I F - 5:2 - 4:3 - Maintaining the healthy weight

TalkinPeace2 · 01/02/2013 16:59

This thread is for those who have been doing IF for quite a while and are now at or nearing their target healthy weight.

How do we experience fasts and balance a stable food intake while having little or no weight to lose?

How to we ensure that this WOE does keep us at the healthy weight long term rather than revert to yoyo games?

I have now been at the same weight for a month. I'm happy with that. I'm also still enjoying the 24 hour fasts because of the clear mindedness I get during them.

How about you?

easy Border ( course you can ask!!your not scared of us eh? )..
copy this thread link location. then look up the top of the page and click on 'inbox' then 'compose new message' then email away!!

.. and Bobs yer uncle..!!

You just need to make sure you get her name right so if its Piebaldrider all one word , you'll need to put it in like that.
or if you find a post of hers all you need to do is click on 'message poster' on the blue line with her name on above her post

Easy peasy ..Go on, go on ,go on, go on !!Grin

Breadandwine · 04/02/2013 20:07

I've just done it! I went back looking through the last two threads - she hasn't posted on thread 11, had one message on thread 10 and two on thread 9.

(Didn't think of doing it through the 'inbox' - doh!)

I do hope she's alright!

Laska42 · 04/02/2013 20:15

B&W hello .. the crumpets tasted yummy!! less salt than a commercial variety I thought but thats fine..

Hope you are feeling better..

Hmm.. i've just eaten some dark choc..only 3 sqs so still in my 500 cals but why did I do that? (annoyed)

Breadandwine · 04/02/2013 20:16

Sorry - she only posted once on each of threads number 9 and 10. In one of her last messages, she said:
Hi just popping to say I?m still around and still on target ? sort of. This forum moves so fast now with so many new people, I am happy to step aside and make room for those who are just starting out and need to ask the same questions as all those who went before them.

And in thread no 10, she posted:
Hello to everyone new and old and an extra big hug to those of us that have been hanging around for a while now.

It's been 13 days, now. I'm getting rather worried. :(

Laska42 · 04/02/2013 20:19

border sorry.. should have said... PM is private message ..so its sending an email through mumsnet email which will also land in the email inbox that you used to register with , and is done as above Smile. so if you wanted to email me you'd do it that way..

Breadandwine · 04/02/2013 20:52

No better thanks, Laska - had a temp of 38.6 earlier and I'm in bed ATM.

But I'm feeling no pain - apart from achy muscles when I stand up.

I was supposed to be fasting today, but decided that would be a tad ridiculous.

As it happens I had a normal breakfast - didn't fancy lunch - and only ate half of my dinner, if that!

Yesterday my wife made us a stuffed apple each, but I couldn't eat mine.

Today I thought I'd have half of it for pud. However, I really fancied some sort of crumble with it. I couldn't justify making a crumble just for me, so I cheated by crumbling 3 Oatie biscuits (last three in the packet) over the apple - then I poured over the custard, and brought it upstairs with me. The crumble worked amazingly well - for the first few bites!

Then the Oaties soaked up all the custard and now I've got a solid mass of biscuit and apple that I've been picking on! :( However, all I have to do next time is double the amount of custard - or reduce the number of Oaties!

Glad you enjoyed the crumpets - and that's the beauty of home made stuff - you're in charge of the salt!

fretfree · 04/02/2013 20:57

Hi laska, I am starting to think about my maintenance routine so trying a few things to see how they feel (plus I am near to my target so a little turbo boost won't hurt :)). I am thinking of eventually moving to a modified 6:1, with one day total fast to get the health benefits and then maybe a half day fast to keep in check mid way. Saying that, I don't really go for breakfast that much, so I might have to have a think how to factor it all in.

What a nice end to a yucky event re the car prang! Good luck with trimming the hedge :)

Bordercollielover · 04/02/2013 22:09

Thanks Laska for the instructions and B and W for actually doing it! I will have a go next time.
Only longstanding person missing I can now think of is Manonboard, unless he is with us in disguise.....

Iwearblack · 04/02/2013 23:36

Feel a bit of a fraud as not at maintenance yet but feel happy with the WOE and could see myself moving to one 24 hr fast once a week when I am (note the confidence of 'when' not 'if'). Love the way people at work are used to me fasting - have left Dr Ms book lying round for others to be inspired!

