Can't link to this from old thread but thought I'd start a new one as the old one was getting full and kept crashing my kindle.

Is this the post you mean juney? The context for this is that the group I was posting in is a group that is heavily into "numbers" such as BMR, TDEE and "TDEE cut". If this doesn't appeal then please ignore Smile.

juney what's your BMR, your TDEE, how many calories are you currently eating a day and how many lbs do you want to lose a week. The Eat More To Lose Weight group that I belong to promotes slow but steady loss meaning most of us are aiming for a small calorie deficit each week so as not to get our bodies used to too low calories.

My personal opinion is that we should eat well above our BMR and a small percentage below our TDEE. So last year I lost weight on 10-15% below my TDEE and it suited me because a) I love to eat and can't bear of eating too few calories and b) my body has never had to get used to eating below 1800 cals a day so I think my metabolism has remained buoyant (remember, this is my personal view - I have no idea if this view has a scientific basis).

You can calculate your stats (if you wish) here: scoobysworkshop.com/calorie-calculator/

WiseKneeHair · 17/02/2013 08:29

juney I think it's pretty accepted that you shouldn't eat under your BMR for any period of time. The worry, as well as interfering with weight loss, is that you will be losing muscle rather than fat.
There is some interesting stuff on MFP about this.

juneybean · 17/02/2013 09:36

Yes that's the one Bssh (such a stalker I am!)

BMR: 1798
TDEE: 2158

I think I've got it into my head that I shouldn't be eating very much to lose weight but like WiseKneeHair says its not really sustainable.

TeaMakesItAllPossible · 17/02/2013 10:15

I find this whole process so endlessly fascinating.

Thanks for the link Bssh I have had a look at mine and my BMR is 1365. And currently my TDEE is 2116 - though that's because I'm being really active. Once I've found this elusive new job I shall be down to 1817 for TDEE as I think I'm resigning myself to a long commute!

This information is really helping me get my head around how much I should be eating on non-fast days.

BsshBossh · 17/02/2013 10:30

juney then I would eat at 10-20% below TDEE (Scooby will calculate that for you) daily (or average that over the week). If you're doing 5:2 fasting then eat at TDEE 5 days a week. If you have been eating low calorie for a while though, you may find you gain a little weight once you eat more so perhaps increase cals slowly over a month until you reach your desired TDEE cut (or simply increase your exercise).

DoubleMum · 17/02/2013 17:04

Can't say I'm looking forward to the scales on Tuesday after my food fest this weekend, and I've got guests Tuesday-Thursday so can't really fast then, so tomorrow and Friday it will have to be.

juneybean · 17/02/2013 17:31

Thanks Bssh I'll give it a go!

TeaMakesItAllPossible · 17/02/2013 19:06

I'm fasting tomorrow too Double - my sister is coming over in the evening so I will just look at her, and sniff her wine, whilst she drinks. mmmmm peppermint tea.

Hope you had a lovely weekend though.

DoubleMum · 17/02/2013 19:36

We did have a lovely weekend - and great weather, which meant walking around was rather more pleasant than the last time I went away.
Today we went to Betty's Tearoom and I resisted the lure of the cake trolley (the DCs had very pink macaroons) and had 2 pikelets.
I don't feel like I've lost weight this week though. We'll see.

WiseKneeHair · 17/02/2013 22:06

Well done on resisting cake Double
Tea I do evenings and weekends on call, so obviously can't drink then. I have been known to pour DH a glass of wine just so I can sniff it. Grin To do it whilst fasting would be double torture though.
I've had a good weekend, but still feel a bit bloated, so don't know how much I will have lost this week. I keep telling myself it's not all about the number, I feel so much better and DH was saying how slim I looked today. Smile

Tabbykat · 18/02/2013 08:53

Morning chiefs! Well done to all those who've made good progress. Have been rubbish last week what with funeral, emergency childcare etc, but new week, new start. It's half term and quite sunny (although cold) here, so am taking DDs for a big walk round the park.

Logged back in MFP for the first time in a few days and hoping to get myself re-motivated Smile

DoubleMum · 18/02/2013 10:16

Ooh, compliments from DH, that's nice!
Just done a big shop and avoided total sabotage by my children, just about.

DoubleMum · 18/02/2013 10:17

You can do it Tabby!

Lizzylou · 18/02/2013 10:24

Onwards and downwards tabby, hope your friend is OK.

I have had a weekend of lovely lunches out, was v nice.

Think am going to do bit of a fast today though, feeling bit stuffed.

That calculator is having my BMR as 1591 and TDEE as 2467. Blimey!

DoubleMum · 18/02/2013 10:39

Really Lizzy? I think I weigh much more than you and my TDEE is less than that I thought. I'd better recalculate.

DoubleMum · 18/02/2013 10:39

Mind you mine will have lots less exercise, maybe that's why the difference.

Lizzylou · 18/02/2013 11:31

I have another 20lbs to lose, I am 5ft 9" and built like a tank though Double!

Could be the exercise?

BsshBossh · 18/02/2013 13:05

Lizzy you do loads of exercise, so I can completely see why your TDEE is so high :)

BsshBossh · 18/02/2013 13:06

X-posts, sorry!

GeekLove · 18/02/2013 22:46

4lb up on last week! I did eat out and have some more booze than usual but I reckon Wednesday weigh in should bring good news. Most of that has to be fluid from being ill ans not exercising. Still I'm back on the shred now.
My BMR 1408
TDEE. 2118

Seems like a lot of calories!

Lizzylou · 19/02/2013 08:49

Easy on, easy off Geek.

I have a training day today, need more coffee to get through. Have brought my lunch in so all should be to plan.

Can really start to see a change in tone in my thighs and stomach, bit on the arms, bingo wings still flapping though!!!

Busy week as DH will be out a lot, so will need to rely on Jillian.

WiseKneeHair · 19/02/2013 12:51

Hi Geek, as lizzy said, if it went on quick, it'll home off just as quickly.
My first mini target was to lose 1 stone by end of Feb. tbh,I didn't think I would go it, but I'm 1.4 lbs away with 9 days left, so I'm pretty optimistic and very very happy
My second is to lose another 1/2 stone by 4th April. I think that'll be hard, but doable.
I started C25K yesterday and loved it! It was pitch black and cold and I thought I would hate it, but it gave me a real buzz. Can't wait to do day 2!

TeaMakesItAllPossible · 19/02/2013 13:29

Afternoon Chiefs.

Jeez. I had a wee hangover and druth this morning. My sister stopped on by on the way West and we had a few scoops - 3 gins on 400 calories. Shock Only about 50 over though so could have been worse!

I've spent all morning clearing out the garden and have just had the most delicious plate of eggs, cheese and chorizo. I have never been so pleased to see a plate of protein and fat.

Back to the garden. Oooof.

Good work losers on MFP. I am very, very impressed!

dinkydoos · 19/02/2013 14:05

4lb can disappear in a day geek! Onwards and downwards.
Eating day here, thank god!
Hockey You say??? Good lord, just noooooo way!

Still shredding tho, with dd (5) regularly mimicking Jillian with comments such as 'I don't want to see your arms like this' etc..... Grin

WiseKneeHair · 19/02/2013 15:43

Dinkydoos DS 4yo sometimes does it with me. He is so cute. His press ups are hilarious Grin I did it once and was doing high knees, with Jillian in one ear shouting "up, up, up" and DS in the other shouting "up, up, up"
Well done on managing 3 G&Ts Tea on under 600 calories. Very impressive.
