Can't link to this from old thread but thought I'd start a new one as the old one was getting full and kept crashing my kindle.

OP posts:

kali that sounds good. 150lb is 10 and a half stone?
I'm the same height as you, 40 in a few months and about 180lb I think.
My goal is to get to 9.7 but 10 would also make me very happy!

There's some good Cous Cous recipes on BBC Good Food.

DoubleMum · 24/02/2013 09:38

I haven't thought about an ultimate goal, too far to go before I get to that stage.

kalidanger · 24/02/2013 10:11

Sylvia Yes, 10.7. The .7 is important Wink I'm thinking less about specific numbers and more about the concept of being 50lbs less fat. And DoubleMum I absolutely agree that I too have so far to go that I can't quite get my head around it... Just allowing the half-formed thoughts of '50? Well, if the chiefs says that's sensible then maybe...' to float into my head. If you see what I mean Grin

kalidanger · 24/02/2013 10:13

This is all moot if I can't stay green for 7 bloody days in a row, of course. Small steps, sisters.

MrGeresHamster · 24/02/2013 10:22

Cous cous:

Mix together all these (or alternatives or selected)

  • prepare couscous as per instructions but with some stock/bouillon in the water
  • small cucumber cubes
  • small tomato cubes
  • small red onion cubes
  • finely chopped/crushed garlic
  • juice of lemon(s)
  • splattering of good olive oil
  • raisins

Leave to stoop for a few minutes before serving.

BsshBossh · 24/02/2013 10:26

Sylvia meatloaf - haven't had that for years. I used to make a lamb meatloaf with feta and mint which was delicious. May dig out the recipe (it might have been from an old Atkins Diet book!

Kali re couscous recipes - you should find some good ones on BBC Food site. 150lbs sounds like a good goal.

Right, off to the Tate Modern for a few hours then lunch out, but after yesterday's gluttonous fish and chips and stodgy pudding lunch I only ate fresh fruit for dinner and have skipped breakfast this morning so feel like I can load up again on calories (fast day tomorrow so no guilt) Grin.

kalidanger · 24/02/2013 10:31

Mmm cous cous. Thanks Thanks

The Tate is nice and big for some 3.0mph dog walking pace, Bssh. Have a lovely day!

SylviaDaisyPouncer · 24/02/2013 11:14

bssh have a great time. When you get a minute tell me about fasting, is that the 5:2 I have seen on here?

TeaMakesItAllPossible · 24/02/2013 11:29

Ooooooo. Isn't the Lichenstein exhibition on at the Tate Modern? I declare myself well jel Bssh - I'm desperate for a bit of Laaarden and some culture. I lived there during the week for my last job. I loved the excitement and variety of things to do. We're going into town on Wednesday to see Carmen but don't think I'll have time for anything else other than a waft around the Serpentine.

After a monumental blowout of booze and food yesterday Blush I am back on it - albeit slightly hungover. I ate a mars bar at midnight! I mean WTAF. I don't even like them! Not sure I'm going to manage the run I had planned - all the kids' sports have been cancelled due to the cold. Running hills in minus temperatures does not appeal at the moment!

DoubleMum · 24/02/2013 14:43

Well I'm back from my blowout Thai meal, and it was lovely (and free!). I stuck to sushi and plain protein really as a starter, tried a bit of everything for main and had fruit for pud so well over my cals I expect but not outrageous. Can't believe my kids have come back and asked for popcorn while they watch a film!

dinkydoos · 24/02/2013 15:18

Hello all!
And hello newbies, feel free to add me, I am dinkydoos1943 on there.
I am doing a sort of 5:2 though so my diary will read a bit odd!
Was bit hungover yesterday so was quite snacky, but at least it meant I avoided wine...
We have just signed up for a family gym membership this week after ages deliberating, so that should help.
tea love your synopsis of yesterday, Especially the mars bar feast at midnight!
Belly pork for tea, as requested by kids, not ideal!

DoubleMum · 24/02/2013 16:05

Dinky what does a family gym membership entail?

