her) "Eat real food"!
Grin

halfthesize · 07/03/2013 07:24

.Jakewell done for resisting crisps and good luck for today.Smile
I am just having a lovelyBrew and then have tonnes of housework to do after school/pre school runs, but still feeling rough, this silly bug seems to be lingeringSad
Bessie well done for resisting temptation, honestly after my blip earlier this week I can assure you it's not worth itHmm

WillieWaggledagger · 07/03/2013 07:26

fantastic black, so pleased the scales are moving

bravo jake on resisting last night under such difficult circumstances. it really is one of the hardest things to do, and if you've done it once you can do it again. good luck for today!

LavenderBriggs · 07/03/2013 07:39

Morning all.

Being between jobs is still being stressful. I got some freelance work which had to be done 'now!', hang on, the info isn't right, hurry up! Panic! Got that all done and sent off on time, but I kind of wish I was back to structured working days.

Well done to everyone who is resisting bready snacks - I stopped eating bread about 18 months ago because I'd worked out that it was making me fat and bloated. I was working in a team and a colleague brought in some hot cross buns - they smelt gorgeous, they were all shiny and pretty and I thought 'I haven't had bread in ages, how could one bun hurt?'. Very big mistake that. I was doubled up in pain, had a huge bloated tum and had to keep rushing to the loo. They are very pretty and they smell lovely, but then again, so do scented candles.

One quick question - I've been having ham with my scrambled eggs, but I don't want to eat as much processed meat, what is a good addition to scrambled eggs?

TheEarlyBird · 07/03/2013 07:57

Hi BIWI - I am preparing to go it alone when you abandon us after next week :). I am reading John Briffa's Escape The Diet Trap and think it seems like a good route for me. Will I do ok on it and do you have any advice on portion control for things like nuts/fruit etc which I am worried might derail me. Really sorry to be pestering you - maybe it's all in the book - but I really want to have your opinion. .

spilttheteaagain · 07/03/2013 08:22

Lavender you could try customising the eggs?
I like them with spring onions, chilli and grated cheese. Give the onions and chilli a min in the butter before you add the eggs, and then sprinkle in the cheese when the egg is almost done.
Or dried thyme added to the egg mix, and then a sprinkling of cheese again.
You might want an extra egg if you do these though to make up for the lack of ham.

They are also good with garlic butter mushrooms.

BIWI · 07/03/2013 08:24
Grin

I won't be abandoning you - we will keep a rolling chat thread going, so you need not fear!

I can't really tell you how much of anything you should be eating, because everything is so individual. That's the task for all of us as we reach our target weight - to work out what we can/can't eat to maintain our weight.

What you mustn't do, of course, is suddenly increase your carb intake massively. That way madness lies! But start off by adding a small amount - say an extra portion of fruit, or a handful of nuts. And see what happens.

The other thing that Briffa says is that as long as you're following the WOE 80% of the time, you will be fine. So if Friday is pizza evening, nothing to stop you having pizza if you want to (and if you can tolerate it, obviously).

But you need to be super-vigilant. My own rule of thumb is to have a 5lb 'margin'. So identify what you desired weight is, that you want to maintain, but accept that your weight will go up occasionally. If it goes more than 5lbs higher than your desired weight, then go back to a few strict days.

TheEarlyBird · 07/03/2013 08:43

BIWI Thanks - love the 5lbs (or for Europeans like me - 2kg) rule. Will be my new mantra :).

Off to finish reading Briffa. I think my challenge now is healthy, sustainable woe once I have shifted those pesky last 3kg

BIWI · 07/03/2013 08:46

Ah yes. That last pesky half stone ...

OP posts:
LavenderBriggs · 07/03/2013 08:47

Thanks Spilt, that sounds lovely. I think I"m being a bit lazy because opening a packet of ham is so easy, but I'll start thinking about this properly. I've already had breakfast, but my mouth is watering at the thought of buttery spring onions and garlic in my scrambled eggs Smile

QuickLookBusy · 07/03/2013 09:14

They've just mentioned on the news about eating too much processed meat. I think I buy too much of the stuff for lunches and snacking- ham, little cooked sausages, salami, Parma ham etc. May have to have a rethink.

I'm very down in the dumps this morning. I was supposed to have a day out and then meet friends for dinner yesterday. I've got a bug so spent all day on the sofa. Dh did go and meet the friends for dinner. Guess who was on the next table? My future second husband Johnny Depp.
I am beyond miffed, I've missed my chance haven't I Sad

DH said he was with a six foot, beyond gorgeous woman, who had on a flesh coloured body suitHmm. Well in my dreams he took one look at me and whisked me off forever. Do you think I'm a bit delusional? Grin.
