Sorry to be a bit late this morning - no doubt you're all chomping at the bit to declare all on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Yes, it is full fat I have checked. It just says 'natural yoghurt' on the label and I checked ingredients etc so no worries there. I am having 2 tablespoons.

See, I don't know if it's just my head saying 'everyone else is having a snack, why aren't you?'

Would cold sausages be alright? Between making breakfast for a fussy toddler and getting us all to nursery/work on time, there isn't a huge amount of time in the morning.

Anaisa · 16/01/2013 10:23

Morning everyone,
Feeling a bit depressed this morning so I though I'd have a moan if you'll have me?
Week two for me and 7lb down which I am very pleased about even though I haven't lost anything since Sat. I track my weight in kg and have gone from triple figures to double, which feels like a massive achievement :-). I love not feeling hungry!
Now comes the "but" part - my DS2 is 6 weeks old and over the last couple of days my milk supply has pretty much disappeared. Suddenly we had to go from one bottle in the evening to pretty much exclusively bottle feeding. I can only put it down to lc as nothing else changed. I was hoping to breastfeed until at least the end of March when I go back to work :-(.
The obvious solution would be to start lc again in a couple of months, but I am still in maternity clothes as nothing else fits, fed up of being severely obese and panicking about having nothing to wear. After DS1 I have tried every diet under the sun and nothing really worked. I cant afford a new wardrobe and really need to shift at least 1.5 stone before I go back to work (and another 3.5 after that). I wish I didn't have to go back to work so soon (or at all) :-(

NoveltySlippers · 16/01/2013 10:32

Morning all Brew

Last night I made the famous creamy braised cabbage! It was.... nice. But my cabbage 'segments' didn't seem to stay together. Anyone else find that? I went onto the More Than Toast blog where the recipe came from and that woman's pictures showed her cabbage looking much more orderly than mine!

slatternlymother · 16/01/2013 10:36

Awww anaisa

(((hugs)))

No advice re bottlefeeding I'm afraid; I bottlefed mine from about 3 weeks because I couldn't keep up with demand. It certainly never affected him badly, I think it was a positive move for us personally.

7lbs is an absolutely fantastic loss; you must be feeling great! I remember the need to get back into my work uniform post maternity leave, and it was a weight on my shoulders. Sometimes you need to think about what is going to be best for everyone.

Don't forget that your hormones are still a bit everywhere, and that 6 weeks is very very young!

NoveltySlippers · 16/01/2013 10:39

Sorry Anaisa I dont have any advice re breastfeeding, but am sure others will be along soon who do! Thanks for you.

NoveltySlippers · 16/01/2013 10:40

Oh good, look, there's slatternly for starters!

Xenia · 16/01/2013 10:40

Anaisa, not sure what your work is but could you not express breastmilk at work - I managed that and it worked quite well.

Also when women are almost starving their bodies still are supposed to produce milk as the body prioritises the child over the mother so I'm surprised milk is disappearing. Try feeding every 2 or 3 hours all night and during the day and no bottles and express after every feed and that should get the supply back up, unless you are trying to wind it down anyway as the nature of your work means you cannot disappear off with a breastpump to express.

Are you drinking enough - I drank loads when breastfeeding. I think the supply comes not through carbs (for 2 millions years mankind ate mostly fat and protein and veg and breastfed babies fine)but your general food and if you increase frequency of feeding the supply should keep increasing. Make sure you have a pint of water next to you for every feed too.

BigStickBIWI · 16/01/2013 10:42

Sorry to hear you're feeling down, anaisa. But 6 weeks post-partum is very soon to start trying to diet - whatever diet you are doing. Are you eating enough? You can still cut down your carbs, but you do need to be eating enough food.

slatternly why only two tablespoons of yoghurt? No wonder you're hungry! This WOE isn't about depriving yourself, honestly. But yes, cold sausages would be fine - as long as they are low carb ones, obviously! The Black Farmer makes lovely, low carb sausages

Anaisa have you tried fenugreek capsules? Available from health food stores, they do help with milk supply.

On the downside, both you and the baby smell like a 1970's curry house, but they do help

Doshusallie · 16/01/2013 10:45

2 tablespoons??? I eat AT LEAST 200g of full fat yoghurt for breakfast every day and am never hungry till about 1.

slatternlymother · 16/01/2013 10:54

Erm, well, I thought I'd be being greedy by having more Blush

Yes I like the Black Farmer BIWI, we are going to the local butchers this week for our meat, and he makes them lovely. Just meat and a bit of flavouring. I asked him if he used rusk and he said no, there was no need to because of the quality of the meat and the fat helps to bind, so that's alright isn't it?

