Crappy loss this week, less than a pound and a half.

I know it's still a loss etc etc but I just really don't want to lose momentum now, not when I'm so close to healthy. I've got just over 8lb to go and I'm determined to do it in the next 4 weeks.

This week will be a test to say the least as I'm going out on Saturday for a friend's birthday and she's decided on a Real Ale tour. It takes in at least 7 pubs and starts at 9:30 in the sodding morning. It will be interesting to say the very least. If I'm not in bed by tea time I'll be very surprised! (I don't even like Ale but I've been assured there will be other local tipples on offer)

I'm going to have to do some sort of 5:2ing to compensate for it but there's no way I'll be able to log the calories accurately so it's going to be a case of hoping for the best. Hence why I needed a decent loss this week. Angry Oh well, not much I can do about it now.

The cakes are definitely going though!

BsshBossh · 10/04/2013 14:41

Randall don't let a small (for you) loss demotivate you so close to goal. Last Autumn I lost just 4 lbs in 4 months and I wasn't een close to goal. Did I give up? Um... doh!

BsshBossh · 10/04/2013 14:41

*even

Lizzylou · 10/04/2013 15:22

Bssh is right Randall!
You can't keep losing at the rate you have been, it will level off.
Just keep doing what you are doing (fabulously, might I add) and enjoy Saturday. You have a good few days to recompense afterwards!

Well done on the loss.

RandallPinkFloyd · 10/04/2013 15:22

You're right, I know it, I need a good kick up the arse and you are more than qualified to do the honours so kick away please!

I'm still a long way from my 'goal' but to get into a healthy BMI seemed like an impossible mountain back in January so to be so close and have things slow down is so bloody frustrating.

kalidanger · 10/04/2013 17:39

Please don't feel down Randall You keep on keeping on! Are you exercising? My loss by poundage is disappointing after the heady 4lbs loss a while back but I'm swimming and walking and I feel great and having to bin unwearable falling-down jeans. It's not all about stark numbers Smile

I swam today! Hate lazy idiots who hog the ends of lanes and get in my way. And are you here to swim or to chat? Angry And can't you judge your own speed and all you slow coaches gather in the same lane? Angry I'm not exactly any bloody good at it myself (I am a bit) and I just want to slog up and down for half an hour IN PEACE and not stopping is a test and will you just FUCK OFF THE LOT OF YOU.

Blush

And I gave myself blisters walking there so I can't wear those shoes again for a while and, actually, swimming is quite expensive isn't it? £5+ for non-members and I can't afford to join this month Sad

I'm waffling, sorry. Working from home and not spoken to anyone today Grin

BsshBossh · 10/04/2013 19:40

Randall I think what got me through a relatively negligible loss in last year's last quarter was that I was liking what I was seeing in the mirror. I'd reached 168lbs from 210lbs and was enjoying how being in the 160s looked and felt, even though I still had a way to go and even though I was am still squigy and saggy all over. I was am enjoying relatively high calories but I knew I was still in a weekly deficit so I was am enjoying life. I remember thinking that it all feels good. I hardly ever weighed at that point - perhaps once a month of every two months (and still wasn't exercising).

Come the new year I started exercising and started fasting and I think it must have shaken my body up a bit 'cause that's when I started losing again.

Stick with it - 1.5 lbs is more than I lose a week (on average) but it's coming off slowly and steadily. You don't want to give up now do you and add the lbs back on? What a waste of your time!

Lizzylou · 10/04/2013 21:01

Kali, oh my goodness, that is exactly what I hate about swimming!
Just don't ever go to a ladies only swim session, eh? You would combust!

Have done spinning then body combat. My arms ache. And it was well weird when the sweet petite spin instructor turned into violent badass combat instructor. She was saying things like: you are in the street, fighting, now hit them in the face
go for the chin, punch them in the HEAD!!,,
Most disconcerting.
Strangely pleasing though!

TeaMakesItAllPossible · 10/04/2013 21:33

I think I need body combat in my life Lizzy ... having watched kungfu panda 2 yesterday I am feeling a little fighty. Pushed DS3 in a bush on the way back from school today but I want moves!

Kali You are so blelly right. Talking swimmers who dawdle need to be mown down. But so do fast swimmers who swim in the slow lane rather than medium or fast. I hates them too. Feckers. Ruining my flailing stroke pattern.

Bssh is wise Randall you crazy, lovely, high-expectation lady you. You are doing brilliantly. some weeks i lose nought, then bam, 3lbs gone. Personally, I would allow 5-6 weeks to lose 8lbs due to the non linear nature of loss. See what happens next week. But Bssh's suggestion to mix it up for a couple of weeks to trick the body into keeping up the loss is wise. I've had to do it a number of times. Perhaps adding in an extra 30 mins to Randalldog's walk or a couple of weeks of 2:5 or summit. You will get there. In mid-May we will have our summer, and you will be healthy and will be looking good in your shorts.

I want a friend that does real ale pub crawls.

I tried to run today and as a result am able to confirm I have a chest infection. being asthmatic is sometimes very, very dull and quite frightening.

Got called back for a second job interview today which after a week of shite rejections, arguing with stupid interviewers, insulting offers etc. is a relief. I think I'm going to try not to be intimidating and arsey this time! But I need something to wear. Pinterest here I come Grin

I luffs you all Chiefs [inspired by fav and cuntiest threads emoticon]

Lizzylou · 10/04/2013 21:47

Tea, you are such a lovely nutter!
But yes, bodycombat was very liberating.

