Yay it worked! Glad we can avoid all that pestilence.

Now someone needs to come up with a compelling reason for me to attempt an exercise DVD tomorrow, despite my living room being really quite full of 5 flat-pack Ikea wardrobes. Not sure I can even reach the DVD player actually.

OP posts:
kalidanger · 19/03/2013 21:13

Isn't pestilence supposed to be quite slimming? Like D&V bug? Hmm

The compelling reason to do the DVD is your continued successful weightloss But the practicalities sound a big eek. Can you stand the flat packs against the wall? Slide them behind the sofa?

RandallPinkFloyd · 19/03/2013 21:28

Lizzy you don't sound shallow and obsessed at all, you sound motivated. And you're doing a bloody amazing job at it too.

Kettle, all my favourite things involve food and/or booze. It sucks Sad
I just have to try to make sure I rein it in when I can and keep my mind on the weekly rather than daily goal. The alternative is just too miserable to contemplate and I know I wouldn't stick at it.

Bambie, see at wagon in the distance? It's pulled over to wait for you don't worry, just jump back on in the morning. No harm - no foul.

Kali go swimming

KettleCrunch · 19/03/2013 21:29

Double if you do the DVD then the flat-pack Ikea wardrobes will PUT THEMSELVES TOGETHER through the sheer force of your success. And if you don't do the DVD, then the flat-packs will multiply forever, and every time you assemble one, three more flat-packs will spring up in its place.

RandallPinkFloyd · 19/03/2013 21:30

Double just build the furniture instead. The blind fury alone will burn eleventy million calories. Grin

KettleCrunch · 19/03/2013 21:43

By the way I've changed my MFP username to KettleCrunch so it's the same as on here :) feel free to add me!

DoubleMum · 20/03/2013 07:43

I can't move the flatpacks - not even an inch, they are too heavy. For reasons much like that one I can't build them on my own either, and I fear if I try to build 5 wardrobes that might be the end of my marriage.
On the plus side that 1/2 lb has gone like the wind, ha ha in your face licked spoon!

OP posts:
Lizzylou · 20/03/2013 08:57

Yay Double!
Hide the spoons now!

Have lost 1lb, early weigh in but am taking it Grin, such slow progress but feel healthy and more toned. People are starting to notice which is nice.

TeaMakesItAllPossible · 20/03/2013 09:14

Morning Chiefs.

That's great Lizzy and Double. And love the fact you're feeling more healthy and toned Lizzy.

5 wardrobes Shock

I've got my Mum coming tonight to look after the kids so I'm hoping for a noticing that I'm 9/10ths the person she last saw too. But I won't hold my breathe - I don't tend to get a look in the first evening due to the over excited GC wanting to show her everything Grin

I will never lick a spoon again without either saying in my head or out loud "haha, in your face spoon licking""

LillethTheCat · 20/03/2013 09:29

Sooo is this the thread for MFP then?

What do you do if you don't cook and dont want to tell DH (or whoever does the cooking) that you are calorie counting?

I did start the week thinking about the 5:2, but after a disastrous start I actually think I might be able to manage this if it's what I think it is.

Do I just stick to under 1500 calories inc exercise everyday with this plan?

KettleCrunch · 20/03/2013 09:39

Hi Lilleth! I reckon if you don't want to tell DH you're calorie counting you could do more exercise and then say, 'Wow, this exercise is weirdly making me less hungry. Do you think I could have a smaller portion size? I just feel so active and energetic that I don't think I need as much as usual! I read an article somewhere that said this could happen...' etc. Or you could just eat the same food as DH for dinner but cut down on your breakfasts, lunch and snacks in a way that he might not notice?

I'm sure some other folks on here will be able to help you with finding out roughly how many calories you should be consuming. I think this thread is really all about eating less (but not excluding anything), logging on MFP and moving around more - the NHS-approved (I think) way to lose weight. Oh, and it's also about finding motivation! For example, if Kali doesn't go swimming then everyone on earth will die of a terrible pestilence. It's really very serious.

I had a sneaky mid-week weigh-in this morning and I weigh exactly the same. Sigh. I think I should probably drop my daily calories a bit more.

RandallPinkFloyd · 20/03/2013 09:46

Hi Lileth come on in, take a seat, tell us little bit about yourself.

If you put your height and weight and goal into MFP it tells you how many calories to have. It's a stingey bastard though so you can set your own calorie goal if you prefer.

If you really don't want to say anything to your DH just go for smaller amounts for now. When MFP tells you how many calories are in your mammoth perfectly reasonable sized portions you'll be too horrified to eat for the first few days anyway. Or was that just me? Blush

I'm RandallFloyd on MFP, I would recommend sharing your diary, it really is a great motivator. (Still living with the shame of my hula hoops and beer day)

Well done Lizzy, you're our very own Mr Motivator!

Very Envy of Double's gigantic house. I couldn't fit 5 wardrobes in my house never mind my lounge. I would recommend leaving for a week whilst someone else builds them though.

Lizzylou · 20/03/2013 09:58

Hi Lilleth!
It is easier if you can get your DH on board, but perfectly doable to make healthy, low cal tasty food for both of you. He need never know until you sashay around the living room parading your newly svelte body in a thong and tassels. Or is that just my personal goal?!