ToomuchWaternotWine · 16/01/2013 10:56

When I'm having yoghurt for breakfast I have a huge bowlful! 2 tablespoons def won't keep you going!! I know it's hard to get your head around this esp if you have been used to restrictive calorie counted diets where amounts are minuscule and everything is weighed, but on this WOE, just eat the right foods till you have had enough!! Seriously it's ok, trust us!

BigStickBIWI · 16/01/2013 10:58
Grin

Repeat after me: this way of eating is not about deprivation

You need to make sure that you are eating enough, and eating often enough. This way you keep your blood sugar levels stable. Keeping your blood sugar levels stable also keeps your hormones balanced, which means your body won't be screaming at you that it's hungry.

BigStickBIWI · 16/01/2013 10:59

Those sausages, if they are just meat and fat, sound perfect.

OP posts:
NoveltySlippers · 16/01/2013 11:02

I find that yoghurt isn't really enough for me in the morning. It would be if I added muesli-type stuff or berries, but obviouly they're not allowed on bootcamp!

So I reserve my yoghurt consumption for my mid-afternoon snack. I then have two tablespoons of it, like slatternly, but that's cos I don't need more as just a snack. But that definitely wouldn't be enough to keep me going in the morning.

I generally need more texture in the morning; today I had mature cheese and ham with butter. 'Twas lovely!

anewdispensation · 16/01/2013 11:05

Hi Anaisa. I am currently ebfing 4 months old DS as well. I am also doing the low carb WOE. The first week, I experienced a decrease in milk supply as well but what I did was to drink loads of water and fluids and I increased my fat and protein intake. I also drank a glass of soya milk with every meal. The 2nd week saw my milk supply back at pre-LC level.

As Xenia rightly said, it is fluids and food in general which helps make milk not just carbs. Apparently, because you have introduced a new WOE, your body thinks it is going into starvation mode and tries to shut down any non essential activity like breast feeding, but as long as you continually eat and drink loads of fluids and keep breast feeding on demand, your supply will be back up.

NoveltySlippers · 16/01/2013 11:07

Slatternly I've found the M&S British Outdoor Bred Pork sausages with 97% pork (and gluten free) are great.

In fact they won some sort of award - and this is an interesting little piece about 'premium sausages':

www.lovefood.com/journal/opinions/15118/best-of-three-premium-sausages

I didn't really know about natural casing, and that when they ask you to pierce the sausages so they don't explode, it's becasue they have an artificial casing!

Xenia · 16/01/2013 11:08

I support what BigS says. I eat like this. I am amazed at how little food people eat. They have one egg say. I have 3 eggs and bacon for breakfast. I sometimes think I eat 4x what some people do.

Also breastfeeding and anyone feeling hungry up the fat - eat lots of fatty beef, have 6 pork slices with fat on - whatever they have called, not one, have the whole packet.

BigStickBIWI · 16/01/2013 11:10

Grin at being called BigS. I must change back to BIWI I think!

question sbout celeriac chips: are they meant to come out crisp? The ones I made on Sunday were soggy and even though they tasted nice, they were not crispy. Tips please

NoveltySlippers · 16/01/2013 11:20

Yes...and if anyone has any experience of the braised cabbage - how did you manage to keep your cabbage segments together (as opposed to a kind of collapsed mess - like mine were)?

BigStickBIWI · 16/01/2013 11:28

I don't think celeriac will crisp up anything like the way potatoes do. But happy to be proved wrong!

OP posts:
slatternlymother · 16/01/2013 11:29

Blush ooooh, well I thought if I ate half a big tub of yoghurt (200/250g) you'd all think I was a little piggy. Well, I am, but that's beside the point Grin

Thanks for the tip about the sausages novelty, I might get a packet of those and test. Gosh, I never knew that about the skins! Come to think of it, I didn't poke the skins of the last Waitrose ones I had and they came out just fine.

I need to lay my hands on a celeriac...

Anaisa · 16/01/2013 11:38

Thank you everyone!
Dispensation - that gives me hope! Thanks.

BIWI you are probably right, my day is constant feeds/walks/general chores and not being hungry I forget to eat. I will make an effort to eat more.

WillieWaggledagger · 16/01/2013 11:40

anewdispensation - i cook them for longer if they're still a bit soggy, and make sure they aren't crowded together in the pan. they can get quite brown before they're ready. they are chewier in texture generally than potato chips

noveltyslippers, sometimes mine come apart and sometimes they don't - i suppose being extra-careful that the root part is evenly shared between the segments would help? I don't worry too much about it if they do though - I expect the blogger selected a particularly good outcome for the photo and had several versions that came apart