Breadandwine · 05/02/2013 00:17

Only longstanding person missing I can now think of is Manonboard, unless he is with us in disguise.....

He may well be lurking, i guess. I contacted MOB back in November, after I hadn't seen him for a while and he replied:

Actually I have decided to no longer post as it seems what I write comes across as blunt and aggressive when I re-read them, which is not the intention. It all sounds fine as I am typing and it is a pity there isn't a 24 hour delay button so that you could retract stuff that might be misinterpreted, or as in my case correctly interpreted but badly composed. As I refuse to participate in the ose [sic?] of the detestable "LOL" it is not always apparent that the bulk of what I put is tongue in cheek.

I went back and said, well, OK, and I asked him to PM me when he reached his goal weight.

He was a very funny guy and I'm sorry he's not still around.

virginposter · 05/02/2013 00:39

B&W hope you feel better soon Smile It's good to know what happened to MOB but also sad as I agree he was a very funny man and made me laugh a lot. I don't remember his comments coming across as blunt and agressive, do you? I wonder if he could be persuaded to return on this new thread?

NatashaMousse · 05/02/2013 01:50

I second VP's comment above. MOB has a great sense of humour and I don't think he came across as aggressive at all. Would be nice to see him back here.

B&W, sorry you're still ailing. Maybe your reduced appetite is signaling that your body needs to conserve energy for recovery rather than digesting food. Have you tried sipping on just plain warm salt water, perhaps with the juice of half a lemon or lime and sweetener of your choice? That often helps me if I'm feeling a bit "off". Hope you feel better soon.

Laska42 · 05/02/2013 08:44

also girlwiththemouseyhair though i think shes americastourturedbrow now, and thinkIcan ..there must be more..
cyclistist and catsrus popped in earlier also .

are you all lurking you out there? Come say hello Smile
at work so shouldnt be here.. oops . back later

DontGoThereDaisy · 05/02/2013 12:11

Hi

As I lurked all over the first 6 boards of the last group before posting I thought I'd try to get one in earlier over here - I hope nobody minds - I'm not often a poster just a reader.

I have just done an 8 week maintanance, but I'm back trying to loose another 1/2 stone - so that I hover between 12:10 - 13 stone rather than 13.3-13.7 (as now).

I've started adding some (more) exercise rather than change the (working) fasting WOL. This is the first 'diet' I've ever done - previously a month (Jan or Oct) not drinking was enough to keep me in some kind of check but the last 3 years that hadn't worked for weight loss.

GreenEggsAndNichts · 05/02/2013 12:51

Since someone asked, I've lost 8 kilos, which is about 17.6 lbs, since starting in August. It's only recently started going down again, which has coincided with my being more active again. :) I find it very difficult to be out and about too much when it's so dark and cold. I think the weather is the thing I miss the most about where I'm originally from.

But, the days are longer now, and it's made a big improvement in my mood. I've also got that holiday coming next week. whee. :)

catsrus · 05/02/2013 13:07

I'm here - but also working (lunch break though! Just had a skinny soup) just needing to gently lose another 4-5lbs to give me the wobble room between 9st and 9st4lb where all my smart work clothes still fit Grin. I'm not bothered how quickly that happens now though as I'm experimenting with things like 16 hr fasts / 8hr eating window on 6 days a week and only calorie restriction on one of them.

This whole realisation about TDEE has been crucial for me really - the lighter I am the less I can eat before putting on weight - duh! So obvious but I was stuck with the 2000 cals figure in my head for an 'average' woman not the reality of the 1450 or so that I will actually need (desk job!)

TalkinPeace2 · 05/02/2013 13:28

So, ManonBoard worries about sounding rude in his posts. I'm buggered then as people who know me call me psychotic to my face! Helps in my line of work though ...

A lovely friend at the gym asked me if I was OK today. She is 'model looks' gorgeous and noticed I'd lost weight - among her friends that usually means marriage breakup. Turns out her brother is doing 5:2 as well ... All happy.