DoubleMum · 24/02/2013 16:05

PS. DH loves belly pork, he'd be jealous.

dinkydoos · 24/02/2013 16:22

double , basically full access for all family. But it's v kid friendly David Lloyd place. Has lots of supervised kids activities that you can leave kids in while you do your thing in gym, or do a class. Then we all go for a swim, where there is a big pool and smaller pool. They even do kids play supervised in there too at various points so you can get on with swimming in main pool. They also have heated outdoor pools which open in march, which looks great. Also lots of tennis badminton etc, but kids tennis lessons are extra...
It's really nice in there and actually relaxing.

It's a bit of major investment to be honest, and we really umm'd and ahh'd but decided to take the plunge and just do it..
Just worrying whether we use it enough to justify cost, but time will tell

TeaMakesItAllPossible · 24/02/2013 16:28

I'm on paella for tea. Yum.

I'm intermittent fasting or 5:2ing. 500 calories 2 days a week. Rest of the week eat normally. There are, allegedly, health benefits for the fasting. There are lots of resources on the 5:2 threads about the detail. It works for me and I enjoy it. I will use it to get to target and am likely to build it into my lifestyle for maintenance.

Right I'm going for a wee burn around the hills ....

DoubleMum · 24/02/2013 16:32

Sounds great Dinky. I don't think there's quite the same facilities for the kids at our local unfortunately. I'm getting to the stage where I might start exercising now though at least, going to get the Wii Fit out next week. (Someone had better remind me I said that!)

WiseKneeHair · 24/02/2013 16:38

The gym sounds great dinky and I'm well jealous of your free Thai banquet Double, I'm sure if you're good now you'll soon be back on track.
Went for a run this afternoon and it started snowing! Not fair! I purposefully waited a few weeks before starting C25K to avoid this very thing. I reckon I can't avoid rain but getting icicles on my nose wasn't part of the plan! Ah, we'll, it's done now and I don't have to exercise outside again until Tuesday or Wednesday.
I'm enjoying my extra calories, we'll see what the scales say on Tuesday.

Lizzylou · 24/02/2013 16:55

Had a very drunken night out on Saturday with loads of dancing. Missed kettlecise at 9.30 unsurprisingly. So have stoned at gym this afternoon. Swear I was sweating out pure alcohol! Eek. Pulling it back foodwise.
Hello to all newcomers! I am not a mad party animal with a drink problem. I don't mind now if I don't go out for the rest of the year!!!

dinkydoos · 24/02/2013 16:57

Stoned at the gym as well as being hungover lizzy.... You par ty girl you!Grin

Lizzylou · 24/02/2013 17:23

Atoned
NOT stoned!!!
Blush

Double your Thai meal sounds truly lush.

DoubleMum · 24/02/2013 17:35

LOL at Lizzy's new life as a drug-addled, drunken exercise class-avoider!
Chance would be a fine thing, eh!

Lizzylou · 24/02/2013 17:43

Grin Double.
I was the slimmest ever when I was a permanently drunk, chainsmoking student. So could be a new diet plan?

BsshBossh · 24/02/2013 17:56

Tea yes it was the Lichtenstein retrospective. It was terrific. Very busy but we are members so we'll go again at a quieter time.

Sylvia 5:2 is when you fast twice a week eating 500 cals either spread out throughout the day (for just weightloss) or as a single meal (24 hrs fast for - arguably - health benefits as well as weight loss). The rest of the week you eat normally (but not over eating). Check out the first post of the 13th thread for a better explanation.

I had lunch today at a Jewish restaurant and ate meatloaf, mash and greens (followed by mini cinnamon doughnuts). DH had salt beef sandwich then strudel. Very yummy and filling. Fish dinner tonight at home followed by wedding anniversary (our 6th) chocolates Smile.

Fasting tomorrow. I think I'll need the eating break Blush.

DoubleMum · 24/02/2013 18:01

Hope you had a lovely anniversary Bssh.
Am just stirring myself to make some tea for the DCs, I guess it's only when you get old that you can't face more food after such a feast!