Ummm, is ds3 ok after the hedge incident??

Sorry for weird typing, dh got me a samsung notey tablet thing, am not v good at tech stuff. But it is beautiful.

TeaMakesItAllPossible · 10/04/2013 22:18

Oooooo. New tablet on the thread - is that the big phone? Nice. I love a new gadget. Writing looks fine to me on shite iPhone app Smile

He is fine. He was momentarily stunned into silence which was my prime objective and was not able to push me back. I did get called embarrassing for my efforts though. I really will regret my ongoing mission to show them they're lucky not to have an older sister when they grow a bit more. I am starting to find it really hard to pin DS1 to the floor to lick his face. I need to do insanity and body combat so I can continue in my quest.

Lizzylou · 11/04/2013 08:41

I pin my two down and lick their faces! My main worry is when they are too old for me to bite their bums, that will be a sad day Grin

It is a Samsung Ipad knockoff, very lovely and has a pen thingy (which I have no clue how to use). The boys are going to download me the Darth Vader does Gangnam style app though, so will be happy then!

I am back at last weeks weight, which is fab considering birthday weekend excesses and that I was 4lb up on Monday Blush

My arms ache to buggery after all that punching last night.

BsshBossh · 11/04/2013 14:25

How many calories in "a lick of child's face"? Grin

BambieO · 11/04/2013 14:28

You are all putting me to shame! I am going to do a jillian double tonight if it kills me!

TeaMakesItAllPossible · 11/04/2013 15:20

lizzy I will be talking about you for ever more now ... when the boys say 'it isn't normal, no other mum does it' I will be saying ' but Lizzy does, and she bites bottoms'

RandallPinkFloyd · 11/04/2013 19:00

Arf at all the random child related violence!

I love biting DS. When he was a baby I used to chomp on all his delicious fat folds. He's got fabulous apple cheeks too, the perfect mouth full.

He's 20mo now so the folds are going but he's still lovely and chubby. His favourite thing is to run round completely naked shouting "he's in the nip!" while I chase him shouting "where's that dimply bum" and trying to bite it Blush

BsshBossh · 11/04/2013 20:35

Those of you who do weight training (even if only a little) - do you use free weights, machines or a bit of both?

Really starting to think about adding in a muscle-building programme to my exercise regime (and reducing the cardio a bit) and am getting terribly excited by it (I used to weight train on machines loads when I was late 20s and loved it).

I just want to dip below my goal weight by a few lbs first as I know my weight goes up when I start training.

TeaMakesItAllPossible · 11/04/2013 21:10

Free weights for me. I luffs them.

Only time I ever use a machine is when using a 30kg+ for squats because you don't need a friend to help. So use a machine once every couple of months.

BsshBossh · 11/04/2013 21:13

I guess I worry about correct form... I figure I'll start on machines which will "support" me as I get used to weights and increasing weights then when I'm more "seasoned" I'll move on to free weights. Hmmmm perhaps I will mix it up a bit right from the start...

dinkydoos · 11/04/2013 21:24

Right, I'm back from 10 days food/wine holiday debauchery. Have studiously ignored mfp whole time (whilst chanting who are ya to it, in rebellious fashion)
And now v definitely much rounder.
Should fast tomorrow but may just start like a good girl on Monday. We will see. Hope all you chiefs have been beavering away like good uns, will have a read back and see who has been good!

TeaMakesItAllPossible · 11/04/2013 21:37

Welcome back dinks hope you had a lovely time. We've all been brilliant, no chocolate, no booze, loads of exercise and no children violence Grin

Bssh by form do you mean how you stand? Or over training muscle sets? Or summit else completely? If you're worried about free weights ask the dudes at the gym or pay for a couple of hours with a trainer - they know loads of stuff. Or just watch Jillian - the basic process for free weights is the same as a shred just freeweights might involve a kettlebell, a rope, handweights, medicine balls etc. If you live near me I would happily do a couple of sessions with you.

BsshBossh · 11/04/2013 21:46

Yes, how I stand, range of movement as I lift and lower the weight. I am due a free training session at my gym, think I'll book it... Have also got loads of fitness mags (eg Oxygen and Fitness RX from the US) so am gorging on them on fast days in lieu of food Grin.

Welcome back Dinky!

BsshBossh · 11/04/2013 21:49

PS Tea thanks for the kind offer of a few sessions. You are lovely :) Will pass for now but only in the name of anonymity.

Lizzylou · 11/04/2013 22:06

Bssh, I too am worried about the free weight bits. Seems always to be full of pumped blokes. I do hand weights at home ( kettlecise instructor is fab re form) , but would love to be able to go to the gym and lift properly.
Randall, my boys are 9 and 7 and still love a squidge anda bumbite. I ache fir a 20 mth old boy though, fab age!
Tea, I also kiss necks. Fgs, I was 48 hrs in labour with 1st and 2nd was 10 lbs 11oz, I will kiss/lick/bite at will!

TeaMakesItAllPossible · 11/04/2013 23:01

now that is impressive.

Oh the sniffing of a small boy's neck with a sneaky kiss. That is heaven. Ok I'll add in that you 'kiss necks too'.

Yes, the free session, that is really useful. As are kettlebell group sessions or a bootcamp. All do variations on the same basics: squats, thrusts, chest, core, arms, back in sets of 12-16 with a bit of cardio between. I have found the results around my butt, upper arms and waist really effective. They don't have to be heavy weights. Though doing heavy lifts once in a while does make you muscles stronger.