MFP really makes you think about your food choices and inspires you to exercise more. I am LizzylouM on there.

Randall is mistress of having a good old blow out at the weekend and then reigning it back in for a loss during the week. A rare talent indeed!

Grin Kettle @ pestilence if kali doesn't swim. We'll all know who to blame Kali!

Yes Double, I wondered how big a house would be to have 5 wardrobes!

Tabbykat · 20/03/2013 09:59

Morning chiefs! So, are you attempting Insanity Lizzie?

Have loads of work - three articles due in today so should really be doing that instead of fartarsing around on MN - ho hum. Trying to stay off the biscuits which is my usual deadline avoidance activity. Am determined to attempt R1W2 of c25k this afternoon while DD2 at pre-school as was just too rainy on Monday and don't want to fall behind or I'll never manage it!

RandallPinkFloyd · 20/03/2013 10:04

Now I just sound like a lush Grin

Lizzylou · 20/03/2013 10:11

Tabby, strangely can't find a memory stick for my friend to copy it onto Wink

I will not follow the programme (1hour a day 6 days a week for 60 days) as I am really enjoying running/spinning and kettlecise. Like variety. Will aim for at least 1 workout a week I think. I did see that the evil Shaun T who dreamt up Insanity does an Insane abs one that is only 15mins long. I could do that every morning.

LillethTheCat · 20/03/2013 10:17

Im 5ft 5 and weigh 11st 9. Id like to weigh anything between 9st 7 and 10st. Im a size 14 top and 16 bottom. Id like to be a size 10-12 so Ive not got a huge amount to lose. My BMI is 27 so needs to come down a bit too.

I enjoy running and have an exercise bike which never gets used although over the winter with the cold weather Ive not been exercising as much as I could. I do have plans to get my running up to 4 times a week.

In the past Ive found that during the warmer and lighter months its much easier to lose weight. This time last year I weighed 12st4 and I got down to 11st 4, but I have gained 5lbs since October. Its not bad going, but now its officially spring I want to start losing again. I only really lost weight last year as I took up running and stopped eating so much, but I didn't really look at my food in much detail. This year Im going to attempt to lose more than a stone.

Im not on MFP yet, but will be by the end of the day. Im just worried about how to add some of my evening meals when I dont have a clue how many calories or how big my portions are in some ingredients and meals, although of course for some things I can find out and will. I was thinking in days like that (once or twice a week) I should try to have 500 calories all day apart from that meal. Does that sound ok?

LillethTheCat · 20/03/2013 10:22

I dont want to tell DH as he always says Im average and he doesn't see why I want to lose weight. If I tell him about the health benefits etc he just dismisses them and doesn't really believe that one stone could make a lot of difference. Yesterday he said something along the lines of mocking people who starve themselves just to be slim because society says they should. He doesn't understand why anyone would want to not eat something that they enjoy. I guess he thinks that as I like cake I should eat it if I want.

Its just a lot easier to just get on with it and not really tell him Im actively trying to lose weight.

RandallPinkFloyd · 20/03/2013 10:34

You'd be surprised what MFP knows. You can always weigh your plate for "food soup" type meals like stews and chillies and things like that.

For example if you search for homemade spag bol you'll get plenty of results from what other people have entered. You won't get an exact number but you'll get a good idea.

LillethTheCat · 20/03/2013 10:43

Shock MFP has given me an allowance of 1200 calories. I was thinking it would be a bit more than that. Whenever Ive looked in the past about how many calories I use up in a normal day its always around 2000 mark so was hoping for 1500 calories. Oh well its only 300 calories less than I thought.

Feeling really scared I can't do this now.

KettleCrunch · 20/03/2013 10:47

You don't have to do 1200 calories. I failed when I tried to keep that up. If 1500 would be easier for you then I'm sure you'd still lose weight, especially if you're doing exercise!

RandallPinkFloyd · 20/03/2013 10:49

1200 calories is fuck all

It's fine for just a normal day but you're bolloxed if you want any treats at all.

That's why I prefer to look at it as a weekly goal rather than daily. Much more sustainable for me that way.

kalidanger · 20/03/2013 10:51

My bag is packed with cozzy & goggles and is sat waiting on the door mat. We'll make it through together, guys.

Lilleth My ex was an enormous pain about food. Not like yours at all, more overtly controlling Angry He'd insist on a big dinner with meat everyday and it was just THE WEIRDEST THING EVER, apparently, if I didnt fancy it or wanted a sandwich or apple & cheese or something. Since dumping him (yes!) 10lbs just fell off, and I settled back to Fat instead of The Fattest I've Ever Been Hmm Don't let yours control what you're doing with your body and health with his unhelpful opinions. He can have a view but it's not up to him

Oh, and calories; try using MFP while eating normally. You'll see how many cals you ordinarily consume and it'll give you a better idea of whether 1200 makes sense or not.

kalidanger · 20/03/2013 10:55

And for home cooked stuff - I weigh everything. I guesstimate cups but weigh pasta and veg etc. you'll soon get an idea of what you're doing.

1200 sounds low, I agree. Have you put in that you're very active? Weighed yourself today?