Catsrus
The variability of TDEE is interesting - I've known for a while that in my work weeks I have to either eat less or I put on weight - but the fact that my TDEE drops by 450 a day if I'm not at the gym really brought it into focus. Early morning swims may beckon.

frenchfancy · 05/02/2013 15:44

Just popping over to say hi. I'm not yet at target, another 3kg to lose (actually 3.9 kg as another pesky 0.9kg appeared this morning despite fasting and running yesterday). I will lurk on here though if you don't mind, the other thread is a bit repetitive at times.

virginposter · 05/02/2013 16:27

Well, I've had a lovely nsv. Last night someone told me I was looking lovely but that my jeans were a bit baggy, so this morning I tried on a pair of trousers I had put aside for when I could fit into them and they fit beautifully. My first size 10's (ok they are pull on casual ones but the label still says size 10) Grin

Iwearblack · 05/02/2013 19:08

Well done vp! I take a casual size 10 any day!
I liked MOB* too!

Iwearblack · 05/02/2013 19:09

Sorry that should have been 'I would take...' As ain't there (yet)!

Laska42 · 05/02/2013 19:11

Right. I'm asking for it..

After reading cats -who i've always secretly seen as my benchmark - post above I remember her despairing at getting below 10 and and shes now talking at maintaining 3/4 stone less!! Well done cats .

I realise that I need a serious maintenance strategy here.. and perhaps another boost to lose the last 7..

Lets face it , I'm a total exercise procrastinator.. but I do know what I'm like.. I work full time,(desk research job) I'm studying ,and my weekends are pretty tied up with DH and family and ill use any excuse not to exercise ..

I'm not going to go to the gym, i..I dont go out to exercise classes.. live in a Rural area and fairly broke ) I've tried blogolates and other things on you tube.. Didn't last , I've tons of unplayed exercise dvds...,I dont have a wii and when I went into the game shop to look at one ..I walked out again quick -its just not me.;

SO what I need is a buddy or three .. I need a regular kick up the ar$e to make me do 20 mins zumba-type exercise here at home a day and/or 40 mins out walking running..

I have a rebounder, a step ,a bike, some hand weights , plenty of zumba tracks and can get out to run.. I also have one of those ghastly sit up frames and dyna bands..

Will anyone be my whipping person?
I thought that perhaps we could start an exercise honesty group on here? .. ill tell you what i'm doing and you can pour scorn on me if I dont do it.(and vice versa)

I do cycle and hill/long distance walk at weekends though . What I need is someone to MAKE me do 20 mins cardio or strength training at least 3 times a week and walk/ run the other days and hold me accountable...

How about it?

Laska42 · 05/02/2013 19:16

We are all agreed .a great loss....he did make me laugh with the 'top of the morning' quip! ...MOB please come back..

B&W can you PM him again?
(hope you are feeling better or have had the doc in by now. you shouldn't be this ill for so long)

catsrus · 05/02/2013 19:27

oooh laska that sounds about as attractive as a diet Grin. I'm not an exercise person either - I was actually hoping to get away with the DR MM approach - walk a lot, stand not sit, run up stairs to the loo rather than plod along to the loo on the same level... you know, all that stuff that doesn't get you sweaty? Blush. Many years ago I used to go to the gym and quite liked the rowing machine... but it's cold and dark out there and my armchair beckons.....

But seriously, I only caught the end of the Dr MM prog on exercise (repeated last week) but what I did see gave me hope that I could get fitter by a more general change in habit than introducing exercise as such. So I bought a pedometer - and am really struck by the huge variation in movement I have during the week - depending on where I'm working.

I have set my phone alarm to go off every 30 mins at which point I will get up and walk around a bit - I have yet to decide how much of the evening I should give myself off!

PS - don't think I've been anyone's benchmark before Shock but was very pleased that my dd told her dad that I'd lost 2 stone (teeny exaggeration it's 27lb!) as just 2 yrs ago he left for the younger thinner OW - she's still younger but no longer thinner and he seems to have gained the 2 st I've lost so there's a nice bit of Karma Grin

SarahWithAFringeOnTop · 05/02/2013 19:59

I know what you mean Laska, I'm out in the sticks too. That's why I started the C25K, because it was cheap and available and didn't involve driving miles to get to a gym. Which wouldn't fit very well with the rest of my life anyway.
Though there are days when it is definitely really, really difficult to get myself out there and run. OK, jog. Personally I am a bit worried I might wuss out tomorrow because it's freezing and there's a howling north wind, and sleet forecast. I hate the cold Sad
